Viridian City is a bustling little city that caters to tourism and the outsider. To the east lies a road that leads to the Indigo Plateau and the only reliable footpath connecting Kanto and Johto. To the south lies a road to the renown but quiet Pallet town, and the north leads to Viridian Forest, Diglett Cave, and the rock hard Pewter City. They also posess one of the toughest gyms in the region and the headquarters for the Kanto Pokemon Contest branch, where the pokemon contest finals are held. Their pokemon center is used as a starting point for many trainers, and they have a well known pokemon school in their city that teaches youngsters about the basics of living with pokemon and battling. For these reasons, pokemon trainers often pass through and the residents welcome them. Pokemon in the Area: Psyduck (roaming)(uncommon) between the levels of 3 and 6. Rattatas (roaming)(uncommon) between the levels of 3 and 6. Poliwag (roaming)(rare) between the levels of 3 and 6. Pikachu (roaming)(extremely rare) between the levels of 5 and 7. Magikarp (fishing)(common) between the levels of 5 and 9. Poliwag (fishing)(uncommon) between the levels of 1 and 6. Psyduck (fishing)(uncommon) between the levels of 3 and 6. Slopoke (fishing)(extremely rare) between the levels of 6 and 7. Residences and Shops This is the small, teeming area that lies between the pokemon center and Contest Arena to the south and the gym and trainer's school in the north. It is filled with residential houses, small shops and cafes, cornerstores, even a movie theater, and generally the sort of things trainers can't afford or wouldn't be interested in. Somewhere here is rumored to be a very old expert on catching pokemon who can advise you on all sorts of techniques. People travel from all sorts of places to ask his advice on catching anything from normal to rare pokemon, but he may be a little hard to find. While it may not be a necessary stop on a trainer's journey, the 'town proper' of Viridian City is certainly due a walk through for the visitor or maybe the rich trainer looking to kick back for a bit. Normally, though, people just pass through unless they live here. There's a small park with a playground in the center. The pokemart sits at the southern end of the district, between the pokemon center and the arena.
Pokemon Center and the PAT Tower Viridian City's pokemon center is on the southern end of the city right near the entrance. Its a large complex, known throughout the region for its knowledgable staff; they care for a lot of pokemon, as Viridian is sometimes one of the busiest cities for pokemon trainers in the entire Kanto Region. Its three of four stories tall with appealing circular architecture. When you enter there's a small entrance room with some standard, simple couches that look inviting. A large desk curves out in a half-moon shape from the wall of the room opposite the door. Behind it, one of the many human attendants of the pokemon center stands ready to take your pokemon and heal their ills, or simply take them for a checkup. The pokemon center also functions as a Trainer hotel. The upper levels are available rooms that trainers can use for free during their travels, and a cafeteria serves free breakfast for trainers and pokemon center attendents. Other meals are charged, however. A flat space on the roof of the center allows for PAT (Pokemon Alliance Transport) Air pokemon to land, so the pokemon center serves as Vermilion City's PAT tower. You can purchase any PAT fare you want from the attendant at the counter on the first floor. PCs are conveniently placed throughout the building for trainer use. They serve as vidphones, and allow you to access e-mail and the internet. A few machines in the first floor waiting room also have a Transfer Machine, which digitizes and transports your extra pokemon to a storage box at Bill's MegaHabitat, or retrieves them by logging in with your trainer ID.
Pokemon Contest Headquarters Here is the grand arena where the final competitions of the pokemon contests are held. It is a large edifice to the far southeastern end of Viridian City, a few blocks away from the pokemon center. The arena is open in the cieling and twice as large as any pokeon contest arena in the region. Its wide center space is perfect for mock battles, and seats are all around the whole arena. Very few seats have a poor view. The seats are covered in weather resistant cushions. A counter at the main southern entrance is used to register participants. An attendant will tell you that you can't compete unless you have won ribbons from the previous contests. However, you can register for the contest league here so you can participate in the smaller contests later down the road. The Finals Contest is held once a year for a 3 day period, so normally the stadium isn't used for contesting. Sports events are often held here in the off season of contests. Registration costs 1 pk$ (the price for the Contest ID). Entrance tickets for a contest is 5 pk$ each. Trainer's School This is a decently sprawling set of buildings, small window-lit classrooms and a large open field behind it and a large, shallow pond surrounded by trees behind that. The pond has a sign that says "No Swimming, No Fishing! You know the rules!" The whole place is just south of the rise upon which the Viridian Gym sits. During the day, children can be heard coming here from the residential district to the south. the pond and field are used for battles but don't show any scars, proof of the unskilled trainers who use it. A sign posted on the wall lists some basic rules common to a school, and one that reads "No climbing up the rise to the old Gym." Inside there are classrooms where young minds are taught the basics of training. A guide can be obtained from the main office to show you around and answer any questions about training the passing trainer might have. Their goal is to help trainers be the best they can, so that pokemon are trained and treated properly in their care. They're not afraid to answer any questions and will do it happily, and many trainers often stop by to observe a lesson or two on their way through Viridian City. They may not be able to answer really difficult questions, though: their focus is mostly on the basics, and on teaching you how understand your pokemon's needs. Viridian Gym OOC Note This gym sits above a small ridge of land at the north end of Viridian City, just off of the main North-south road. Viridian city is very green and everyone loves to grow vibrant gardens, but this place looks overgrown and unkempt. A thin path with the depression of many booted feet leads to the entrance. A sign on the door says "Do not enter, unless you are certain you can win against the shadows of the earth." Inside it is dark, and difficult to see. Many trainers will try to block your path. They are clad in dark clothes and even their genders are difficult to tell. They tend to be frightfully strong. If you can't defeat them, you certainly can't defeat the gym leader. At the end of the room (its quite dark...you have no idea how big it is or how tall it is) stands a young, red-haired man in his early 20s. He dresses in a sharp suit, has long red hair pulled back in a neat ponytail, and has a red moustache. He stands in a spotlight on a raised platform, waiting to see if you have what it takes to reach him. Giovanni Giovanni is a powerful man who uses ground pokemon. He recently inherited the gym from a previous owner, but has swiftly become known as one of the strongest trainers in the region. He is very haughty and polite to a fault. It is known that he doesn't feel ashamed of showing his respect for those he deems to have true strength as trainers. He has very little patience for those who do not.
