Name: Michio “Laurel” Deacon (道夫「ローレル」ディーコン) Age: 21 Gender: Female Occupation: Florist at Ohana. She takes care of the flowers and arranges them into the needed designs, while her boss takes care of everything business-related and handles customers. Interests/Hobbies: Lighting paper on fire, smoking (only when very stressed), botany, combat training, baking, electronic dance music, board games, cartoons, fortunes Appearance: From a mix of Japanese and Greek descent, Laurel’s structure is strikingly Japanese, though her hair and eyes would make one think differently. She stands at 5'4", has freckles all over her body, and lean muscle from all the training she does. Her hair is a chestnut brown, slightly wavy and styled into a bob with straight bangs. Her eyes are a mix between green and blue, shifting between the two depending on the lighting. She usually opts for loose dresses or shirts and shorts, always in earth tones or in monochrome. She greatly enjoys wearing tights/socks of varying lengths, and they all have distinct patterns on them. Personality: Harsh, cold, snappy, gentle, motherly, and kind. These words describe two sides of the same coin. While Laurel is normally (but subtly) wary and distrustful of those she meets, even going to far as to pick fights with those who rub her the wrong way, she is extremely nice to those she values. Ordinarily, she is courteous to those she meets, but she won’t go out of her way to do them any favors. It takes a lot of work to gain her trust, work that most people don’t know exists, but once befriended, she is a loyal and strong ally, willing to do almost anything for them. She loosens up a bit and is more spunky and energetic, willing to push her friends a little to get them to do what she wants. She cares deeply for their wellbeing, almost coming off as overbearing, and if they are injured in her presence she will aggressively insist on bandaging them up herself. Underneath the surface, she is a bit of an escapist, preferring to ignore any personal problems rather than try to solve them. She hates talking about herself, and her past is an extremely touchy subject. As a result, any such questions are answered cryptically or outright ignored. She usually has dark circles under her eyes from a lack of sleep, always plagued by the same nightmare, but covers them up with makeup. She gets embarrassed to varying degrees when someone shows concern for her, but seems to relish in it. She enjoys the company of children from time to time, though she looks at them with a certain, heavy sadness. She likes plants more than she likes people, and her dream is to one day own a greenhouse. Secretly, she’s jealous of everyone who’s gotten amnesia in Yumegawa. History: Michio‘s deep mistrust of people started in kindergarten, when her best friend ditched her for the popular kids, making fun of her and pretending that she didn’t even know her. They made fun of her name, meant for boys, and Michio, upset, tried to shrug it off as best she could and made friends with some of the boys in her class, only to have them run away from her a week later when they learned about ‘cooties’. She began going by “Laurel,” purposely picking a name that was relatively hard to pronounce just to spite others. Future attempts at reaching out failed, and it wasn’t long before Laurel turned bitter and stopped trying altogether, instead lashing out when people tried to approach her. At home was a different story altogether. As Laurel grew up, the house grew more and more crowded with younger siblings she took a shine to, eventually ending with a total of 5 children, including Laurel. In their presence, she was always docile and caring, yearning for their affections but also trying her best to be a good role model, as far as they knew. Because of them, she managed to mellow out a little, but was still hesitant to make friends. At age 14, when a murder occurred in their neighborhood, Laurel and her siblings began taking lessons in self-defense. Laurel dedicated herself to learning how to fight for her siblings’ peace of mind, vowing to protect them. Each sibling learned a different type of self-defense style, ranging from kendo to brawling, and Laurel became very skilled at using spears and quarterstaffs, as well as unarmed combat. At the same time, this was when boys started aggressively hitting on her in a most unpleasant manner, and learning to defend herself was in her best interest. To her dismay, she actually had to employ her skills a couple of times. She never knocked anyone hard enough to badly injure them, though. Laurel’s youngest sister, Junko, took up gardening when things died down, a few months after the incident. Junko took a shining to lilies and roped Laurel into helping her with great enthusiasm. They managed to make a beautiful, albeit small, healthy garden that the whole family loved and could even eat from, as it included strawberry bushes and tomato vines, amongst others. When Laurel was 16, she was charged with watching the house while her parents went out together, to relax. Then, one night, when Junko went out to gather some strawberries for dessert, it happened. The murderer from 2 years ago visited their house, seriously injuring Junko as she entered the house, and then moved on to break the oldest brother’s arm. Hearing the screaming and commotion, she rushed downstairs, dreading what was happening. Seeing Junko on the ground in a pool of her own blood, Laurel lost it and attacked the murderer. After a short struggle, she managed to knock him to the ground and smash his shoulder with a tall lamp. This wasn’t nearly enough for her, though, and she struck him over and over. When she regained control of her body, her remaining siblings were cowering in the closet and she was standing over the murderer, who was barely conscious. She herself was rather badly wounded, and the police had their guns pointed at her. Although Junko recovered, Laurel couldn’t bring herself to visit her in the hospital, nor could she face her when she finally came home. Ever since then, she’s been haunted by what she’d done and what she hadn’t been able to prevent, not to mention her siblings (save Junko) were terrified of her and her parents blamed her for everything. She dropped out of University only a month in, surrounded by rumors of who she was and what she’d done, and moved to Yumegawa at age 19. She changed her name and tried to cut any and all ties with her past, but could not give up botany. Her suppressed dislike of people merged with a fear of getting close to others, and she began lashing out even more violently at strangers. She was unable to maintain a job for more than a few weeks at a time, only barely able to scrape by. For a while, she took up heavy drinking, but when sober, was constantly plagued by thoughts of how her dead sister would disapprove. She cleaned up her act, sick of tormenting herself, and got a steady job as a florist. She hasn’t contacted her family since, nor does she ever plan to, but yearns to go back in time to live happily with them. Weapons/Equipment/Combat Skill: Her weapon of choice is a quarterstaff that has been modified to have a hammerhead on one end. The hammerhead serves mostly as a weight, not heavy enough to badly injure someone with a careless strike but enough to break a bone if swung right. She has a penchant for skillfully twirling the weapon around her neck, torso, and body, allowing her attacks to flow while maintaining defense. Otherwise, she is quite skilled in unarmed combat, but has very few attacks. Most of her moves are dedicated to evasive maneuvers and manipulating enemies. Initial Persona: Mnemosyne, a Greek titaness and the personification of memory. She is little over 7’ tall, has light brown wavy hair reaching her lower back, and green eyes with hazel flecks. She wears a green stola with fancy brown and gold embellishments, but it is soaked from her knees down. Skeletal arms clutch the wet parts of her dress, and she holds a skull in her hands. 9 clay pots, each depicting a different Muse, hover around her in a circle. She throws them at enemies when using physical attacks, but they are seemingly unbreakable. When using magic, the spell will come from one or more pots. - Name: Mnemosyne - Arcana: XIII: Death - Drain: - Reflect: - Null: Dark - Resist: Phys - Weak: Elec, Light, Wind - Initial Skills: Bash, Dia, Poisma Roleplay Sample: “I wish I could forget.” Edited by Lazuli, Oct 6 2013, 08:34 PM.

Approved. I would like to point out that the "roleplay sample" in this post is a joke, for any newbies who are silly enough in the head to look at it and think they can get away with one-line RP samples. Because that would be even sillier, since I've blatantly spelled it out for the silly people~ |
