The Paragon of Sanity

Another day, another set of classes. Ho hum. If Maxina found any joy in the repetition of the day, it sure didn't show. Classes had ended for the day, but Maxina'd found himself running up and down stairs constantly on errands for some teacher, individual of notable authority or whatever. It was strange, though... "I don't recall...being a guinea pig...haah, these stairs, though..." As it turned out, running up and down several flights of stairs numerous times was not conducive to much of anything. Being in a school after-hours was already bullshit in his eyes, regardless of what those Japanese cartoons said; this just happened to be a slap in the face. Maxina missed his hat. Thankfully, he was done with all the running around, so- "...Oh, FUCK!" Yep, a cursory search of his pockets confirmed that Maxina's hat was not on his person. He probably left it in his locker. Normally, this wouldn't have been a problem, but...Maxina was a senior, so his locker was all the way up on the fourth floor; he was currently on the base level. Great. Awesome. Now he had to go up several flights of stairs AGAIN. Welp, might as well get started, he supposed, and Maxina marched up the first flight of stairs- "...?" And then, near the top of the very first flight, Maxina stumbled on the steps- "Geh-!" And tumbled right back down to the bottom, sliding a bit as he hit the floor and landed into a crumpled heap. Great, awesome. Now he hurt all over. Hopefully, no one saw that... |

Maxina snapped to attention staring at the ceiling. Once everything came into focus, he took stock of what had just happened. He went up the stairs, then...well, the pounding headache and the soreness of his person in general meant he'd probably fallen. Great, awesome. He was gonna be feeling that one for a while. At least it didn't feel like any teeth had been knocked - that would've been an insult to the injury. "Enh...?" Maxina finally focused on the one thing that hadn't been there when he fell - A hand, obstensibly attached to a girl, extended toward him. Was she helping him? She didn't strike him as the kind of person who helped others. But...well, it would be rude to say no, and Maxina was in too much pain and shame to say no anyway. He took her hand and stood up. "Th...thanks," He said, having not really let go of her hand. |

It took the girl breaking their grasp for Maxina to realize he'd still been holding on - Evidently that fall did more damage than he thought. Aaaaand then she stepped away. Wow, it wasn't like he was dangerous or anything. Why did people always do that? It wasn't like he was a dog or something. Dogs were dangerous and would maul you, even if you a kid. Especially if you were a kid. ...Wait, what was he on about? At any rate, the girl shoved some paper into his hands upon which something was written, presumably by her hand. Oh, so she was a good person, okay, that explains it...Wait a minute, this explained nothing! Why did she say this through a paper and not her voice? Why did she draw away? What the hell was she gripping with a crushing intent in her hand? "Why a...paper...?" He said, half-heartedly waving it in the air. |

"Hmm?" For some reason, the girl looked like she was trying to pop a blood vessel, or an aneurysm. She scribbled something down again and this time practically shoved the paper into Maxina's hands. "Woah, hey-" Maxina read over the note; so, she was mute? Also really upset, judging from the all-caps...Maxina folded up the note. "Alright, alright, you've made your point! Calm down, please...yeesh," Maxina sighed. This girl was gonna be a handful, wasn't she? He shrugged and looked at her. "Anyway, thanks again. The name's Maxina - Maxina Rasren. What about you?" |

Maxina took the third note from the girl and started to read it, but for some reason it felt like she was laughing at him. He couldn't imagine why, though. Erika Forst, huh... "Me? Oh, it's terrible. Someone wanted me to run an errand. And then another teacher. And then another. And another. And so on, and so on. I've spent the past, like, hour running up and down that flight of stairs like a dozen times. And then I forgot my hat, to boot! It's horrible, Forst - The worst." Hats were very important. Hopefully, she understood that much, at least. |

For some reason, Maxina felt like Forst was laughing at him again. "What? Oh, no. God, no." Maxina read Erika's latest note, "Naw, fuck that shit, I ain't goin' back up there today. The last thing I need is to go all the way back up to the fourth floor and end up tumbling down all of them at once. Or run into someone pressuring me to do more errands. It'll be fine until tomorrow." Maxina neglected to mention that he had five of the same hat back at the dorm. The only difference in them was the pin, anyway, and the one in that particular hat was a dime a dozen anyway, so he'd live without having it. But... "Wait, why are you so concerned about my hat right now?" |

(hey, look, I can thread in a timely fashion) Maxina read the new note from Forst and nodded. Well, that certainly made sense, at least. Granted, if she knew he had five more just like it, she'd probably be singing a different tune, but right now that was completely irrelevant. Not ten seconds after that, she'd shoved another paper into Maxina's hands. Not that he was going to say anything about it, but this was beginning to seem like a waste of paper. If Maxina listened closely, he could hear a forest weeping - heheheh. Erika Forest. It's funny because it's a play on words - Wait, no, focus, Rasren! "Huh..." Maxina was going to say he wasn't hungry before his stomach disagreed with him on that point and made its stance known. He'd have scolded it if they weren't in a public situation, and also if Forst wouldn't think him some kind of sociopath for yelling at himself. And so, he just shrugged. "Well, I guess it can't hurt...Lead the way, Forst. Anywhere but here." |

Maxina took the final note (was he going to have to hold onto these until later? His pockets were getting crowded...) and read it, as was quickly becoming the standard in this "conversation". The Wild Duck Burger, huh...man, that was all the way up there, in that part of Rockport that was really western directionally and he wasn't planning on going thataway anyway. He did, however, keep that one to himself, since it felt like Forst could read minds for some reason. "Aww, aren't you just adorable with your little smiley faces..." It was a slightly condescending thought, which was why he kept it to himself. Before he could say anything, however, he looked up to see Forst was gone - and at the door, already motioning for him to follow. Guess he wasn't getting a choice. "H-Hey! Wait up, at least! Some of us have to read everything you say!" [thread end] |
