You unlock this class with the key of imagination... It was so boring that he found himself having to turn that key in his head to keep from falling asleep. Why couldn't history class be like his art-and-literature class. Last time, they had been talking Rashonmen, the classic tale of different perspectives to cover one incident. Well, this morning could have been one such a tale...in a way. You see, the students would say that Hakuro had burst into homeroom in the morning out of breath, muttered something, and then sat down in his seat to allow the lesson to continue. The teacher at the time would have said that Hakuro came in without putting his hat-and-coat attire away in his locker and that was frowned upon, especially since it disrupted class. Hakuro thought differently...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Oh, crap, I'm late!"
He ran into the gates from the taxi that he'd used to get here emergency-fast, because unfortunately he had slept in. What had happened? Well, his phone had been off the charger when it needed it, and so the alarm that it had didn't actually go off. Well, that wasn't very Hatto-san of him, now was it? Fortunately, when he DID plug in the phone, it worked again and he could call a quick cab to his location and get off to school. He had dressed in a hurry, hopped into the taxi, gone to the front gates, and RAN! He knew that things would already be getting started, so he elected to forget about his locker for now and just go RIGHT upstairs...to the fourth floor...which explained why he was looking tired as he opened the door, saying...
"It's okay, I'm here!"
"And so is the stuff I said to keep in your locker during class."
"I'll just stick it in my desk, if that's okay."
"Very well, now take your seat."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

And so on. By now, Hakuro was more rested and okay...though he was currently without his phone, the Hatto Ken Ko-to of the Hatto-san was in his desk, and he was also very bored. He had tried to concentrate in class lately, but somehow all the stuff that was going on under the radar - the Shadow world - just wasn't letting him concentrate. It was all too strange, and he liked strange and interesting things...

Michael strolled his way up to the fourth floor of the High School section scanning the door numbers for the room he recognized on the sheet of paper he was holding. Being a member of the University, he didn't go through these halls on a regular basis. However, this was a unique moment. A teacher had failed to grab their flash drive with the day's lecture notes on it, history if he recalled correctly. Personally, he wondered how someone could forget something like that but they were human and mistakes were bound to happen.

He was actually instructed by HIS history professor and since he had quite some time before his next class, he agreed without much debate. Since it was a common lecture, it was transferred to the college instructor's personal jump drive from the Teacher drive quickly, as Michael was given the instruction to be certain he came back with it. Besides, if he got the chance to sit in, he could learn something from the high school class, if nothing more than a different teaching style.

As he found the classroom he was looking for, he noticed a boy dash into the room. He certainly looked the right age and seemed to be in a panic. He was probably late, but this early in the morning people could be prone to getting prepared more slowly. Unfortunately, the teacher seemed slightly less understanding. He couldn't quite make out what was said through the door, but it sounded like the instructor wasn't pleased by any stretch of the boy's tardiness. Michael shrugged at his own thoughts, it didn't really matter that much, the commotion had stopped and what was in the past was in the past. It didn't really have any bearing left in the situation, so Michael knocked on the door.

"Hello," he called through the door "I'm here to give a file to the teacher in this room?"

OOC: Firstly, I would like to apologize for the delay which was both in seeing if anyone else wanted in and the circumstances of my life. And then, I had to figure out what it was that I was going to do next, of course. I hope this works for you.

So yes, boredom then. It was such that Hakuro had propper himself in such a manner that dozing off would rap his head against his own desk. The whole ordeal would certainly be quite the spectacle if he got that far. Anything to offset the doldrums of the teacher's voice turning his brains to gelatin. The thing of it was that he did not, as it happens, have to resort to that, because something happened. The Japanese boy's attention was on the newcomer, the unknown-comer who appeared to be a university student in that...he was older and HERE. Bit of a leap, but not a bad one, considering.

"Hello. I'm here to give a file to the teacher in this room?"

"Oh? Let me see please."

The teacher looked confused, which could only mean that either something had been utterly forgotten or this was a case of mistaken room identity. Hakuro banked on the latter and set into motion even as the words "No, you have the wrong room, actually." were spoken. Suddenly, the newcomer would find him stepping up to the door and talking rather quickly, like a well-known detective in literature played often by someone British.

"I believe I can render some assistance and point him in the right direction."

He said so, exiting the room and closing the door. There said, he turned to the university student and said...

"Oh, thank god, I was dying in there! Anyway, I think what she was going to say was that you want the room down the hall. Come along!"

Was he serious?

Michael was confused as he was sure he had looked at the right room. But upon re-inspecting the note and the sign on the door noticed his mistake. He quickly chided himself for making such a stupid error.

"Sorry, I guess I'm still kind of waking up."

It was then that he suddenly noticed the young man that he saw running into the class just a little bit earlier. It was hard to forget something that quickly.

"I believe I can render some assistance and point him in the right direction."

Michael looked at the young man for a few seconds. It was unexpected and took Michael off guard, especially since the boy seemed remarkably eager to leave.

"Sure." Michael said, "I didn't go here as a High Schooler and I don't really get any call to come to this building. I'll probably need it."

