Somewhere, an insomniac boy was reminded by his alarm clock that it was time to go to school. With a faint sigh, the student ran his fingers through his hair, closed his laptop, and in one swift motion threw on his lab coat, calmly examined himself in the mirror, and left both his room and then the house. ---------------LATER----------- Somewhere along the way, Shu Mikami had purchased himself a coffee, one he drank from on his way to school to force himself fully awake, as if to negate his previous zombified insomniac state. Arriving at school at last, the boy's meek posture only seemed to increase when he saw the crowds of students in the courtyard. To negate both the noise of the people around him, and to provide some sort of false comfort, the boy was quick to reach into one of his pockets and produce his phone. Letting out a faint sigh, the scientist took his final gulps of drink and proceeded onto the school's grounds. It wasn't long before he pressed play on his phone, returned it to his pocket, and put the earphones in. It was only then that he, now fully awake in comparison to his still half-hazy state, recalled the time he'd seen on his phone. Thirty minutes faster than what he'd seen on both the laptop screen and the alarm clock, therefore... he was early, TOO early. With a second sigh of irritation, the meek boy strode forward, quickly adjusting the open lab coat he wore, and then the school uniform below. As the faster section of "A Day In The Life" came through the headphones, Shu meekly glanced around at the crowds, as if everyone would rush him and begin to simultaneously beat him. However, no such thing occurred. Maybe that meant no one knew he, much like Travis and some other people, had been taken in for questioning? Regardless, he continued forward, towards the doors, with great nervousness about him. Hopefully no one would approach him. But such a hope was one that could easily be destroyed, like many other things. |

Yoshima spotted a man in a labcoat as he was walking to school, since he was in the school grounds he figured he'd say hello like a polite student. "Good morning Sen-" He stopped for a second... That was not a teacher,It was a meek student who was also on his way to school, they locked stares, awkwardly. The wind whistled by and not another sound was made. "D-Dude, I thought you were a teacher... Sorry," Yoshima apologised with a bow. He scratched the back of his head as if looking for something to say, that guy was quite a character, he completely stood out in that lab coat. "I don't remember seeing you around these parts, the name's Yoshima Nakayama. Aren't you violating the uniform code by wearing a lab coat to school?" He paused for a second, what a dumb thing to ask to someone when you just met them. (Sorry, post too short, I dunno how to make posts longer). |

Shu simply continued forward, until a voice cut through the isolation he'd created for himself using music. The boy, one that had referred to him as "sensei", was quickly met with a stare that conveyed a sort of awkward thanks, as a blush of embarrassment spread throughout the scientist's face. The student adjusted his glasses to get a better view of the person that had made such a mistake, and judging by the facial features and the "sensei" bit, it could be inferred that he was Japanese as well. Shu moved to speak after the boy corrected himself, but it took a moment to build up the appropriate courage to talk. "...I-It's f-f-f-fine..." His voice clearly conveyed the same level of timidity that everything else about him did. That was to say his posture, expression, and how he glanced downwards, as if suddenly interested in his shoes. The boy adjusted his lab coat, and waited to see if the conversation, one as awkward as the two people involved, would continue. And it did. With the other's introduction as Yoshima, and the uniform violation bit, Shu gently shook his head and ran his fingers through his hair, removing his headphones to at the very least be reasonably polite despite the fact that it only made him feel more awkward. "...Y-You can g-g-get permission if you h-have a good enough r-r-reason and the customization is app-pp-ppropriate... I'm S-Shu Mikami, by the way..." He gave a halfhearted bow, as he'd often been made to do back in Japan. One could clearly see by his posture that the lab-coat wearing boy was not exactly the most graceful individual, if they hadn't already noticed that from his movements or speech patterns. |

Shu explained to Yoshima how he was able to come to school while wearing a lab coat while stuttering heavily. "Dude, you OK? You seem kinda sick," he asked. (...) "I see... Wait, so you mentioned that if you have a good reason they'll let you wear other clothes, why do you need to wear the labcoat?" Yoshima asked without wanting to sound too intrusive, but before he could obtain his answer the first bell rang and completely threw him off-subject. "Man, we're kinda early, huh? What year/class you from? You look like a freshman, haha, no offense." They made small talk as they walked to their respective classrooms, even though Shu was kind of a weirdo that only made him all the more interesting for Yoshima, who loves to observate different types of people and Shu was certainly... 'Different', that motivated Yoshima to go the extra mile to try and talk to him, even if it meant to ask silly questions like "How old are you?" or "Where're you from?" (Short post is short, I'm sorry.) |

To the question of his being sick, Shu moved his mouth to respond but instead, as if to answer Yoshima's question, quickly moved his hand to cover his mouth, for he sneezed. Obviously, such a thing would look a little out of place, given the weather and lack of pollen in the air. The student soon adjusted his glasses, which had slid slightly down his nose mid-sneeze to the point where they teetered on the edge (as they so often did), and responded. "I-I h-h-have a bit of a c-cold... and I g-g-get sick a l-lot... but I don't have any, any-- t-t-thing serious..." Following Yoshima's question about why he chose a lab coat instead of anything else, Shu simply gave the boy a confused look as if to say "Why wouldn't I?" Of course, said expression soon dissolved into nervousness as he gave his response, adjusting his coat every few seconds as he did so as though trying to rid himself of his nervousness through kinetic motion, "...I-I... only have the o-o-one c-c-coat and... it's pretty f-f-fitting, don't you ag-agree?" When the bell came, the scientist seemed entirely unfazed by its appearance, instead focusing the majority of his attention on his conversation with Yoshima. Perhaps it was that sort of... "airy concentration" that made him so eccentric. Of course, if that was the case it would be in contest with many other factors. Following Yoshima's next question, the student did not reply verbally and instead held up three pale fingers as a means of given an unstuttering answer. It was because Shu had been through conversations with people that couldn't stand his stuttering before, and even the nicest of individuals seemed to get slightly irate with him after prolonged periods of time. "I uhm... supp-pp-ppose we should go to c-class now, huh?" He muttered, discarding of the empty coffee cup with a slight, arcing hand gesture. It was soon quickly forgotten as the student made his way towards the doors, trying to summon up SOME confidence from deep down but finding his well had run dry, so to speak. "...So... uhm... what p-part of Japan are you f-f-from... I used to live near T-Tokyo's Akihabara d-d-district..." |

