Although it was within Rei's particular mindset to refer to the otherwise heavenly bell as "shrill," if only because it often awoke him from some deep and pleasant slumber, on this particular day it was not so. In fact, one would have described the anxious feeling that kept him awake through even the most boring of math classes as "incessant," so the relief that came when the bell finally sounded was like having a great weight lifted from one's shoulders.

Even still it wasn't particularly written across one's face but rather, dwelled beneath the surface. Certainly one or two boring students who'd tried to approach him had commented on it, but were swiftly brushed off with small declarations of "I have a club meeting to attend" or some other excuse. Of course nothing of the sort had occupied him, but the simple fact remained that one had to at least divulge some sort of courtesy even in the presence of otherwise unfavourable or boorish individuals.

Regardless, one would have called it a renewed sense of life if not for the myriad conflicting thoughts going through their mind. Though the bluenette hadn't allowed himself to forget about the day in the tunnels there was a certain mental block that had hung over the affair until that morning, when someone had said something about Hikari returning to school. Beyond the simple fact that he was interesting and somewhat relatble in his boredom and isolation, there was something much more grandiose behind that particular feeling with whih he was consumed. Sora Hikari was a Persona User, and Sora Hikari most certainly wasn't stupid.

As Rei rounded a corner after reaching the Sophomore classrooms, he found himself tuning out the people around him as per instinct. It was only natural for one to deafen themselves to the chatter of other people when they were engaged in hobbies, yet for whatever reason that effectively meant that anything relevant would have been much clearer. Regrettably it seemed as though nothing of the sort resounded through the halls, nor was anyonethere particularly fitting of the profile he sought and thus, they were all more or less masses of grey expelling white noise.

A smirk replaced the stoic expression when at last he caught the target he so sought emerging from a second-year classroom. Immediately (and attempting to be as nonchalant as possible) he spoke.

"Sora, could I borrow you for a moment?"

The first day back to school after the tunnel incident was a somewhat strenuous experience for Sora. Normally focusing on the coursework wouldn't have been anywhere near as much of a problem, but his mind kept wandering back to the things he saw both in the tunnels and those ruins he woke up in. Not to mention the utter strangeness of that "Velvet Forge" he showed up in after Volvagia awoke. At those thoughts the chain around his neck seemed to almost get heavier, almost to remind him of the fate he was bound to now.

So focused on the contemplation of those events, he barely noticed the bell ring to signify the end of class. Almost jolting out of his trance like state, he packed up his stuff and prepared to walk out of the classroom, only to notice Rei Takeda near the door. This was the first time he had seen Rei since the event, and his eyes were almost drawn to the bracelet around his wrist. So I was right in my assumptions, Sora thought, He is a Persona User as well.

It was at this point that he heard a question that he himself would have asked if Rei hadn't gotten to it already. To it he gave the reply, "Sure. But if it's about these," pointing to his own chain around his neck, " we should find someplace quiet." He could only think of a few places in the school that would be ideal for it, and even then there was the possibility of people barging in at random.

An excess of chattering from a few groups of students lounging by the windows was swiftly tuned out, again because it lacked any sense of purpose or any truly relevant information. That, and the situation didn't quite call for such eavesdropping tactics that were on the whole, befitting of a much more amoral or bizarre human being. If anything, the only reason why one found themselves doing it was because in boredom, they had often turned to others. If a snippet of the conversation proved interesting or relevant it could fire the imagination and keep the mental engine going for much longer than normal.

But regardless, as Rei caught nothing of the sort his entire being was instead focused on Sora. Or perhaps more accurately, the sharp red-brown eyes remained fixated on the Arcana Chain and the medallion, both of which generated a bizarre sense of warmth and terror, like being embraced by one's best friend only to be stabbed in the back repeatedly. The former was perfectly natural, the same response one had felt upon seeing the blue butterfly guide the group to the tunnels, or upon first entering that Velvet Forge.

The latter, however... was more or less in connection with the former event, and so it was swiftly shooed out of one's mind as any and all unfavourable thoughts were: with an adjustment of the glasses to keep from going idle and a shift in focus to the Roman numeral for one. Of course, a mental note of such a thing ensued, solely because Rei knew very little about Tarot besides the simple fact that XVIII was The Moon and IV was the Emperor, both from a combination of Alicia's readings and Igor's.

All of these threads of thought seemed to occur simultaneously when applicable and on a linear plain when not, which in itself was perhaps a testament to just how excited Rei truly was. To say one had an ally that wasn't an imbecile was in and of itself something of a reward for having put up with the stupid ones, people that associating with was now considered its own little act of failure. Certainly he enjoyed their company for the time he'd been with them, but the manner in which everyone communicated (or didn't communicate) coupled with the general uninteresting personalities... effectively meant they were dead to him.

