Noel's Theme

The sound of a piano followed by light orchestrated string instruments came out of the music room. The day was at it's end and students were leaving. After a few seconds a voice followed the sounds of the instruments. The voice sounded sad, depressed almost but it fit right along with the piece that was playing.

The music room's door was barely open. One peering in would only see the long black hair of the person at the piano swaying to the piece she was playing, a small cd player underneath the bench where the string instrument noise seemed to appear from.

The cane-ridden boy was simply on his way out of the building when he heard the piano in the music room being passionately smashed away at. He came to the conclusion that it was his favorite resident pianist and, upon investigation through the sliver that was the cracked door, he turned out to be right. He decided, however, instead of making his presence vastly known in a loud, attention-grabbing entrance, to make a nice, subtle, quiet entrance. He wanted to be able to hear the rest of this song in it's full glory, and what better way then to leave her unaware that she had an audience.

So Travis started this stealthy mission by slowly opening the door, making any changes to the environment slow and subtle, as to keep Miya unaware of his entrance. After getting the door open wide enough for the boy to squeeze through, the boy took great care in lightly tapping his cane on the ground, as opposed to the loud, remarkable stamps he usually made as he strolled about. He had to admit; it was tough to switch suddenly from the hustle and bustle of the halls to the quiet, open area of the music room. Finally after about half a minute of silently treading over to the seat closest to the door, Travis settled down in it, laid Theodore across his lap, and silently took in Miya's melodies.

He chuckled, breaking the music-filled silence quite abruptly, he couldn't help but notice the alliteration in his thoughts. Then, when he realized that he had blew his own cover, he mentally smacked his fore-head with his palm. "Don't mind me; just thought I'd pop in and listen for a minute." the boy said quietly, trying not to further break the upperclasswoman's attention. Perhaps his interruption would be helpful; he could notice if the girl played better for audiences as opposed to playing alone.

Another day had come to an end, and much like everyone else in the building, Rei Takeda was quick to make his escape from what others deemed to be an institution of knowledge, but he felt to be little more than a waste of time. As he strode through the halls with a sort of quickness about him that spoke to others with the message of "I have somewhere else to be", he soon paused in his tracks, due to a melody that floated through the air.

Such a tune was almost spellbinding to the bluenette, if only because the one playing the piano and singing along with the music had to have been remotely skilled, and the piano just so happened to be one of his favorite instruments due to how it conveyed emotion. With a short smile etched onto his pale face, the boy approached the music room, and made his way inside silently.

As he entered, he took note of two students. The first one simply sat and listened, holding a cane across his lap. Why would he need such a thing? What sort of leg injury did he suffer from? Either way, Rei's red brown eyes met Travis' for a moment, and then scanned the rest of the room only to find the one playing the music.

Calmly, the student took a seat only to let out a faint "please don't let me disturb you" as he took in the music's full splendor. As he listened, he also payed attention to the way the girl's hands moved from key to key with skill. All in all, he didn't bother to take in her appearance, only what she was doing at that very moment.

The song came to a close as her hands stopped moving along the keyboard. The sound of moving pages was heard as Miya switched to a different sheet for her next piece. As she switched the music over, she stood up from the bench and stretched her arms over her head before kneeling over to change the cd player to the right track for the accompanying music. Moving her hair to the left side of her head is when she noticed the two boys sitting there, listening to her music.

"Guess I forgot to close the door again. Did you enjoy the second performance....Travis right?"

She pointed, while still crouched over, at Travis and his cane. At times she forgot names especially after she gets done playing because the melody is still in her mind despite not touching the keyboard or singing. Standing up she looks over at the other boy. What stood out from him was his blue hair.

"And hello to you too Blue. Gotta say that looks pretty good for being dyed. Sorry if Blue upsets ya just he first name that came to my mind when I saw ya. Name's Miya."

Crossing her arms as she stood, her body shifted to the right as she looked at the two with her right eye, her left hidden by her hair. She didn't mind an audience normally but when she sang is when she didn't like one. She was somewhat self-conscious about her voice and didn't really like singing unless it worked well with her music.

"Sorry if my voice wasn't matching the piece. The words just...Felt right and I went with it.

