Heading from Lavender to Fuschia is a long but interesting trek. The whole event is basically one long road winding south along or over the coast and curving west where necessary until it cuts across some forest and hills to run into Fuschia's eastern edge. A good 3rd of the trek is the lengthy and amazing Silence Bridge, a route many people walk on their way to pay a visit to Soul Sanctum in Lavender, which could be the cause of its name...or it could be the waves rolling silently beneath the planks. Is stretches along a part of the coast full of strange rock spires rising from the earth. The bridge navigates strange curves, hills, and meanderings as it actually is supported mostly on these natural structures with very few cnstructed support pylons sinking into the waves below. Though the water beneath is actively churning with tidal forces, it is kept mostly quiet by the miles of similar spires stretching to the sea in the east. Only small one or two person watercraft navigate the area, everything else must stay well out to sea. The bridge itself is massive in construction, capable of serving as a 4 lanes of vehicular traffic in an emergency. Mostly wood, with some spots of concrete landings and some points where it touches accessible areas of land in the cliffs to the west being the exceptions. The bridge is sturdy and well maintained by financial forces in the richer cities to the northwest, Vermilion and Saffron especially – it is a valued route of access for both cities. Silence Bridge runs into Lavender Town in the north and meets the mainland in a small fishing village in the south. There is a point at which the bridge meets the cliff midway through and provides access to Rte 11 and Vermilion City as well. Old Fields [Rte 13] These were once profitable farmland areas south of the massive forest breaking Vermilion from Fuschia and enclosing the Safari Zone. The run west-east along the coast and atop the cliffs bordering the sea. However, for some reason the land was abandoned long ago by the owners and has now lain fallow for some time. Fields and fields of while weeds and grasses sprange up, cut apart by fences of all kinds; picket, barbed wire, wooden, chain-link. These are all that is left of the small farming community that once provided a lot of food for the region. Young trees are beginning to reclaim the area from the forest to the north. It takes approximately 5 hours to cross the fallow fields on foot, partially due to navigating the maze of land-claim border markings, or what remains of them. The Farm Road [Rtes 14 and 15] South of the fields a well-paved road runs along the cliffs, with some more empty fields occasionally dotting the landscape to the west. Its a very scenic walk that takes about 30-45 minutes. It runs into the southern forest and heads west towards Fuschia, a significantly longer walk at about 4 hours on a paved road that winds back and forth around some hilly landscape. Fishing Village It would hardly be safe to call this a village, its basically three run down fishing huts and one small cabin-like bed and breakfast, sitting on an island 2/3rds of the way down Silence Bridge from the Lavender side. The bridge passes over the island but a staircase leads down to the island and provides access for the fishermen to reach Silence bridge and fish off its low points. The bed and breakfast seems to have no name, the owner a big burly fisherman named Kraig who is never around at sunrise or sunset – he usually serves more of a brunch than a breakfast, and his meals are always fish. Overnight stay is pricy, at 20pk$ a night, but the twin beds in the cabin's loft are comfortable. |
