So, for one great moment, things were looking up for those of us who were interested in this case, becaue an alternate theory on how it was done proved at least that they were able to think outside the box. Aside from his own small group theory, Tory added the idea that it could've been put there while people were watching fireworks. Then...someone had to go piss on the parade. Well, two people, really Rei had his doubts about the kind of luck their culprit(s) would need, but Hakuro knew from personal experience what a little luck can get you in life. Then, there was this new guy...whom people the background were muttering about...that was generally being a nay-sayer. Tory and Rei had their own rebuttals. Hakuro...?

"The Fuzz is already on the job, which means it will never get solved. If you think you have a better shot, be my guests. You don't even have stakes in this."

"Dude-person, whoever you are, there is nothing wrong with a few extra heads in on it, especially when we seem to be on a roll. I've actually done a little good in the past, so why not?"

He looked over at Rei, then.

"I'm still calling it plausible, by the way. It's a simpler answer that we could work on until the facts either bear it out or kill it dead. More likely than magic, anyway."

And...now he was facing the new guy again, with a smirk and a swagger in his tep as he paced around a bit.

"So, if you have no faith in the police, you won't mind talking about what you were doing there and what they said, then. That is why you're so sure of their cluelessnesss, right? Because you saw it firsthand?"

Jhon finished his cup while the bluette gave his counterargument, noticing he wasn't defending either position but stating his own even further. Well, at least he was confident. He had to admit, maybe his entrance was more than impolite but at this point he was certainly well past a good disposition about the topic. Finding people poking around and playing detective out of some sense of justice was-

Exactly what you want to do you big hypocrite.

And maybe that was what irritated him so. Against all pronostic, Hakuro's question didn't bother or come off as nosey. He would've probably asked the same, the reasoning was valid. Besides, he had already wrongly introduced himself as Token Asshole Number 115 so at least he should humor them.

"I was mooching off some food from the cafeteria when a bunch of cops came in and took me and my friend for interrogation without being discrete about it. Appearently, someone overheard us using an idiom with the word Corpse in it and clearly Rockport's Finest decided to grab us because that was some solid proof right there that we were involved. So we went to the station, where the guy in charge there basically told us he knew we didn't do it but would like to hear our story anyway. Which means they have absolutely no idea what even happened. To add insult, that night this place was being guarded by police officers so it happened right under their nose. It's impossible someone would lug a corpse from the outside, dump it here and leave no trace. The only thing they seem to know is that the murder happened in the time window from the start of the gala until the fireworks show and that it had to be someone who was already in the campus. Apart from that, they are recurring to methods that reek of panic: Combing rumors, taking everyone with a story to tell in for interrogation, checking security feeds that are useless because this place ain't a prison and security cameras don't even reach two digits..."

He shrugged, visibly much more relaxed now that they seemed to show genuine concern over the case and tilted his head towards the place where the body was found.

"Either the victim was killed, then chained and dropped, or the killer is pretty damn skilled. Which wouldn't exactly fit a high school student. In this case, we don't even know if it's a serial murderer and the police will do what they always do."

The styrofoam cup was crushed on his hand and he tossed it towards an open trash bin not too far from them. It bounced on the edge...and into the bin. He looked at them again with an air of disgust.

"Wait for the next victim to show up. And hope to find a pattern. Rinse and repeat until they catch the killer."

Tory resisted the urge to roll his eyes as Rei tried to disprove his idea. Even his counter-arguments had holes in them: namely, he didn't seem to take into account how easily distracted people could be. Especially in crowds.

"Yes, well, the only other plausible answer is magic, and I'd rather not stop there," Tory said. "And I'm not doing this to capture the culprit, I'm doing this so that the police will." He looked over his shoulder at Rei, at the same time paying attention to the newcomer's explanation. From the way he phrased it, it seemed the police themselves were chasing shadows and failing to get anywhere.

So much for the "fuzz" being on the case, Tory thought.

