Kuro helped Joe up, saying "No problem," in response to Joe's 'thanks', glad the other boy seemed to be okay. "So that one's a Fire type," he thought, as the flames disappeared from the Pokémon's back as she hurried to apologize to her trainer. Tsuki was back on her feet by now, and ran to the two boys' side, still suppressing snickers that shook the front half of her body. Kuro send a stop-that look in her direction, which made her sit down with both front paws on her mouth, trying to compose herself. Knowing she was at least trying, Kuro's gaze went back to Joe, who was introducing himself to the peculiar Professor. "And I'm Kurohane Higure, from Unova, but people just call me Kuro," he said when Joe had finished, copying the action of the other boy as he too bowed his head in greeting. "This is my Zorua, Tsukiyomi," he continued, slightly moving his hand in the direction of the Dark-type, who yipped a "Zo!" in greeting, eyes closed with a smirk on her face. "We're just starting too," he added, smiling insecurely. He then listened as the Professor talked, not quite sure of what to do when the man's eyes traveled to the ceiling and he fell silent. It felt kind of awkward, but luckily Joe snapped him back to reality and asked for the Pokémon they'd be encountering. "That was a good idea," he thought, eyes going back to focus on the Professor. Since it would be their first Route, it'd be better to be informed after all. While he was listening, Tsuki got bored and poked her friend Cyndaquil, trying to convince her to set something on fire for fun. "Stop it," Kuro whispered to his Pokémon, who huffed and poked the Fire-type again before following the retreating Professor. The dark-haired trainer left it at that and started walking behind his Pokémon to keep her in his sight at all times. "Do you think Route 1 is going to be difficult?" he asked the other trainer in a low tone. If Littlelife was considered a good place to start, then the Pokémon around it should be at low levels, but he wasn't 100% sure of that. "I'll have to ask if there's somewhere to heal Pokémons in this town just in case," he thought. |

As Cyndaquil was being poked by Tsuki who was trying to convince her to light something on fire, Cyndaquil shook her head in a no motion and explained to the Zorua that she can't control and that they only appear when she is startled. She began running up front with the Zorua while Joseph and Kuro follow the professor. "Cyndaquil don't go too far and don't touch anything." Joseph said as Cyndaquil heard him and slowed her pace a bit. "Pokemon can be really something. They can sometimes act like little kids and other times they can be the greatest supporters and friends you can have." the professor said while laughing a bit. Joseph heard the question Kuro asked him and he himself had wondered before arriving. "I don't think it should be that difficult, but I don't want to be too overconfident. I'm actually a bit worried... but I'm sure Cyndaquil and I will be able to handle anything that we encounter." Joseph whispered back to Kuro. The professor was explaining to them how they examine and study pokemon in here and how they have different scientist who is each specialized in their own matter. The professor stopped at the large glass window and pointed to the other side. At the other side Joseph saw two rectangular tables, and in one of them was a Shinx pokemon with cables attached to it and computer monitors displaying its vital signs. The pokemon looked healthy and happy as it was just laying on the table with it's eyes open, relaxed. "Here is where we monitor the status of the pokemon to see what changes there are. We usually bring them here right after a battle. That way we can see how a battle affects it and from that we can speculate and how many battles it can fight and what weaknesses it has." the professor explained as Joseph looked at the Shinx at the other side. "Wait so does that mean you battle pokemon here, professor." Joseph asked. "Well not us. Usually we have some volunteer trainers battle it out on our little arena outside and after that we treat their pokemon and give them some of the information we got from the fight." The professor explained. "I see" The four of them kept following the professor to one of the doors in the hallway, when he opened it Joseph saw a medium sized room with 4 desk at each corner and a large rectangular vase in the middle with some vases and test tubes on it. The professor walked over to his desk at the other side of the room as Joseph followed him. "Now just give me a minute and I will print out the list about the pokemon you will encounter on route 1." The professor said as he got on his computer and started typing. For the moment Joseph looked around his desk noticing a couple of awards Prof. Barry had on his desk. It seemed he was a really good scientist. But in that moment Joseph did not pay attention to Cyndaquil and Zorua who had gotten themselves up into the rectangular table with the vases and test tubes. They were about to cause a lot of trouble for them.... (I'll let you post the mayhem those two will cause) |

