Why on earth would you apply my justification to Plague or Swords?

Uhh...a basic sense of fairness and equity?

You know..."The Golden Rule?" Treat others as you would want to be treated??

If you want people to keep their promises to you, then...umm...hang on...it's coming to me....uhh...oh, yeah -- KEEP YOUR PROMISES TO THEM!!

And, conversely, if you're one to break your promises, then you've no right to any better from others.

He also did not make this promise to me as a "friend", he made this promise to me as his co-manager of the chatroom. How could wes' rationale even apply here?

Ah, well at least Swords has a coherent argument. She argues different standards to different types of relationships, implying a hierarchy. In this case, she posits that a promise made to a co-manager of a chatroom has greater value than a promise made to a friend-of-a-friend, which is what Plague was when Wes made her promise to him.

It's a rather arbitrary standard, Swords, but at least you can claim that it has value to you.

Wes, on the other hand, is ever inventing new ways of missing the point.

Quote:

I DO get what you're saying - I think you "forgot" it was me who said that, not Sword, and now you're trying to back out of it by being pissy and confrontational.

What?!?!

Huh?!?!?!

Wes, I am sincere when I say that the events occurring within your cranium would make for a fantastic premise of a Twilight Zone episode.

Quote:

Is it a higher standard? No, he has just demonstrated he only expects people to keep their promises to him...not the other way around.

This is what's commonly referred to as a "double standard." Also, "hypocrisy."

Plague should be bound to his promise to Swords, but Wes should not be bound to her promise to Plague, even though the circumstances of both promises are more or less analoguous.

And, why? By what rationale?

Oh, by this:

Quote:

If Plague wants to keep random promises to strangers all over the world, despite how they treat him, he can go right ahead.

Wes is hereby released from her promise to Plague...(wait for it)...BY VIRTUE OF HAVING TREATED HIM BADLY!!!!

So, the lesson here is that, if you treat someone badly, then you're justified in breaking your promises to them because your bad treatment served as a tacit disclaimer of any forthcoming promises, regardless of whether this was communicated overtly or whether the recipient of the bad treatment was aware that he was being treated badly, which, according to all accounts of the meetings between Wes and Plague, HE WASN'T!!

So, Wes and Plague are hanging out at a bar in Winnipeg. They're getting along fine. No altercations, no fights, nothing amiss. During this apparent amity -- and Wes would later admit to having perceived the outing as nothing other than amicable -- Wes asks to take a photograph of Plague, promising that she won't make it public.

Plague reluctantly agrees, but wait...!!

What Plague has failed to realize is that he should have been perceiving Wes's behavior during this outing as duplicitous and malevolent, and thus deduced that her word would be no good and that she was not to be trusted. (and, Plague has since cast blame on himself for having trusted the word of Wes, even in this amicable setting.)

But, why would Plague think such a thing, when in the midst of a social event which, by all accounts, was civil and cordial? Uhh...

And, why would a hypothetical person, who mistreats another, be then justified in further mistreating that person -- going back on her word to him -- only by virtue of having mistreated him to begin with?? Uhh...

And, why would a person who believes that treating people badly justifies further treating them badly not simply be regarded by sensible, fair-minded people as "an asshole?"

WHY????.......

You're traveling through another dimension -- a dimension not only of sight and sound, but of mind. A journey into a wondrous land whose boundaries are that of imagination. That's a signpost up ahead: your next stop: the Twilight Zone.

I don't care.

I mean, I've never asked Plague to keep his promise he made to Sword about not banning in the room they co-managed.

See above.

By the way, this isn't true. I don't recall promising - Sword doesn't recall me promising...yet, on another thread I can recall what dish Plague ordered and what clothes I wore? While Plague....can't.

Odd, isn't it? Two out of three people, who proved they recalled more about each evening than the third person can, maintain nothing was promised.

So, now you're not holding Plague to his promise.

Well, good. That makes a lot more sense.

No more whining about being banned from the chatroom, then.

No more barely-suppressed protestations and cries of "sore loser," by those who have, themselves, lost something.

Fair is fair.

This is between the three of you. You all seemed to agree that Wes said she wouldn't make public the photograph. Whether or not that amounts to a promise is not an issue that I care to argue.

OKay.. I was in using kent's account this morning.. or (gibbke) and plague said. that no one had been banned except for laby for posting some pedophilic pic.. or some such shit.

So logged out.. and logged in as me
and guess what

I still can't get in.

When I came back in as kent and posted it. Plague suddenly got "busy".

It annoys me that he's playing the "I didn't ban them" line. Sure he did. He thought everyone was so desperate to get in we'd take the images down. Oh well.. that backfired didn't it?
Yes. I am talking about you. Fuckstick.

who's whining?

LOL.. do you have any idea how hilarious this is for most of us? When I found out I couldn'd stop laughing.

It's amusing to see him try and get the images taken down.. working like a little secret squirrel in heels and a tiara .. so that it all looks like poor little plaguey poo is the victim.

I'm thinking of doing a new avatar.. this time.. i'll make sure to have you featured cyg. -_-
Yes. I am talking about you. Fuckstick.

Fair enough.... only.... by plague's perception a promise koril made was broken so he breaks one to... me??? BTW, Koril and I are seperate people. Just thought I'd point that out.

And this I do understand, however plague stated his position on "promises" very clearly. If he goes back on his own position, then what he feels koril did to him becomes null and void. THIS is the very reason why I don't think he would purposefully ban anyone from the chatroom. I actually also think this based on countless hours of conversation where I got to hear first hand his outlook on these sorts of things.

No. That isn't what I am saying at all. I am saying that Koril's arguement does not apply here. Koril argued that she made an assurance, promise, whatever to what she considered to be a friend at the time. That friend later claimed he never even liked her, thus koril feels that the person she made the promise to changed.

What I am saying, is that koril's argument can not be applied because I WAS the manager of the room and even in retrospect that can't change.

I did not say anything about one relationship being more valuable than another--don't put words in my mouth.

Vice versa. If plague feels koril should be bound to her word, then he must feel he should be bound to his. How would it prove his point to stoop to her "level"? It wouldn't--it would proove her point. He won't do that.

What I am about to say may confuse you (this seems to happen to you very easily) into thinking that I am sticking up for plague... but I'm not....

You sound like a male version of deb or laby.

Not just now, I never have. He didn't make any promises to me.

Also, please show exactly where I have been "whining" about being banned? You seem desperate to avenge Plague somehow by pointing out all the flaws in my posts, so if you could please demonstrate where you've gotten these ideas, that would be great.

Thanks.

WhoreSores, you need some better material.

Its clear you're busting for a fight since plague left, and sure, why not pick me, as it clear i think you're a useless excuse for a person, but honestly...you really need to try a little harder.

If you're spoiling for a fight, at least bring something worth considering fighting over.
