"Now Cyndaquil GO! Use tackle at full speed." Joseph said the moment Tsuki had jumped back. Cyndaquil began running at fast as it could toward the red eyed dark-type pokemon, ignoring the fact that her defense was being lowered in the process. Cyndaquil headed for a straight in collision without making any tricks moves to try and confuse the Zorua.

Zorua yipped as Cyndaquil quickly ran towards her, eyes fading to her usual blue again in surprise as the Fire-type tackled her, sending her back and rolling on the grassy ground, getting pieces of grass and dirt stuck in her fur. "Quick, Pursuit before she can retreat!" Kuro said, as Zorua bolted like a rocket the second she regained her balance, wincing a bit from that last attack as she did a beeline towards her foe.

"Cyndaquil don't retreat! Full speed ahead with tackle." Joseph said as Cyndaquil continued straight ahead toward the oncoming Zorua. As they got closer Joseph yelled at Cyndaquil, "Cyndaquill jump over her and attack from behind." Joseph said as Cyndaquil tried to leap over Tsuki to start chasing her from behind, hoping this time it would work.

"Turn and attack!" Kuro exclaimed as Cyndaquil jumped over Tsuki again. The black Pokémon dug her paws in the ground and jumped in the direction she had been coming from, as the Fire-type landed on the ground and attacked, Pursuit and Tackle colliding head-on since none of the two had time to switch directions or evade. Tsuki dug her paws on the ground and clenched her teeth, trying to find leverage and to push the other one backwards, growling slightly in effort.

Cyndaquil had been able to jump over Tsuki, but Joseph hadn't expect that the Zorua would be able to turn and attack so quickly. Both pokemon were now trying to push the other one back as they collided head first. "Cyndaquil plant your 2 claws on the ground and hold your ground." Joseph instructed and Cyndaquil followed. She planted her 2 smalls claws, one in each backfoot on the ground in an effort to not be pushed off. However the dark-type pokemons pursuit was strong and the Zorua was able to push Cyndaquil back, as Cyndaquil went flying back and rolled two times on the ground.

"Cyndaquil get up!!" Joseph yelled worried, but this time Cyndaquil was slower to get up unlike before as she took a couple of deep breaths "Cynda... Cynda... Cynda..."

Tsuki breathed hard as she managed to push Cyndaquil away, rolling on the ground. The Tackle attack had taken it's toll, though, as she panted for air, fur ruffled. She dug into the fur on her neck and dug out a small, rounded blue berry with a green top. "That's... the berry we found in the forest," Kuro thought, remembering how the Dark-type had nagged him until she was given the food, storing it inside her fur for later use. Tsuki popped the object into her mouth without waiting for her trainer's orders, chewing it and gulping it down, shaking her body when she was done. Kuro was surprised that she looked a little bit healthier than before, but Cyndaquil's noises snapped him out. "This is our chance, while she's still weak."

"Tsuki, Pursuit, before she can get away!" he exclaimed, and Zorua ran forward again, energy partly restored as she charged towards the other Pokémon, attack at the ready.

Josephs attention was caught by the Zorua as he noticed it dug out a small blue berry from her fur. In an instant it seemed like the Zorua had regained a little of it's energy as it jolted toward Cyndaquil. It was then that Joseph realized in how bad of a position they were since Cyndaquil had yet to move from her spot, she seemed exhausted. As the dark-type pokemon closed in on Cyndaquil, "Cyndaquil look out!!" Joseph yelled, as Cyndaquil was surprised when she noticed the Zorua almost on top of her.

"Cyndaquil!!!" Cyndaquil yelled as in that moment the fire on Cyndaquil's back lit up, more vigorously than Joseph had ever seen it. Normally one would think that it was because she was surprised or startled by Tsuki's attack, but not Joseph. Joseph thought that Cyndaquil had forced the flames out by her own determination to win. As the flames flickered on her back Cyndaquil stood her ground waiting for Tsuki as Joseph watched in awe.

Kuro was surprised at seeing the fire activate again in Cyndaquil's back, burning stronger than ever. He didn't know if it was normal or not, or if it was a sign that the other was going to use a fire move, but Joe wasn't ordering anything and Cyndaquil looked to be in a defensive position. However, the fire alone could count as an attack, as it was big enough to hurt Tsuki if she got too near. "Should I tell her to stop? But if the fire doesn't go out, how are we supposed to attack? And if we wait for a chance, what if she recovers her energy too?" he thought, clenching his hands into fists. "No... I have to trust Tsuki, and believe that she'll be able to handle it," he thought, eyes gaining a determined look. "Tsuki! Get going!"