Kuro smiled at Joseph's answer, red eyes glancing at the Professor as he started to speak again. "Must be nice to feel so confident," he thought, red orbs drifting to the back of his Pokémon, who was following Cyndaquil earnestly. His left hand tightened on the strap that crossed his chest, attention shifting back to the explaining man as he opened one of the doors for them, leading them inside. There was a hallway with a large glass panel that divided it from the room at the other side, where a small, blue cat-like Pokémon with black fur on its hind legs and tail was relaxing on a table, curious yellow eyes matching the color of a star on its tail and the insides of its round ears. "Wonder what kind of Pokémon it is," he thought, listening to the Professor's explanation as Tsuki stood on her hind paws to try to look trough the glass panel, huffing when she couldn't and choosing to jump multiple times instead, flailing her paws at the height of each jump in a try to stay in the air longer. Kuro chuckled a little at that as he looked at the machines that were attached to the cat-like Pokémon by cables, which were spilling out readings through green monitors. By now, the Zorua had already grown bored and was scratching her ear with one of her hind paws in typical dog fashion, stopping after a while to follow the older man as he explained about the battles they studied and kept moving down the hallway. They soon arrived at a room that seemed to be their destination, as the Professor asked them to wait for a moment while checking on his computer. Kuro followed the other two, looking in awe at all the trinkets and awards. "Feel free to take your time, and many thanks for helping us with this," Kuro said, truly grateful that the man was doing them that favor. Tsuki saw her trainer distracted and took the chance, containing her snickers as she jumped on top of the big rectangular table that decorated the center of the room. She sniffed at the weird objects displayed in it, some of them full with different-colored liquids, most of them with a cork to prevent their contents from spilling. She pawed the desk, displeased at the fact that metal furniture couldn't catch fire, until she noticed Cyndaquil had climbed onto the table too and was looking around. Turning to make sure that her trainer wasn't paying attention yet, she smirked and resumed the game she wanted to play with the Fire-type when they first met. Meaning she jumped and pounced the unsuspecting Pokémon without a care of what happened to the delicate objects on the table. "Nonsense, I asked if I could help you so I'm helping-" the Professor started to say, before the noise of shattering glass resonated through the room. Kuro immediately turned and watched in horror as the two Pokémons rolled on the table, each trying to overpower the other and pushing more things to the ground, making the glass containers shatter and spill their contents, liquids mixing in the ground. "Tsuki!" he nearly yelled, as the two playmates rolled too much to the left and fell to the ground with a thud, surprising the Cyndaquil enough for the flames on her back to come to life again. The Zorua yipped loudly as the fire activated near her, and ran off like a rocket towards a random direction, hitting one of the legs of a table at full speed and making everything that had been neatly ordered on top either fall to their sides or to the ground, creating more noise amidst the "Stop them! They're going to hurt themselves!" that the distressed Professor was shouting. All this unwanted, loud noises startled the Fire-type enough to make her bolt in the first direction she saw, which happened to be where the three humans were. Her trainer located, she tried to turn abruptly, skidding on the ground and hitting the desk where the man had been at with her side, paws moving furiously as she made a beeline towards the red-haired boy, back still burning strongly. The Professor yelped and bolted to save the computer that was falling to the ground due to the hit, managing to catch it, but throwing a large pile of papers to the ground, where some of them caught fire because of the startled Cyndaquil, as Kuro shouted a "Watch out!" to Joe, running to try to start putting the fires out before something more important started to burn, and Tsuki walked dizzy in zig-zags across the room because of the hit on her head, slipping on the spilled liquids and scattering the crystal shards everywhere. All in all, total mayhem. Edited by PureDark006, Feb 11 2012, 10:09 AM.