"I'm not in the mood for waiting," he said to the stranger, hands on his hips. "I get bored when I have to wait. Especially when it comes to a crazy serial killer. Or group thereof."

Following both the reactions of Hakuro and Tory, Takeda simply nodded. Sure, the most logical explanation was something of an oxymoron. It was both the most logical solution, but also one of the most illogical things in human history: the supernatural. However, given how the process of elimination worked, and Rei's own unwillingness to admit that such a thing could indeed be unlikely, he stuck to his decision on the "culprit".

Running his hands through his hair, the bluenette took in the story the newcomer presented with faint tinges of interest breaking through his apathy. Seeing as how said newcomer was one of those taken in for questioning, then it seemed likely that he would prove to be a useful source of information, correct?

That did not seem to be the case, as the dark skinned boy finished his explanation he showed how pointless the present search was when it came to matters of evidence and police tactics. Adjusting his glasses, the bluenette let out a sigh and moved to speak, only to open his mouth and immediately close it as the foreigner's next bit came out.

If their only hope was to wait for a pattern to emerge... then the present searching, at least for the trio of students, was relatively pointless. This was one occasion in which Rei's pride did not permit him from admitting the truth, if only because it felt somewhat fun to play the foil to Tory.

"I see, well... I can only assume that our best chance is to wait for the next victim and see if that, too... is a pointless search. However, as of now we'd have to wait even if we want to look into this further. What's the point of looking for a criminal if you don't even know the victim?

I've read enough detective fiction to know that it's wise to know both the criminal and the unlucky, because perhaps we can work backwards from that. Of course, given the body's mutilation the police might not be able to discern that for days..."

He adjusted his glasses once more, before looking at the foreigner, his original curiosity soon giving way to that sort of concealed disdain he'd emitted upon his initial appearance,

"Regardless, who are you, exactly? I'm afraid that I'm not aware exactly who was taken in for questioning, I've only skimmed through internet posts about the body, nothing more."

This boy was being an incredible cynic, but it was a possibility as well. It might be that the police didn't know what they were doing, or they did and they sure as hell weren't telling him about it. In either case, Hakuro kind of liked his attitude, although he didn't buy entirely into his theory. Still, that's obviously why they were all here, because they wanted to all learn something from a fresh perspective.

"Well, if you're not satisfied with their work, then do better and see who finds the culprit faster. Tough bet, though. I'm not sure."

Of course, doing this in AID of the police was not wrong either, as Tory said. And no, none of them really wanted to wait. The truth is, they were pulling in people like that because they had to. It sounded like procedure. Did you see something? Let us know. Why did you mention corpses? Is that all? It's a filtering net in case the culprit was stupid enough to give something away. They did it because it still worked, QED. Rei's comment about wait, though... That was gonna rub the new guy the wrong way, though he also said...

"I've read enough detective fiction to know that it's wise to know both the criminal and the unlucky, because perhaps we can work backwards from that. Of course, given the body's mutilation the police might not be able to discern that for days..."

"We can tell alot of things from the victim. Yes, whoever - or how ever many - did this had some skill and would be very sick-minded. But we know something else rather important. He, she, or they...like to showboat. 'Look at me! I made a big messy corpse on campus!' It's kind of like a baby being happy that it crapped its pants. That's a personality to look out for, someone who craves attention, the self-absorbed type."

Good thing Hakuro doesn't know that about you, right Rei?

Jhon's eyes shifted from Hakuro to Reizo, and to Tory. There was a mischievous air around him now, a small smile forming on his lips as he crossed his arms. He had to admit, at least these three seemed to have genuine interest in actually solving the problem. Not to mention, helping would not harm chances the real killer would be caught. And then he wouldn't have to exactly endure shifty looks from his classmates.

He walked to the place between Reizo and Hakuro, patting them both on the shoulder.

"Mhmm...can you smell that? Is it what I think it is? I think I smell teamup time. Is it teamup time? I think it's teamup time."

His cynical nature was still there, but he saw no reason to be unfriendly to them. He looked over at Tory and nodded at him, acknowledging him too.