The Dark-type let out a loud "ZO!" as a battle cry in answer, gritting her teeth as she ran full speed towards the other Pokémon, head lowered to protect her somewhat against the heat the other was emanating as she aimed for the head, where the fire wasn't burning.

As Tsuki kept running full speed ahead Cyndaquil opened her mouth and looked like it was ready to use a fire-type move. "All right Cyndaquil go for it! Attack!" Joseph yelled. "CYNDA...quil..." Cyndaquil let out as nothing but a bit of smoke came out from her mouth and the fire on her back died out. At that moment Cyndaquil got the full blunt of the Pursuit attack as Tsuki collided with her. Cyndaquil was sent back flying again and layed on the ground a bit longer. Joseph face in disbelief for a moment until he saw Cyndaquil try to get up yet again, but this time she couldn't, she fell when she was halfway up and layed on the ground exhausted.

"Cyndaquil is unable to battle. The winner is Kurohane and Zorua." Porf. Barry said as he lifted his right arm and pointed at Kuro's direction. The moment Joseph heard the battle was over he quickly ran over to Cyndaquil which was on the other side of the field. He picked Cyndaquil up from the ground and it seemed she noticed as she began looking at his face with a disapointed look. "Hey you did great Cyndaquil. You gave it your all and I'm proud of you." Those words brought a smile to the fire pokemon as it decided to doze off for a while.

Kuro held his breath as Cyndaquil opened her mouth, expecting a Fire attack; and at that distance, Tsuki wouldn't be able to evade. However, all that came out was a puff of smoke as the fire on the Pokémon's back disappeared. Tsuki continued her charge and closed her eyes as she hit the Fire-type, sending her back while Tsuki stood in the spot where they collided, panting. Cyndaquil tried to get up, but her force failed her and she fell down again, all energy spent.

Kuro stood there, hearing the Professor's voice without really processing the words. "We did it..." he whispered, not really believing it. Tsuki jumped in joy and winced when she landed, weak due to her recent battle. Her yipping caught Kuro's attention and he hurried to the arena, to make sure she could still walk on her own. She proved she was still good to go, though, when she pounced his leg, rubbing her head affectionately against it. "Tsuki, you were incredible," he told her, smiling at her and ruffling the mass of fur on her head. She pawed his hand, making her barking noises again, and turned to see how her friend was doing. Kuro nodded at her and they both went to where Joe and Cyndaquil were, the Dark-type running ahead to see how the other one was. Seeing the Fire-type had started to doze off, she let out a happy yelp, tail wagging. "It was a great battle, Joe. Either of us could have won," Kuro said, extending his hand to the other trainer with a smile.

Joseph let out a rather big sigh as he noticed Tsuki come to see how Cyndaquil was doing and then he heard Kuro compliment him. Joseph got up from the ground while holding Cyndaquil in his left arm, he looked at Kurok straight serious in a moment of tension. He then let out a laugh as he grabbed Kuro's hand in a firm grip. "It really was a great battle huh. Congratulations Kuro!" Joseph said with a happy look on his face, but then he gripped the hand a bit more stronger with a confident smile on his face. "But don't get to overconfident, cause the next time we battle I'll be the winner." Joseph said with confident eyes looking at Kuro, challenging him to get stronger so they can have another great battle. This loss did not make him lose motivation but instead gave him more motivation to get stronger. Joseph had officially made his first rival.

"Now that's what I call a battle lads." The professor said in an enthusiastic tone, as he walked over to them. It surprised Joseph a bit which made him let go of Kuro's hand. "If that was your first battle I can't wait until I see the battles you'll have later on in your journey. Now let's head back inside to recover the data and treat your pokemon. This was so worth having the room destroyed." The professor said as he laughed and continued to walk toward the laboratory.

Joseph let out a laugh at that last comment before he followed the professor. "Let's go." He said talking to Kuro and Tsuki, while he was holding Cyndaquil.

Kuro flinched a little when Joe looked at him seriously, thinking the other boy was angry at him. Maybe he had been too rough, maybe he had cheated with that berry... He was about to lower his hand when Joe laughed, accepting the handshake and congratulating him in his victory. He let out a breath he didn't know he was holding at that, glad the red-headed trainer wasn't angry at him. "But don't get to overconfident, cause the next time we battle I'll be the winner," the other boy added, gripping his hand stronger than before with a confident expression on his face, making Kuro let out a relieved laugh. "I won't, don't worry," he said, smiling again. Next time... who knew how strong they'd have gotten by then. He'll have to work hard with Tsuki to improve, and not let Joe down on their next fight.

