(This is set a few days after the event, prior to Sunny Sundays.)

The bell signalling the end of the day sounded, rousing the bluenette from his sleep on the rooftop. A sleep that had not been pleasant, even in the slightest, due to the many thoughts turning about in his head. Said thoughts were, of course, about the one thing on everyone's mind:

The dead body.

Unlike the rest, he did not have the "privilege" of seeing the dead body. Instead, he'd had to make due to with what little information he could scavenge utilizing news feeds, internet searches, and a few blurred pictures taken by students as they were ushered along. Save one: that one.. that was an up-front image.

Shaking away his groggy feeling, Rei sat up and immediately withdrew his phone, becoming fixated with it as though it was the most important thing in the world. No contacts, nothing. Yet, the web browser and notes applications would certainly be useful, despite his never thinking such in the past.

After a moment or so, the boy placed it back in his pants pocket and began to make his way down the stairs, and through the corridors others either commiserated in or passed through on their way to clubs. Who would be the best person to ask for info on the body? Of course, there were a multitude of options. Firstly, going to the "scene" of the crime, near the athletics fields, though those would likely prove empty since the police would easily clean up the crime scene when done with it, and it would be blocked off until that point.

Next, simply approaching others. However, it simply wasn't in Rei's nature to do that, nor were they obligated to give him information. Takeda might've been arrogant, but at least he had his limits when it came to the realm of personal space, like with Anri's therapy or Alicia's parental issues. Inferring from others info was the best course of action, and so that was what he'd decided upon.

Sighing, the bluenette quickly became lost in his sea of thoughts. As a result, he was liable to bump into another student within the crowded hallways, and be knocked from his own little realm.

Alicia's reading was correct. This year was going to be interesting. Dangerous, but interesting.

Working, waiting, kind of bored now... He wanted to get on with things, use his time to look into the murder if he could. He knew that it had been originally Anri's insistance of her own to pursue this, but something in her fervor drove a spark in himself to light. It was strange, but the whole thing with her - a supposedly-traumatized girl - wanting to find out who left the body...intrigued him, not to mention the strangeness of the case itself. Oh, he had found out an oddity or three, for sure, thanks to another student.

The bell rang, allowing him to go. And much to his teacher's irritation, he HAD brought in his hat and coat, though he wasn't wearing it. That was just acceptable enough, though he knew it was preferred that he leave it in a locker. Well, he couldn't do that today anyway. He'd been left late getting here and had to catch up to time, so to speak, which means cutting out what was convenient. Now, Hakuro Kuroda headed off in a different kind of a hurry. He wanted to investigate the murder, even if it meant stepping on some toes in his usual fashion.

He headed down the stairs and, at a lower floor, swept on his hat and coat in a flourish, though...it felt like he'd hit soething on the way. Huh? What? Whuh oh. Looks like he'd thrown his coat about in someone's face as he put it on. Picture now the black-haired Japanese boy looking somewhat embarassed.

"Sorry about that. I was just sort of in a hurry and...it just happened that way. Guess I shouldn't be in quite that big a hurry."

Chances are, there wouldn't be anything left to look at on the field, but the whole picture of it was in his head. It would've been on his celllphone too, but after Sai had been so panicked about recording its presence, he wasn't sure he wanted to do that himself. Even still, it couldn't hurt...

The bluenette continued forward, not really paying attention to the majority of his senses until he saw a flash of fabric and was hit in the face by some idiot's coat. Why didn't people watch out for such things!? No matter, at least the other male had the decency to apologize...

Rei nodded faintly, and began to think of why the other Japanese boy would be in such a hurry. It could've simply been an acute level of paranoia that caused him to think in such a manner, but... the logical options were that the other boy was in such a needless hurry for: A) The same reason Rei himself was, or B) He had somewhere else important to be such as an appointment or . Waving it off as the second initially, Rei ran his fingers through his hair and decided to make some idle conversation.

Of course, he vaguely recognized the boy as one of those in his homeroom, Hakuro.. something, however, he'd been too fixated with the prospect of cutting his first few classes and formulating a strategy to do so that he had forgotten the last name.

"I see, well. I am Rei Takeda, and I too am in a hurry..."

There were two options presented to him. Either cut right to the chase and ask the odd hat-and-coat wearing boy about the murder by bringing up the subject, or to simply dance around the subject as he often did. In the end, Rei decided the subject was much too important to avoid, and since it would likely make anyone curious, it was a win-win.

"...I take it you've heard about the body? It's an atrocity, yet I'm almost saddened that I was not there to see it. It's as though I've missed out on some great event."

