Summer's humidity had been drowned out by the wails of the rain on the day Shu Mikami was finally deemed well enough to leave the hospital, and head out into the world. Of course, the first thing that had to be done was to visit Ravencroft and acquire/fill out the forms for a custom uniform, if only because he of his whole "susceptibility to the cold" thing.

As he approached the school, one hand holding a cup of coffee and the other a black umbrella, the future scientist took a single sip from his drink and held the umbrella up as he moved to adjust his thick glasses. Hopefully he wouldn't be scolded for wearing his lab coat over his uniform, if only because he couldn't remove it for fear of becoming sick again, and needing ANOTHER IV.

Oddly enough, a few students roamed the grounds as well, probably due to tours or something. The student found himself becoming more uncomfortable each time he looked in the general direction of the others, but upon discarding his suddenly empty coffee cup, and popping in his headphones, he felt his confidence returning, if only temporarily.

After about a minute of just standing in front of the gate, he took his first steps onto the school's property and made it a note to smile. The dark skies seemed to make his pale-grey skin have an odd, bluish hue. As if he had been one of those men, one of those who had "enjoyed" a bit too much colonial silver. The only difference was the shade.

(OOC: Colonial silver is commonly found in mineral water and, despite minor nutritional value, can dye one's eyes, skin, and lips permanently blue. If you're curious, he's listening to this.)

Despite the last few days, during which Rockport was overlooked by a beautiful clear sky, today was not the same. No, the skies were far from clear. Rain falling all around, it was a downpour. And on the very day Isaac decided to tour the grounds. What brilliant luck. On normal circumstances he would consider simply not going but he had already put this off for far too long. With a sigh, he finally decided to get up and head out for the school to take a look at his new school.

Wearing a raincoat, he headed out with a small brochure for the city in hand. There was a map included so he didn't think it would be too much of a problem to get there. His assumption, however, was dead wrong and it took him a fair while to actually get to school despite having a map with him.

After finally getting to the school gates, it was actually fairly surprising to see how large it was. Certainly a change of pace... he continued to walk in while admiring the scenery. However, he didn't notice the boy with the umbrella who was standing right in the middle of his path. The result of this was him bumping into him and dropping the brochure. Reverting his attention back to the matters at hand, Isaac said "Sorry about that." and bent down to pick up the brochure, now wet and spoiled. He looked to the boy afterwards and noticed that he was quite pale... almost frighteningly so. "Hey, are you alright?" he said, some concern being raised on his condition. Hopefully there was nothing wrong with him but given the paleness, accompanied by a slight blue color on his skin, would make people think otherwise.

The exact moment he was bumped into, Shu dropped his umbrella and let out a very faint, nervous apology that was drowned out as the rain poured around them, and soaked the oddly-garbed boy in the few seconds that it took for him to collect the item that shielded him from the downpour.

As he was spoken to, it took him a moment to register that fact, and another to turn down the volume on his music enough to properly hear over the rain's wailing. After that, it took Shu another minute or so to muster up the courage to actually speak, only to find himself disappointed at his own performance thanks to his persisting stutter,

"I-I'm f-f-fine..."

He turned around as he spoke, only to suddenly look down as if interested in the texture of the ground beneath him. As he stared in that general direction, he adjusted his glasses and waited for any kind of response.

After bumping into him, the boy dropped his umbrella. Taking a short while to react, he picked up his umbrella. He didn't address Isaac immediately though. It took a while for him to actually reply, saying "I-I'm f-f-fine...". The stuttering in his voice did make Isaac think otherwise though. He then was about to turn to face him but then promptly looked to the ground. Isaac didn't think leaving a guy who could potentially fall ill at any moment was a good idea so for now, he decided to stick with him.

He took one step forward. And then, turning to the boy, he said "So, why're you here right now?". To be honest, why were there so many people at school before the year even started? It could be for the obvious reason to tour the grounds before the year starts but he didn't think there would be this many unfamiliar with the place. Perhaps the talk of this school being a haven for people from all countries wasn't just a rumor. With dull thoughts like these filling his mind, he awaited a response from the boy... Wait, he hadn't quite gotten an introduction yet. "Oh, my name is Isaac Langley by the way. And you are?"

The sound of the other boy starting to move caused Shu's head to turn slightly in the direction of the noise. As that happened, he allowed his free hand to adjust his glasses, and then return to his side as he answered the question,

"I'm h-here for bo-both a tour and... to get p-p-permission to wear this over my u-u-unif-uniform."

With that, he tugged lightly on the wet, white fabric of the lab coat, and, seeing that the conversation would likely continue and that there was no point in remaining outside, began to walk towards the entrance.

"I'm Shu Mikami."

He responded upon being asked for his name. Then, he actually noticed the lack of people both outside the school and through some of the windows. So, why was the other boy there? That thought was soon voiced in a stuttering, meek manner,

"Uhm... So... wh-why are you here, exactly?"

