Location: Ruins of the Front Parking Lot Time: Middle of Afternoon (4:00 PM) Weather: ~81 Fahrenheit, Cloudy Asahina twisted the steel in her hand, causing it to turn slowly in place without much resistance. With a sputter and a gurgle, it was over, she had killed it... Having turned the engine of her car off she withdrew the key she held onto from the ignition. She pushed open the car door and stepped out of it, having arrived at the street in front of the Rockport City General Hospital. She absently shut the car door behind her, gazing into the distance at the rubble and destruction. It was quite a troubling view, the devastation was immense, the entire building was a hazard now. She clicked the button on her keys and the doors of the car locked behind her as she walked over to the parking lot to get a closer look at the building. She had authorization due to her job description, but she was still uncomfortable being here. Something about this whole mess felt wrong. To top it off, the reports said something about many victims being unaccounted for, gods above help her is Asahina stumbled upon one of them, dead or alive she'd surely die from the shock. She looked around, the building was in horrible condition, in fact it was a wonder that there were even walls still standing at all. She grimaced at the thought of such a thing happening to her designs, surely she'd be the one everyone blamed if something like that happened to a building she had constructed. She started having doubts about her decision to become an architectural engineer. Nervously she took a few more steps forward, stopping and kneeling down to examine the loose debris and rubble scattered throughout the parking lot. It was a mess, but most likely it was left this way because of police investigations and attempted rescues. She hoped as much anyway, certainly Rockport wasn't negligent, right? She continued to poke around the parking lot, her mind subconsciously convincing her not to get any closer to the actual building, clearly she could do her job from here. The sarcasm in her head was lost on the emptiness around her, another poor example of her ability to think like a normal person. She groaned to herself, this was much more than she had bargained for as a first job. Quickly glancing around her she sat down and placed her hand under her chin, observing the building from afar. A hospital. This sort of building is certainly one of the most carefully constructed in all of human history, keeping the injured and sick safe was top priority and so the safety standards and protocols used to construct such a building and ensure proper care were top notch. So why? Why did this happen? Maybe the rumors of a terrorist were true, she had heard that popular opinion, but she didn't believe it. Then again she rarely believed anything people told her unless it came straight from the source. Sighing once again she sat there perplexed. |

A dense canopy of clouds blotted out the sun's rays and even blotted the blue from the sky, causing the few small patches through the white and grey that appeared to be almost pale and colourless. Yet despite this sort of melancholic weather, the outside air didn't seem to hold in the typical dense moisture that signalled an oncoming rain. However, it was a lack of this that caused the weather's nicety to pale slightly. At least to Rei anyway, who preferred the cool and fast rain to the strange and almost springlike temperatures and overcast weather, though given the fact that the aforementioned springlike weather would soon fade away into a beautifully cold and festive Winter, it didn't really seem to matter that much to him at all. Regardless, the weather had caused him to leave his home for some kind of walk, which likely explained why amid the typical dark suits or dirty attire (depending on the section of downtown one walked through), a head of blue hair could be spotted among all of the normality. Though, this fact soon faded as his walk continued on and the crowds slowly became more and more scarce. If anything, it soon became apparent that he had no destination in mind, yet despite that particular fact the young scion had found himself almost absent-mindedly drawn toward a site of some long forgotten failure, not in a melancholic sense as what would have been perfectly applicable even a few days prior to the present, but in the usual "Break the mundane" sense of investigation he'd become almost synonymous with. Of course, this also begged the question of whether or not it was even possible to approach the hospital, considering all of the news reports about terrorism or something similar destroying the place. And so, within a good chunk of time (one mostly filled with musings about the Otherworld and some idiotic school assignments that had to be turned in the following Monday), the bluenette found himself standing before the site, completely oblivious to the other standing there for a moment. His pale and slender frame seemed to go almost catatonic in that instant, as the red-brown eyes tried to breath in and analyse the damage that had been done. Each scorched wall, each piece of disgusting rubble seemed to burn itself into his memory. It was only natural for Rei to hate hospitals, considering how often he'd been poked and prodded by doctors and nurses of all kinds, and yet this level of destruction was not only other-worldly (pun intended), but also somewhat... devastating. The stoic mask crumbled for a moment to give way to a slight hint of melancholic empathy before being swallowed up after a minute or so. And so, he turned to leave. Or at least, he would've left had his eye not caught another person standing and soon decided to approach them for some interaction instead. All in all, the most that could be said about the woman in question (or at least her general appearance, something Rei often didn't care about when taking interest in others), was that she seemed to possess some sort of melancholic atmosphere about her, much like that