As the clock struck 1:30 PM in that rainy afternoon, a bell rang throughout the main building of the school. It was, at last, time for the much needed lunch break of the first day of school; it only had started, and students were stressed already as the establishment wasted no time in hammering various subjects into their students' brains. To most, at least. To Nao, it was just a great opportunity for a nap. The boy already knew all of it anyway, so he found staying awake through the morning lecture to be awfully redundant. Due to his surname, he sat in the back of his class, which was a blessing - it allowed him to use his own arms as a comfy pillow, with students in front of him serving as convenient camouflage from the teacher's field of vision. The boy grunted slightly in his slumber when the loud sound reached his ears, not too willing to wake up. What the bell failed to do, another student succeeded to. While walking by the sleepyhead, the female student checked to see if the teacher wasn't looking, and when such was confirmed, she slapped the top of Nao's head abruptly to get him up, before laughing along her friends and leaving the room. "Ngh... Thanks." The boy muttered towards his attacker genuinely, who never heard his words, once realizing everyone was leaving the room. He let out a yawn, not bothering to cover his gaping jaw, just before stretching in place, rubbing his eyes a bit, and looking outside. It was still pouring buckets. "Crud..." Naozumi muttered to himself, before lazily getting up from his seat, and fishing out from his satchel a simple bento box, along with a pair of chopsticks. Leaving his belongings behind like everyone else, he left the 2-5 classroom, headed out for lunch. Considering how heavily it was raining, he figured it would be a waste of time to check either the roof, or the courtyard. The benches would be soaked, and he didn't feel like getting his ass wet just for a meal, even though he most likely would enjoy the solace. And thus, he aimed downstairs to the bottom floor, towards the cafeteria. Of course, that also meant everyone was in the cafeteria. He blinked in astonishment once standing by the entrance. Just like that, every single table was taken by the hundreds of students. Due to being frozen in place by surprise, a student bumped into him from behind on accident whom he didn't recognize, causing Nao to stumble a couple of steps forth. "Watch it, jackass!" Nao ignored the insult, and let the student go on his way to the line for the food, recognizing that he already had his own and was blocking everyone's path. Once out of their way, he surveyed the scene before him carefully, two options running through his mind. He could either go hungry and not deal with that clusterfuck of a situation, or find a single empty seat, sit, eat and get out... |

Somehow. Jun had managed to get a table all to himself. Much to his relief, actually. He seemed to have gotten the same train of starry-eyed girls who saw him and decided for themselves how he must be. He didn't want to be left alone. Instead he was brooding and mysterious. All that kind of rubbish. But those girls had their own clique, and their own friends and they happily sat with them. That left him alone, which suited Jun just fine. Except…with everyone there. That meant space was at a premium, didn't it? Just like Nao over there, who looked a bit bewildered by the place nearly filled to capacity. He was a pain, but he'd probably kept to himself, so he at least wouldn't bother him. Sighing. Jun waved over the other second year to invite him to at least have a place to sit. |

Nao's hope of finding a single empty seat was very dead after a few seconds of fruitless search attempts. Through his mind ran the idea of potentially skipping the next period in favor of getting something inside his stomach; however, it was raining outside, and it was far too dangerous to remain in the pavilion, where someone could easily spot him playing hooky. Needless to say, he quickly resigned to his fate of starvation. But, no! A waving hand was caught on the corner of his eye, and out of pure reflexively curiosity, he glanced its way, spotting some guy there. Hadn't Nao seen him somewhere before? For him to actually remember a face, he must have been some sort of classmate of his. His first assumption was that Jun was waving towards a friend, so Nao glanced behind himself with the intent of spotting the person and getting out of their line of sight; but there was no one there. So... he was waving at him? "Huh... Weird." His mouth barely twitched as he uttered said words more to himself than anyone else. But hey, at least the guy had free seats around himself. Ultimately allowing his empty stomach to have the upper hand, his feet guided him towards the respective table. He nodded in acknowledgement to the student, while taking a seat. "Thanks. Jin, right?" Nao tried to jog his memory, the naming mistake being entirely unintentional. He then opened his bento box, revealing a rather expertly crafted meal inside. "I owe you one." |