"I guess we don't lose anything by trying. Besides, it beats doing homework. Can I join your detective club? Just don't call be Watson. Or Robin. Jhon will do."

Tory listened to Rei and Hakuro, jotting down their observations in his notebook. Both of them were consistent with his hypothesis: the fact caused him to swell with pride.

"So our suspect is a show-off," Tory said. "Come to think of it, the chains must have some sort of symbolism behind them. Our suspects wanted everyone to see. He didn't just want to turn our stomachs: what they did to the corpse would have been enough. There's a message here... but what?" He scrutinized the facts over in his head, vaguely noting that the tan boy had gone from cynicism to enthusiasm and draped his arms around Rei's and Hakuro's shoulders. There was something about the way he moved that gave Tory the feeling he was about to spring some mischief.

That was why Jhon's offer to work with them didn't surprise him as much as it should have.

The thought of teaming up had been at the back of Tory's mind throughout the conversation, though he gave little importance to it. Jhon's words brought it to light and forced him to take it seriously. Even if it is kind of comic-book, Tory said. I mean, four geniuses working to solve unsolvable crimes?

Needless to say, he had his doubts. For as long as he could remember, he'd done perfectly fine working by himself. With three very idiosyncratic, independent people at his side, he ran the risk of being crowded out.

"Alright," Tory said at last. "How do you intend to help?" If nothing else, Jhon's answer would help reveal whatever his real motives were.

Rei quite calmly adjusted his glasses as he observed everyone, especially Hakuro given the fact that the hat-wearing boy was the speaker at that moment, and the information he had to contribute was fairly interesting. Obvious, overlooked, and interesting. Yes, the killer was quite obviously into theatrics, but the most annoying part of that was Rei's own overlooking such a thing, even after having stated something similar earlier that day during a conversation with Sora Hikari and Yoshima Nakayama.

"...Indeed, but the real question here is again, laying with the victim. This was quite obviously planned... I simply don't think that a crime of impulse would allow for such theatrics, don't you agree, gentlemen?"

Regardless, the bluenette ran his fingers through his hair and turned the majority of his attention from the hatted boy to Jhon, only to narrow his eyes the instant his shoulder came into contact with one of the Latino boy's hands. Quickly forcing his expression to soften, (admittedly, the stoicism that resulted seemed to be little more than a mask), Rei began to weigh his options. On one hand, he received information and kept his life interesting...

On the other, he was working with three other people, control wasn't an option and considering the fact that they were all men as well... it simply didn't seem that he'd enjoy working with them more than necessary. This was a fact he soon voiced after Tory gave his response,

"Firstly, please don't touch me... Secondly... I'm not 'teaming up' with anyone, I will put forth and take information as needed but please, don't by any means think of me as a member of any form of 'detective club'. After all, I'm certain that looking into murders wouldn't make us the most popular bunch. "

The first part of the bluenette's statement was given in an extremely stoic tone that bordered on monotone, it was quite clear that the bluenette was trying to hold back some irritation as he strode away from Jhon and Hakuro, and made his statements. The next was given in a matter-of-fact if slightly apologetic tone. Surely, the bluenette didn't want to be associated with the three more than what was necessary, and that was was fuelled that section of his speech.

Sighing, he looked back to the three and waited, so he could gauge their reactions.

"So, a methodical and self-absorbed pain in the ass, then. That can't be hard to spot."

I dunno, man. Some people would say that that is Rei Takeda, right there, but then he seems the sort to find killing a plebian thing that's thoroughly below him, perhaps. Well anyway, Jhonny the Latino Maniac here suddenly decided on what should happen next: Jolly Cooperation! He wanted to join up with them to figure stuff out, but he didn't want to be known as the Watson of the group. Hatman smirked and replied...

"Suit yourself, Robin."

"Alright, How do you intend to help us out with this?"

Rei didn't quite approve, though.