Perhaps that statement could have been worded better? Ah, no matter.

(I apologize if this was not good, I simply did not feel as inspired as I usually do.)

Ding! Oh right... This guy was in his class, same as Leon. Something about Rei seemed oddly familiar, like he wasn't really a people person. He'd gotten that vibe off of Anri too, though obviously the two had different aspects in life. It made him curious, but not enough so to ask about it. Would've been rude, you see.

"...I take it you've heard about the body? It's an atrocity, yet I'm almost saddened that I was not there to see it. It's as though I've missed out on some great event."

"I was there, and I saw it there. And then...I saw it on instant replay. A friend of mine enticed me to help figure it out, and frankly I'd be more than a little worried about this sort of thing happening around here."

He remembered quite clearly, and he had all of the notes taken from Sairento that evening. It was the best way to have a memory-starter without having, you know, actual evidence in hand. Sai hated the fact that he had recorded the thing, but at least everything was in good hands. Hakuro shrugged at his classmate now.

"So, shall we head off then? Time's a'wasting, as they say."

Hakuro's response to the question caused Rei to don a curious expression, it seemed that the other male was looking into the crime as well, which was a plus considering they could share what information they had, as much as Rei would've rather gotten the information and left due to his inherent hatred for interacting with other guys.

To Hakuro's question, Rei nodded and began to elaborate on what he knew. His voice took on a more intelligent tone than the standard apathy, though perhaps there was a hint of arrogance within it as well, one that was simply instinctive due to the information he had, as well as (judging by the internet threads he'd viewed) the fact that he thought he was one of the few to clue into it,

"Yes, let's. Anyway, I believe that this 'murder' was too difficult to carry out. Think about it. At the event, someone would've seen someone else dragging a body to that area, or they would've witnessed people heading towards that area. It couldn't have been planted earlier because someone setting up might have seen it or heard the rattling of chains..."

Rei paused, and let out a faint exhale before adjusting his glasses and asking the other boy a question, one born out of a desire to keep the exchange of information mutual as opposed to entirely one-sided.

"What do you think?"

By thi time, they were already outside by a fair clip and heading towards the field, Hakuro listening to the boy speak in a tone more interested than he had been before. Seemed like he wa one of thoee 'Nothing phases me' kind of people that only changed gears when it was important, like say now. Hakuro scratched the back of his head briefly, because of an actual itch and not a habit.

"Well, that catches you up nicely with where I was on this, actually. The night it happened, I can assure you that it couldn't have possibly been done right there or dragged to there without somebody noticing. It looked altogether too involved and messy to go unseen, which mean it somehow wasn't there until it was."

He stopped for one moment at the edge of the field, trying his best to impersonate Benedict Cumberbatch, as per his role on Sherlock.

"'When you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth.' Which means..."

He moved on to the bleachers in question.

"The means by which the body arrived is impossible, but inevitably the answer, as there wasn't even any blood leading TO it that night. I know. I checked. I thought I just couldn't see well, but there's really just...no other way."

Hakuro wasn't actually trying to be a detective here. It's just that the facts were so closed and narrow that only a ridiculous answer like teleportation or magic could even FIT.

Tory left the classroom as the bell sounded, face buried in his notebook. His hands trembled as he flipped through the pages, the jitters reflecting the swarm of thoughts fluttering through his head. Despite the chaos, he could see the single common subject that connected them all, like a thread weaving in and out of the tangle.

It was the murder at the opening ceremony.

For the past few days, the Internet and the media had flown into a frenzy of activity, talking of nothing but the murder and the aftermath. Tory had paid careful attention to every bit of information, clipping articles from the newspapers and scribbling hurried notes as he listened to the news. When the news failed, he delved into the Internet for leads, even going so far as to trawl /b/ for a picture of the crime scene.

Tory's fingers lingered at his pocket. In his cellphone was the picture of the crime scene, a reward for his diligence. He paused for a moment by the stairs, and edging away from the crowd, took his phone out for a look.

Yup, he noted, that looks pretty painful.

Tory turned the phone off and sighed. He had so many pieces-- the time, the place, the victim, the cause-- but he couldn’t put them together. There were too many gaps, too many unknowns, and no logical links between any of them.

Tory grumbled to himself, one hand tangling itself in his red hair. It was like a missing tooth; an uncomfortable hollowness where there was once something important. Only in this case, it was never there. A couple of girls walked by, whispering as they passed him, yet Tory couldn't bring himself to care.