Joseph was busy looking through the awards and trying to make it out what they were for, until he heard the first big shattering noise of the first vase. He turned around and could only watch in shock as he saw Cyndaquil and the Zorua pouncing at each other on top of the table breaking glasses and making a mess of the whole place. It was the first time Cyndaquil had done something like that and for a moment Joseph didn't know what to say, until he saw his Cyndaquil fall to the ground and start running through the room with her back on fire again, while Tsuki was running around scared and dazed by the hit she took. "Cyndaquil stop!!!!" Joseph yelled at her, but that just caused her to locate him. Still startled by all that was happening she began running at the three humans while on fire. If Joseph didn't do something all three of them could get hurt 'Ummm, what do I do?! what do i do?! what do I do?!?!?! POKEBALL!!!' Joseph thought. He grabbed the small pokeball from the right side of his belt and pressed the middle button to make it larger, while Cyndaquil had just tripped and hit the desk causing the papers to fall and burn. He almost lost the grip on it with all the commotion, but was able to recover the ball from the air, "Got it!" Joseph said, but was then startled when he heard Kuro shout out to him. Joseph looked and his fiery Cyndaquil was just a few feet from him. "RETURN!" Joseph said as he pointed the pokeball toward Cyndaquil, a red beam came out and engulfed the fiery pokemon causing her to be back inside the pokeball and stopping her from causing anymore damage to the room and the people in the room. Joseph didn't have time to relax as he joined Kuro to put out the papers that were on fire by stepping on them constantly. After the bits of fire were out Joseph looked around at the destruction that their pokemon had just caused. He had no words to describe how sorry he was for what he had just caused. The professor remained in silence after it was all over, it seemed like he didn't know how to react. He began looking through some of the papers that were burnt to try and figure out what was just lost. "Prof. Barry! I'm very sorry for this! Please forgive my Cyndaquil for this since she did not mean to cause all of this she was just trying to have fun. I'll be sure to properly teach her how to behave. So please let me repay you for this. I don't have much money but I'm sure we can work something out." Joseph said as he bowed his head in forgiveness. "Now now you don't have to worry about it too much. Like I said pokemon are like children sometimes. You don't have to repay anything." The professor said trying to laugh it off. At least he was a really good person not to get angry with them or their pokemon. "I cant accept that. There must be something I can do or I will feel guilty for this. Please." Joseph said trying to see if they can work something out. He wasn't the kind of guy who would take the easy way out while other people suffer for it. The professor looked back again at the papers he had in his hand and looked back at the two boys with a smile on his face. "Well their is one you could help me with. Follow me to our backyard. And bring your pokemon with you." The professor said as he walked outside of the office. He called for someone and in a moment there were 3 guys infront him, they were janitors. Prof. Barry had called them so they could clean the broken shards on the floor. "Follow me you two." |

