◊Fancy a crusade... of Smooth-Jazz?◊

She inhaled and then exhaled the crisp, autumn breeze that rolled unto her from across the lake. This was Angela Lance's idea of "relaxation", a nice patch of grass, a cool fall's wind, and beautiful scenery right before her eyes. It wasn't too early in the morning, the sun had risen not too long ago, but it's presence in the sky would still be beautiful and mighty, no matter where it was floating. She snuggled her form into the grass underneath her a little deeper; she was in Nirvana, for the sun was keeping her from freezing amidst the breeze, shoving her into a beautiful purgatory of warmth. She would've maybe taken a nap here had she not remembered her original purpose for being here; to catch some grub. Today; she was going on a walk around town to round up some food, a walk that had started in the early morning hours. Already did she possess around half-a-dozen apples she snatched from a tree and she managed to find a few rather tasty-looking peaches; but fruit alone wouldn't sate her hunger, she needed something meaty to eat. She sat upright and observed her current surroundings; she needed a long, slender, and flexible stick to serve as a pole and she could already supply her own line, so there was no issue there. Her gaze settled upon a small tree, one with an awkward branch protruding out from amongst the leaves. She slowly and reluctantly got up onto her feet, her body not wanting to abandon the indent she had made amongst the grass' blades, and started towards the tree. She seized the unique limb by it's base and gave it a light shake, seeing how much it bent from her minor disturbance. After observing the branch for a couple more minutes, she took the base and both hands, counted to three, and made a grand attempt to pull the branch off of the tree's trunk. She fell backwards onto her rear, her prize still grasped tightly in her hands. She breathed a sigh of relief as she returned to her feet; that could've ended more disastrously then it actually did. She returned to her bed of folded grass and reached into her worn-out, leather satchel and drew a small spool of fishing wire. After a couple of failed attempts at attempting to tie an amateur knot to the end of the make-shift fishing rod, Angie finally managed to securely fasten her line to the branch. Holding the branch between her knees, she reached into her purse once more, this time drawing a fishing hook, which she promptly tied to the end of her line. She was almost ready, all that was left was to find some bait. This prayer was answered by a passing grasshopper, a grasshopper which she quickly snatched up and skewered through the thorax. Now she was in business. She looked out on to the lake's surface, taking in one last moment of extreme beauty before starting the task of catching today's meal. She picked up her bag, set herself up at the lake's edge, cast her line, and began the long wait. > Much Later < How long had she been sitting here, frozen by patience? 35 minutes, or was it more like 50? To the average passer-by, she must've looked rather weird, sitting by the edge of the lake, the only movement visible being the mechanical inflation and deflation of her chest. To her, this was an honest day's work; she just had to wait for the fish to come biting and then she'd be able to have a nice meal tonight. She must've zoned out at this point, for she hadn't noticed the odd passerby who had decided to approach her whilst she remained locked in place, staring brainlessly at the lake like a zombie. |