Suddenly, the hall felt stifling despite its breadth. Tory turned on his heel and headed for the nearest downward stairs, planning on checking out the crime scene. He flipped through his notebook for the map of the school, following the path to the athletic field. There was probably nothing left of the corpse by now, but maybe there would be something else.

The afternoon sun was bright as he stepped out, and he lifted his hand to shade his eyes from the glare. In the distance, the track was a long ribbon of brown bordered by grassy fields. It was as picturesque as a fixture for an exclusive school could ever be.

Two strange figures caught Tory's eyes. Squinting, he saw they were not police. Were there others ahead of him here? Great, more competition, he thought, tearing off towards them at a brisk pace.

As he neared them, he slowed, just enough for him to make out their features. One of them had a familiar head of blue hair.

"Didn't expect to see you here, Rei," Tory said. His gaze lingered on the other person. "Who's your friend?"

Exiting the school and coming to the area in question, the bluenette scanned the well-kept tufts of emerald grass only to find that there was not a speck of blood anywhere, at least from his perspective and present location. Given the fact that he was not able to see exactly where the body had been on the night in question, and the fact that all he had to go on for info besides the boy next to him was a few people from the internet, it certainly complicated things in his perspective.

Let that be a lesson to you, Rei. Never leave any sort of function early, in case something like this happens.

He thought to himself, at about the time that Hakuro began to scratch himself and speak. Of course, such a response simply served to inflate the boy's ego and don an arrogant smirk that stretched across his face in an almost customary Cheshire Cat like fashion.

Approaching the bleachers, the bluenette glanced over the area immediately in front of him once more, taking in Hakuro's words with an unfaltering expression as the other Japanese boy deduced that the key to this crime was not the body, but how it had gotten there in the first place. But, that was an issue. Given the lack of a blood trail, as Hakuro had informed him, and the fact that it was illogical anyone could place the body in such a location without being detected, it seemed either unsolvable or something supernatural.

The latter result was, of course, insane. However, there were only two options and while a crime could indeed be unsolvable, the means by which a body was placed tended to be something crime scene investigators were usually able to discern. Conversely, however, the information Rei had were a few supposedly accurate murder mysteries and a few episodes of crappy American television when he got bored of reading and the internet.

"I see, so what you are telling me is that... the crime itself is irrelevant, because the key to this is how the body was placed here, right?"

All in all, everything that he'd done by that point: the thought processes, the words, and even the perspective he'd used to view the whole thing, all made him feel like some kind of detective. But see, detectives were trained and had science to go on, Rei and the other boy, did not have complex instruments or any sort of training as far as he was aware.

Suddenly, Rei's musings were interrupted by a familiar voice. Turning to face it, the bluenette was greeted by the familiar face of Tory, and such a thing caused him to both curse internally and give thanks, the former because it meant he'd have to give more information and the latter because it meant that it was likely his curiosity would be quenched,

"Nor I, you. This is Hakuro." The bluenette gestured towards the hatted boy as he introduced him, before continuing,

"And I take it you're here for the same reason we are, hm?"

"I see, so what you are telling me is that... the crime itself is irrelevant, because the key to this is how the body was placed here, right?"

"Well, it's still terrible, but...yeah. How they got it there with so many chains and all that blood and gore without anyone noticing and then make it so they DO only at a fireworks display, despite it being a busy night, is the bigger mystery than the murder itself. We find out how it was done and everything else just falls into place."

They could probably get people swearing up and down that the corpse hadn't even been there even a moment before it was, inclluding Sai, but that might be paranoia coloring that one. The fact of the matter was that there were people here, lots of them, at this event. That's probably why the body was put there, but it's pure conjecture to say so. Nevermind why or even who for a moment. Messy body and chains got there, no witnesses. How? It wasn't light-weight. You would need a big sack to contain it all, including blood, but that wouldn't negate all the noise OR the work needed to drag it there, and NONE of the noise or time required to set it up there. It's inconceivable to believe that in all the time and effort required for even someone BIG to do the job that they'd be able to do so and escape detection, and the body just goes unnoticed until the big moment. Just not possible...

"Didn't expect to see you here, Rei. Who's your friend?"

Huh? What? Who? Oh, there was somebody new here, someone that Rei knew.

"Nor I, you. This is Hakuro. And I take it you're here for the same reason we are, hm?"

"This is bound to attract lots of people who want to figure it out, or people who just don't feel safe. They want to know, to have it settled in their minds. They want...information, and they won't get it easily."

But by hook or by crook, we will!

"And I take it you're here for the same reason we are, hm?" Rei and his companion now had their attention on Tory.

