"Tell me your troubles, strange ugly Moogle."
Name: Jingyang Du (Order: Given name then surname; Du Jingyang in traditional manner); answers to 'Jing' as a nickname since coming to Japan.

Age: 19

Gender: Male

School/Occupation: First Year Entomology Student at Yumegawa University

Clubs: N/A

Interests/Hobbies: Jing is very interested in his given field of study with a focus on honeybees and other members of Apis genus. Because of this, he voraciously learns as much as he can about his chosen field. He's also happy to discuss it with anyone that shares such interests (as most people do not he typically keeps this to himself, though. He often enjoys time out in nature, but not necessarily for the same reason as most other people would, as what others would call six-legged 'pests' he finds no less interesting than an inspiring view or a colorful flower. He enjoys reading anything and everything he can, and prefers to read novels in Mandarin when he has a pang of nostalgia.

He prefers to stay active, practicing martial arts when he can. Though he enjoys them, he rarely watches television or movies but is an avid video game player. Mainly racing, RPGs and shooters.

Appearance: Jing is tall and athletic, though in a way that he's lean and toned rather than bulky. His hair is dark and he prefers it cut quite short. His brown eyes have a sharp quality about them that makes his neutral expression almost seem like glaring. His skin is slightly tanned and he has a low voice and his Japanese has a heavy and obvious Mandarin accent, as does the English he's managed to teach himself.

He prefers simple clothing that are easy to move around in. He has no qualms about track suits in his everyday attire, but when meeting someone outside of the most casual of contexts or doing something of import, he does his best to dress nicely. There is little in the way of obvious distinguishing marks. Only a large scar from his wrist to elbow on his right forearm. He does have an old scar from a puncture wound on his stomach and a birthmark on his left knee however. In all ways, he prefers to be very neat in his presentation.

Personality:Jing is actually quite an agreeable person, though most people probably don't see him as such. Possibly as a result of some culture shock, he can come across as withdrawn, gloomy even. At school, he rarely speaks and keeps to himself in class. There's a good chance that if he was left to his own devices that he'd be fine with studying on his own. He often folds his arms when he's sitting and he's loathe to use two words when one will do.

More often than not, Jing manages to remain calm even in the face of heavy adversity or stress. He's not very impulsive and instead decides what the best course of action should be, ideally ahead of time if he has a chance, and follows it though to the end as much as circumstances would allow. He'd much rather talk than fight his way out of a bad situation and often suggests others try a similar approach as he cautions that such actions are seldom worth the risk.

Jing seldom smiles. This does nothing for his potential reputation as a brooding young man. It's not that he's unhappy, or even doesn't have much to smile about. He was just never a big smiler to begin with. He does open up in two situations: When he's talking about entomology or when he's gotten to know someone well enough that he felt he could fully relax about them. In both cases Jing is far more animate and less 'stiff' than his day to day demeanor would suggest he could be.

History: Jing was born in a small village in Henan Province. His father worked as a foreman in a factory In his village, his mother's older brother lived, a man named Wei. Jing's Uncle Wei proved to be a resourceful man, albeit one with questionable resources. Ever since Jing was young, his father often boasted that they were descendants of the great general Du Yu of the Three Kingdoms Era. Wei saw some opportunity in this and leveraged an alleged bit of prestige in his family name to get Jing martial arts training, no doubt to advance some scheme to eventually make him money. Little, if anything, came of that plan if that were the case.

The other great influence on the boy besides his Sifu in Bajiquan was actually around him in the pastoral setting of his village where farming was common. At a young age he discovered that a significant factor in much of agriculture and the importance of insects to this for both good and ill. Not long after this, he'd decided to focus his studies on such creatures.

When Jing was Sixteen, his father got a promotion that would require him moving his family to Hong Kong. Moving from small town to big city was a relatively easy transition for Jing, even if he never did quite shed his initial title of 'country boy.' He made several good friends in Hong Kong. Amongst them included Mariko, a daughter of a Japanese employee who worked at his father's company. It was Mariko that taught him Japanese, a skill that was encouraged by his parents hoping to give him an 'edge' when he entered his career later. It was also where he met the young man that would quickly become his best friend, Li.

Li was quite enamored with a girl named Xue Fang. Li had a rival for her affections. Unfortunately for Li, this rival was also the leader of a local street gang. Jing quickly found himself putting his skills in Bajiquan to the test in very real fights to help his friend. He did not mind, as he resolved to always have Li's back, a promise he kept faithfully for well over a year.

But one day while Jing was caught alone, he was attacked by the gang and badly injured in a knife attack. He was rushed to a hospital. Unfortunately, Li had been caught by the gang later, he was not so lucky. The loss of his friend affected Jing deeply.

The remainder of his life in Hong Kong was much less eventful. He himself had a girlfriend named Meiling, though he harbored doubts about their relationship from almost the beginning. He graduated near the head of his class and has elected to study abroad for better education opportunities. However, given his family's modest savings, rather than go to America, or Europe or elsewhere, he'd found a college in Japan that seemed to be a good fit, in a small town called Yumegawa.

Weapons/Equipment/Combat Skill: Jing Du has studied Bajiquan since a very young age. Thanks to this, he's quite comfortable fighting with his bare hands if need be, and can even do some serious damage that way. His actual combat experience is much more modest, he'd only had need to use his martial arts for a year or so in actual fights. His weapon of choice is a traditional Chinese Dao sword, but he's familiar enough with all the customary form weapons of his style.

Initial Persona: Du Yuankai (also known as Du Yu) was a general in the Three Kingdoms Era. A general of Jin whose scholarly bent earned him the nickname 'Zuo Zhuan addict' after his love of the history book. As a Persona, he appears as a towering man, holding a large and extremely ornate two-handed dao. He is clad from head to toe in white, gold-trimmed clothing and in ornate silver armor. Only his face and his hands exposed, much of the former is hidden by the shadow of his helmet and the skin of his hands is pale. His eyes are a pair of glowing blue points that peek out from the shadows that obscure most of his face. Floating amongst him always at his side is his beloved Zuo Zhuan, in the form of an extremely large, metal-bound book.