small Ai girl from the mall several weeks prior. Although at the same time, it could be said that the woman herself didn't appear to be melancholic (far from it, it looked as though she was rather pensive at that moment in time), but rather that her appearance made her appear to be that way. The bluenette adjusted his glasses and straightened the grey dress shirt he happened to be wearing before speaking. Never once did it cross his mind that the woman's pensiveness had a real reason behind it, though that was likely a blindness caused by his own blind interest in others, "Afternoon. I take it... you knew a patient staying here when this..." He paused for a moment to gesture at the rubble, not that any such gesture would've been required, "Happened?" It was a rather bland and ignorant assumption, though it seemed to be the only real thought that crossed his mind when looking at the girl and the melancholic mist which she seemed to exude. Tact had been thrown to the side for once, likely as the result of some great and unforeseen lack of interest that hung over Rei at that moment in time. Upon realizing the error in his previous statement however, the bluenette immediately corrected himself with a follow-up, "I'm terribly sorry if that is the case, and if it isn't then I'm sorry for making such a bold assumption. My name is Rei, and it's a pleasure to meet you." Obviously the correction was nothing more than the typical courtesy, though the introduction and pleased to meet you were not in any form. After all, so little had happened recently with school and home life that even meeting someone new was something different to break the monotony. Meanwhile in the back of the bluenette's head, a small and silenced part of him was likely saying how depraved and apathetic he was becoming in regards to thrill or interaction. Yet that was not the case at all, it merely felt that way. |

Asahina's self musing was interrupted in her oblivious and melancholic stupidity she had let someone sneak up on her. She flinched in shock for a split second at the voice, even though the voice that she heard was only a soft yet sharp reality check. She breathed a heavy sigh as the male posed the question to her, asking if there was a patient she knew. No, there was no one for her to even consider visiting in the hospital. She hoisted herself up as he finished his question and offered up an introduction all at the same time. The man, Rei, she was uncertain where he'd come from but he was here now. She looked him over as she took in the statement, considering what to respond with. He was intelligent looking, young, clearly younger than she. Possibly a student? He was rather well dressed for his age, but the question that immediately sprang to mind involved that blue hair. Disregarding that for the time being she nervously kept him to her side, not facing him, nor making direct eye contact. She wasn't good with people, at all. "No. I'm new in town. I work for OCHRE, or ... well... I'm an intern at OCHRE. They're part of the recovery effort for this particular building." She nervously bit her lip as she looked away from Rei to the building. "I'm Asahina. It's... a pleasure." She tried turning more towards him now and looked at his... forehead. Still uncomfortable making eye contact. She also couldn't help but look at that hair, a strange color. Dyed? No it looked too natural. She didn't care really though. She let it out of her mind, or tried to. "I came here to review the project... but I don't really feel comfortable here for some reason." She looked at her shoes, she had subconsciously pigeon toed herself. The boy seemed pretty intelligent, maybe she could ask him about the situation. She bit her tongue however, afraid to ask him anything. She didn't like talking to others much, especially in private, though it was even worse in public. So really she just hated talking to others. She was terrible at it, and it usually left a bitter taste in her mouth. Though that could also be the blood from biting her lip too much. She didn't really do that much anymore, thankfully, she'd managed to break at least that habit. She looked back up to him, still unsure if she should ask him anything. He'd probably just say whatever the news was saying, but it just didn't sit right with her, the damage done to the building seemed so inconsistent, almost like a war had happened right here. The clouds drifted lazily as Asahina awkwardly stood in silence. She wanted to know more and finally after what felt like an eternity, but only realistically ten or so seconds, she muttered almost under her breath, "Do you know anything about this hospital or what happened to it?" Now nervous she'd made an ass of herself or maybe even offended her unwanted conversational partner she quickly spun and faced the hospital. Damning herself quietly in her head for being such an idiot and letting her curiosity get the better of her. Now she was stuck in this conversation for sure. In the moments that passed between Rei's initial questioning of the girl before him and her response, the bluenette calmly cursed his own ignorance, again the result of general detachment at that particular moment in time, if only because it could've driven away someone at least remotely interesting. That was to say, the more melancholic a person appeared to be on the surface or when speaking, the less information they tended to give, effectively making dealing with them all the more fun, or at least fun for one who appeared to be almost obsessed with finding non-boring people. Not to mention, beyond being a distraction for monotony, it was also a distraction from one's own infinitely repeating thoughts, which Rei had been alone with for what felt like an eternity, even when dealing with others. He gave a light shaking of his head then, as if to chase away anything that would come to him that wasn't related to the situation at hand, and then immediately adjusted his coat, glancing up at the dark clouds and then back to Asahina once