Kuro sighed in relief as the fire was put out with the help of Joseph, Cyndaquil already safe in her Pokéball while Tsuki was harmlessly on her side in the pool of liquids, still disoriented. That relief faded away rather quickly when he saw the general state of the room, though. Most of the glass containers were broken, either on the table or on the ground, the liquids within completely spilled and soaking up on the black fur of the Pokémon laying on them. One of the tables in the corners wasn't in better shape, all the writing utensils and books in it out of order, with some of the pens and pencils having fallen to the previously pristine floor and spilled through that part of the room, two of the wooden tools broken while two bottles of ink had made twin puddles of black near one of the legs of the table. The two Pokémons' footprints were everywhere, and though they had managed to save the computer (he didn't want to begin imagining how much one of those would cost), at least one third of the scattered papers were ruined, either burned unintentionally by the Fire-type or too wet to repair because of falling near the spilled liquids. He started picking some of those up, the ones that could still be saved, a feeling of dread slowly creeping up his spine. The Professor had been nice enough to them, and they had basically repaid him by destroying a whole room. He didn't even know how to begin apologizing for such a level of destruction. "Professor I'm so sorry I'm sure it was Tsuki's fault she never thinks about what she does and I'm sure she wasn't doing it on purpose but I'm so sorry and I wish there was some way of repaying you" he started saying, talking faster by the second until it was like all the words were jumbled together, as Joseph had also started apologizing at the same time. "Now now you don't have to worry about it too much. Like I said pokemon are like children sometimes. You don't have to repay anything," the Professor said, putting an end to both boys' apology. Kuro sheepishly placed the papers he had picked up on the table where the computer was, well away from the clean ones, as Joe insisted they did something to make up for the mess the two Pokémons had caused. The Professor seemed to consider it as he told them to follow him to the backyard with their Pokémons, calling three uniformed men who seemed to be in charge of cleaning before asking to be followed. Kuro took out Tsuki's Pokéball from his bag, returning the black fox to it; she was still too out of it to walk by herself, and picking her up could result in him getting cut by the shards of glass that were around her. It was a luck that only the Pokémon returned to the ball; she'd be safe there while she recovered. Though he'll need to have a serious talk with the Dark-type in the near future to prevent more accidents like this from happening. What if she made a mess out of a mart, where they'd have to pay for everything? He only had 2000P with him, it wouldn't be near enough if she was let loose near expensive items, much less if she was with another playmate like Cyndaquil. He followed the Professor with those thoughts in mind, not saying a word during the whole trip, Tsuki's Pokéball still being clutched by his hand. The kind man guided them through two hallways, before taking a turn and ushering them through a door that connected to the outside. There was a short dirt road that started right there and continued forward for a couple of meters, dividing itself into three opposite roads that headed right, left and forward, each one ending in a different terrain. The one of the left was mostly grass and plants, with some trees on one of the sides; the one in front had vast quantities of water forming two large, deep ponds, with muddy areas between them; and the one on the right was mostly sand and rocks, some of them bigger than a human. A tall fence separated the area with the terrains from the proper outside, borders flat to prevent injuries to flying Pokémon that may land on them to rest, looking as if it was there more to separate the lab grounds than to prevent entry to them. "This is it," the Professor said, taking the left road, towards the grassy area, hand waving to motion for the two boys to follow him. "You see, lads, some of the ruined papers contained battle information. Now don't you blame yourselves for it, what happened was no one's fault. However, you can help us recover some of the data by having a friendly Pokémon battle here so we can study it," he explained, signaling the terrain. "We have healing machines too, so once the battle ends, we'll heal your friends back to new, no wories," he added cheerfully, the chaos in the room forgotten and forgiven. "Battle?" Kuro repeating, alternating between looking at Joseph and at Tsuki's Pokéball. It would be his first battle against another trainer. He was excited, of course; being a good trainer was his goal, and they owned the Professor. But at the same time, he had to admit to himself that he was scared that he wasn't meant for it. So he clutched the Pokéball with both hands, maybe a little stronger than necessary, and looked at the other boy to see his reaction. Edited by PureDark006, Feb 11 2012, 02:45 PM.

As Joseph followed the professor outside, he thought that they would most likely be made to do some labor work. Joseph was a bit surprised by the backyard, it was a lot bigger than he had expected, and they could see a couple of pokemon roaming around freely. There were one or two scientist taking notes and feeding the pokemon but they didn't take much notice of them. Joseph continued to follow the professor as they reached their destination Joseph saw white lines on grass forming a rectangle with a line in the middle and a circle in the center that looked like a pokeball. It didn't take long to notice that this was a battle arena, "you can help us recover some of the data by having a friendly Pokemon battle here so we can study it," "Battle?!" Joseph said a bit surprised. He wasn't really expecting this as a form of repayment but it did make sense. He placed his right hand on his chin and closed his eyes, thinking about the situation. At that moment Josephs brain went into a train of thought. 'Is this really a solution to what we just did? I mean a battle, seriously. Are Cyndaquil and I even ready for a battle? No, if I don't do it now something may go wrong when I step outside and battle a random trainer, and there will be no one to help me there. The only place where I can afford to make a mistake is here and now... But is it ok to put Cyndaquil versus Tsuki? They just became friends and now they would have to battle. No, if I think about it they were kind of competing inside the lab, so they should see this as a friendly competition, which is what it is? But will Cyndaquil be alright.... No, I can't doubt her. I have to have faith in her and in myself.' Joseph opened his eyes and grabbed Cyndaquils pokeball from his belt, he looked at it for a few seconds smiling and then looked over to Kuro, who was looking at him. "Hey Kuro... Let's not hold back." Joseph said with a confident tone and a smile on his face. "This may be my first battle, but Cyndaquil and I won't go down easy." Joseph said with a confident tone, as he clinched his fist and pointed it to Kuro, as a sing of readiness to battle. |

