The three keys of role-play. The three rules we shall cover in this topic are vital for you to know and understand. They are a massive part of any type of role-play and I will try my best to explain them to you. The rules will shall be studying and covering are the following; meta-gaming; power-gaming and revenge-killing. These are often abbreviated to MG, PG and RK. Meta-gaming. Firstly we shall look at meta-gaming (MG). This is easy enough to understand and it is important that you follow this. Meta-game is when you information you have obtained out of character (OOC) in character (IC). For example; if my in-game (IG) child was murdered by "Pete" and I was told by my child what "Pete" did on MSN, Skype etcetera and then proceeded to extract my revenge on "Pete" stating that as my reason to kill him, I would of meta-gamed the information. I would of broken a rule and been striked or even banned. Power-gaming. Now, basically power-gaming (PG) is when you do things that are just humanely impossible such as flying. However, there is another type of power-game that is not enforced nor do many people know about it. It is stating another character's actions and not allowing him to role-play a character based reaction. For example. (PLAYER1): *Player #1 punches Player #2 in the face.* (PLAYER1): *Player #2 falls onto the ground.* Player #1 power-gamed here by stating the other players action. The correct method he should of used is. (PLAYER1): *Player #1 punches Player #2 in the face.* (PLAYER1): *Does this cause Player #2 to collapse?* (PLAYER2): *Player two would then respond.* If Player #1 did what I showed in the first scenario he would of been striked and maybe banned. Revenge-killing. This rule is pretty much self-explanatory. Once you have been killed by someone you cannot go back IG on your new character or after you death sentence has been served and kill the person that killed you. Once you die, you basically start fresh, your memory would be wiped clean and you would not be able to re-call any of the events that happened before you died. Anyone caught doing this shall be striked or perhaps even banned. I hope this helped and gave you a better understanding of what you should be doing. |
