Many of us have been receiving letters/e-mails from colleges and universities, so I might as well. Here, you can talk about what you want to do in college, where you want to go, and what you've gotten/heard.

Okay, I just feel like throwing the CIS for a loop (Or the NCAA if I don't go to Windsor.), so I'm gonna play lacrosse. Ever seen a black kid play lacrosse? Right. Besides, it looks fun as hell. (And almost every university has at least a club team...) Besides, it looks a lot like playing QB, minus the hits. You'd have to see the field well, make good passes, and get the ball where it needs to be and not worry about stats. (Assuming I play attacker or midfielder...) It just looks cool. Besides, those helmets? Boss.

I may still be in 5th grade but I kinda know what I'm gonna do anyhow.

1. Take as many scholarships as possible since my parents are gonna retire by then. (More like, they don't wanna pay my needs anymore because I'm big enough.)

2. I'm currently thinking of taking Creative Writing more than Graphic Designing; that is not yet final.

3. Either study in the Philippines, Singapore or U.S.

4. After I have a settled job, live with my American cousins.

Lol.

Nice looking, but not somewhere I'd go. Too much focus on the non-writing arts. Plus, no Creative Writng major.

I like the school has what I want. Btw, someone is going to hound not to major in anything writing related all because there is no jobs for it. They would want you to major in Computer Science.

Psh, tell that to Marshall and Marquette. I got a bunch of e-mails from schools with good writing programs. It helps that I got an epic English PLAN score.

Ahem, guess who sent me some mail? Take a RANDOM guess. I'll give you a hint: It's a college that Sparta one mentioned on the WBO in the college thread there.

Ahem... Brown. Well, it was quite the surprise to hear from a Ivy-League school. Most of the colleges were small ones, private institutions, or ones in Illinois. There were exceptions, but usually, nobody hugely famous. A pleasant surprise.

Brown is a great school. I visited there years ago, and it's really pretty. They've got some great courses, too, from what I hear. (Also, my dad is a grad. So, I might be biased. :P )

Ah, just the post I was searching for. This is my newest project: Is a liberal arts education worth it, because, to put it in Master Havik's words, "there are no jobs for it". I already went on a tirade about it on facebook, so I'll stick with that for my English research paper.

While this is a late one: Double major? It'll be a hassle the first year, but worth it. (Especially if you can manage to get into Swathmore. No GPA, no grades, just lots of class discussions and papers. It has an honor system.)

If you're going to study in America? Northern Michigan! (Where I'll go if I don't go to U of Windsor) Or Swathmore. Pass/Fail your freshman year, then you just get your education the last 3. No grades or GPA.

My college choices have...slightly changed. By that, I mean my list is in total disarray. Right now, I'm at a top 4. Northwestern Oklahoma, Southeastern Oklahoma State, Windsor (a long shot now, given the lack of int'l scholarships), and possibly Swarthmore College (only if I can get a full ride for debate. Seems they give those.). I'm leaning to Southeastern because I can actually afford to go with no loads and only a few scholarships. $8,000 a year cost of attendance (housing, classes, food, and the like. Bring on the ramen noodles!) and a nice debate team, looks like I'll be fine. Plus, I'll probably qualify for a Pell grant, which is $3,500 if I recall correctly. After a few scholarships (corporate or from the school. I'm looking for about $4000), I'll be going to an accredited university for 500 bucks a year. And that's the out of state cost. Now I just need a 27 or higher on the ACT, and I should get in.

Northwestern OK actually costs about 600 bucks more or so. Both VERY cheap (and pretty good) schools. Same strategy, except with a little relative-mooching to cover the last 600 if I can't get it in the form of another grant.

No clue how I'll pay for Windsor. Which is why it dropped on my list.

And I can't afford Swarthmore, which is why I'm looking for a full-ride debate scholarship.

Are you a sophomore or a junior, Temp? I feel like you've said before, but I don't remember.

