Name: Toru Watanabe Age: 16 Gender: Male School/Occupation: Kasuhayashi, 2-5 Clubs: Track, looking into changing over to Boxing Interests/Hobbies: Photography, urban exploration (breaking & entering, trespassing,) Appearance: Toru already stands at an average height for an adult man in Japan – about 5'7”/1.7 meters tall. His shoulders are a bit broader than normal, but he maintains a relatively trim figure through a healthy diet of running and fist fights. He has black hair and brown eyes, which have a constant slight squint. He isn't terribly noteworthy in terms of being handsome or ugly – the sort of person who might just blend into a crowd were he not doing anything, though he may need a shave. Toru tends to wear the standard school uniform, but it is disheveled and tends toward being untucked. If one were to go through his pockets, they would find – in addition to such things as a wallet, cheap phone, and house keys – a set of lockpicks, a pack of Lucky 7s, and a black zippo lighter. In his off time, Toru commonly dresses in jeans, a t-shirt and an unbuttoned flannel shirt. He wears a pair of cheap black-plastic shades that he thinks look awesome, but any style that comes from them is merely an artifact of how enthusiastic he is about them. As far as body language goes, Toru commonly slouches to take away from his height, and tends to hold his limbs loosely. That is, unless he feels offended or threatened: in these situations he rears up to his full height and clenches his hands into fists. When he feels a fight coming, he tends to grin rather broadly and his eyes lose their squint. Personality: While Toru is fairly intelligent, he tends not to think ahead and just respond to situations as they come up. His mind wanders a great deal and he has a habit of forgetting things unless they personally offend him: he can hold a grudge like nobody's business and will fight, needle, and make fun of individuals he feels worthy of his scorn, even to his own detriment. On the other hand, Toru isn't just a forgetful gadfly: he has a strong moral sense when it comes to people he thinks are weak. He will not abide bullying and has been known to butt into situations where an older, larger, or stronger individual is victimizing someone else. Despite these white knight tendencies, he has a bit of a fuzzy view of property. Toru has been known to break in and explore old and abandoned buildings, sometimes even squatting there for a week at a time should he find a good location. He also has a somewhat juvenile attitude of youthful rebellion, and despises being subjected to others' authority. He will cooperate, but he won't serve. All of this stems from the basic idea of his morality: everyone is left with the results of the choices they have made, and these are the only things that anyone really has to worry about. If it doesn't hurt anyone other than yourself, and you can get away with it, how can it be wrong? History: Toru's parents were a salaryman and the receptionist in his office, and they lived a rather boring and conventional life with their only child – a scrawny young boy who was often picked on – until the death of his father due to bowel cancer. This struck when Toru was twelve, and the boy was deeply effected by the event. He grew distant from his mother and began to wander the city, learning how to break into buildings to get away from the silence and cold of his home. A combination of these nocturnal wanderings and a sudden growth spurt allowed Toru to shoot up a few links on the food chain, though he still remembered his time as the low man on the proverbial totem pole. He was picked up by the police several times, and began to get in trouble for fighting. The stress of her only son becoming a delinquent, the death of her husband, and the second job that she had to work to support her life style eventually took its tole on his mother's mental and physical health. She eventually fell asleep at the wheel on the way to her second job as a waitress, and was in a rather spectacular car accident. Toru attended her funeral, but couldn't shake feelings of alienation and apathy, as well as the stress of realizing just how abnormal that response was. He represses those feelings and goes through his days, now, living in a rather poorly-maintained dormitory associated with the Kasuyashi high school. Weapons/Equipment/Combat Skill: Toru is pragmatic, first and foremost. While he is fair in a straight fight, he tries to avoid them unless he can surprise or get the drop on his opponent, and will make use of any features of his surroundings that can give him an advantage. He fights with his fists most of the time, but has no formal training, relying more on enthusiasm and his size than technique. Initial Persona: Kukulkan is a pre-Aztec iteration of the “Feathered Serpent” deity. When Toru calls it up, it appears looped around him just beyond the reach of his arms. The serpent's body is a bit thicker than a man's thigh, and is covered in feathers of every color on every part of its hide, other than the underside which has heavy, laterally-oriented scales. Its face is a mask of a man's face made of heavy gray stone inlaid with gold wiring. - Name: Kukulkan - Arcana: XIX – The Sun - Drain: - Reflect: - Null: - Resist: Physical, Light - Weak: Force, Darkness - Initial Skills: Hama, Patra, Bash Roleplay Sample: Toru stretched out on the roof, his left arm folded up behind his head, phone held a few centimeters from his squinting eyes. C^2 had been shit lately, everyone asking for advice and bitching about personal drama. He remembered when it used to be a font of random and amusing cruelty. Like the internet should be. Better that people get that out electronically than act on it. The door opened, a first year student was shoved out, and the door slammed shut. The boy picked himself up and ran to the door, tugging on it. Apparently, someone thought that depositing the new meat on the roof and locking them up there was a good idea. “Hey, let me back in! This isn't funny! I've got band!” the kid shouted. Toru yawned, sat up, and then stood. He stretched, and then walked over watching the boy's energy flagging. Eventually, the younger student's energy dropped completely, and he sat down, fuming at the door. “Those assholes,” Toru muttered. The boy started, and looked back at Toru. “Eh? There's someone else up here?” “Yeah. I was tryin' to get some relaxation done.” “On the roof?” “It's a nice day. Goddamn balmy, I'd even say,” Toru said. “Well, we're stuck here now.” Toru waved the boy to silence, and rifled through his pockets. After a moment, he pulled out a small clamshell case and snapped it open. He took a knee in front of the door, and got to work. The first year got up and stood behind him. “Are you a burglar?” “Fuck no, I'm not,” Toru said. Then he ordered: “Get out of my light.” The boy shuffled to the side. Toru listened for a moment, and then spoke quietly: “I'm goin' to unlock the door. Do me a favor and run through it, screamin' your head off when I do. I can still hear them talkin'.” The boy nodded, suddenly serious. With a click, Toru opened the door, and his new acquaintance performed like a champion: “Aaaaaaaaa!” Toru slipped around the side, and hid behind the open door. After a moment, a pair of larger students came through looking around, suddenly confused by what their victim had seen. They looked around, and ventured further from the door. What could have set their victim to screaming bloody murder? There was nothing here. “Ahem,” Toru said from the door. He used his index finger to pull the skin from beneath his right eye in an akanbe, and stuck out his tongue. He slammed and locked the door behind him. That felt good: he had managed to achieve one good deed for the day, and hadn't needed to risk any broken bones in the process. Turning away, he walked down the hall toward where he had stowed his bag, whistling. Edited by Czernobog, Jul 3 2013, 09:00 AM.
