Saffron City has always been a thriving metropolis, but over the years it has expended and begun to spill out into the area around this. Thankfully, the big business centers of Saffron remain firmly grounded in the middle of the massive city, and instead this spillover has taken on a sort of suburban semblance, with individualized suburbs located at all the compass directions, near the opening of the primary routes into Saffron.

Each of the routes is marked by a checkpoint building. The buildings, previously individual buildings, have been built much taller and now stand as part of a large wall that surrounds Saffron, forcing individuals who wish to gain entrance to do so by walking -- or driving -- through these checkpoints and out into the city proper.

Of course, this wall was not built just to be a wall around a city; in fact, the wall is actually an extended track upon which glides the Saffron City Monorail System, a public transit system that carries individuals from one checkpoint to another. Sprinkled throughout the city are monorail stops at various places of interested, and from each of these primary stops one can then enter onto a small monorail and ride to one of these other locations. The most commonly used stops along the monorail system within the town include Sabrina's Gym, Silph Co, the Contest Hall, and the Arena.

Suburbs

The suburbs of Saffron are mostly gated communities that exist on either side of the routes near Saffron City. However, despite being gated communities, most of the suburban areas will welcome transient trainers, with the one opening toward Cerulean in particular actually containing the Daisy Mae Inn, a hotel for Pokemon trainers to stay the night for free. The other three suburban communities tend to have significantly smaller, unofficial lodgings, which causes most people to stay at the Daisy Mae, mostly thanks to word-of-mouth about its lovely arrangements for such a good price (that is, free).

Pokemon Center

The Saffron City pokemon center is a huge affair. The large structure sits to the south of town between the Southern and Western entrances to the city. A large main structure operates like an intensive long term care hospital, complete with an emergency room and some very high tech medical facilities. Two wings to either side of the main structure house passing trainers, one to the west for males and one to the east for females. Three stories of rooms, complete with two twin beds and a shared bathroom with the neighbor's room, are what both wings are composed of.

A simple breakfast is mass produced in the hospital for free for any trainer with an injured pokemon, or for 5 pk$ for other visitors. All other meals are 5 pk$ regardless of the trainer's pokemon's status.

Fighting Dojo

This place is renown as one of the best places in the world to study and practice martial arts. Humans and pokemon spar with one another and various forms of martial arts from all regions are studied and mastered on these floors.

There was once a great rivalry between the Saffron Gym (the larger building next door) and Black Belt Kiyo's Fighting Dojo, however that is long past. The Dojo also has close association with the Cianwood Gym in johto

Black Belt Kiyo

The leader of the gym, Kiyo is happy to test the mettle of anyone who wishes to battle him in an effort to promote the superiority of fighting type pokemon and fighting arts. He looks to be about 60 or 70 now, but he'll still wipe the floor with almost anyone. His youthful energy has been turned into a calm self-control

After losing the rights to be Saffron City's League Gym, Kiyo took a sabbatical and journeyed to train in many remote part of the world. He returned about 10 years ago to resume the Dojo with new enthusiasm. Its rumored he and Sabrina still have the occasional spar, however, but what's left of the rivalry is entirely friendly.

As far as anyone else knows.

The Magnet Train Station

This station is one of the many stops of the elevated rail line that runs all over Saffron, but the main station is on the northwestern side of the city and has a large building where many trains come and go. Here you can take a train to Johto for the affordable price of 200 pk$. You can also buy a pass to travel the tramway around the rest of Saffron for 2 pk$ a day, or to the sister station in Celadon for 10 pk$.

Several counters greet you when you walk in the revolving glass doors. The building itself is 2 stories of vaulted cielings with a second floor slightly back from the front of the building, blocked off by a security guarded staircase preventing access to anyone without a pass. From there you can board the trains.

The entire front of the building is glass, a central round lobby with wings to either side, facing south. artwork from local artists is frequenly on display in the lobby and an interesting glass chandelier, its pieces carved like spearow and arranged to look like a flock in flight, hangs above the central part of the lobby.

Corporate HQs.

The downtown area of Saffron is filled with skyscrapers in a multitude of shapes and architechtural styles. Many corporations own or rent their headqaurters in these offices, including the notable Silph Co. The lower levels of all the buildings are typically rented out as shopfronts and small tourist attractions and descriptive corporate lobbies, and the upper levels are offlimits to the average passerby. walking downtown is certainly by far a very interesting way to spend an afternoon.

Pokemon League Trainer's Fanclub

Due to the uncomparable wealth of having two pokemon gyms in one town, Saffron is a mecca for those members of League regions who choose to observe pokemon battles rather than participate in them. By and large this is most of the population of people who might be considered 'trainers' in that they own pokemon, but do not take part in any league challenges.

It might come to the surprise of many trainers, but whenever they battle a Gym leader their visible team roster is recorded and put into a PC database. Many battles are also video recorded, in part or in full. Pokemon battle fans from across the world acess this database and follow favorite trainers throughout their career.

A small section of one of the downtown buildings is rented by the Chairman of the fanclub for use as the Kanto fanclub HQ. It also doubles as a coffee shop. Feeds of interesting battles are occasionally put up on the big screens around the room, and during the annual League tournament people come here to watch if they can't afford to make it to the stands on their own. Its a great place for pokemon enthusiasts to show off their pokemon and admire other's.

A subset of the group are also fans of pokemon contestors.

Pokemon Contest Hall 3

This is the contest hall where the third pokemon contest of the year is held. These contests are run every quarter. The first is run in Cerulean City, the second in Fuschia, and this is the third. Competitor's here who earn enough points to pass into the final round will travel to Viridian City in a few months for the final contest of the year.

The contest hall is long and rectangular, 4 stories tall with various open levels above the main floor where contestors and observers perform the various competitions of the contesting racket. A desk at the opening serves as ticketing during competition and registration during off times. You can practice routines in the arena when there are no active competitions running.

Registration to compete is 1 pk$ (The price of teh contest ID)

Entrance tickets to observe the contests is 5 pk$

Sabrina's Gym
Sabrina's Gym has been with Saffron for ages, as has Sabrina and her hoarde of psychics. The gym, however, is younger than the dojo it sits next to (and dwarfs), but has gained a reputation for being a sigh more powerful, thanks to the leader's propensity for using psychic Pokemon flawlessly.

With both herself and her Pokemon well-versed in their psychic abilities, she has the ability to deliver commands without speaking them, allowing her Pokemon to react almost instantly to her thoughts while her opponents are left wondering whether she's even instructing her Pokemon at all.