And, on colleges, I really have no idea where I want to go; I just know that I don't particularly want to go anywhere too local. I'm thinking I'm going to aim for a double-major program at Brown and RISD, but I'm still working on how I'd do that. And for what. I might try to go Cal at Berkeley, or (just maybe) Ohio University, if they have a program I like. I honestly think I'll just apply to as many as I can, and keep my options open.

Junior. My school has us thinking about college by eight grade, though. In fact, we're required to apply to at least 5 colleges.

It sounds nice, but you end up with a load of "Barry College-types," HBCUs, and community colleges, which the school celebrates while I groan. I mean, it IS college, but not really a good one. Out of the 40+ acceptances, I've heard maybe 5 good ones. Plus, despite the 98% college acceptance rate, my school has had a whooping zero Ivy leaguers, no Cal acceptances on what I remember as more than 50 applications, and an overall bad record at top schools. Most of the school just goes to Southern or Northern Illinois. NIU's a decent sports school, but academically? Junior college at a university price. SIU's barely better. I think the two best acceptances we've had are one guy going to Indiana-Bloomington, and another to Pamona College in California. Both full-ride.

That said, things may be changing. One girl, also on the debate team (And is the captain's partner. Don't know why. Dude's a jerk.), has racked up quite a few acceptances. One to Urbana-Champaign, and another to the University of Chicago. I appreciate that, especially with the only attention we've ever gotten coming from Anthony Davis. Well, and now the debate team getting some recognition. I'm sort of peeved that we only put three teams in the city championships, and only one from the JV division. Frankly, our conference is pretty bad. Whoops, another rant.

Speaking of colleges, I'm a junior but have been planning since 8th grade haha.

I've gotten mail from Florida Southern, Stevens IT, Bard College @ Simon's Rock (they wanted me to graduate early lol. It's actually a rather selective university), UChicago (awesome) and Columbia University (also awesome).

I got mail from Harvard, Yale and Cornell asking me to attend their summer programs and Columbia to join the Columbia Blue program.

I'm personally looking at an ED to the Columbia College, which is my dream. I can only hope that I can get in early, since I've been keeping my grades super high to do well later and become a doctor.

Ga...that's really prestigious. Wow. Letters from Harvard, Cornell, Yale? Those are all Ivy-League. That's really good - good for you! Were they acceptance letters or just interest letters?

My brother got accepted into RPI (Rensaleer Polytechnic) and is really psyched about it. I'm a sophomore in high school, but honestly, I still have no idea where I'm going or what I'm going to do. As much as I want to, I can't write for my career. I need a stable job...but I just don't have many other interests.

I'd assume interest letters. Ivy Leaguers ask for a load of money to even apply. I don't think anyone'd pay the three hundred bucks junior year without a sure shot at being considered for early graduation. Also: Kudos. I've got a personal issue with Harvard. It's more of a tourist attraction and a park than a school now with all the hubbub surrounding the place. I'd never be able to concentrate.

If it was acceptance I'd be dancing and cheering at the same time. No, just interest. However, since colleges received my SAT scores I'm pretty sure I've gotten mail from every single university listed haha. I kept all the prestigious ones, so I know that I got mail from all of them (top 15-20 or so in the US News Rankings). I also got some liberal arts colleges like Swarthmore, Amherst and Williams, but I don't know how good those are. I'm just looking at the universities.

RPI is a very nice research institute, a few friends of mine did research there over the summer. Congratulations to your brother.

Since first semester just ended, all of the seniors stopped giving a damn. My Calculus class will be even more barren since they're all done with apps haha

I've been getting emails and letters out the wazoo, too. All sorts of proclamations of interest, mostly from small colleges that I've never heard of. But, I've heard from a couple pretty good ones, too. The best ones are interest from Brown, Washington University in St. Lewis, and Richmond.

I actually need to get my PSAT scores up (only 197). My lowest score was in math (which I love). Next year, I should probably bring a calculator ...