Or rather, the other three had blended into the crowd like seamless grey blobs, just as the other and unimportant students so often did.

Regardless, Rei gave his reply calmly, and with a slight hint of a smile. After all, Sora was at the very least intelligent, their discussion of the murders had revealed that. Though to say one wouldn't have expected such a thing due to previous conspicuous conversations with the blonde boy who was not to be named or Ai (in the case of the latter it was excusable, as they were distant from the crowd even if they were still by and large close to it,) would have been perfectly true.

"I see... the literature club room then. There isn't a meeting going on today, so it's doubtful anyone will intrude. Normally I would suggest the roof but for whatever reason, this school seems to enjoy keeping it locked."

It was one of the few things the bluenette genuinely missed about Japan. To take one's lunch with some degree of solitude while gazing down upon the courtyard like some great overseer, or to have nice private conversations with the few acquaintances he'd had... it was wonderful, and yet even in the nostalgia one couldn't quite fault or fret over the fact that Ravencroft kept theirs locked... if only because the notion of some unseen incident hung in the air.

As laws become necessary for men, they are no longer fit for freedom.

Perhaps that applies to locks as well?

With a small sigh Rei began to head off, casually fixing his sleeve so as to hide the irritating bracelet beneath the cloth.

"Before I ask my questions, I'm happy to answer any of yours while we walk."

The literature club was not a club that Sora had remembered hearing about, then again he normally just let the talk of clubs pass straight through his head. Even so just by the name it sounded like it wouldn't be all that popular, so the club room, if it wasn't shared with another club, would probably be pretty empty outside of club activities. And the roof was still locked now that Rei mentioned it, which was pretty disappointing. It was always nice to just eat on the roof and bask in the breeze and nice quiet atmosphere of the roof.

Sora followed behind Rei as the he lead him towards the club room. During the walk Rei mentioned he would be happy to answer any questions. Sora contemplated a number of questions, including what happened to the others. But he figured that he would meet the others soon enough. So he simply asked, "What do you know of those things we encountered? And what do you know of someone named Father Cameron?" He needed to know more of those creatures if he was to encounter those and more like them. And Father Cameron's cryptic words still hung in the back of his head. Sora wondered just who that guy really was, and what he was truly after.

Luckily for the two of them and the nature of their conversation, the walk to the Lit Club room was a relatively short one. Even still, Rei had opted to ask his question not because of that, but rather because it very well could have been swallowed up in the noise or dismissed as something vague and/or ridiculous. If asked what a Persona was one could have replied with the immediate, Jungian response, for example. In short, it was like a trio of defences: the vague, the potential to be swallowed up by noise, and the audacity or ridiculousness of it all came together in one beautiful bit of anonymity.

Or so one hoped.

But regardless, the bluenette adjusted his glasses with a small sigh, taking in Sora's questions with an air of intrigue. Of course, the latter question was one he had become accustomed to answering and so it would have been an almost automatic response, as though he were reading out of an encyclopaedia on the subject. After all, having hear the repetitive term "Shadow World" during the meeting with Igor and having been gifted with a power known as Persona, the Jungian connotations seemed so terribly overt that any other name for them would have been imbecilic.

It was simply unfortunate that the beings' actual composition was so terribly eldritch. Not only did one not know what had caused such mechanical creatures to come into being, but regrettably it wasn't as though he truly wanted to know in the first place. In fact, there may not have even been a reason for it at all but rather, that when a Shadow was "Born" it was simply given those characteristics, rather than being some sort of manufactured monster as the oil and gasoline would have suggested.

Regardless, the only thing keeping Rei from actually speaking in that instant was his so-called "friend's" latter question. Certainly it was natural that one tried to probe their own mind for anything even vaguely resembling a "Father Cameron," but having no interest in religion or the goings on of the city (well, the minor goings on such as parties, Church or Bar events, things of that nature) had effectively left a gaping hole in the thought process. Though they still continued to turn as though something would come up, stopping only when they entered the club room.

Sighing, Rei planted himself in a chair and began to explain.

"Firstly, to my knowledge they're referred to as Shadows. This is a twofold name, the first coming from the fact that the Other World, Other Side, Dark World... whatever name you have for it, is to my knowledge, often referred to as the Shadow World. Secondly, if we wield Personae it is only fitting that the enemy shares an equally Jungian name."

Here there was a slight pause, as if to allow Sora to take it all in. Though in all actuality the bluenette simply stopped to adjust his glasses and gather the remaining thoughts in a manner that did not make him feel incompetent for not being able to answer every question. Sadly the negative thoughts renamed, though at the very least the usual mantra was spared solely on the excuse that indeed, one could not know everything about the city of Rockport no matter how much they truly wanted to.

"I don't hold an interest in religion, so I'm afraid that name doesn't ring any bells whatsoever. Why do you ask?"
