"Tell me your troubles, strange ugly Moogle."
Name: Hayate Goto Age: 16 Gender: Male School/Occupation: First year at Kasuhayashi High, Homeroom 1-7. Recently started working part time at the local Junes store. Clubs: Basketball Team. Interests/Hobbies: Hayate is very hot and cold with his pursuits In the past he has been known to very voraciously consume media that catches his interests, only to completely lose interest in the same show, manga, or book series that held him so enthralled in just the span of a week. He hasn't found much that really held his interest, and not for a lack of trying: He's dabbled in art, music, and sports of all kinds, but he didn't really find much that appealed to him. When it comes to pass times, it's always been more Hayate's style to just go with the flow of whatever his peers or friends were doing. There are two noteworthy exceptions, activities that he's always enjoyed. He enjoys the game of basketball, he's good at it and considers it a very convenient means of fulfilling the club participation obligation all Kasuhayashi High Students are required to satisfy. He even plays and practices on his own time. He has been known to even bet on games of one-on-one in the past. The second involves Sojutsu, the traditional Japanese art of wielding a spear. Ever since he was young he considered the tutelage in the martial art a source of fond memories. Because of that, even if he had never had to use the lessons before, he kept in practice. Appearance: Hayate is a tall and athletic young man. With a build that serves him well for sprinting. His hair is red and he prefers to keep it combed back out of his face. His skin is fair and his sharp features are somewhat easy on the eyes. When it comes to his mood, he has recently taken to becoming more sullen than his previously cheerful and gregarious way and is far more likely to scowl than smile most days. For clothes, he strongly prefers wear whatever is the least hassle: Tracksuits or jeans and a shirt, the standard Kasuhayashi High uniform. He has no preference as long as its not an overcomplicated bother. He will dress up for special occasions, but even then he was never accused of dressing ostentatiously. Personality: Hayate has began to distrust the whole world. This is both figurative and in a quite literal sense. People fail you, or worse you fail them. Nothing is as it seems, and nothing should be accepted at face value. His past experiences have left him profoundly cynical regarding other people, and extremely open minded about things he would have dismissed as impossibilities before. Effectively, this means he is starting over: The world is new, strange and dangerous. A hostile and alien place where one must always tread lightly. As appropriate for one with that mindset, Hayate seldom truly relaxes. Once there was a time when chasing after girls dominated Hayate's thought process. That time is long past his desire is gone. He feels it was lost to the Siren in the Desert of Desire and believes it will not return. Due to his past experiences, nothing will attract his suspicion more than a young woman who shows interest in him. In some cases even outright ire. Those that he does come to trust are still kept at arm's length for different reasons. He does not trust himself to return their faithfulness in kind. There is a such thing as too close, and he's found it, time and time again. History: Hayate's parents met and dated in high school. Kiku Shirahata and Ryo Goto were quite close, and even made a pact to wed upon graduation. There were early signs that would become serious problems later: Kiku's attention drifted to other men quickly, while Ryo could become extremely cold and distant. Still, the two did just as they planned and were married the day after graduating from college. At first, it seemed all was well. Ryo quickly got a lucrative office job and Kiku was freed to become a housewife and concentrate on building a family. Yumegawa seemed like a perfect place to set down roots, especially at a time when the economy was much stronger. When that changed, friction began anew once more: Ryo was out of a job and forced to take whatever he could. Kiku managed to find work for the Mizuta Group. Though this inversion of their power dynamic only lasted a year, the damage was done. Resentment and old habits returned to both of them. Even Ryo's securing a job as a factory worker or Kiku expectation of their first child had not been enough to stem what was happening. Their son, named Hayate, would be their only boy. His parent's growing distaste for one another was something that they managed to keep from him for the first years of his life. It wasn't until he was eight that became too much to ignore. At that time, Kiku simply left. Vanished with nothing to say to either husband or son. It was a severe blow to young Hayate, and his relationship with his father suffered at once for it. The distance Ryo had with Kiku was replaced with growing rift with his son. When Hayate was nine, he ran away from home with the explicit intent to find his mother. The mission was a complete failure and before it was dark a policeman returned him to Ryo's doorstep. From that point on, Hayate's relationship with his father would slip into a state of outright and mutual antagonism. With an absentee mother and a hostile father, other