Kuro smiled as he heard Joe's answer; truly, the other boy's confidence was contagious, and he could already feel that the doubts from earlier were disappearing. "Yeah... Let's do our best, the four of us," he said, nodding at the red-haired trainer, passing Tsuki's Pokéball to his left hand while the right one clenched to a fist and was raised in front of his chest. "It's so good to see you both accept," the Professor said, clasping both hands together in anticipation. "Ahh, the first Pokémon battle..." he said, eyes looking at the grassy arena without focusing on it, reminiscing the past. "Let's go," Kuro whispered to the ball containing his Pokémon, and walked towards the right side of the arena, pace a little faster than his normal walk. "A battle..." he thought, looking at the red-and-white container in his hand. He remembered how Tsuki and him had practiced her moves before setting off, but this would be the first time they tried it against a living, breathing opponent. "Leer... Lowers the defense of the opposing Pokémon, making it weaker against physical attacks... Pursuit... A Dark-type physical attack that deals double the damage if the opponent is switching out..." he thought, quickly reviewing Tsuki's two moves in his head, remembering what each one did as he stood in the spot marked for the trainer in the arena and he turned to face Joe. Since it was an one-on-one battle, he wouldn't be able to use Pursuit's full power, but the extra power that the move received because of Zorua's type would be useful. He pressed the small, white button in the center of the Pokéball, making it open and release a flash of white light that materialized the small Dark-type, standing in the arena in front of the dark-haired boy, smirking while she let out a "Zo!", excited. For her, this was just another game, just one that needed her trainer's cooperation. "Ready, Tsuki?" Kuro asked, receiving an exclamation of Zorua's full name in answer. |

Joseph was happy to see Kuro smile at the challenge. Joseph walked over to the left side of the arena and went to stand in the trainer box at the end of the rectangle. 'From the look of it Tsuki might beat Cyndaquil when it comes to terms of speed, so going in for an attack at the beginning might backfire on them. For now they should concentrate on defense, and go for the attack when there's a sure opening.' He held Cyndaquils pokeball close to his mouth as he took a couple of breaths. "This is our first real test as partners Cyndaquil. It won't be easy facing them, but lets show the professor a great battle." Joseph whispered to the pokeball thinking Cyndaquil would be able to listen. "Let's go Cyndaquil!" Joseph said as he pressed the middle button of the pokeball and threw it in the air. The ball open as a white flash came out materializing into Cyndaquil, and then coming back to his hand like a magnet. Cyndaquil looked around the are a bit confused at the moment when she saw the professor, she looked back at Joseph with a concerned look on her face saying her name in worrisome tone. "Don't worry about the professor. If we show him a good battle he says our debt will be repayed, so lets not hold back." Joseph said trying to inspire Cyndaquil. Cyndaquil looked over to her opponent to see Tsuki with a smirk on her face excited for the battle. For a moment Cyndaquil was concerned, but then she remembered how the Zorua jumped her before, so this could be some good payback. She put her forelimbs on the ground and got in a battle stance, "Cyndaquil!" she said, ready for battle. "Alright, I will be acting as the battle judge in this battle. This will be a one-on-one battle. The match will end when 1 or both pokemon are unable to continue or when one gives up." The professor said as he stood at the end of middle line looking at both trainers. He looked over at Joseph and asked, "Ready?" "Ready!" Joseph said without a second thought and was followed by "Cyndaquil!" by Cyndaquil who thought just as he did. Joseph smiled at how enthusiastic Cyndaquil was. "Alright Cyndaquil. Watch her movements closely and we'll be fine." The professor looked over to Kuro and asked him the same thing. "Ready?" |

Kuro breathed in, focused on the task at hand as Joe sent out Cyndaquil, and both got ready for the battle. Tsuki wagged her tail glad her friend was going to play with them, and crouched slightly, muscles tense and ready to work. "Ready?" came the voice of the Professor, answered by a loud exclamation of both trainer and Pokémon. The Professor nodded and looked in Kuro's direction, repeating his question. Zorua barked a loud "Zo!", one of her fangs showing while she smirked. "Ready!" Kuro said, at the same time as his partner, eyes on the two Pokémon on the field. "Fire vs Dark... neither has an advantage or disadvantage," he thought, exhaling. It would be a good way to test if he was truly ready for the journey ahead. "Then start!" the Professor exclaimed, raising his arms and bringing them down to form an 'X' in front of his body, signaling the beginning of the battle. "Leer!" Kuro exclaimed, to which Zorua answered with a bark, normally blue eyes glowing eerily red as she chuckled darkly, crouching, ready to react to her trainer's commands. |

Joseph did not take his eyes off Cyndaquil or Tsuki as he waited for the professor to give the signal. When the professor said start, Joseph quickly called the same move Kuro had called, thinking of the same thing. "Quick Cyndaquil use Leer." Joseph said as Cyndaquils linear black eyes started glowing red while they looked at Tsuki. At the same time Cyndaquil was feeling the same effect for Tsuki's leer and had her defense lowered. 'It's too soon for us to attack. We have to wait for them to attack first.' Joseph thought."Hold it Cyndaquil, don't take your eyes off her." Josep said as Cyndaquil held her ground, and her eyes continued to glow looking to lower Tsuki's defense.