As they shut the door and began to walk in the right direction, the boy spoke again.

"Oh thank god, I was dying in there! Anyway, I think that what she was going to say is that you want the class down the hall. Come along!"

Michael nodded and followed the boy before piping up with his own comment. It wasn't his to say, but he had to bring it up.

"So, I'm just going to...uh...take a leap of faith here and say you don't particularly like that class?" He immediately got the impression that maybe he shouldn't have said that and began to back-pedal to try and salvage the moment, had something gone wrong. "N-not that there's anything wrong with disliking a class or anything. Just kind of curious."

Well, at least there was no resistance to the idea of his presence from the new guy. That would've shut him down entirely. Of course, he had to at least inform the guy that he wasn't just getting out to be useful. That much was fair and just and proper. And while it was Anri who was the just one, Hakuro was generally decent anyway, so we can't have TOO much of the sneaky-underhandedness...unless it was necessary.

"So, I'm just going to...uh...take a leap of faith here and say you don't particularly like that class? "N-not that there's anything wrong with disliking a class or anything. Just kind of curious."

If Hakuro was suppose to be offended by that somehow, he certainly...uhhh...wasn't, or didn't notice, or whatever. The point is that he felt this was normal conversation. Thus, as they were about halfway down the hall, he merely shrugged and said...

"History IS important, but it's also pretty tedious, especially if it's not the history of something rather extreme, such as war or innovation or something...you know...interesting. When I look into a topic, if it's pretty ordinary, my attention starts to slide off of it."

Unfortunately, that did mean that because of this, his grades were beginning to slip a little because the history of agriculture or food preservation or sailing just didn't really grab him. You would have to sit him down to Connections with James Burke to keep him rooted there.

"So, what's going on in University-land, and why'd they send you down with the drive? Don't you have a class?"

"Hm. Makes sense. I think I can see why you might not find the more mundane stuff as interesting. I mean, compared to seeing someone discover a vaccine for polio, the politics of the world would seem a little lacking." On the upside, Michael had apparently not stuck his nose where it didn't belong. That was good, if he had it would have been a really awkward walk to where he was supposed to go.

"So, what's going on in University-land, and why'd they send you down with the drive? Don't you have a class?"

It was a pretty good question, but it wasn't too hard to answer. "Well, I don't have my first class for another..." he quickly glanced down at his watch "...45 minutes or so. I tend to get here an hour and a half or so before my first class. A mixture of caution that any unfinished assignments can be completed in the extra time and paranoia that I'd be late otherwise. As for why I was chosen, well, I was wandering during that time and just happened to bump into my own history teacher. He asked, and I didn't really see a reason to say 'no.' I'm sure if I didn't accept he probably would have done it himself."

"That's about the size of it. I'm more into things that stick out a little more, investigating and such."

Because hey, the Hatto-san's life is a tale of largely-uneventful Okinawa resort life by which he could not get enough to do with himself, and he couldn't go anywhere in his young life. That was why he had to obsessively invent things to do, and do so with the trenchcoat and hat to make it funny. And this extended a great deal when he was old enough to be able to leave home and travel. Hakuro was a well-to-do fellow who had an eye for curiosities. Now then, the boy explained his being-early situation, which made sense to him, and then he said...

"...As for why I was chosen, well, I was wandering during that time and just happened to bump into my own history teacher. He asked, and I didn't really see a reason to say 'no.' I'm sure if I didn't accept he probably would have done it himself."

"But anything to get something done, right? Better than sitting around with nothing to do. Well, here's the spot, anyway."

Aye, the classroom they were going for lay just ahead.

"But anything to get something done, right? Better than sitting around with nothing to do." Michael nodded, that was a pretty accurate summation of the situation. There was something that the young man had mentioned that sounded strange, specifically that he cited 'investigating' as something that he enjoyed about history. It just...didn't quite seem to fit. He decided to brush it off, better not to pry yet since they'd only just met. It could be just a different view of history or something that Michael was missing. Anyways even if he'd wanted to, they were just about there. "Well, here's the spot anyway."

As the two walked up to the door, another thought struck Michael...that he'd yet to introduce himself to the stranger. "By the way, my name's Michael. And thanks for being a guide for me."

"By the way, my name's Michael. And thanks for being a guide for me."

"No problem."

He made sort of a grand gesture for some reason (like Drama Club) and introduced himself.

"Hakuro Kuroda, sometimes known as the Hatto-san."

The name was something that just sort of stuck. Don't worry about it. Hakuro went and opened the door to the last senior classroom on this floor. Inside, there was in fact a gentleman teaching who was, in fact, starting to wing it because he did not have the very drive that was in Michael's hands. He looked up as the door opened.

"Kuroda, what are y- Ah! My flashdrive, I presume!"

This last bit was aimed more at Michael now, motioning him to step inside and give him said desired object. Hakuro remained out in the hallway for now. Remember, he was procrastinating himself out of history, so he was in no hurry. Chances are, he would hang out there for at least a moment longer, hit the boy's room, linger about, and then saunter back into class. He was frowned upon in doing this, but he just couldn't keep his head in the game with this stuff. He needed to gain...some kind of focus. Something... Anything...

