Evenings were the time of activity for the redheaded Russian. After classes for her, and after work for many others. The cool times of the sun just beginning to set was the student's favorite to be out and about. And today was even a bit special. One of the first friends she'd made since arriving at Rockport had agreed to meet her around here. She had brought her flash drives with her just in case to show more of her pictures. The lake was rather pleasant today. It had rained quite a bit earlier in the morning, but things were drying out now and breaks in the clouds could be seen. The sky was slowly turning red and it was just warm enough to dress lightly, which Veronica had gladly jumped at the chance to dress casually for a change instead of the uncomfortable uniforms. A light pink t-shirt and a long skirt wasn't anything fancy, but then again, Veronica was not a fancy girl. The sounds of cicadas were audible as it seemed the world was calming down from the day. Even though she was supposed to be waiting for Asahina, she couldn't stop herself from taking a few pictures of the lake in it's tranquility. Even the few people walking around didn't detract from the peacefulness of the area. The sort of natural beauty of this town was a never ending fascination for the Russian immigrant. |

Hina pulled into the driveway and made her way around to a parking spot in the lot. Once she got out of the car, she pulled out a small totebag from the car, inside was her laptop and dozens of extra printed designs she had put together. She wasn't sure why exactly but she was nervous, well, she was always nervous around people, but she was more nervous than usual today. Giving a hefty sigh she slammed closed the door and clicked the lock button. Making her way to the sidewalk she peered around, she wasn't exactly sure where to meet the girl if she was even here yet. But she figured the easiest way to spot the girl would be to spot a lovely view of the lake. She made her way across the cross, her usual black and white dress flowing gently in the breeze of the area. It was a nice evening, not too hot, not too cold, she appreciated the weather's fair fortune. The glistening grass still moist from the rain made the remains of the light glimmer and flash in her eyes occasionally but it was pretty, she didn't mind. As she approached the lake itself, she saw the girl, snapping pictures, just like she thought. She walked over to a nearby table and bench, setting her bag down on it she shouted over to Veronica, "Oi! There you are! Veronica!" She waved her hand above her head, the scene looked like something straight out of a movie, friends meeting at a lake, calling for one another in the setting sun... wait that seemed more like a romance setting. She sighed again, her mind didn't grant her much fun to be had. She stopped waving once she had caught the girl's attention and beckoned her over. |

Veronica perked up upon hearing Asahina call out to her. Smiling widely, she runs over to her, apparently very excited about something. It indeed looked like something out of a movie, with her excitedly running over to her newest companion... minus the bounce Veronica caused in her excitement. Either way she slows down when she nears the girl. "Hina! Very happy you came to see Vi again! How is you today?" It seemed that enthusiasm eroded her grammar a bit more than usual, but it was easy to understand her so far. "I bring computer sticks today. Also pictures for you. Saw old Cathedral. Beautiful building, got many images. Amazing architecture." As she recites her latest adventure before coming to see the intern, she moves over to sit on the bench, leaving plenty of room for Asahina to sit if she so desired. If nothing else, with how quickly she spoke, Hina did not have to worry too much about making awkward small talk. Small blessings "Beautiful here too though. Am happy you could make it, pretty bird. Good out here, and here is very interesting to me." Veronica sets her purse onto her lap, pulling out the flash drives and setting them on her lap as she brings up taken pictures on her camera screen, ready to share, but not pushing them into Asahina's face in case she wanted to share her work first. |

Asahina smirked in humor as the girl made her way over to the table, finding a seat so eagerly. It felt strange to be around someone so full of energy all the time. She couldn't help but feel sluggish in comparison. She nodded to Veronica, acknowledging the things she was saying. It was a lot to catch so quickly. She apparently had gone out and visited some places and taken more pictures, a cathedral of some sort. She cocked her head slightly in curiosity. She sat down next to the girl before getting the camera put in front of her face to admire the pictures she'd just taken. It was indeed a beautiful picture of the landscape just over the grass there. It looked stunning both in person and in the photo. She grew confused, Vi had called her some nickname. "Did you just call me pretty bird?" she chuckled slightly at the thought. What a strange thing to call her, she mused to herself. She unzipped the tote bag she had brought with her and pulled out the laptop, flipping it open and powering it on. She continued to observe the various photos on the camera's screen as it booted up. This girl was one hell of a snapshot. The various pictures, though all of the same subject, seemed to all look vastly different. It was impressive to say the least. She pulled a few of the print works out of her bag, laying them on the table in front of them, building designs for homes, mostly. Variety of sizes and shapes, heavily influenced by Victorian era. She blushed a bit at showing off her work to someone outside of the business, it wasn't part of her average day. She smiled, letting out an internal sigh of relief. |

