Puppet figurehead?

The US President has a lot of power. He's not a puppet, unless you consider Bush as an isolated case being "controlled" by the Neo-cons, Cheney, et al.

One of the principal reasons he makes such a good republican president is how easy he is to control. He's not a character you can imagine thinking "do I have all the facts here or am I being mislead by my advisers?"

Golf and BBQs are his interests, not the many tiered complexities of international politics. He's a simple guy which makes him likeable and unassuming to the public. Your average 'straight down the middle' kind of guy. Sure he's stupid but his heart is in the right place, etc.

You don't actively put an idiot forward as potential leader unless you want someone you can manipulate. Otherwise, why fund the campaign? The idea that he's actually in charge, a law unto himself, is comical.

Of course, the people who've been part of the GW Bush Administration claim that he's not controlled by the Neo-cons or anyone else. They claim that he really is "the decider."

(Is that not the funniest quote of any president in recent memory -- "I'm the decider.")

However, your assessment is true enough, as far as I'm concerned.
