Who here has ever watched this movie called "Diamonds are not to be eaten"? I'm not sure if this is the actual original English title of the movie, because Brazilian broadcasters mess up with all the movies' titles, but it's a movie with Marylin Monroe and Jane Russel, both take a ship from America to France and they start throwing themselves at every rich men in the ship, until Marylin Monroe finds an old fat ugly but extremelly rich man who owns diamond mines. Then Marylin Monroe lures the old fat fuck into giving her a crown of diamonds, then she goes to Paris and wastes a real load of money with rubbish, then the cops arrest her under the accusation that she stole the crown of diamonds because the old fat fuck was really too pussy to explain his actual wife that the jewell was a gift to Marylin Monroe. I laughed a lot watching that movie, but I felt sad too because, after I watched that movie, I realised that I'm getting really old, because, I no longer have the same mindset I had years ago, and when we have our mindsets changed, it means that we got mature and, if we got mature, it means we are getting rather old. My point is, had I watched "Diamonds are not to be eaten" 10 years ago, I would had certainly destroyed the television with Muay Thai kicks on its screen. But, now, I watch a movie like that and I... laugh at the movie??? OMG OMFG I'm in decay. I'm no longer the man I used to be. I'm entering the awtumn of life indeed... |

Diamonds are not meant to be eaten? What a strange title. |

They never give movies' titles a literal translation. Sometimes they just give a completely different title. Some other times they give movies names to remind the audiences that some famous actor is in the movie. For example after Back to the Future (1985), two other movies starred by Michael J. Fox got the word "futuro" ("future") included in the Brazilian title of the dubbed version. "Teen Wolf" got the name "O Garoto do Futuro" ("the boy from the future" which has nothing to do with the theme of the movie) and there's another one too but I forgot. "Terminator" was called in Brazil "O Exterminador do Futuro" ("The Terminator From The Future") and after the success of this movie, another movie with Schwarzenegger, "Total Recall" got in Brazil the name "O Vingador do Futuro" ("The Avenger From The Future"). This is what they do over here. |

Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistlestop Cafe It had its title reduced to just "Fried Green Tomatoes" ("Tomates Verdes Fritos"). An excelent movie, btw. I watched that, my mother watched that, some of my cousins watched that, everyone gave this movie the best compliments. Mystic Pizza, I never heard about this movie, I'll have to google for this one. |
