Name: Jacqueline 'Jax' Darling. Also answers to 'Jackie', 'Jack', and even 'Jaq'. Age: 17 Gender: Female School/Occupation: Currently homeschooled. Jax might like to get into Tenshihishou but the money for that doesn't exist, and she'd die before setting foot into Kasuhayashi, having heard of its somewhat grim reputation. As of now, she works part time as a waitress in her father's recently opened restaurant 'The Three Bears' in the Mizugachi Ward, occasionally subbing in as an assistant chef when things get sticky. Clubs: None currently. If through some stroke of luck she was to make it into Tenshihishou, she'd likely hit up the Music and Cooking clubs, or perhaps Theater. Interests/Hobbies: The reasons behind Jacqueline's hopeful club selections are tied to her interests; at heart Jackie is a performer who loves to romp around for the entertainment of others; even going so far as to briefly form a (garage based) alternative rock band back home in the States. As for the cooking, Jax has long been stuck as the chef in her own home, due to her father's amazing facade of being able to burn even water if put behind a stove. Though she's not quite a French Chef yet, Jackie doesn't begrudge cooking for a more talented chef than she because she knows that it's her father's way of teaching her the family's many recipes. Jacqueline is also an avid racer and owns a motorcycle that she tuned up herself, even going through the trouble of importing it to Japan to take advantage of the looser motorcycle laws for fun. She was also involved in and vocal about American politics, a subject which would mean very little to anyone native to Japan. But not everything Jax does is extroverted or showy; the raven haired girl also appreciates the occasional swim or alone time with a good book. She's also been known to play a video game or two, under the handle 'NuEgo'. Frankly, Jax wants to feel like she's spent time each day improving herself, and not wasting her time. Appearance: Tall, dark haired and beautiful, Jax has been compared to a young Elizabeth Taylor more than once, and just like One-Shot Liz she's got the face and figure to maybe achieve her dream of making it big in show business one day. She is quite tall, particularly for Japan, but not tall enough to intimidate the men from her hometown. Her body is curvy and feminine but also athletic, and her face is unique and striking; a triangle of beauty marks dots one cheek and her soulful eyes are colorfully mismatched blue and gold through the use of contacts. She keeps her curly hair short for a girl, and one side of her dark bangs is constantly dyed platinum blonde. Unlike the beauties she's constantly compared to, Jackie is quite the tomboy; preferring tight jeans and leather to frilly dresses or lace. Jax changes up her appearance more frequently than some people change lanes, but there are consistent hallmarks throughout; The American girl usually looks like she walked out of some sort of 80s revival shoot, draped in flamboyant colors, bandannas and scarves, leather, chaps, and even spurs for her boots. The look works for her though, in part because of her modern twists on the retro fashions and also because she simply has the looks and confidence to pull it off. Personality: First and foremost Jax is a born cynic; always looking on the dark side of the life and working to ward off misfortunes that only she can see. Her dour attitude is not entirely unwarranted; the young rebel was forced to harden and mature prematurely by a string of tragedies that struck again and again at her family and closest friends. As a result Jax finds it difficult to go through the motions of becoming close to anyone anymore, as deep wounds of loneliness and the fear of further loss have made it easier to just stay private. This is not to say that Jax is anti-social or adverse to making friends; she is a very lonely and dissatisfied girl, but she simply finds it easier not to seek such things out. A girl defined by extremes, Jax knows what she thinks and isn't afraid to say it. She doesn't care what other people think of her, she's not afraid to get loud or angry, and she's disinterested in social mores. In her eyes life is a struggle, a bloody, never-ending battle for dominance that eventually consumes everyone in the end. She's fought battles before and she's always fought dirty, so why should life be any different? Why should she hold back when every moment could spell doom for what little she has left, for the few people she still has to care about? While this rationalization has led Jax to do questionable things in the past, but Jacqueline is no tactless idiot or delinquent headed straight for jail either; she is the daughter of a wily and well-educated father who has taught her everything he knows. Jax dotes lovingly on her father, who she sees as a good honest man and who has never given her any reason to mistrust him. It doesn't hurt that after fallout with her friends back home her father might be the only thing the girl has left. A corporate lawyer turned schoolteacher turned restaurateur, Leon Darling has done his very best to be there for his daughter despite how easy it would be to just give up after the loss of his wife. Their bond has strengthened not only through their struggles together as a family, but also their contempt for the man they blame for causing their misfortune; Albert Garland, Leon's college friend and former partner. The story of how the two parted and the scandal behind it all had a large influence on the rowdy rebel as she