Travis shifted his vision towards the blue-haired boy when he walked in. They locked glances with each other for a few seconds before the visitor took a seat, giving Miya a casual "Please, don't let me disturb you" as he absorbed the music along with Travis. The young Lance simply shrugged and returned to listening to Miya play. He took in the rest of the angelic noises of the piano until the song came to an end and Miya crouched down to, what Travis assumed to be, toy with a CD player or something of the sort.

It was then Miya toyed with her hair a bit; allowing her to see her less-then-silent audience. "Guess I forgot to close the door again. Did you enjoy the second performance... Travis, right?" she asked, pointing at Travis as she remained in her crouched position. "You would be correct there, pardner." the boy responded, letting a little bit of his western slang slip in. "I can't speak for the entirety of the audience though; you're going to have to ask your other audience member if he liked it too." he added, leaning back in his chair a bit. Miya then turned her attention to the aforementioned blue-haired child.

"-And hello to you too, Blue. Gotta say that looks pretty good for being dyed. Sorry if Blue upsets ya; just the first name that came to my mind when I saw ya. Name's Miya." she said, introducing herself to the new visitor. It was then that Travis, still starting at Miya, noticed that she seemed to cross her arms in annoyance. The boy jokingly put his hands up a little. "If now's a bad time for me to appreciate your musical talents; me and Blue here can scram and leave you to your business." Travis announced, casting his gaze downwards a little as he spoke to complete the "I'm no threat" look.

"Sorry if my voice wasn't matching the piece. The words just... felt right and I went with it. Miya said to the two apologetically. "No need to apologize Mrs. Narikama; one does not need to apologize for their excellency." Travis complimented, letting his hands fall to his thighs with a rather loud "smack". He grabbed Theodore and got back onto his feet. "If I didn't enjoy your music; why would I step in here? To make fun of it?" Travis asked rhetorically, chuckling a little.

Rei remained silent as the events unfolded around him, namely the girl's changing the sheets and track, and her conversation with the other boy, now identified as Travis--- something or other. Calmly, he brushed his fringe from his right eye, and waiting to be addressed by either of the two. When Travis referred to him as the other audience member, Rei took it as a cue to give his opinion and nodded in a way that should have said "I liked it."

Calmly, he adjusted his glasses and then placed his hands in his pocket, things that he often did almost unconsciously. When the girl referred to him as Blue, he pretended not to notice and instead took in the information presented to him. Her name was Miya, she played piano, and that was about it. As for the other boy, well... that was simple, he had a cane for some reason, either class or injury, and spoke intelligently save for a single bit of odd, almost slurred speech that came when he first spoke.

Yet, when Travis referred to him by the same name, that was when he took even the slightest bit of offense to it, if only because of the shared gender between himself and the odd, cane bearing boy. Yes, Rei didn't like other guys, past experiences with bullying and all of that cliched nonsense, but that still wasn't a reason to be rude, so he simply masked his discomfort with the other's usage of nickname and smiled faintly, speaking when the others ceased. Of course, such a ceasing of words also presented more information to him, namely Miya's last name, a name that sounded familiar to him because of its nationality.

"I'm Rei Takeda, and I must say that I enjoyed that very much. Beyond that, it's a pleasure to meet you both and... thank you, for the hair comment."

All in all, the only reason why he'd left his speech for so long was to observe the people around him and see if they presented information. This wasn't like his previous encounters, as the two could converse and he could listen in, picking up on things with minimal effort on his part unless spoken to.

"Some people try to Travis. Then I kick them in the face."

Wither she was joking or not was up for the two to figure out, but she was being serious. She didn't like when people made fun of her music especially when she spent so much time into composing and making it, even when she had lyrics to it.

"It's always fun having an audience that isn't part of the music group though. Means people won't get on me for it sounding off key or being off pitch. Long as my music makes others feel good I like it."

Her visible eye focused on Rei. She had noticed something in his body gesture change but couldn't pin it down. Was it something she said? Or something Travis said? She couldn't tell as she wasn't paying much attention or at least not as much as she needed to.

"So Rei I have to ask. Where DID you get such a great dye? Not that I'm going to but I got a friend who likes to dye her hair. Though nothing as good looking as that."

She leaned in close and looked at Rei's hair, lifting up her bangs to look at it with both eyes. She was amazed mostly because it looked so real. Turning her head to Travis. She had a small snicker on her face as well, before returning her eyes to Rei's hair.

