"You're right, I suppose. The climate here is fairly pleasant, but I prefer cold to warm and wet to dry. However, I can't explain why I feel that way."

She didn't actually respond to him about this, did not feel obligated to. It was not important to her, not as much as all else that she was doing. However, the girl suddenly realized something: She had been talking about herself, about today, and he had not exactly explained himself. Perhaps that was why she had decided to follow him, to know. Once out of the crowd and able to look around more casually, Anri decided to broach this subject, her glare settling on him now.

"So, why are you out here?"

In fairness, she felt it was a reasonable thing to be asking. Not about the hospital, per se, but just what he was up to at the moment, and perhaps why he'd invited her to tag along. That was the odd part. Maybe to talk, but it wasn't necessary, so...what then?

More scanning was involved as Rei tried to pinpoint his present location on the mental "copy" of that map. Once that was complete, he looked around for a moment and continued forward, taking in the atmosphere once more as they moved. Now, however, the scent of that place had faded, both from his clothes and the general area as a whole. All in all, it made him feel... happier, not exactly one hundred percent, up with life euphoric, but certainly better than before.

When the girl asked her question, Rei began to wonder whether or not it would be wise to lie. Surely, she seemed to be intelligent enough to see through them, but what if he told her his reason? That he had been ill in school, and sent to the hospital? Would she pity him? Pity, that was certainly a word that was met with despise. At least, when it was unneeded. In the end, the student decided a half-truth was better, and went from there,

"I was in the hospital, but upon leaving I felt... lost. Which is why I approached you. Why are you out here, Anri-sa---"

And then, he immediately caught himself and instead utilized a more "Western" formality. Old habits died hard, after all.

"--- Miss Anri, I'm sorry."

He seemed to pause before answering, possibly debating on whether he should or not. The girl watched him, almost unblinking. Yes, there was some question on how well she might see through a lie. Anri was not a detector of such things, though, so it's not like she'd automatically know somehow. No, the real problem is that she would not know...but she might suspect, and that might lead to the wrong thing. Still, Rei did answer. He was ill, apparently, and needed to go there. Then...he asked her why SHE was there, and that caused the girl to flinch, but not at the use of the Japanese honoriffic. Recovering from being taken aback thus, she shook her head.

"It doesn't bother me."

Now, it was her time to pause, because perhaps this was why he did. He was perhaps unsure of what to say. Embarassed? Private? Either was possible, or something more. In Anri's case, it involved things of pain. So finally, she decided on the following answer to give, an honest one that would state succinctly what it was about without revealing too much. She did so with a rather harsh glare...

"I was in to see my psychiatrist...and I do not wish to explain further."

In the moments that came prior to the girl's statement, Rei found himself glancing back, if only for a fleeting glimpse of information anywhere on the girl's face. Unfortunately, he had not been wise enough to check when she had flinched, though he could still tell something was amiss up until the point she composed herself, and said everything was fine. Which, in turn, was followed by the almost customary long pause.

He didn't bother to analyze the silence as he often did, instead coming to the conclusion that she was going through the same motions he had moments prior. When the answer came, there was something akin to understanding written across Rei's face, though he still tried to think of a reason as to why the girl would even need a therapist in the first place.

Perhaps it had to do with her distrustful nature... or her introversion. But what could be the underlying issues that caused such things? Perhaps it was chemical imbalance, just like the psychology books had written off some "issues" as. Ah, it was truly a fruitless effort! There was simply no way to get a definitive answer working in such conditions.

"I see. What are your hobbies?"

(Apologies for grammatical errors in this one, I'm feeling kind of overworked due to school so I may not be at 100 percent.)

He did not pursue further. Good. He was, therefore, going to be on better terms than her therapist, whom she hated. She didn't want to be in touch with her past feelings, to come to terms with this or that. She already knew what she wanted. She wanted bad people to die... Rei, at least, was being courteous or even understanding about her privacy on this matter, but he was not going to be instantly trusted. No no no... She had been open to people before and one of them crossed a very important line. So, Anri now heard the 'Change Of Subject Card' being passed out as Rei asked her...