When Nao looked around to make sure he meant him, Jun pointed directly to him and nodded. 'Yes, I meant you. So get over here, already!' "Jun Okita." He flatly corrected him, and put his head down to his own half-eaten bento. He waved off any implication that what he did required thanks. "Oh, no, it's fine, you needed a free seat and I have a few, it's simple, right?" |

Nao parted his chopsticks, and reached for the first piece of food which would surely begin to extinguish the almost painful hunger. He didn't seem to have much of a reaction out of getting Jun's name wrong, other than shrugging and forgetting it as soon as he heard it. "Right, that." And so it was gone. "A few? Yeah, I noticed. Watch out, people might be closing in on the table really, really soon." Or so it would be logical. Tables were all full, and there was still quite the line over at the cafeteria's buffet. Naozumi couldn't exactly say the prospect of having that table even more crowded pleased him much. |

"Oh, I don't really care. If there's no other room it can't be helped right?" It wasn't that he didn't like other people. Just that he didn't want to be fawned over by a bunch of vapid girls who after all this time still didn't know a thing about him. Even Nao was preferable to them and he didn't even bother to remember his name. "In the future it wouldn't kill you to sleep though to lunchtime, would it? You're the one who seems irritated by all your problems and here's one you caused yourself." |

"Time to eat as quickly as possible, then." Nao hated doing so, but he had no choice if he wanted to escape the incoming sea of students. He couldn't logically count on his antisocial wall - he broke it himself just to end his hunger. Surely others would be more than capable of doing the same... The food quickly started vanishing its respective box. It was absolutely delicious, though such a thing wasn't exactly surprising - Nao was an excellent cook. For a few moments he seemed to lose focus, while wondering if his sister-in-law had enjoyed the meal he carefully cooked and packed for her that day, along with what he should prepare for dinner. "...?" The boy was snapped out of his reverie by his classmate's words, looking up from his dish towards him. Despite having a very capable intellect, the choice of words confused him quite a bit, finding no reason as to why Jun would have stated such a thing - as far as Naozumi was concerned, he had done absolutely nothing wrong, intentionally or otherwise. "I'm not irritated, what gave you that impression?" He asked with genuine curiosity, trying not to come off as aggressive; however, the ending of Jun's own phrase surely sounded like such. |

He sighed. He wasn't really good at getting his thoughts though the way he wanted to sometimes. And now he had to do just that. He had to ruminate on the matter some more. He had a bit more of his lunch as he thought on it. "It's the way you talk to people, or don't even bother. Like they're not even worth your time." Speaking of irritation. That certainly got under Jun's skin, didn't it? He didn't really like the idea. It gave the food a nasty aftertaste. It was a real shame too, because it was this excellent dish his mother had bought for him so she could spend the time getting ready for work rather than making it herself. "So, if you're not irritated, what is your problem? Do you just want to be left alone then?" Come to think of it? Everyone had a problem, didn't they? Akuro seemed a bit overly dramatic, Rika sadly didn't have a clue and Uchida was crazy enough to want to get into politics. Edited by Nonsequitur, May 6 2014, 11:09 PM.

"People are not worth my time." Nao reiterated after swallowing a small portion of his meal, his expression seeing no change. "Likewise, I'm not worth anyone's time. People are problematic, and I would much rather spend time by myself than inviting needless drama into my life." He had let that happen once, with his sister-in-law. Never again. "Pretty much. If someone doesn't bother me, I won't bother them. If someone bothers me, they can count on me being a sarcastic asshole." It felt like a pretty simple deal, really. "That way, it's a choice I don't have to bother making, other people do. And if they complain afterwards, they have some serious mental capability issues." |