Also, I'm only a sophomore, but I've got a pretty good idea where I want to go to college. I'm really against going to local colleges just because they're local. I mean, sure, it's nice to be close to home, but I've also got to expand my horizons. Also, I'm very much liking Brown ... if I can get in. :P I visited once, and it was awesome. Have any of you guys found colleges you really like?

I am adamant on not staying in Chicago. My list includes no schools from Illinois. I'll probably head someplace quite a ways away from home just for the sake of bailing. I've heard from those three, and I must say that Washington-St. Louis is somewhat...eh. Nice school, but not a great liberal arts program, compared to the upper echelon of schools out there. Heck, they barely compare to the mid-level universities. Their bread and butter is the sciences.

Richmond is a good school. I'll never be able to afford it, but I'd love to go there. It doesn't have the storied history other schools have, but I'd go anyway. It's not really an Ivy or a pseudo-Ivy, but it's really close, from what I've read and seen. Most of the students (unlike at Northern Illinois) are very happy with the school.

Also: Hoard EVERY letter you get. They will come in handy one day. It's what I do. I have a huge bag filled with the crap I've gotten, and it's helped me make some decisions. Besides, you might meet an alumni every once in a while, and the docs/letters/viewbooks will become a lot more useful. Even before your senior year.

Hmm, I've recycled most of the letters I've gotten after reading them. Honestly, they've all said the same thing, in so many words: "Hey, Odin, you're smart and we contacted you early. You should come check us out and come to this school! Also, here's an online code for you: odin1234. Sincerely, the school" If I see letters I like, though, I keep them.

I take more stock in actually seeing the school, the courses, the student interactions. It's why I chose my current school over one for "the best." Sure, the other looked great on paper, but it felt like a prison and the people were abominable.

Also, as long as we're just talking about the general, have you guys decided what you want to do? Or are you still thinking?

Well, I know I'm gonna double-major. Probably in English and Astrophysics or Econ. Looks like at East Central or Southeaster OK State.

Also: University of Illinois in Chicago in a nutshell. Looked nice, but... by GOD. The people were...so snide. I mean, every time anyone mentioned Urbana-Champaign (Also known as just U of I), they became smug. Or any nearby college. I just wasn't the environment I'd like to be in.

I do not like snide people at all, which is why I'm hesitant about applying to schools whose alums have that kind of reputation. Not only would I find my classmates odious, but I'd also fear becoming like them, myself.

Also, I know that I want to double major. I'm thinking probably Computer Sciences and Mathematics or Physics (when I figure out if I like Physics or not) with a minor in Music. But, who knows, I may find something to completely sidetrack me that I adore.

You know, it's really sad that my college search has featured a lot of me adding the same tag to any school that's great. Especially for the ones I'd love to go to. "I'd never be able to afford it, but..." It's pretty sucky. I really wish I could go anywhere I please, but it seems that I am at a huge disadvantage. I don't like it when people blame this type of crap on their race, but it seems like people enjoy doing that. It'd really suck if my lack of resources sabotaged my plans for education. Honestly, it looks pretty damn likely if I can't get some scholarships. (For that, I am glad the ACT exists.)

My college search, as most of you know, has not been going very well. I got into this school in Chicago, and the interview for admissions was great! But I don't like Chicago, as all of you know. I've been deferred or rejected from an insane amount of schools. It's absurd. My college counselor has been sending applications late. I can't afford to do it myself; he's got fee waivers.

I'm still hoping to get into Amherst College or this one school in San Francisco (Minerva at KGI) that's accepting their first ever class. If I get into Minerva, I'm going. If I get into Amherst, I'm going. Otherwise? I'm not exactly sure. Maybe Swarthmore? But I'm starting to lose faith as the rejection letters pile up. I've been rejected more than accepted at this point, and I don't know what to do. My hair is actually falling out at this point. (Which makes from some strange hairlines, by the way.) I laugh about it more than I should but I'm starting to get scared.