"I see. What are your hobbies?"

That...made her pause, in confusion this time. Hobbies? What...did she do that counted as them? Anri gave this some thought, and finally came up with an answer...or one that seemed to fit. She wasn't sure, since she'd kind of been away from people for a while.

"If you mean things I just do...I read books, and I tend to train myself...ALOT."

It was a bit of a one-track, but then she had been regarded as a balanced person, skilled and capable, solemn and intelligent...though her grades were actually normal last she checked and her solemn attitude was just...personality sometimes.

The answer that was given was not simple, or at least it didn't feel that way to Rei. Why? Because despite the simplicity of her words, it also answered a few of the questions that had popped up, and yet also caused more to spring up in their place, like weeds. Firstly, the reading hobby told him that the girl was intelligent, yet... what kind of genres did she like? It was good that such a thing was a shared hobby between the two, as it would open up the door for future conversations.

Next, her training. Why did she train herself so diligently? Though, it did answer the question regarding her movement, and even allowed him to infer that she was the type to be diligent when tasks needed clearing. In short, Rei was impressed. Not impressed in a manner that was written on his face, per se, but there was a smile as he spoke his next words,

"Ah, I see. I enjoy reading as well... what's your favorite genre?"

That stumped her for the moment, giving her an expression that said this clearly. Hand to her chin, eyes focused not on him but ahead in a manner matching that of deep throught, Anri mulled that one over a bit. She was both never asked that before now and uncertain of what the answer should be. So, with the gears turning in her head, so to speak, she compared this to what she knew her friends and family liked.

Dad reads magazines and non-fiction, mom likes folktales and old stories, Max reads science fiction, Shiro likes plays and dramas... What does Hakuro like? I don't know that either. I don't usually HAVE a preference myself that I'm aware of...

However, there was an answer. She was something of a traditionalist. She could be seen in previous years helping her mother with practices in a kimono of her own. Her mother's stories were also something she liked, as well as- Ah...that was it.

"Mythology and...fantasy types."

She gave a nod, to confirm that this was what she'd settled on. She was reading quite alot of other things, but perhaps this was what she was more into from the start.

As they came to an intersection, and were therefore made to wait as a result, Rei turned to face the girl while he awaited her response. The expression, one that portrayed deep thought, spoke to him. It said that the girl likely hadn't settled on a favorite genre just as he hadn't. Though, such an assumption was wrong due to the answer that sprang up moments after Takeda came to such a conclusion.

A continued chirping noise, as well as a green light indicated that it was the time to cross as the girl gave her answer. Mythology and fantasy? Well, the two often went hand in hand, and most of the stories were meant to either teach lessons to people or tie into religions. All in all, the two genres were interesting . In response, Rei placed his hands in his pockets, and shot the girl a satisfied smile as he replied.

"Ah, I see. I've never really settled on a favorite genre, myself. Although if I had to choose right now, I'd say either the classics... such as Heller's Catch-22 or something to that effect, or mysteries."

(Apologies for this one's poor quality.)

It was really ore of a case of her taking a past-look at what she seemed to be reading and deciding on what her preference must be right there. No worries, just doing what she thought felt was natural to do at the time. Anri seemed to have a habit of not considering certain things that just never came up in conversation for a good long while. It was just a thing about her, to leave that for another day if it wasn't relevent.

"Ah, I see. I've never really settled on a favorite genre, myself. Although if I had to choose right now, I'd say either the classics... such as Heller's Catch-22 or something to that effect, or mysteries."

"Catch...Twenty-Two? What is that?"

Ah, she was not familiar, then, with the political/military satire commenting on the pitfalls of same in a darkly-comedic way, layers upon layers of little nuances that you continue to grow in unerstanding towards as you re-read it for years to come.

[OOC: I'm aware this was a book I referenced her reading previously, but it wouldn't have happened here yet.]