"Firstly, please don't touch me... Secondly... I'm not 'teaming up' with anyone, I will put forth and take information as needed but please, don't by any means think of me as a member of any form of 'detective club'. "I didn't get in on this to be popular. I did it because it was interesting...and for great justice."

And by justice, we mean that Anri asked him to. Still, Hakuro was keeping their contact whether or not they were part of a 'team'. That was how it worked.

"In any case, the two things we need are people who fit the profile and...who actually died. Does anyone know? The police surely know that much themselves."

Jhon retracted his hand from the bluette's shoulder and wiped it on the side of Hakuro's coat with a deadpan expression on his face.

"I'm sorry your blueness, won't happen again. Anyhow, like Indiana Jones here said we aren't in it for the rep. Having Jason Vorhees with a chain fetish running around isnt acceptable anywhere except maybe in some parts of Europe."

A beat. He turned to Hakuro.

"It's the hat by the way. It was either Indy or Jacko."

The evening was proving quite interesting, though it was close to becoming night time with the sun setting. The track team was running and chanting some army song in the distance. Really, sometimes forgetting about the murder would have been permissible. People seemed to just want to carry on with their lives. However, for him it was more of a personal matter. Selfish, but it was a reason.

"By the way if we need an HQ we are most definitely gonna need an outpost outside school. I'd offer my place but Loro and Horatio don't like crowded rooms."

Tory watched as Jhon made a fool of himself. Despite his misgivings, his lips twitched upwards in a smirk. His antics were amusing, the way circus clowns were amusing. Rei, on the other hand, was more direct in his distaste, shrugging off the hand on his shoulder.

"Popularity is overrated," Tory said. "Now knowledge... that's a prize."

The mention of a "hideout" caught Tory's attention just as he was turning to watch the track team. He listened, noting the two names Jhon said didn't like crowded rooms. Whether they were pets or room mates, they meant Jhon's place was out of the question.

"Alright, so your place is out," Tory said. "Anything else you can contribute?"

After taking in the responses to his initial comment, Rei let out a sigh of irritation, namely at both being called "your blueness" and the fact that by "not being popular" he didn't mean it literally, more as a figure of speech for "if there is a killer and they find out, you guys are totally fucked." Well, maybe not with that exact wording, given how his thought process was and his dialogue was structured, but it was still the same principle.

"...Perhaps you don't quite understand what I mean. Yes, justice is an excellent reason to become involved in such a thing but... think of what happens if the killer shows themselves. Those targets, those with information, will just end up becoming victims..."

Following that section of speech, there was a pause. One in which Rei recomposed himself, and therefore returned to his regular thought process in comparison to the odd, supposedly slightly nervous version he'd been before. Of course, said nervousness was really just him attempting to avoid any sort of partnership with the trio before him... Sighing, the boy began to perform a Cheshire Cat-like grin on instinct, and resumed speaking,

"Of course, perhaps I'm simply letting the anxiety of a murder happening on campus finally get to me. After all, it isn't as though we intend to announce our searching to the world..."

Adjusting his glasses, the bluenette stopped speaking and finally came to the mental conclusion that perhaps working with them, while annoying, was the only way to gather information and therefore, keep life interesting. Of course, it wasn't as though he would admit such a thing out loud, nor would he truly consider himself a part of their little "group", no matter what his previous statement might have implied.

With the prospect of a supposed "HQ" being brought up, and the notion of Jhon's home not being an option, Rei let out a deep exhale, placed his hands in his pockets, and began to ask himself whether or not offering his own home was worth it. The answer was a resounding 'no', of course. Perhaps it wasn't wise to meet at anyone's home anyway, other locations would work just as well, would they not?

"The local library, perhaps? It's not as though I've seen a large amount of people there, and the possibility of someone's parents or dorm mates listening to murder discussions is... unsavoury, in my opinion."

The glare that Hakuro gave Jhon for calling him Indy was not because he didn't get out, but because that joke belonged in a museum. It's worse when you have to explain the joke, but somehow Hakuro knew that this boy at least MEANT well. Dealing with our boy Jhon here was going to be a task, no doubt. About then, Rei chose tp speak up with clarifications about his popularity thing. Hakuro had thought that he meant that people would find them creepy and wrong for doing these things. In any case...