"So Travis. how's that sister of yours doing? Still a funny lil sister? You still howling at the moon?"

"I'm Rei Takeda, and I must say that I enjoyed that very much. Beyond that, it's a pleasure to meet you both and... thank you, for the hair comment." the blue-haired one said, looking slightly discomforted for whatever reason. As Rei introduced himself Miya had started looking at his hair rather intently. Then she struck up a conversation with her old friend Travis. "So Travis; how's that sister of yours doing? Still a funny lil sister? You still howling at the moon?" she said, a small smirk on her face.

She was seriously going to do this? Travis made a noise that seemed to be a fine mixture of a sigh and a light chuckle as he pinched his brow and cocked his head down towards the floor. "She's doing fine; still impatient and torturous as per usual." he started, keeping a light chuckle running between his words; a fine mortar for this comedic mason-work of an atmosphere. "-And no; I have not been 'howlin' at the lake' for perfectly legitimate reasons need-I-remind you." he said in a fake matter-of-factual tone, pointing the walking end of his cane in her direction for dramatic effect.

He rolled his eyes. "You sound just like Kathy, Narikama; except she prefers to say I 'yell at the lake'; I personally think it makes me sound crazier." he chuckled out shortly afterwards, make quotes with his fingers when he said "yell at the lake".

Miya's bit about kicking those who mocked her SOUNDED like a joke, but it certainly didn't seem to feel that way, at least not to the bluenette, who felt that considering the amount of time and effort she appeared to put into her music would be more than enough of reason to be serious about such a thing. However, those notions faded away as the conversation was shifted elsewhere, in a topical sense.

When the question about dye came up, Rei smiled faintly and ran his fingers through his hair. Honestly, he'd had it for as long as he could remember, meaning there really was no answer to the girl's question. The first part of his response was something he'd become accustomed to saying in the future, but in this case, it was little more than a teasing gesture. The next, however, was much more serious,

"Now, that's a secret. I'm afraid I don't remember, this dye is... rather long lasting."

...She's staring at me... why do I feel so... embarrassed?

The next bit of conversation revealed more information about Travis, namely that he had a sister and... something regarding howling at the lake. Naturally, such a statement instilled images into the bluenette's mind, namely Travis howling at the moon like some sort of werewolf. Those thoughts produced a faint chuckle, one that was soon silenced as Takeda re-composed himself and began to assess exactly why one would "yell at the lake." Especially because it seemed erratic and Travis... well, didn't. At least not yet.

"I'm sorry, I simply find that both interesting and amusing."

(OOC: Yes, I'm still using the same reasoning as before, even if it's ridiculous.)

"What can I say Travis, I like to tease people. If you're offended just let me know I'll stop. But what you said after she said that kinda set yourself up for a few jokes."

Miya backed away from Rei and let out a sigh that pretty much said "Aww man." She really wanted to know the dye but even he didn't know. Well she supposed she shouldn't touch the subject till later on. Didn't want to scare the poor kid off anyway.

Looking between the two Miya was a little tense. Flipping a chair around she sat down, the back facing towards the two boys as she sat down facing them. The two of them were so proper that it was beginning to make her feel uncomfortable. Luckily she could easily hide her eyes if she needed to.

"Well I will certainly say that your mothers raised you two right. Not like quite a few of the boys round here. I can tell those manners are, well, real I suppose that's the word I'm looking for. Sheesh makes me feel like I'm walking around with royalty or somethin."

Shrugging a bit, Miya's right hand raised up and began tapping the air, as if she was playing the piano. In truth she was working out the next piece she was going to compose.

"I'm sorry, I simply find that both interesting and amusing." Rei spoke out after giggling at the words Miya and Travis were exchanging in front of him. This made Travis blush a little and toss a playful scowl at Miya. "God dang it Narikama" he chuckled out while she settled into her seat. "Well I will certainly say that your mothers raised you two right. Not like quite a few of the boys round here. I can tell those manners are, well; real I suppose that's the word I'm looking for. Sheesh, makes me feel like I'm walking around with royalty or somethin'." Miya said, shrugging and then tapping away at an air-piano. Travis gave this gesture a momentary weird look, definitely not the most common thing one would see in regular conversation. However he, like Miya, shrugged it off and continued the conversation as if her hand wasn't weirdly tapping away at the air.