The girl's question regarding the book was met with a short, inaudible curse. If only he'd been re-reading the book! Though, such occurrences, ones where individuals were blessed by fate in minor ways at times such as the present, tended only to exist within the realms of the very books they'd been discussing. With a sigh, the bluenette brushed his fringe from his right eye, only to find it move back into place with the aid of the wind moments later. At that point, he finally responded, having dwelled on his terrible luck for far too long, and having been able to compile a decent response to her statement,

"It's an anti-war novel, something of a black comedy. All in all, it's about..."

And then, he went into it for a short while, making sure not to spoil anything of significance. Instead, Rei discussed a few minor things about the characters, writing style, and plot of the book, keeping it vague so nothing would be ruined. All in all, his own dialogue style at this point was akin to a mechanic that was a bit too passionate about discussing the inner workings of machinery, easily conflicting with his usual stoic tone of voice.

"...In short, I'd say you should read it."

He concluded, adjusting his glasses and watching the odd car pass them by. While they continued, his expression slowly went through the motions of returning to that sort of aloof stoicism he often presented, as opposed to the smiles he'd been handing out like candy up until that point. Of course, it wouldn't take much for such a shell to crack once more, seeing as how it hadn't taken much effort in the first place, if any.

First, she waited for him to respond, and then she understood what took him so long. It was a bit of a complex novel, one which both served the purpose of an underlying message or theme, this one against war, while otherwise being multi-layered on double-meanings, ridiculous actions of sane people, and deeper darker themes of character given a light-hearted feel with their vices and general weird. She found this...rather interesting. It sounded like a book worth reading.

"...In short, I'd say you should read it."

"Yes, perhaps I should. It seems as though I could get into it."

She largely-ignored his aloofness, already considering instead where to actually get this book. Yes, that was largely her concern right now. Frankly, as long as her mission was being undertaken and he wasn't irking her, they could talk for quite a while. Anri just didn't like the false nature of her therapist. At least, this boy had the sense to NOT pry if she so wished it. They might even get along. Who knows, they might be- Hmmm...

"You mentioned school. What grade?"

When the girl seemed remotely interested in the novel, Rei began to wonder if he should be wise, and write down the name and author in case she should forget. Of course, he waved such thoughts away, if only because of the girl's intelligence and diligence likely preventing her from letting something disappear from her mind so quickly.

Rei continued forward, no longer focused on what was directly ahead of him so much as the world around him as a whole. The hustle and bustle of the people, the architecture of the buildings, and so on. After all, just because there was a task at hand to complete didn't mean that one couldn't take there time in completing it, right?

When Anri spoke up, asking her question regarding grades, the bluenette ran his fingers through his hair and replied,

"I'm a senior. That's... fourth year here? The numbering system is still a bit foreign to me. What about you?"

"I tested into tenth."

Tested into? Had she been away? Ah wait, that probably had something to do with whatever reasons she had for seeing a therapist. Best not to ask about that. Anri seemed to have run out of things to say about now. She had been curious about his grade because she wondered if the boy and her would be in similar classes. It was not for her to know, then. She turned to Rei now and said this...

"It's been an interesting conversation, but I have much to do today and it will need my concentration. Therefore, I must leave you."

She turned to do so. Not exactly one for hanging out, is she?

The girl's response to his standard counter-question was one that intrigued him, to say the least. After all, the only students that needed to be "tested into" grades were ones that teachers thought were capable of doing more, returning dropouts, or students absent for long periods of time due to "issues" of any kind. Naturally the former and latter answers seemed to be the most logical, and piecing them together Rei found that it could, had it been the last one, have tied into her reason for visiting the hospital.

Prying wasn't his nature, analyses and waiting for information to be presented to him was. Therefore, he was silent about his assumptions and waited to see if there was anything left to be said. With Anri's farewell, Rei nodded faintly and began to focus more on the task at hand.

(Exeunt: Social Link Go.)
