| Most people think time is like a river...; And here, it is. It's made of liquid, you see. | |

"...does this clockwork hand follow you... or guide you?"
|
This is an aspect of the forum which I am brutally and shameless ripping off from Persona: Project Rebirth because, quite frankly, trying to keep up a solid chronology in a play-by-post forum RP is sort of like trying to keep a barrel of water from sloshing around on the inside--you have to be stupidly careful and you have to move r e a l l y f u c k i n g s l o o o o o o w to pull it off. Like the forum which inspired this one, Mindscapes operates on a "Liquid Time" system. Simply put, you can have as many topics running with a given character at one time as you want (I wouldn't recommend more than three or four unless you want to confuse the fuck out of yourself, though), and the exact timing of the events in question doesn't really matter. For example: Character A's intro topic - takes place on X day of X month of X year Character A's awakening - started while intro topic is still on page 1 but references itself as happening two days later Character A's first Social Link topic - since it doesn't require much in the way of a Persona, user goes ahead an starts this topic assuming that awakening has happened unspecified number of days in the past, even though awakening is still in progress because the guy who joined it is being lazy about posting in it (hop to it, by the way, you're keeping the newbie waiting) ^ This sort of thing is okay. A jumble of events that all transpire around each other during the same vague one-or-two week timeframe is usually pretty manageable, and the upside to Liquid Time is that it allows the rest of us to keep having fun with each other even if a key player in this one long-running plotline has to take a month or two off to get his college stuff in order or something. There will be key plot events and likely other character-centric plots that act as forum-wide game-changers during the course of this RP. Or at least draw a whole bunch of people into them for a while. Such is inevitable, really. Consider such events the only real "solid" markers of time in the series of events. The upshot is: don't worry too much about being meticulous with time. Just try to keep a basic idea in your head of what threads happen before others or after others and we'll all get on just fine. We're here to have fun, not to spend ages and ages snail-crawling our way through a day-to-day calendar. Also, posts can be as long or short time-wise as you need them to be, there's no "each post takes a minute" rule or anything. Just don't go crazy with that. Do what needs doing and leave some of that liquid time for others to drink. NOTE: Liquid Time doesn't mean you get to jump to whatever part of the year you want to. The RP's story begins in April. And it will progress, as threads are written, from April. I don't care what time of year it is IRL or whatever, the RP's chronology, as vague and flexible and potentially nonsensical as it may be... begins in April, and moves forward from there. |
