As the last trial is completed and the runes are activated, the etched lines in the stone that formed the arcane circle begin to surge with a bright orange flame. Originating from the runes, it follows the lines until the entire circle is emblazoned. The flames grow as the circle turns into a sea of fire melting the ice around you and repelling the spirits. The ground begins to shake slightly, as the runes grow brighter, shining beams of red light into the sky and piercing the dark clouds that Eiszhan had been in. A burst of flames erupts upwards as a large, fiery Phoenician spirit squeezes itself up and through the circle. Clearing the portal, it lets out a piercing battle-cry that shakes you at your core and sends several of the ice spirits fleeing. It lifts up, taking flight as dozens of lesser fire spirits pour out after it and chase the ice spirits. You watch as they overtake their prey and make quick work of them, burning them and their immediate surroundings to the ground in mounds of soggy ash.

The phoenix flies toward Harbinger first, in an attempt to disrupt Eiszhan’s conduit of mana. Harbinger tries to launch a counter-offensive, flinging ice spears, mana bolts, and power bolts at the phoenix but to no avail. The flaming bird pressed on towards him. In an act of desperation, Harbinger formed his ice sword out of ice particles in the air and siphoned blood through it in attempt to bolster his efforts. He raised it to make an attack at the oncoming bird, but he was too slow. The phoenix plucked him out of the sky with his beak, and with one fluid motion snapped Harbinger like an annoying twig. His broken body fell down to the surface, his icy wings melting on the way down. He didn’t struggle. He didn’t move. He simply crashed into the cobblestone street and shattered on impact.

The Phoenix let out another cry. By now most of the island had been engulfed in flames, the city at the center where you stood seemed to be the last remaining bastion of safety. As the phoenix called and the rest of the fire spirits rose up to join him, their movement brought a strong wind that fueled the flames burning. The flames around you rose up, and the wind began to blow away the clouds that concealed Eiszhan. You could finally see the spirit for what it was. Eiszhan was nothing but the bones and rotted flesh of a western Great Dragon, preserved and held together by the ice that hung as sickles from his putrid form. He let out a roar, followed by a volley of ice breath toward the flame spirits encroaching on him. Some of the lesser forms were disrupted, but they pressed on. The phoenix retaliated with a flame breath that melted a section of Eiszhan’s rib cage as the lesser spirits began to swarm him.

You notice Izana standing near you. Her form is haggard, merely skin and bones that appeared to be melting away in a similar fashion. She wore a faint smile on her face as she traced a line in thin air before pulling it open to reveal an astral rift. She looks to you and says “Thank you all, for everything. Now please, it’s dangerous here. You should go.”

You take one final look at the battle raging on above your head as the phoenix tears into Eiszhan’s neck and the beast looks as though it might lose its ability to remain airborne soon. Then you step into the rift, and everything is dark.

You awake to find yourselves in guest beds at Patrizio’s mansion. Checking the date, it’s been two weeks since the battle in the metaplane. Patrizio tells you that KE happened upon your unconscious bodies in the middle of downtown Seattle and thanks to a detective Athack, Patrizio was able to intercept you before they put you in lockup for whatever violations they might be inclined to find at the time.

Scanning the screamsheets and Horizon NewsNet, you’re able to piece together what had happened. Patrizio’s men had been able to derail the train close to Seattle as a last resort, thanks to the advance warning from Kharna. KE stormed the wreckage and secured the warheads before they could fall into the wrong hands, and turned them over to UCAS officials when they arrived on-scene a few hours later. Around the time the phoenix had entered Eiszhan’s plane the clouds above Seattle had begun to violently thunder, only to disperse about an hour later.

After leaving San Francisco, the Ex-Los Muertos gunslinger Jesse McClure made her way up to Seattle to assist the mafias with dismantling what was left of the Neo-Misfit operation. She was able to pinpoint cells that had remained hidden, and help flush out the rest that had since relocated. Sarah, the changling, had decided to repay Patrizio and enjoy his protection from Pensadyne a little longer by learning the trade, and was able to get some live-fire training in during the cleanup. Billy got the bulk of gear that was seized from the raids, and happily distributed it to the mafia and other street contacts, all the while lining his pockets with a healthy supply of nuyen and boosting his cred as a fixer.

Gabe spent most of his time these days in the bars, enjoying a little break from shadow work. He and Venny had made quite the killing doing work from Patrizio and were taking a little R&R. As for Venny, he had left some time while you were unconscious, saying something about going to see a readhead down in the Caribbean League who thought she was being slick.

The Misfits were gone. Joey was dead. Project Frozen Phoenix and Eiszhan’s plans had been foiled. It was time for you to decide what to do next. A little R&R for yourselves was always an option. Maybe take a little vacation, or just stay home for a week and catch up on a couple seasons of the latest crazes on TridFlix. But if the peaceful life isn’t your style there’s always more work in the shadows chummers, and plenty of Johnsons who would love to have your talents on their payroll.

Just remember: watch your back, shoot straight, conserve ammo, and never, ever, cut a deal with a dragon.