she spoke. And indeed, what she had said served as a reason that made him dread the possible routes this particular conversation could take. It was certainly one thing to tell the truth to an officer like Shiro, but to someone who didn't understand the situation, it appeared as though neither the truth nor a lie would have a potent effect, a true catch-22 situation if there ever was one. Despite this inner annoyance and a gathering of thoughts, Rei still gave a faint nod of acknowledgement when the woman introduced herself and finished speaking. He then opened his mouth to speak, simultaneously taking note of the melancholy woman's lack of eye contact and the biting of her lip. Obviously such traits were reminiscent of others he'd dealt with, those who didn't feel comfortable in any sort of conversation, though to Rei such a realization was, at this particular moment, a highly positive one. Perhaps she wouldn't be able to bring herself to speak about the hospital after all? Either way, he soon closed his mouth, waiting to see what else there was to be said despite the silence. And sadly, that silence was not broken by something he would've deemed interesting or at the very least useful, instead shattering due to the very question he did not want to hear. Such a thing managed to illicit a frown initially, though it was soon forced to recede back into stoicism despite the fact Asahina turned away almost immediately. He sighed then, adjusted his glasses, and began to speak, trying to improvise an answer. "I don't know, though I can assure you it's not what the news reports say. Terrorists and bio-weapons don't cause this level of malevolent damage, not to mention there are greater targets within the city of one truly wishes to be that wicked... There is a rumour, about some monstrous thing being there one second and gone the next, destroying the hospital and leaving in mere seconds, but that seems unrealistic, even if it has come from numerous sources..." It was perhaps the only way he could reference the true happenings here without resorting to discussing Shadows and Personae, especially considering for the first few days after the incident, the only thing Rei found himself hearing around the city were rumours about the incident, most of them idiotic but others... much, much closer to the truth. "Either way, I was wondering if I could make a donation to your organization right now, through you." It was nonsensical to avoid the proper channels in doing such a thing, but it didn't matter, anything that would change the subject however, did. |

Asahina listened as the boy with the blue hair explained his knowledge on the situation. It was just like she expected, people don't believe what they were being told. No one seems to really know what did this, resorting to some Godzilla story. Of course their were bound to be rumors about such nonsense, she guessed there was probably at least one theory that aliens did it. She scoffed under her breath, what a ludicrous notion. Were people really that stupid? She was reminded why she hated to be around others. She spoke up briefly, "Thanks, I appreciate the information. It confirms my theory that there was more at play than just some explosion of some sort." She looked around the building, it certainly didn't look like the site of an explosion, the damage was too chaotic, no sign of a central point of the disaster. She looked over her shoulder again when he mentioned making a donation. That... that was not what she was expecting to hear. This kid wanted to make a charity donation? She realized he probably just wanted to hand her a twenty or something, left over money from visiting the mall or something obnoxious like that. Whatever the case, she couldn't technically take the money herself if it was intended for the organization. "I don't really have the authority to do that... but if you don't mind me asking, why not just use the charity donation for the relief fund?" Seemed like a logical question. Maybe he had come on behalf of his family, that would make sense. She looked back to the building once again, anxiously tapping her finger to her chin. Things here were not as they seemed and she was bothered. If they were really going to have this conversation, it was best to step away from the building. Didn't want something to happen and end up getting the civilian hurt. It would be one thing if she got hurt, she was technically on duty right now doing research about the building, but if he got hurt she might get blamed and lose that job. She stood and turned, walking back towards the sidewalk, motioning for the blue haired boy to follow her. She wondered again about the blue hair, it looked natural. Did he have some sort of strange keratin deficiency that caused his hair to come off as a strange shade? Eh, she didn't know and honestly shouldn't care. What was with her lately? She spent so much time around others these past few days that she'd possibly be considered social at this point. She begrudged the thought and choked it out her mind. Whatever the case, she would just help direct this kid to the proper location to make a donation and be done with him, then she could get back to work. "Are you familiar with the relief fund? I want to say they're taking donations for it at the City Hall. I don't really know though for sure, I'm new here and all that..." She gave an annoyed sigh at the thought she was just causing more confusion probably, way to fuck things up even more Hina. She wanted to rub her forehead, but the sigh alone probably was enough indication of her dissatisfaction with the way she was behaving. She sat on the hood of her car once she got close enough. She, for once, looked the boy in the eyes. A mistake, he was calculating, somewhat cold. She got nervous again, maybe there was more to this kid that she thought. "You said your name was Rei, right? If you want I can take your information and give it to the guys at my work, maybe they can contact you or your family about the donation." |