members of Hayate's family took notice and stepped in: His grandmother on his father's side Saeko took a keen interest in her grandson. The same was true of Kiku's father, Kichibei Shirahata. The third closest member of Hayate's extended family was his uncle Taisuke. He was Ryo's older brother, who constantly took him to task over his behavior. In their own ways, they all contributed to the positive experiences in Ryo's adolescence. He was always welcome in Taisuke and Saeko's homes, right up until the latter passed away in 2010. Kicheibei gladly arranged to have Hayate visit him whenever he had extended amounts of time, like during summer break, or Golden Week. Hayate's grandfather was always an avid scholar of the martial arts, and much of the young man's time with him was spent learning traditional spear-fighting techniques. Eventually Taisuke's own family issues required more and more of his attention. With his uncle no longer available this reduced Hayate's time to mostly with his father and off to his grandfather as much as possible. He did well in middle school, and his freshmen year of high school was shaping up to be even better. He was gaining attention of girls, and had chosen recent transfer Yoko Fukui as a girlfriend. This relationship was doomed the moment the two encountered Haruka Kamishita. Despite knowing better, he allowed himself to be seduced by her, and the end result was disastrous for apparently all parties involved. Even as he suffered the guilt of what happened with his then-ex girlfriend, his impulsive tendency to override common sense for lust betrayed him again. Sophie Lancaster, under the assumed alias 'Rachel Spitfire.' trapped and stranded him in a strange alien realm known as the Desert of Desire. Almost at once there he was attacked by a Shadow, and almost killed. He managed to escape it, but not without being taken in by Siren. Initially the strange being seemed welcoming, and willing to take him in. Soon he was held at her whims, his own will subverted by her charm magic. Nearly a week later, an expedition that included Yoko Fukui and strangely enough, both Sophie Lancaster and Haruka Kamishita. Despite a threat of no one being allowed to leave, it was eventually negotiated that they would be allowed to go so long as Siren had a regular visit from Lancaster. It was not completely without incident, however. Yoko Fukui attacked Siren, and still under influence of her charm magic, Hayate Goto brutally attacked her. In the end a strange being known as Bethany arrived with cryptic portents, the means of aiding Yoko and the way out. He had little use for what she had to say: It was all dismissed as the affairs of those with magic powers, who did as they wished with them. Despite his desire to simply go home, things would never be the same for Hayate Goto, not after what he'd seen and experienced. Weapons/Equipment/Combat Skill: Thanks to his grandfather's tutelage in Shojutsu, Hayate is more than proficient in the fundamentals of fighting with a spear. He would be reluctant to call himself an 'expert' by any means, but he definitely knows what he is doing. His weapon of choice is a special spear that was designed by a craftsman friend of his grandfather. It was designed by marrying traditional weapon design with modern construction techniques: The end result is a spear constructed in such a way as to compare favorably to an 'old school' yari whilst being able to be unscrewed and broken down into nine sections that can easily be concealed, or stored in a relatively compact carrying case. Kicheibei found the weapon a novelty. When Hayate showed interest in it, he gladly gave it to his grandson. Initial Persona: Lemuel Gulliver is the main character of Gulliver's Travels, a novel by Johnathan Swift. Over the course of the story he recounts his many extraordinary journeys to remote and fantastical nations of the world. In the form of a Persona, Gulliver is a tall, spindly figure that appears to be made out of living quicksilver. It has long dark hair that often obscures its face which always carries a calm expression. There is a fist-sized aquamarine orb lodged directly in the center of the Persona's chest, as if it were partially submerged in liquid metal. It is clothed, and Gulliver wears a long dark green coat of fine fabric that is tattered and sleeveless, open to leave its chest exposed. He wears pants of similar fabric as the coat, tattered at the knees which seem to end in two formless masses of mercury instead of ankles and feet. On his hands he wears thick dark leather gloves that end halfway between the wrists and elbows. What would appear to be a miniature broken ship's mast scaled down to be over seven feet in length. It is sufficiently free of sails and rigging to have tattered hints of both rope and cloth but still be effective as a spear when Gulliver uses physical attack skills. - Name: Gulliver - Arcana: 0: The Fool - Drain: - Reflect: - Null: - Resist: Water, Wind - Weak: Fire, Earth - Initial Skills: Aqua, Garu, Assault Dive, Rakunda, Malaqua, Muzzle Shot, Magaru Compendium Roleplay Sample: This is my sixth character Edited by nonsequitur, Jun 15 2018, 11:57 AM.

"...does this clockwork hand follow you... or guide you?"
Approved. And I would just like to register that I love Gulliver's description, good job on that in particular. |