"...Perhaps you don't quite understand what I mean. Yes, justice is an excellent reason to become involved in such a thing but... think of what happens if the killer shows themselves. Those targets, those with information, will just end up becoming victims..."

"That is possible, but not something that you can predict happening, unless you think we're all fools here."

"Of course, perhaps I'm simply letting the anxiety of a murder happening on campus finally get to me. After all, it isn't as though we intend to announce our searching to the world..."

"Exactly. It's just that certain people can't leave well enough alone and, if they're smart, they don't let the wrong people know of the fact. Simple and easy."

About here and now, the other three began to go on about an HQ. The idea of having a single place where everybody meets and 'the wrong people' can look into sounded like a bad idea to Hakuro. Because if any sort of savvy bad guy wanted to find out who was on the trail when nobody's talking, they would watch whoever's looking a bit ummm...out of place, somehow, or those who who are heading to a place for some reason regularly without much of a reason.

"The local library, perhaps? It's not as though I've seen a large amount of people there, and the possibility of someone's parents or dorm mates listening to murder discussions is... unsavoury, in my opinion."

"The idea that any person can walk in and overhear something in a public place is even worse, and gathering at one location every time seems like an invitation for trouble. I don't think one central location is a good plan, nor do we need one. If we choose any sort of place, we should be able to trust the people there, people who won't freak or disapprove OR be our killer or killers. It's a difficult decision, but the only way to keep attention off of us reliably."

Truth be told Jhon felt like he was watching that one anime with the guy with a magic eye and a notebook that killed people. You know the one. So many plans, so many flaws being pointed out, it was so complicated that his mouth was hanging open a bit, eyes in focused and yet utterly clueless observation.

This looked so much easier on tv.

He wasn't gonna fool himself: On the brains department he was clearly outclassed. Not only the hat guy, as much he disliked admitting it the guy with Final Fantasy hair was at least not displaying everything he was thinking of. He knew a liar when he saw one. The third guy seemed more relatable but that didn't help matters. He was trying to do something, if anything, to help this go though. He had already proposed the idea. He couldn't go back on his word.

And he wanted the murderer locked up.

Yet, on gambits and detective work he was no match for them. He was completely out of his natural element.

Out of his element.

My natural habitat.

"...Ok, hear me out on this one. Public places are easy to get into, and gathering somewhere in schedule makes us trackable right? So since this is the 21st century and all...how about the Internet? None of us needs to leave home, we leave no behavior pattern where most people would look at and the internet is a BIG place full of anonymous people. There are countless ways to set up private chats, use proxies, and relocate at the slightest sign of trouble. It's win-win. And in that place I can be much more useful."

He frowned at his last words.

"As in, I know my way around there. And I'm pretty sure you guys know how to use at least a desktop. So you know...we need to lurk moar."

Tory had been following the track and field team for the past few minutes, tapping his pen against the open notebook in his hand. For the past few minutes, he had been noting the little quirks in the runners' gaits for the fun of it, and it was only with some reluctance that he abandoned this pursuit to follow the conversation behind him. As he turned around, he noticed Jhon's jaw was hanging open and his eyes had a confused look in them.

"Hey," Tory said, waving a hand at Jhon. "Earth to Jhon." He wasn't sure at what point he got lost, but he hoped it wasn't a sign that they'd-- no, not they, he-- he'd joined a team with an idiot.

Of course, that was all before said idiot proposed that they use the Internet to meet with each other-- a sensible idea that had Tory wondering if he'd misjudged the newcomer. The idea almost seemed grotesque: as far as Tory knew, he was never wrong. But what if he was?

"Fair enough," Tory said, when everyone else had finished talking. He dug into his pocket and produced his cellphone. "I think using our phones as well might help even more... though I'm certain that's an obvious thing to say."
