Candidates are boys, girls, men and women who have been searched to stand impression for a clutch and live at the weyr to prepare for the hatching and the possibility of impression. Typically, candidates are between the ages of sixteen and twenty-one, although it is allowable to stand as young as thirteen, or as old as twenty-five. Candidates are expected to perform duties within the weyr (often cleaning, and other menial tasks) as well as attending lessons, ran by the candidate master or other senior ranks within the weyr. A list of topics which they may cover can be found below.

Exercises
1. Candidate mentoring, light- pair candidates with weyrlings, candidate sees how to take care of a young dragonet.
2. Candidate mentoring, heavy- pair candidates with weyrlings for a week, candidate shadows weyrling.
3. Mock-hatching: practice what to do. AWLM gives situations to specific candidates and they respond, or some other method of doing mock hatching.
4. Sewing lessons for candidate robes.
5. Candidate robe worktime.
6. Dragon bathing: bathe adults!
7. Dragon oiling: oil adults!
8. Question period: AWLM's, Dragonriders and/or weyrlings. Bring non-AWLM's in, possibly. Have candidates ask whatever questions that come to mind for dragons and dragonets.
9: Meet the dragons: similar to above, but involving non-AWLM dragons, telling life stories.

2. Candidate scavenger hunt- hide things around weyr, candidates look and become more familiar with weyr. Two takes- 1, have them make seperate threads and find things, and psot occasionally when something is "found," or have them look in the main thread and post when something is "found." or other takes, up to you.
3. Hide and Seek- to familiarize self with weyr.
4. Cooperative blindfold: one candidate is blindfolded while the other leads them through a task with verbal commands. Possibly guide through maze.
5. Cooperative training theory: one candidate silently decides on a task (like 'pick up the ball'), and guides partner through that task saying only "Yes" and "No," a la training theory/shaping.
6. Quiz-game, either post lesson or based on something covered in an earlier lesson. REward IC.
7. Leadership games: one candidate is elected leader of a group and guides their group through some task, rewards for most efficient, switch off team leaders. Consider directing some to emulate certain leadership styles, like dominating and gentle.
8. Problemsolving activity: puzzles. have them fgure something out alone or in groups, provide clues. consider candidates vs weyrlingmasters, and ic and ooc rewards.

A suggestion for running lessons...

Lectures tend to peter out after a few posts, admin posts at that. Solution: finish talking early. and also possibly have something planned as a backup. LEctures aren't really great for interaction, because you're not supposed to talk during a lecture. Post the lecture in the first or second post, or at MOST third post, and then open the rest of the thread up for socialization.
Don't wait for everyone to arrive to post after your first post, especially if you've only had the candidates/weyrlings called in your first post. If you wait for everyone, you'll never get another response. Wait until you have a few replies, or wait two days, and then post again.

(A big thanks to Diogenesslantern of Deviantart for the topic list, and wording the suggestion)