"Depends," Tory said. "Were you checking out the crime scene?" His thoughts went to the picture in his phone, and all the blood and chains. How they got there was the question, and from the looks of it, Rei and Hakuro knew just as much as he did. He felt a pang of regret at having left the party so soon: had he stayed, he might have got to see the corpse itself.

"That's true," he said, addressing Hakuro. "It's as if everything was set up just right so that there'd be no trail of evidence. The perfect crime." A smile flitted across his lips at those words. "And if I know my Sherlock Holmes, that just means the solution is all the more elementary."

Hakuro's reaction to his reaction made Rei almost instinctively stretch his smirk to the point of appearing almost insane, due to just how everything at that instant in time was just as ego-inflating as if he were some kind of terrible pop music artist. Regardless, the urge was suppressed and the bluenette ran his fingers through his hair, nodding slightly and adjusting his glasses before hearing Tory's reaction, and nodding.

Then, to the question about the crime scene, the bluenette merely nodded again. It was as Hakuro said, people would be curious, and to quench their thirsts for information they would go to the only place in which they could do so: the area in which they present stood.

"We're certainly not here to wait for, and then watch the track team practice, Tory."

The bluenette's voice held a bit of a deadpan tone as he spoke, one that not only went against how he usually presented himself but how he felt beyond that. It was merely because he felt the redhead had been overly simplistic in asking the question, all anyone that arrived would do is look around momentarily, and then leave.

Finally, as the reference to Sherlock Holmes was made, Rei managed to recompose himself and actually smile, for he too was a fan of Conan Doyle's works, and the mystery genre as a whole. However, said smile soon gave way to apathy once more as he began to compile his thoughts before speaking,

"Yes, but I doubt we're dealing with a Napoleon of Crime, a hypothetical James Moriarty, if you will. I still have my doubts about this crime being humanly possible, but I also don't think it's right to say it's all supernatural either. However, it's not like that makes any sort of difference.

We shall prevail. Also, I didn't know that you watched 'The Prisoner', Hakuro."

And with that, the Cheshire Cat grin came back to his face in full force as he surveyed the field again, and again, looking for even the tiniest trace of scarlet among the jade and emerald patches of grass and the brown of the track, but given the fact he wasn't bending over and looking, or examining each one.... there was nothing, not that it would make any difference if he did the aforementioned things.

Hmmmm... There was alot of wisdom in that statement. Hakuro began to give that a little thought. They could have been overlooking something incredibly obvious that - individually - none of them had surmised. It may have just been that Hakuro wanted it to be supernatural in origin because he wanted to be the one to find and see it for himself, an experience that was singularly unique in life...though he wouldn't want to die that way, obviously. Was that it, though? They were leaping to fantasy because they simply could not FIND a more ordinary way that it could be gotten away with?

"Yes, but I doubt we're dealing with a Napoleon of Crime, a hypothetical James Moriarty, if you will. Hakuro deadpanned for a moment.

"I lived on an island for years with my family, bored out of my mind. It's inevitable that I would hear about, watch, and even fantasize about that show."

Dubbed, of course. He didn't understand english at the time. Hakuro adopted a thoughtful stance for now, thinking out-loud....

"Okay, tell me if this is any more plausible. The only other way that anyone could have done all that without it being too noticeable...would be a group of people who would kill 'im, take him there, set him up while someone cleans up, and then they scatter."

He looked over at them now.

"Well, what do you say? King of the Lab?"

"Hey isn't that the guy who..."

"Yeah my dad works with the police, he says he was taken in for interrogation.

"You mean like a criminal? Think he did it?"

"I dunno. But he was taken in for a reason, right?"

One of the particular things Jhonathan had noticed about gossip was that people didn't even bother to shut up in front of you. Now, throwing the contents of his hot cup of morning coffee at the would have left him considerably more satisfied but it'd leave a sour taste on the long run. Not that his reputation could get any worse.

Though it was only breaktime, minutes turned into hours for him. The rest of the day was no better. His mother had told him that everything would blow over soon, that once they caught the criminal -she assumed they would- his name would be cleared along with all the other kids. What she failed to think of was the fact that until then, he was left to rot in the sun under a thousand dirty stares. So he just had to wait until the morons who let a killer sneak into campus and do an elaborate ritual would stand up from their thumbs and start doing their job. Which could take days, weeks, months or years. And until then he had to wait.

"This won't do."

Fortune would have it, he would skip the next hours of class by the bleachers, looking at the crime scene from behind the scenery with a severe look on his eyes. Fortune would have it, a trio of students would walk by and start contemplating the scene. At first he pinned them as the classic morbid and gossipy students this place had. The blue haired one talked about the death and maiming of a student like it was a parade he just missed. As for the other two, he wasn't sure.

