Seeker of Truth

Several days had already passed since the beginning of the school year. The date was now September 6th, it is mid evening and the soft cooling breeze rustled the leaves of the trees in the courtyard of Ravencroft Institute. Various faces roamed the grounds, particularly in the Rotunda Lobby observing the beautiful displays and stands set up by the many school clubs. Students of both past and present are seen bustling through the crowds, all slowly making their way to the Vision Hall. Scores entered the building, scrambling for seats with friends and loved ones alike, the ticketing booth vacant as admission to the event was free. After filling the seats the crowd's loud murmuring slowly died into a quiet buzz as the stage lit up. An attractive woman stepped onto the stage to the sudden roar of applause. The woman smiles and waves before clearing her throat and happily speaking into the microphone at the podium she approached. Her voice echoed throughout the hall as she began her speech. ![]() "Greetings, ni hao, dobry vecer, godaften, buona sera, konbanha, guten abend and bonsoir. Welcome students, parents, benefactors, and staff alike. Some of you may know me, and some of you may not, I am Doctor Manisha Devi, Dean of Ravencroft Institute. Today we gather on these splendid grounds to celebrate the beginning of yet another school year. Some of you are here for the first time, while some of you are returning once again, and yet for a few, this may be the last time we celebrate this splendid occasion together. I wish to share with you my vision of this year with you. Dear students, here at Ravencroft Institute we pride ourselves on the continued celebration of education and knowledge. It is the bettering and advancing of one's mind in a subject which we take very highly and in the coming year we, the faculty of this institution, will dedicate ourselves to the highest of standards which you expect from us. For years we have given the students the latest in educational material, training them to keep up with the world that quickly advances day by day. Have you heard of the Four Pillars of Knowledge? These pillars are a prime example of what we wish to see you as students flourish and build. We wish to guide you to balance these areas of your life, and improve your overall well being as humans. Let this be your first lesson here on this campus. The first pillar is the Pillar of Relationships. This year we are proud to see the faces of many new students, some hailing from the far east, while others may have grown up right here in our fair city of Rockport. Regardless of your origins, we value each and every one of you and we wish to facilitate a happy and healthy community between all of you. As we are a sort of melting pot community we encourage you all to listen to and, most importantly, learn from your peers. The bonds you create in your youth today are the foundation on which you will build your success in the future. The second pillar, the Pillar of Health. The improvement of one's health starts not only by improving one's mental health however, but also their physical health as well. We wish to exercise more than just your mind. You see, Ravencroft is not just a retreat of wisdom and words, but also of heart and body. We participate in many international level sports, among various other physical activities. It is important that our students have the chance to compete with their peers in a healthy and sportsman-like manner on whatever level they feel comfortable. I'm looking forward to hearing good things these coming sports seasons. Let the pride and honor of not only your school, but of yourself carry you to victory. The third pillar is the Pillar of Work. Learning to pace oneself and complete the tasks at hand is a significant part of one's life. Working towards a common goal together with the school, your class or even on an individual level gives you a sense of being and the reward for completing your duties a symbol of your dedication and being. Through the completion of your work, you gain another piece of your life's foundation, upon which you can be given greater work with greater rewards. The chain built from this precident is what spurns humans forward, to better themselves, their loved ones, and their community. Let the work you are given this year be the keystone by which you build the rest of your life upon. Dedicate yourself to proving to not only the world at large but to yourself, that you are capable of great things. And the final pillar, the Pillar of Spirituality. Finding harmony with the world, and with ones own self is a challenge that spans the greater part of a lifetime. Building the confidence to accept yourself and your will to improve your place in this world are something that come with the building of these pillars. Finding balance and peace with these things are what bring your spirit comfort. The joy of friendship, the passion of victory, and the pride of your work, together these three things temper the iron will of the spirit. The irreplaceable, eternal aspect of your being. Together, let us all strive to find such peace with ourselves. These pillars, when fully observed and balanced will allow you to build the home in which you will reside for the rest of your life. Through the various studies, competitions, relationships, turmoils, and adventures you have here with us at Ravencroft Institute, we hope you will find the materials required to construct a beautiful home for yourself. To create for yourself, a metaphorical mansion of which you can be proud, we would be honored that you would call this place your home for the next year. And now, without further ado, let this celebration be the first step to which you begin that journey! Welcome once again, to Ravencroft Institute! Let the festivities begin!" As she finishes the speech, the spectators roars with applause once more. Sharing a warm smile with the crowd, Dean Manisha graciously bows before stepping back from the podium and hastily leaving the stage. As the lights in the auditorium return to their normal settings the crowds have already begun flushing out the doors, many of the staff can be seen directing people to various events. The Rotunda hosting various indoor games including a raffle, with a few food concession stalls as well. Meanwhile, a dance was being held in the gymnasium located near the fields. Anyone who passed by the fields would also notice the caution tape indicating that entry was strictly prohibited as pyrotechnicians worked on the final steps for setting up for the fireworks display later in the evening. The festivities have now begun. ((To participate in the event, please include the tag "(EVENT)" in the title of your post. All posts related to this event must be posted in the Ravencroft Institute Board or Sub-Boards. Thank You and have fun!)) |