"Well; I was exposed to high-class culture at a good age." the boy noted.

(Crummy post, sorry; I felt I was either too tired to properly write out a post or you two didn't give me enough to work with. Probably the former in my opinion)

Naturally, the bluenette's interest was piqued as the two's previous encounter was discussed. What had happened beyond the aforementioned comments? HOW had they met? It seemed likely that, judging by Miya's original statement to Travis about the "Second performance" they had met in a similar situation to the present one. Of course, what happened beyond the playing of music and the joke about the lake was still a mystery, and would likely remain so.

Rei quickly dismissed his thoughts, and silently observed the two, namely Miya as she sighed in an almost disappointed manner due to his statement about the dye. In response, the student tried to put the best apologetic smile he could manage on his pale face, only to let it sit for a few seconds, and then revert back to what it had been moments prior.

The next comment that was made, one about being raised well and in an otherwise "proper" manner, provoked a smile from the bluenette. Travis' comment was quickly followed up by,

"And I was born into a high class family, so.. I too was exposed to a lot of that at a young age..."

The gestures the girl made as she sit, the pantomiming of playing the piano, were met with a look of combined confusion and interest. Perhaps it was simply one of those idle things that people did, like when he ran his fingers through his hair. Or maybe it was just a habit. One could never tell, after all.

"Jeez make me feel more like a commoner."

Miya scratched her head with the hand that wasn't playing a piano. Given her upbringing and where she grew up compared to these two it felt like she shouldn't even be talking to the two but they seemed to be interesting that's for sure. They didn't hold themselves like snubs so that was something to look at.

"I guess that's good for ya manners I suppose. Me...Well nothing so grand that much I can say. Kinda..."

Her voice trailed off, like she didn't want to mention the subject. She didn't like people knowing she lived in a Foster Home because people tended to treat her differently. She hated that and tends to not show up for days after someone does so.

To change the subject Miya had noticed that both were rather confused about her air piano. Most were because in her own mind Miya was already composing her next song or trying to improve another one. It was a habit.

"Have neither of you ever done something like do math in the air? Rather similar cept I'm composing or improving. Though I've had quite the brainfart lately and can't compose anything as well as I should be."

Her head hung in a comical fashion, letting out a sigh.

She let her head hang in a similar fashion as well; it seemed like an upbeat depression, a weird yet slightly-sensible contrast. Travis spoke up once more, "Well; something has to come to you eventually Narikama.". Travis' mind then settled on a subject that was still very vague and unclear to him; the Rei child. He turned himself slightly in the chair towards Takeda's direction.

"Say Takeda, what's the story about you anyways?" he asked, cocking his head a little quizzically. As far as the cane-ridden boy knew; Rei was a stranger to Miya and him, it seemed only natural to want to know more about him.

(Crummy post, sorry in advance.)

Miya's voice trailing off during her response to their "regal" level of manners was met with a slight bit of curiosity from Rei, though the bluenette did not ask nor touch upon the subject at all, instead trying to contain his interest for a later date when the info could be provided in confidentiality and friendship.

The explanation behind the air piano, however, was met with a rather faint "Ah" from Rei, one that clearly stated that, in his opinion, he should've known better. Once Travis gave his response to such a thing, the bluenette also spoke,

"Yes, Lance-dono is right..."

The reason behind his words trailing off was not that he had finished speaking (well, he had, but still...) but instead the fact that he had caught himself slipping into something of a bad habit, using honorifics in English speech as opposed to English formalities. It was becoming rather taxing, that one imperfection that never seemed to improve no matter how hard one attempted to work on it.

Travis' inquiry as to his identity was met with a pensive expression for a moment as he debated on what was wise to tell and what wasn't. After about thirty seconds had passed, Rei began to speak.

"Well, I'm from Osaka, Japan, originally. My mother owns and operates a pharmaceutical company that used to branch out worldwide, you might have heard of it... anyway, for some reason she wanted to move to America just out of nowhere... so, here I am."

Obviously there were many subjects in his "story" not talked about, namely the illness and the majority of his life in Japan. All in all, one could infer that it was not very good.