"...I-I... only have the o-o-one c-c-coat and... it's pretty f-f-fitting, don't you ag-agree?" "Totally, man. You look like one of them mad scientists!" Yoshima agreed with a thumbs up. They made small talk until the bell rang, since it was only the first bell they still had some time to kill before going to class. "...So... uhm... what p-part of Japan are you f-f-from... I used to live near T-Tokyo's Akihabara d-d-district..." "I used to live a bit far from Tokyo, a city called Nikawa, but since my dad is a very important person we lived in different countries in the world, I can speak 7 languages, you know?" Yoshima bragged, "I always wanted to go to Akihabara though, because I didn't have many friends when I was little I resorted to playing videogames to spend the time, I'm sure if I went to your hometown I'd find some real gems, do you like videogames? You seem like the kind of person who'd play that Pokaymon and collect everyone of them to go over their data, haha." |

To Yoshima's agreement about the coat being fitting, the scientist simply smiled and straightened his coat. The idea of otherwise mad science had always been interesting, and given his obsession with science as a whole, and the occasional explosions he'd created... well, let's just say Shu had learned to take such a thing as a compliment, while others may not have been so kind. Adjusting his glasses and then placing his hands in his pockets to keep them relatively warm, the scientist waited for, then took in Yoshima's self description. Of course, the expressions on Shu's pale face changed every few seconds, from meekness to awe when the other Japanese boy said he could speak seven languages, then from awe to a simple smile when the other spoke of video games. At least there was something else in common besides nationality! "W-Well... I d-d-don't play it for the d-data, I play video games b-b-because they're... n-neat, I guess? Anyw-w-w -way... s-seven languages!? That's pretty c-cool... I c-c-can only speak Japanese and En-English..." Yet, it was quite clear that Shu had a very good teacher, given the fact that he did not speak "Engrish" as some other newly taught Japanese people did. Of course, it wasn't just the quality of the teachings but how long he'd been speaking... four years... that certainly didn't feel like a long time anymore, did it? Regardless... "H-How long have you been in A-America? I've b-been here for about f-f-four years n-now..." |

"I got here on the last day of summer, talk about bummer huh? Barely got to my new home and already had school on the next day," he replied, "but I guess going to school is better than staying at home, there's nobody there during the day and also no air conditioner, it's like hell on earth," he joked, trying to get a laugh out of the seemingly shy guy. "So what games do you like? I'm personally a fan of the world acclaimed RPG, Perphony 4, they even released a fighting game of it called 'Perphony 4 Arena', Kyosuke and I played it at the arcade... You probably don't know Kyosuke, sorry, hehe," he said as he scratched the back of his head. The second bell rang, announcing that classes would start really soon. "Ah dude, it's time, hurry up and tell me what your favorite game is so I can run!" He said in a sort of worried tone, running in place, it was very important to know Shu's favorite game, because that's how Yoshima usually made friends when he went to a new country, it's usually a good strategy because you can easily find people with the same interests. |

Yoshima's initial response failed in gaining the intended reaction from Shu, who simply nodded in a sort of understanding manner despite almost always feeling ice cold without at least his coat and two shirts on. However, it wasn't as if the scientist had never experienced being hot, it wasn't as though he lived in the arctic or was some kind of crazy Batman villain! No, not at all! "I d-d-don't know.... I've lived with my mother... s-she gets n-n-nosebleeds from the AC a-and I'm p-pretty sure she's some k-kind of wicked deity." It was an attempt at being humorous, and it was accentuated by the straight face the scientist tried to hold when he gave it. Deep down, it was the truth but... Shu still couldn't help but laugh after a moment or so. Adjusting his glasses, he soon regained his composure and let out a faint sigh, before giving his response to the next bit that came from Yoshima's mouth after the bell had gone off. "T-Tough choice.... Metal Gear Solid 3 or D-Dark Souls, they're both p-p-pretty good games. Oh, and I've p-played 'Perphony 4 Arena', that's m-m-made by Arc System Works, r-right? I love their stuff!" There was a bit more confidence in the scientist's tone when discussing video games, likely because it was something he found it easy to talk about with other people, kind of like anime and manga. However, even such a confidence did not prevent him from ceasing the typical stuttering. The thought of having a semi-reasonable friend (unlike Alex, who was, granted, cool but f*cking crazy), who also shared his interests was... interesting, and it was certainly something that brought a smile to Shu's face as the thought crossed his mind, and he made his way to class with a faint wave to Yoshima. (I tried to continue this thread by advancing time to after school, but I couldn't think of how to start that section of this post! Exeunt, Social Link Go) |
