As Lysander watched his painting come together, he smiled. So far, it was turning out quite well. He was having a bit of difficulty mixing the right shade to match Elijah's eyes, though. He smiled slightly as Eli spoke, pausing slightly when Elijah finished painting.

"I bet being a barista is a lot of hard work. Angry customer, complicated orders, and people demanding fancy latte art. As for the whole 'paying to be here' thing, no worries. I'm not going to ask if you don't wanna tell. Unlike some people in this school, I respect privacy. Of course, I tend to speak about things that shouldn't be spoken about in public. Hell, I've even tried to convince my old man to get a tattoo. Of course, he said no. Said it would be a 'bad image to give the public'. But, oh well. I've already got a tattoo of my own. Thinking of getting more. Maybe a piercing or two as well." he replied, twirling the paintbrush in his hand.

With a small smile in the brunette's direction, Lysander resumed painting, chuckling slightly at the deer in headlights look Elijah was now sporting. Aw, that was too cute.

"Easy there, Eli. The wide-eyes thing may be cute, but not exactly what I'm going for in this painting. Relax, okay?" he said.

Elijah struggled against the urge to nod as the boy described the difficulties of working at a coffee shop. "Well the Latte art is the easier part. Some customers can be a bit of a handful, but other than that i haven't had too much difficulty. So no complaints on my end for now." He said with a subtle laugh clinging to the end of his sentence. Although the work wasn't exactly what he wanted to do, he liked the feeling of independence that came with being able to support oneself with a job.

It seemed Lys was far more observant than Eli would have thought. He should have figured an artist could pick up on subtle changes, especially when they are drawing their subject. Eli wasn't sure how to react; apologize maybe? Or perhaps just act like it never happened. Out of embarrassment alone, he chose the latter.

He looked downward for but a moment before returning to his previous position as he acknowledged his need to relax. His back was beginning to hurt though, a still feeling was just barely beginning to show itself.

Lysander chuckled slightly, checking the Elijah on the canvas against the one currently sitting in front of him. So far, it looked pretty good. Setting down the paintbrush for a moment, he glanced at the brunette once more, paying attention to a few details.

"Eli, you can take a break. My hand's cramping up a little bit. Move around, stretch if you want. My hand should be alright in a couple of minutes." he said, smiling. He stretched slightly, looking over the painting. It turned out quite well, and he had most of the major parts of Elijah down. He yawned slightly, grumbling.

"Ugh, I need coffee..." he grumbled.

Eli was already on his feet once he heard the word break. He desperately wanted to stretch, specifically his back. He sat in a chair with a back, using it as leverage to twist his torso. He heard it crack a few times, which was quite relieving, despite the sound seemed to express otherwise.

He turned to Lys, who said something about needing coffee. "If you want, afterwards we can go to the coffee shop." he said casually, hoping it didn't sound like he was asking him out, despite he wanted to. "That's if you want, of course, you may be busy." Eli sounded unsure, unsure of his circumstances, and unsure of even himself.

Lysander was attractive, this was usually something that would cause him to avoid a boy. It was the easiest way to repress his desires in his hometown. He was somewhat afraid for some reason. He couldn't help but second guess himself. Words like "disgusting" and "abomination" rung in his ears with a harsh tone, the voice of his father.

Lysander chuckled slightly at how quick Eli was to get to his feet. While the brunette cracked his back, the blonde worked on loosening the cramp in his wrist. He heard Eli suggest going for coffee once they were done here. Well well, looks like the blonde's natural charm was working it's magic already.

"I'd love to grab some coffee with you, Eli. I don't have anything planned for after this, so no worries." he replied.

Lysander observed Elijah for a moment. Eli sounded so...unsure. What was this boy so worried about?

"Eli, you okay? You don't sound so sure of yourself." the blonde pointed out.

A gentle curve for a smile formed on Eli's lips in response to the accepted invitation. He was glad that his idea would work out. He wondered what Lys thought of him. He seemed honest enough, and he hasn't said anything that would express any distaste towards him. He wasn't sure why, but he couldn't help but feel a strong attraction towards Lys. He has felt attracted to plenty of boys, but something was different this time. He couldn't quite put his finger on it.

It seemed that Lys was better at reading emotions than Eli would have first assumed. He was so blunt with his question, Eli was taken aback for a moment. "Yeah, I'm alright." He said feeling a little embarrassed.

Eli glanced upwards towards Lys' eyes. He forced himself not to glance to long into those zircon gemstones, it was just long enough for a smile of reassurance.

Lysander chuckled slightly when Eli looked a bit embarrassed.

"Sorry, I have a bad habit of saying what comes into my head the second it comes into my head." he said, scratching the back of his head.

With that said, the blonde picked up his paintbrush once more, looking at the brunette.

"So, ready to continue? Faster I finish this, the sooner we can go get coffee." he added, smiling at Eli.

Before Lys returned to painting, he did a quick check of the painting he was working on. It just needed a few details, and then it would be pretty much done.

"No worries," Eli said, shrugging off his embarrassment by reassuring Lys' that it was alright, for he hadn't really done anything wrong. His comments seemed to be more out of concern than anything else, so Eli couldn't bring himself to blame the boy for his discomfort; It wasn't the boy's fault he wasn't content with himself.

Lys' suggested that they finished soon so they can can go get coffee soon after. Eli sat down on the stool and replicated the pose from before, but that wasn't before he caught a glimpse of the painting. He was doing a really good job with the piece. "That looks really nice," Elijah said with a gentle smile as he watched the boy as he resumed his painting.