"Same move, huh?" Kuro thought, watching as the outline of Cyndaquil's still closed eyes glowed the same shade of red as Tsuki's ones, both moves affecting their targets. "Zig-zag and Pursuit!" he exclaimed, earning a "Zo!" as the Dark-type ran towards the other Pokémon at full speed, doing sharp, quick turns to make herself a difficult target to hit with a long-range attack. "If he uses a special move, that should avoid being hit by the blunt of the attack," Kuro thought, as the Zorua ran towards the Fire-type, ready to hit her with her body. |

As soon as Tsuki started running forward in zig-zag Cyndaquil's ayes returned to normal as she tried to follow the dark fox pokemon with her eyes. "Cyndaquil watch the pattern, anticipate were she's gonna go." Joseph said as Cyndaquil moved her head left and right trying to keep up with Tsuki, Joseph did the same as he tried to anticapate the movements. "Wait... wait... Now jump forward." Joseph said as the Zorua got closer and Cyndaquil jumped forward over Tsuki, avoiding the full hit of the attack, but Tsuki's body was still able to come in contact with the bottom loegs of Cyndaquil, causing her to do a front filp forward and land on her back. "Cyndaqui get up quickly!" Joseph said a bit agitated in his tone. Cyndaquil quickly rolled over to spot her opponent again. "Now use leer again." Joseph said relieved that Cyndaquil got up so quickly, as Cyndaquils linear eyes began glowing red again. |

Tsuki che'd as Cyndaquil jumped over her, raising her head to try to hit her stomach. However, the reaction came too slow, and instead of the unprotected stomach, the Pursuit attack grazed the Fire-type's back legs, making her lose her balance and land on her back. The Dark-type skidded to a stop and turned, facing the other Pokémon again, smirk gone and replaced with a frown as her friend heeded the orders of her trainer and used Leer again, making her defense fall a second time. "You almost got her, make your movements more erratic!" Kuro said, and the Zorua nodded, running again at full speed. Months of playing a game of cat-and-mouse with the boy before she decided to go with him had helped the Zorua with making her movements more unpredictable, as she added jumps to her sharp turns, circling the Cyndaquil instead of going straight towards her like before, wind messing her fur as she charged towards the Fire Pokémon's side, attack ready. |

The leer attack had worked, and for now they had to focus on dodging Tsuki's attack again. Both Joseph and Cyndaquil were trying to keep up with the Zorua's movements. "From the side Cyndaquil. Jump back." Joseph said trying to make Cyndaquil dodge the attack, but her movements were a tad too short in that moment and got the full blunt of the Pursuit attack. Cyndaquil was knocked to the side as she rolled 3 times on the ground until stopping. "Cyndaquil are you okay?" Joseph asked worried. Cyndaquil was able to get back up on 4 legs after a few seconds, "Cyndaquil!" she said in strong tone, meaning she was okay to continue. 'Cyndaquil... was it wrong to focus on defense so much... No I can't doubt myself now, I gotta believe in her and in my decisions.' Joseph thought to himself. "Alright Cyndaquil use leer one more time." Joseph said confident in his strategy. Cyndaquil let out a loud cry of it's name and her eyes began to flash red yet again, as she kept her gaze on the Zorua. |

"He's using too many Leer attacks," Kuro thought, watching as Tsuki's attack collided only for Cyndaquil to be back on her feet, using Leer again. If it continued like that, the Fire-type would have the advantage in a direct confrontation. Fire moves were usually special, but if she had a physical one, it could be bad to have Zorua's defense so lowered. "Increase your distance and use Leer again," he commanded, wanting to level the field again. The Dark-type jumped back, putting distance between the two opposing Pokémon, eyes glowing red again. |