"Yes. You are pretty, young bird. Is ok? Can call you something else if not like..." Veronica suddenly realized she may have been to familiar with the girl and looked a bit ashamed all of the sudden. She knew her enthusiasm sometimes made her forget social norms. The chuckle that comes from Asahina seems to relax her a bit, feeling she hadn't offended her at the very least. The old Cathedral was what was primarily on her camera at the moment. Beautiful and massive architecture right in the city. "Is lovely building no? I should take you." To be honest, there were so many interesting and beautiful things in the city, and she thought nothing more than to share it with someone. Asahina may have just been the closest person to begin sharing when they met, but the young woman's earnest attitude showed she appreciated the girl spending time with her. Looking over the prints, she decides to scoot closer to Asahina to see. "Ah... never went to Europe. See old architecture they have from back then... Looks beautiful. Would be like dream to live in home that looks like that." Though she was still very interested in what was going on, she had calmed down enough to fix her speech just a bit, and not overwhelm the poor woman with her rapid fire sentences. |

The girl seemed a little embarrassed at the mention of the nickname. Though Asahina didn't mind it, she was unsure she could come up with anything for Veronica without sounding like a clod. She tried to just ignore it, maybe in time it would occur to her but right now, she had nothing in mind. The building Veronica shared with her, the cathedral, was indeed quite beautiful. It was always the religious buildings that seemed like the most beautifully designed. She presumed it had something to do with holy fervor on the designer's part, the love of their god (or gods?) shining through in their work. Hina wondered if she could ever come to find such a driving inspiration. That thought was interrupted though by the question from Veronica. She mentioned taking Hina there, to which Hina immediately nodded in return. "I'd love to go there sometime." She wasn't a religious person but it certainly seemed like a good idea to visit this cathedral, she wanted to see the surrounding area, compare it to the building and see how it clashed or meshed. She snapped out of the thought as she noticed Veronica scoot closer to her. Hina uncomfortably bit her lip as the girl looked over the prints, was it normal for friends to get so close to each other? She wasn't sure, she never really spent time with anyone like this. She tried to ignore it, it was probably normal, right? Vi mentioned her interest in Victorian homes and Hina clambered, pulling out another print featuring a sketch of a large home done in Victorian. "When I was in school, I used Victorian for all my designs because it was my favorite." her cheeks shined a dull pink as they heated from blush and she pulled out an image of a home she had done more recently. Something of a mix of modern and Victorian era designs, giving it a sleek yet elegant look. "This was something I did as a concept for my final project in College. I ended up not using it because I was afraid no one would like it." Hina was shocked to find herself relinquishing this information rather freely, it came naturally to her as she spoke. This must be what it's like to have a passionate conversation about something? She pondered on that a moment, gazing over the various images on the table, the camera still displaying shots from the cathedral. Something to be passionate about gave her courage to speak up like a normal person. The revelation was cut short by a small beep on her laptop screen as the desktop finished loading. "Oh! When you're ready go ahead and plug in the memory stick." She anticipated seeing what the girl had done before meeting Hina. |

The girl's interest and subsequent agreement to go there sometime brought a smile to Veronica's face. She couldn't help herself. Inwardly, she never really thought she'd get along with the shy types. But perhaps she was doing well enough to make them glad to have her presence? She did so enjoy making others happy, after all. Any kind of smile was like a compliment to her. "Do not fear, pretty bird. Beautiful girl make beautiful design. Should show to many!" The compliment Veronica gave in return was a bit laying it on thick, but she was so full of energy this evening she hadn't noticed. "Very good at art. Talent not many have.... sadly not talent I have. But love to see." She seems particularly interested in the home Asahina designed. She grabs one of her older looking flash drives and tries to plug it in.... upside down. She looks confused for a second and it takes her a few moments to realize she's doing it wrong. If there were any doubts that technical expertise was not this woman's forte'... they were dispelled right about now. Eventually she hooks it up and looks at the screen in interest. On the flash drive were actually older pictures, clearly taken with a different camera. Outside of a couple that were taken of the countryside and one of an airport, most of them were during the winter.. of her homeland. There were a couple pictures of bear cubs being led around by their mother. A few of the wide stretches of snow, and even one of her old house... which ramshackle would be a generous description. It brought up the question of how exactly they managed to afford to move to this island. Veronica seems a bit embarassed. "Ah... old pictures. Few I have of old home. Do not miss it, but miss friends. Am sure they are well." Indeed one of the old pictures is her only a couple years younger, perhaps sixteen or seventeen. She was standing next to a female friend indoors in what looks like another school. Both girls were smiling brightly and hugging each other closely, clearly having fun with whatever was going on before the picture. The background showed a few other presumably students chatting. Perhaps it was towards the end of the school year? |