He walked towards them without making a sound, and...

His light brown skin, the grey eyes and messy black hair. It was clear this was a foreigner who had just interrupted. He wore the Ravencroft uniform with disregard for etiquette and it still managed to look proper. He was holding a nearly empty cup of coffee, now cold. He was looking at them like he had found the trio making a bonfire on his lawn.

"I dunno about that," Tory said, responding to Rei's deadpan quip with one of his own. "Watching team track practice might turn out to be more interesting than you think." He knelt, eyes scanning the grass for blood or prints while listening to Hakuro's hypothesis. He had to admit, the idea of a group doing it was more plausible than one lone murderer dragging the chain-wrapped corpse all the way there.

Three to four, no more than that, Tory thought. Any more and they would be too conspicuous. He plucked at the grass, rubbing the severed leaves between his fingers. It gave him something to do other than mull over the crime.

The question was, how could said group have done it unnoticed? There would have to be some sort of distraction in order for their grisly work to go undetected. Something loud and flashy.

And then, like the pieces of a puzzle sliding into place, it clicked for him.

"That's it!" he said, standing up straight, a manic grin on his face. "The criminals must have done their grisly deed during the fireworks show! Everyone would be watching, and the noise could have masked the chains and let them drag or drop it!" By the time he had finished explaining, he was bouncing up and down on the balls of his feet, his exuberance rising to fever pitch. "Now all we need to know is who did it!"

"The Fuzz is already on the job, which means it will never get solved. If you think you have a better shot, be my guests. You don't even have stakes in this."

Those words drenched Tory's glee like a bucket of ice-cold water. He relaxed, and put on an air of cold condescension to hide the anger simmering inside him.

"Yes, actually, I think we do have a better shot at this," Tory said, turning to fix the newcomer with an impassive stare. "And for your information, we do have a stake in this. Unless you think letting a murderer get away is a good thing. And I'm certain you don't... or do you?" This last was punctuated with a cock-eyed look, as if to say "I seriously hope you don't think so".

Rei let out a faint sigh and continued his scanning of the grass, before finally deciding it would be wisest to kneel down and take a closer look. As he did so, he listened to both Tory's response and Hakuro's hypothesis, finding the latter to be... somewhat plausible, though it still caused the bluenette to facepalm.

They just didn't get it, now did they? Well, it was actually a matter of his arrogance not exactly allowing him to accept the idea's plausible nature, and despite his finding it to be a good theory... it simply felt too flawed to be useful. This was a fact he soon voiced by proposing holes in the logic Hakuro and Tory had used.

"I don't think that's possible either. If they were close enough to discover the body when the fireworks went off, then it seems likely that they would see it being planted as well. The fireworks would be loud, but they would only be a temporary source of light and sound, so they would have to stop moving every few seconds.

So either that theory has holes in it or these people are rich with luck."

The sudden voice was enough to make Rei stop his looking and turn around, only to have his eyes scan the somewhat flippant looking brown skinned boy. Said eyes soon became little more than a look of combined disdain and hatred, given both the lack of respect the male possessed, the fact that he was, in fact, a male, and so on.

The bluenette adjusted his glasses, and began to think of a response as Tory gave his own. It was clear that he did not recognize the foreigner, for the only information he had on the questioning done by the police was a few names and some minor rumors, rumors he did not choose to believe out of the holes in such theories.

The notion of them being better than the police hadn't passed through Rei's mind once. He might've been arrogant, but even he had boundaries. After all, he was only there to satisfy his curiosity and gather some information, he didn't want to catch the criminal, as such a person would be extremely dangerous. Sighing, the bluenette ran his fingers through his hair and let his response go, his tone tinged with disdain of the highest calibre,

"While I agree that the police aren't exactly the most competent bunch, I doubt that we've ever once insinuated that we are more competent than they. After all, the police has government funding and forensics, all we have is logic and speculation...

Oh, and Tory? I'm not certain that announcing your intentions to catch a dangerous criminal to the world is the smartest move. Regardless...."
He turned his gaze from Tory to the foreigner, and then let out a sigh before extending a hand,

"Rei Takeda, fourth year. I think we can do this, but... again, we're outclassed, equipment wise."

Each time he spoke of the police, his disdain filled tones became filled to the brim with a combination of reluctance and self-hatred, as though he couldn't stand the idea of someone being better than him. Of course, it was quite obvious that such a thing was the exact truth.