Lysander smiled slightly as he resumed painting, double-checking to make sure he got all the tiny details. His brush was practically flying across the canvas at this point. He wanted to finish it quickly, but he wanted to make sure it was done well. The blonde smiled when Eli complimented the painting.

"Of course it looks really nice. I have a rather handsome model to work with." he said, smiling at the brunette before he resumed his work.

A stroke here, a dab of paint here, fix that spot there, adjust the darkness in the shadow here...looking good, looking good. Slowing down slightly, he paused, observing the painting. Hmm...it needed something...Something...more. he looked contemplative for a moment, tapping the wooden edge of the brush against his chin.

"Something's...missing." he muttered.

Elijah watched the boy move his brush at a fairly rapid pace, seemingly without a drop in accuracy. Eli looked forward, suddenly not feeling as nervous as before. Elijah grinned as his appearance was complimented, something he wasn't quite used to.

He looked at Lys for a moment, mildly curious about who this boy is, where did he come from; and more importantly, what does he see in Eli. He typically avoided the company of men out of the fear of being attracted to them. He had a few close friends that he couldn't quite see that way, but besides that he struggled at meeting people because of it.

The boy seemed to think something was wrong with the piece, like something was missing. Eli looked at the piece before sitting down and didn't really notice anything specific. He couldn't really imagine what would be the matter. He wanted to get up, but thought moving may not be a good choice either. He decided it was best to ask, "Would you like me to take a look for you?"

Lysander looked up once Eli spoke, contemplating the brunettes words. Usually, the blonde didn't let his subjects see the artwork until it was done. But, maybe a second set of eyes might be a bit helpful.

"Fine by me. Take a look and tell me if you think anything's missing." he replied, moving back a bit from the easel and waving Elijah over with his free hand. His other hand resumed twirling the paintbrush, making sure not to get any leftover paint on his incomplete work of art before him or himself.

The work before him was pretty well done. On the canvas before him sat an identical likeness of Elijah. What made the painting interesting, though, was where it was set. Elijah was seated on a bench in what appeared to be a park at night, the bench made of a dark gray stone. In front of Elijah was a small pond, and reflected in the pond was Elijah's own reflection. There was a difference between the Elijah on the bench and the Elijah in the water, though. In the water, Eli was not smiling, but appeared to be about to cry.

"I'm not entirely sure if I've gotten the emotion I wanted from this piece...what do you think, Eli?" he asked.

Eli got up with less haste than before as he went to help critique Lys' piece. He was never much for offering advice, especially if the person could become offended by what suggestion he propounded. Luckily Lys seemed laid back enough that such a thing shouldn't be a problem.

Eli stood behind Lys, examining the piece over his shoulder. It was a marvelous piece, practically flawless at a first glance; but as he said, something was missing. But Eli struggled to pinpoint just what it may be. So instead of looking at the image from the top down, he decided viewing it from the bottom up. His eyes carefully examined each part of the body, their position, and it's effect on the pose. It seems that everything was in order.

Lys mentioned a lack of facial expression, Elijah quickly examined the face in depth. "I personally think the piece is very well done. Perhaps this is just a case of never being content with one's own piece, no?" He bore a subtle smile, trying to lighten the boy's state of being.

Lys sighed a bit, pausing the paintbrush mid-twirl as he listened to Eli. Was it just the blonde not being content with his own work? No...he hadn't had this problem before. Something about this piece...it just wasn't right. Something missing in the face of either the Eli on the bench or the Eli in the water. Or both.

"Thanks for the advice, Eli, but I don't think that's it. There's just...I dunno, it feels like something's off. Something I should've caught already. Well, this IS a portrait of you after all. Tell me...do you think it's good?" he replied.

He raked his gaze of both the painting and the real Eli that stood beside him. What was missing? He had never had this kind of problem with a painting before. Why did he feel something wasn't right about this one in particular? And why did it bother him so much?

Lys' asked for Eli's opinion, clearly unsure as too what was bothering him. Elijah glanced through the piece; composition, proportions, lighting, coloration. It all looked right to him. he drew his eyes away from the shot until he noticed something was wrong as well. He looked directly at the face, it was a perfect mirror of his own, but something was wrong. He looked at the eyes, it seemed he found the culprit.

"It's a lovely piece, I think I found what the problem is." he said as he pointed towards the face, "If you look at the reflecting light, the left eye has the white dots on the wrong side of the eye, it should match the one on the right." he said, saying it as gently as he could, his voice had an almost encouraging undertone to it.

He couldn't help but admit that he felt relived to help out Lys. The painting was very beautiful, he almost felt like the man in the painting was better looking than he.

The left eye? Lysander took a close look and smacked his face into the easel for his stupidity. How did he not notice that?!

"Eli, you beautiful, beautiful man, I could kiss you right now! I never would have noticed that. Honestly, I think it's because I'm exhausted...or maybe a lack of coffee. Or both." he replied, smiling at the brunette.

Within a few seconds, the small error was fixed, and Lysander seemed content. He smiled, setting the brush down and wiping some splattered paint off his hands on a nearby cloth. Looking it over once more, the blonde smiled. It was perfect, and it was definitely well done.

"You like it, Eli? This might be one of my best works yet using paint and canvas." he said. The blonde stretched a bit, cracking his back with a low groan. Damn, that felt good...

"Now...how about that coffee?" he asked, smiling.