Asahina nervous as ever was relieved by the kind words, she let her shoulders slump a little in relaxation. She felt a small swell of pride in that the girl found her designs to be worthy of praise. Without much other thought, she quickly rebuked Veronica's statement, "Your talent is this beautiful photography." She made motion to the camera as if to emphasize what she was talking about, more so out of natural motion rather than believing Veronica didn't know what she was talking about. After a moment, the girl had managed to fumble the memory stick into the laptop and they were quickly away on a journey down memory lane once again. Veronica's photos from home were gorgeous, the snow and scenery was something of a marvel, such vast landscape was rare in the American states. She found herself getting lost in the various images, until Veronica spoke up once again, pointing out she missed her friends. It was then that it occurred to Hina, when this construction project was over, it was possible that Hina would have to leave the city and go find work elsewhere. She would have to leave behind her new friend. It was something she'd never really had to consider before, the idea of leaving people behind. She mentally frowned on the idea, it seemed unpleasant. She looked over the few images of Veronica's home, immediately something fun came to mind and she pulled a notebook out of the tote. Flipping it open she took a pencil from her purse and quickly began to sketch the scene she saw on the images. She continued to sketch somewhat slowly at first as she watched the rest of the images click by on the screen. The images of the school and the people Veronica had known before, she seemed like an everyday normal teenager. It was strange to think this was the kind of person Hina was spending her time with, but she was pleased. Moments later she gave the sketch more attention, giving it a flesh out design. She showed it to Veronica, a rough sketch of her old home, done in a more modern style and in a location more suitable for sustained living. The small detail she had given the background was sort of reminiscent of the lake they were sitting next to mixed with the details from the photo of Vi's old home. She smiled, "I thought your house could use a little fixing up, what do you think?" |

"Sweet to say so. Don't really think about it. Just take pictures of what I want to see. To remember. Memories precious, yes?" One thing Veronica believed, if not exactly consciously, was that her own memory was poor, prone to forgetting important things. While she was somewhat forgetful, not to the degree she thought... but that fear drove her in capturing these images and the memories and feelings within them. As she went through the images, they were all mostly the same kind of thing of her hometown. She had barely noticed the girl sketching until she was done and took the flash drive. She looked down at the image she had sketched and let out a delighted giggle. "This so sweet! I do not wish to return to old home, but if it looked like this, maybe change mind!" *Without even thinking she reaches over and gives her a warm hug in thanks for the picture. She freezes a couple seconds later and lets go quickly, realizing her faux pas. "Ah... sorry, did not mean to touch. Was thankful for picture. Looks so very nice. Maybe when rich one day, I have you design house I want to build?" |

Hina blushed heavily when Veronica hugged her, mind blazing in awkward discomfort. She wasn't sure what was going on, was this how people show gratitude? She was almost certain this was something they do in movies, but she didn't know it really happened in the real world too. She Waited out the hug, unsure if she should hug back or not but was surprised when Veronica reeled back from the hug with a confused look, apologizing. "Ahhh, d-don't worry about it." she quickly stammered out, unsure what to say. She pushed the sketch to her, "You can keep it, maybe your family would like to see it." She wasn't sure, but she offered anyway. It was unlikely that she was going to use the image for work, so there was no harm in giving it to her. Asahina nodded though, "I wouldn't mind helping you if that was the case." She had her doubts about the situation ever occurring, but that was a different matter entirely. She clicked through the process of shutting down her laptop for now, letting it whir down and power off. Once she finished, she packed it back in her tote and started to clean up the various prints as well. After she'd packed everything back up, she nervously stood up and looked back to the girl. "Do you want to walk with me around the lake?" She figured by the time they had circled the lake it would be late, and they could head home. First however, she wanted to put her things back in her car, so she didn't have to take them around the lake. She motioned for the girl to follow her, "I'm going to put this away, then we can walk if you want." She waited before she began walking to the car, to make sure the girl was coming with her or not. Asahina's mind drifted a little bit, was Veronica truly what people would consider a friend? Hina had never thought about that before, making a friend. She never really cared for other people's attention and in fact disapproved of it. However, since moving to Rockport things had been different, she spent so much time outside lately and she kept running into people who she spent more than a fair number of hours talking to. She presumed that this much social interaction in the week she'd arrive in Rockport outweighed her entire college social life at this point. Her face twisted into a quick frown at the thought, she wasn't sure how she felt about that. She tried to ignore it but it ate away at her mind, it was a painful thing to think about being alone for all that time and now trying to change it. She wasn't sure she liked it, but she was trying none the less. If anything, Veronica seemed to be having a good time, and that was good enough for Hina, she supposed anyway. |