"Hakuro Kuroda, sometimes known as the Hatto-san." Well, someone had a flair for the dramatic. Michael could tell that his Hakuro had quite a bit of energy. It wasn't bad or anything, just something unique to him.

"Kuroda, what are y- Ah! My flashdrive, I presume!" Michael stepped in and handed the device to the instructor. Guiding him to the location of the file, the teacher had it ready to go and began to pull up the lecture. With a quick nod, Michael took the drive back and stepped out the door.

"I should probably get going back to my own building to return this, but something tells me you're ready to follow me. Right?" Something told him that Hakuro would be pushing his luck with this, but Michael also had this distinct impression that it probably didn't matter to him. That so long as Hakuro had any chance of stalling his return to the boring lecture, he'd take it. "All right, I guess that makes me the tour guide for now."

Things seemed to go well in there. The teacher didn't need to keep the flashdrive, so he just handed it right back to Michael and - presumably - he would have to return it to the university or somewhere else. He stepped back out into the hallway, then looked over Hakuro.

"I should probably get going back to my own building to return this, but something tells me you're ready to follow me. Right?"

"I've always wanted to have a look in there. At some point, I'll have to enroll."

If you had to ask Hakuro about luck, he could've shown you a watch on a chain which signified that he was The Fortune, a very lucky fellow for whom even prediction and destiny must take a back seat to. But then, that would reveal him to be a Persona user and you can't just go about that all willy-nilly, now can you?

"All right, I guess that makes me the tour guide for now."

He grinned at this.

"Don't worry. If anyone asks, I kidnapped you at finger-point."

He pointed his index fingers at Michael as though they were guns, indicating him to get moving.

"I've always wanted to have a look in there. At some point, I'll have to enroll." That was true. Hakuro would need to eventually enroll into the college, especially since Michael was sure that the class "The Hatto-San" was ditching at this moment was a Senior course. He watched Hakuro grin at his comment about being the guide. "Don't worry. If anyone asks, I kidnapped you at finger-point." Michael smiled and gave a small chuckle.

"Well, hopefully that excuse won't be needed and that nobody would be stupid enough to buy that. I'd like to believe there's some intellectual prowess in the faculty here."

As the two began moving from one building to another, Michael attempted to re-engage the conversation. "So, history's hit-and-miss with you. Is there anything in particular that always piques you interest?"

"We can only hope."

Yeesh, though, man. It was only a joke. If it's one thing that Hakuro didn't like, it was people who stepped on a perfectly good joke in favor of a little common sense. What's the point of life if you can't enjoy yourself in it? It wasn't good at all to live without a bit of humor involved. Now, as they were heading off, the Hatto-san - sans Hatto - would get a good look at the university a little, perhaps.

"So, history's hit-and-miss with you. Is there anything in particular that always piques you interest?"

"Oh, certainly. I prefer mythology over history, stories and literature, for sure. I'm not book-obsessed, but the more interesting tales are usually found IN a book. I like science as well. Always an interest and definitely practical.

Yes, he had a few subjects of interest. Mostly, though, what Hakuro liked was finding that which was hidden and unique in life and discovering it for himself. Anything to keep his mind active.

For some reason, Michael's comment seemed to set Hakuro off a little. Maybe he hadn't given enough clues that he was trying to continue the joke...maybe it would have been wiser to just let the statement stand alone and NOT try to expand on it.

"Sorry, I'm not very good at telling jokes. Let alone expanding them. I know about 1000 jokes, most of them terrible, and I just can't seem to tell them right."

After posing his next question, Hakuro gave an answer that Michael wasn't terribly surprised by...at least for part of it.

"Oh, certainly. I prefer mythology over history, stories and literature, for sure. I'm not book-obsessed, but the more interesting tales are usually found IN a book. I like science as well. Always an interest and definitely practical.

"You know, not many people consider science 'practical.' I personally find it interesting as well, but maybe I just like to understand how the world works. I guess the people who don't find it useful are the same people who think algebra is some kind of scam to keep people in school longer. Literature's pretty interesting too from my end, since it...I don't really know how to describe it, I guess I just like seeing other worlds. Even if they're mundane ones."

"I don't have as many jokes, but I have a few stories. I pursue them relentlessly, needing something to do."

They were walking along and such. Soon, they would be right out of the high school itself. And yet, somehow, Hakuro couldn't find himself worked up about the possible consequences. Not when you weighed them against the things that went on in the hospital. Oh, that was a big bad mess. Huge fiasco of epic and evil proportions. He tried not to think about it right now. He needed to take himself away from that during the day.

"I think you can guess I don't like mundane ones. As for science, what else can it be but practical when we always use it to understand ummm...everything?"

It's not as though science were as malleable as religion, after all. Yes, things get proven wrong and updated, but the idea is that we keep hammering down things until they stay put, and then we just know what it all means. That's one of the things that makes it cool, at least to Hakuro. He wasn't a science buff, but it WAS interesting.