grew up, turning Jax into a fervently anti-capitalist, anti-corporate, anti-establishment sort of girl. One of the few ways that Jax is ever able to unwind and release her inhibitions is creatively. Jacqueline is a lyrical girl in a post modern world; and she's constantly humming new swatches of song or muttering over lyrics for any of a thousand unproduced songs that she hopes to hit it big with in a few years. Just as gifted as a writer and an actor as she is with song, Jax spends a lot of time working with abstracts and conceptual pieces; albums that tell stories through music and wordplay rather than just being songs to dance to. Jax is extremely passionate about her music and the state of modern media to the point that it's one of the few topics on which she is extremely approachable. She is not only willing to discuss the topic but also to teach and advise; despite her differences in temperament from her father Jax is also an effective and patient teacher when the time comes for it. The darkest part of Jax's personality is, again, fixed to her past. She feels guilt over several things that cannot reasonably be attributed as her fault; from the death of her mother and her best friend Adeline to her runaway sister Remmington. At those times when her torment gets the better of her, Jax can be reckless and foolhardy. This coupled with her natural daredevil personality has occasionally led to dangerous life-threatening stunts in her quest for distraction from the pain. In the strange land of Japan this attitude comes with special repercussions of its own; when she's riled up, Jax fears no man alive and is unwilling to back down from any manner of challenge. There's no telling what such an aggressive, dramatic personality could be driven to under the right set of circumstances. History: The Darling family first met misfortune when Jax was only a little girl. At the time, her father Leon was partner in a large multinational corporation along with Albert Garland, but after a series of patent lawsuits led to a violent fallout between the two men, Leon left the company and moved the family across the country to his hometown in Vermont. Jax grew up as the second daughter of a pair of schoolteachers struggling to make ends meet, a matter made more challenging by her older sister Remmington, who was old enough to remember more prosperous days and resent her father for removing the family from wealth. When Jax was just thirteen, her sister was picked up for underage drinking and her mother had to recover her from the police station. Jax had been aware of her sister's drinking problem but had never said anything to her parents out of fear of retribution. That night the two of them were in a car accident, and her mother was killed instantly. The grief that she felt over the loss of her mother-who she had always been close to-was only augmented when Remmington became consumed with guilt over her role in the accident and ran away from home. After that it was just her and her father, trying to make ends meet in a little town in the back end of nowhere. Two years later Jax's best friend Adeline Carver-a family friend and fellow musician-was diagnosed with Leukemia. Jax stood by her friend through her entire struggle with the disease, trying to spur her on and desperately trying to find something, anything to avoid the sting of another loss. Her efforts were in vain however, and Adeline passed away within the year. The young rebel fell into a deep funk afterwards; her grades and relationships with her few other friends slipping as she tried to deal with the huge backlog of grief that had built up behind her tough-girl facade. Eventually Leon pulled her out of school, and the pair traveled across the country for a year to try and find something new in life. Now the pair have moved to Japan to be closer to her mother's side of the family and start a business serving foreign cuisine to the students and businessmen of Yumegawa. Jax only speaks functional Japanese and knows very little about Japanese customs other than what she found relevant to her hobbies, but she's picking things up as she goes along; determined to start and protect a new life in this small little town. There's just one loose end left for her to tie up - the matter of Albert Garland and his foothold in Yumegawa. Jax has been taught all her life not to hold grudges, but there are some opportunities you just can't pass up. Weapons/Equipment/Combat Skill: Descended from a family of avid hunters, Jax knows her way around a knife and bought herself a balisong knife in Japan just because they're legal there. She is also gifted with most common firearms; not that she expects to be using any in Japan. Finally, the girl owns a set of brass knuckles that she likes to keep on her at all times. Just in case. Initial Persona: - Name: Melpomene - Arcana: XX: Judgement - Drain: - Reflect: - Null: - Resist: Force, Electric - Weak: Light, Ice - Initial Skills: Zan, Cleave, Evil Touch The Muse of Song and Tragedy appears as a slender, surprisingly androgynous figure in colorful period dress, although a closer inspection reveals that each layer of garments are from wildly different times and places, despite the pleasing appearance of the whole. Melpomene has no head, instead carrying a mask mounted on a long slender reed that she holds up against the hole for her neck. The mask changes expressions in lieu of a face, but it is seemingly the only part of Melpomene that moves; the rest of her motions are carried out when no one is there to see them.