Veronica's worry seemed to fade rather quickly if she had overstepped her boundaries. She smiles widely when offered the sketch, which she takes graciously. "You are kind girl. Am impressed. I thank you much." She folds the sketch and slips it into her purse, giving Asahina an appreciative nod. "Please, would love to walk." She smiles and gives her a gesture to go ahead and put her laptop away, taking her flash drive and putting it away herself. When she returns Veronica is already looking through the lens at the lake. "Ah. You are quick. Good. I hear things about lake. Rumors, but different to see in person yes?" She turns towards the path and gives her a gentle beckon with her fingers to begin their walk. Veronica's eyes are everywhere, and strangely enough not through her camera at first. As if she were unsure what sight she wanted to snap first. "I hear that bathing together in springs near here bind fates together. Should try that sometime, no?" She was clearly teasing Asahina, but it didn't take away what she just blurted out, all the while bearing a cheeky grin. |

Hina blushed quite brightly when Veronica asked to bathe with her, even in high school she never really did the community shower thing. She tended to shy away from others in every aspect of her life, and something like that was certainly a rather glaring reason to avoid people she thought. Either way, the idea sounded rather different. The way her recent life had been going, she certainly expected it to happen at some point. Either way she couldn't help but blush. She watched the girl as she spied around the lake, walking with her at a comfortable pace. She looked around as well, looking over the scenery. She watched as Vi snapped a few pictures, looking forward to seeing them later. Her eyes wandered after a moment, staring over the lake at the buildings on the horizon. She sighed happily at the sight, it was just so calming to see the city from far away. The noise and movement drowned out in the distance, she could enjoy the time with her new friend. She still felt strange calling her that, but it was growing on her... "It might be fun to do something like that. I've never really done anything like it before." She tried not to make eye contact with Veronica as she said this, embarrassed by her lack of social experience. Instead she observed a nearby building, a skyscraper of a building no less. She took in the size of the thing, feeling dwarfed by it in comparison. She hadn't really done any designs of that scale before, it occurred to her, maybe she should try it. She was desperately trying not to think about what she had just agreed to, fearing it'd cause her cheeks to overheat. Edited by Tatl Tael, Jun 28 2014, 09:55 AM.

Veronica froze at her response, eyes locked on her as if unsure if she was pulling her leg. When she realized she was serious she let out a long rolling laugh. "Aahahahahaha! Oh! You are darling. It was joke. Bathing together is something lovers do. Was only teasing." Veronica laughs a little longer, eventually calming down. "Aaah... sorry. Do not mean to laugh so. Was not expecting response. You are surprise. Surprise is good. Keep interesting. You are interesting." Even though she ceased laughing, her greatly amused smile was still plastered on her face. After giving her plenty of time to reply, she decides to have mercy. "Here, will help. Hear other things about lake. Spiritual, some say. Haunted, others. Nighttime lake comes alive, is said. Perhaps we should sneak out at night and investigate? Could be fun. Learn mystery. See beauty in evening. Hear they leave garden lights on in some place." |

Hina's face was as red as an apple now. She couldn't believe she walked right into that, she damned herself at first, then after a few seconds, started to chuckle as well. It was pretty funny, she didn't really know what to say and just blurted out the first thing she thought Vi wanted to hear. It taught her a small valuable lesson, think before you speak. She certainly understood the meaning more now. Though she thought of her homeland for a brief second, in Japan they do have those public bath things right? So maybe it wasn't so weird after all. She shook her head. Blush slowly fading from her face as her embarrassment slowly faded. The girl continued, talking about other things she'd heard about the lake, rumors and such. She rolled her eyes at the haunted one, she didn't believe in ghosts. It was a silly stupid thing, she was never really a fan of the super natural or anything. Still though, seeing the lake at night might be fun. She nodded, that sounded like a good idea. "All right, lets do that." She stopped for a second, taking out her phone, going through it to the contact list. "Would you mind if I add you to my phone's contacts? I don't want to be pushy or anything..." She wasn't sure what the proper etiquette for this was. So she just bluntly asked. "I figure it'd be easier to make plans this way..." She trailed off suddenly nervous about having asked this question. "I wouldn't mind coming back here to see the lake at night." |

Seeing her blush so deeply earned another chuckle from Veronica. Asahina would have to be on her guard, but not in the way she normally thought. The Russian girl proved more than willing to mess with her a little bit She reaches over and gently pats her shoulder. "Do not worry. Don't mean rude." She cocked her head at Asahina's agreement to do that later. She just realized she'd made two separate plans with the morose looking girl. "Thank you, but... We said two things now. Cathedral or Lake first? Lake could do later, suppose. Dress warmer for colder night." She wasn't really particular when they did these things, but wanted to hear what her friend thought. "Oh? Sure, sure. Do not mind. Take number, call when lonely. Will cheer you up." The offer was said with another cheeky smile, but she was sincere about her being free to call whenever. Veronica seemed to be an active girl, but rarely in a situation where she couldn't take a call outside of classes. "Good. Will see what trouble we can find." Her grammar was slowly improving as she focused on making herself clearer to understand. Mostly for Asahina's benefit. |
