Behind the outer wall of the Bastion, this thickly wooded area lies permanently draped in a heavy fog- the only hint of the clouds that float around and below this Gateway to Sanctuary. These woods can be accessed only through the breach in the wall or through a series of underground springs that flow magically from the Sanctuary Isles. Thickly wooded and filled with streams and pond, hills and dales, these woods contain wild magics left over from the time of Sanctuary's creation. Eternally shrouded in darkness, they are both a danger and an adventure, depending on if you are hunter or hunted.

"Yes, yes, yes, I'm right here, don't be so damned impatient."

The soft fog that lay along the ground played about her knees as the Baroness hurried behind the black wolf. Thickly wooded, dark with mischievous shadows, still it seemed the enchanted lands of the outer grounds breathed a sigh of relief with her passing. The magic that lived here, the remnants of the old gods who had created Sanctuary, brushed against the pale alabaster of her flawless face.

"I know, but what is so important?"

The wolf, of course, did not answer the question she threw in his direction as he led her around one twisting turn and then another. His manner alone was enough; that and the single howl that had brought her running from the castle where she had been comfortably entertaining thoughts of a trip to New York for a warm dinner. The wolf simply kept going, glancing back infrequently, sure of her attention. At last he came to a small clearing where a tiny brook bubbled up from between two large stones.

Telsa knelt at the side of the brook, her fingers reaching out tentatively to stroke the cold, wet fur of the black cat that lay just out of the water. "How in the world...", she whispered with wonder, even as she felt the shuddering breath that drew through the ragged body. "Poor thing," she murmured, fully aware this was not an ordinary black cat but still caught in the emotion of seeing that seemingly lifeless little body. She gathered the cat to her, cuddling it softly against her full breasts as she rose. Never in all of the years she had guarded Sanctuary had anyone come through this way. She had suspected this one would return, but in this manner?

"Thank you, Schezda," she whispered to the wolf, flashing him a soft smile as she passed him. He watched her go with his intelligent blue eyes so like her own, his massive black tail thumping once against the wet ground.