Shortly after, the boy replied "I'm h-here for bo-both a tour and... to get p-p-permission to wear this over my u-u-unif-uniform.". What he meant was the thing he was tugging at, the white lab coat. Why one would need to wear something like that to school is beyond him, but he decided to leave it unquestioned for the moment.

They started to walk to the entrance upon which the boy introduced himself as Shu Mikami. "Pleased to meet you Shu." said Isaac. Despite saying he was pleased, his expression remained the same throughout, stoic and seeming like he doesn't care much. As they walked, Shu asked Isaac, "Uhm... So... wh-why are you here, exactly?", his stutter significantly decreasing.

"I'm here to get a tour as well." he stated simply. Perhaps it would be wise to take a tour with someone else and gain an acquaintance in this town. It would probably help some time in the future and it would be nice to have a friend around.

When the "pleased to meet you" came from the other boy, Shu simply nodded in response. It wasn't that he was being rude, or anything. It was simply that keeping talking to a minimum also kept the stuttering to a minimum, and therefore did not irritate people or the future scientist himself. All in all though, the gesture was something he had gone through often, yet it still felt nice to have such a thing said to him.

The next statement that came from Isaac's mouth generated a small smile on his face. The supposed lack of students would've made a tour awkward, yes. But if there was at least one other person, a person that he knew even in the slightest, it wouldn't be as bad.

As they approached the doors, Shu quietly opened one and stepped inside, holding it for the other boy once he'd passed through. The second he entered the building, there was a comforting wave of warmth that washed over him, and the sound of water hitting the floor from both his hair and coat seemed to be almost as loud as the rain, that was once he'd closed the door behind him, of course.

"W-W-What about your, your h-hobbies?"

Shu seemed noticeably pleased after hearing. After that, the two quietly continued onto the building. Shu held the door open for him a bit, to which Isaac quietly said "Thank you.". Everything was silent on their part and all that could be heard was the rain, cold and loud, falling unrelentingly outside. For a moment Isaac looked outside and just stopped to wonder for a moment.

"W-W-What about your, your h-hobbies?" Shu asked. Shaking himself back to the real world, he thought about it for a while and then realized; There really only were a few things he could actually consider hobbies. "I guess my only real hobbies are playing video games and reading books."

With a short sigh, he then proceeded to ask, "What about you? What are your hobbies?" he said.

Shu seemed to simply space out as he continued along, moving towards the area that was thought to contain the school's main office with little else in mind. Would they accept his reasoning? Did he even need it? Could he even gather the courage to ask for the necessary forms?

Such thoughts were soon scattered like mice when Isaac answered his question. Judging from the thing he enjoyed, it seemed they'd get along rather well, to say the least. When Isaac asked the same question back to him, Shu's response was much less stutter ridden. Either due to the caffeine's effects kicking in and making him feel more courageous, or the familiarity.

"The s-same things as y-you, but i-instead of reading... I practice science. Y-Yes, all forms of it! I know how to e-even c-c-c-create controlled explosions with water, chlorine, and sodium!"

Shortly afterwards, they arrived in front of what appeared to be the school's office. Perhaps this was to be where he would inquire about his uniform. Before Shu went in though, he answered, "The s-same things as y-you, but i-instead of reading... I practice science. Y-Yes, all forms of it! I know how to e-even c-c-c-create controlled explosions with water, chlorine, and sodium!"

A science man, eh? It wasn't really surprising, given the lab coat, but it was still interesting. "No kidding? That's kind of cool." Isaac replied. He was, of course, referring to the part about explosions. Though he did have to wonder what kind of person would make controlled explosives for who knows whatever reason.

He wasn't heading into office though. Perhaps he needed a confidence boost. "You should go in there and ask about your uniform. I'll wait out here and then we can tour the grounds together." ... Well, that didn't turn out exactly as he'd hoped, but perhaps it would still have the desired effect...

Shu stood in front of the office, idly shifting his weight from side to side when Isaac responded to his bit about creating contained, controlled explosions using chemicals. In response, Shu nodded and brushed his coat off, then proceeded to tug at the tie of his uniform. All in all, it was difficult for him to sit still, a thing born solely of his nervousness.

Isaac's attempt at confidence boosting didn't seem to work, but after a moment or so, Shu was able to reassure himself that it was one of those things he simply couldn't work around. After all, it wasn't like anyone else could enter the office and do it for him! With one final reassurance, Shu stepped forward...

___
And returned about five minutes later, noticeably less nervous than before. Letting out a huge sigh of relief, Shu approached Isaac and adjusted his glasses before speaking. In spite of his supposed confidence, he still stuttered,

"I-I did it. S-S-so.. anyway, any questions... a-about me, or anything?"