The Professor's voice suddenly came from their side, startling him just like the first time they saw the man and breaking the handshake. Tsuki snickered at that, having sat down on the ground to rest a bit, eyes closed in happy arcs in amusement. "Worth having the room..." Kuro thought, sweat-dropping at the Professor's last statement as the man laughed and started to walk towards the laboratory again. Joe followed first, and Kuro looked at Tsuki, who nodded and walked after the other trainer when he called for them to go. He slightly smiled and followed the group, not wanting to fall behind.

The Professor led them back through the hallway, making a turn to the right and leading them to the other side of the glass panel they had seen before the 'room disaster'. The blue Pokémon from earlier was gone, probably healed already, and the two rectangular tables were empty, cables hanging limply from the machines next to them. "Now, if you would please put your Pokémon on those tables. I'll attach some cables - completely non-intrusive, your friends won't be hurt - and collect the data. It won't take long, and after that, just return them to their Pokéballs and put them on that machine over there," he explained, pointing at a medium-sized machine that looked like a computer mixed with a table. The table part had six semi-circular holes on it, to put the Pokéballs, Kuro supposed, and behind it was a big, rectangular monitor currently off. "That will heal them completely," the man finished, turning to look at the trainers with his hands clasped behind his back. Kuro nodded and picked up Zorua, who growled at him as he put her on the nearest table. He knew she hated being carried, but he had also noticed how she had been following at a slow pace, in contrast to the usual running around that she always did. "Don't complain, I know you're tired," he told the Pokémon, who huffed and turned her back on him.

Joseph laughed at seeing Tsuki still being difficult even when she was tired. Joseph placed Cyndaquil gently in the table the professor had instructed him as the professor then began to attach some cables to her, though she didn't even notice them as she was still sleeping. One of the monitors started beeping and showing data that Joseph didn't understand. The professor then walked over to Tsuki's table where she was now lying on the ground and attached some cables aswell. A second monitor started beeping showing data.

The professor walked over to the computer typing some things in the keyboard and then turning to the two trainers. "Alright just give them a few minutes and it will be done. In the meantime you lads take a seat over there while I go look for the list of pokemon in route 1 I promised you." The professor said quickly leaving the room.

Joseph noticed 2 metal seat on the far side of the wall and walked over to them to take a little breather. As he sat down he noticed that he was very tired for some reason. Even though he wasn't the one fighting he felt like he did. It seemed the commotion from before and the intense feeling of battle had worn Joseph quite a bit as he let out a breath of relaxation. He remained in silence while next to Kuro, not really knowing what to say in the moment.

Tsuki glanced suspiciously at the Professor as he attached some cables to her body, but she stayed still and allowed the man to handle her without a fight. Her ear twitched when the monitor started beeping, and she looked curiously at it, eyes following the lines of text without understanding anything written, but entertained by their movements as they appeared. It looked like she was really going to stay still for the couple of minutes that the Professor requested, so Kuro followed the man's advice and went towards the only chairs in the room, leaving his bag at his feet as he sat down next to Joe. There was a small awkward silence as neither of the boys spoke, only broken by the beeping of the two monitors on the room. That repeating sound was making the dark-haired trainer nervous as he thought of what to do, not really knowing what to even do with his hands or eyes. For now, his hands rested on his lap, index fingers slightly touching, gaze on the marbled floor.

As his eyes traveled from the floor to his bag, he remembered he hadn't gotten the Fire-type's data yet. He could have gotten it when he met Joe, since the other trainer had also scanned Zorua, but he had promised to himself to only use the Pokédex on Pokémon he knew. It kind of defeated the purpose of owning a high-tech encyclopedia, but if he just pointed it at every Pokémon he met, he'd not only probably forget half of the things it told him, he'd come to depend too much on it. And what if it ever got lost or taken? No, it was better to learn by experience. That way, if he was wrong, he'd learn from his mistakes.

With those thoughts in mind, he opened one of the side pockets, where he had decided to keep both the Pokédex and Tsuki's Pokéball. He took out the rectangular device, black with a square screen on the top side and a small, green rectangle on the right, a completely red Pokéball design on the bottom save the white button on its middle and the black lines that formed its shape. "Do you mind?" he asked the other boy, not really looking at his eyes as he didn't know if the other would agree or not.

Joseph was lost in thought as he went over the battle trying to figure out if he had done something wrong, or if he should have changed strategy. With those thoughts in mind he wasn't paying attention to Kuro so he was a bit startled when Kuro asked him a question. "Huh, what?" Joseph said not knowing what Kuro was talking about when he then saw the pokedex in his hand and immediately figured it out. "Ohh of course, I mean you let me scan your pokemon, so go ahead." Joseph said.

A few seconds passed and the professor returned with some pieces of paper, he handed 2 papers to Joseph and 2 to Kuro. As Joseph looked through the first one it had a list of 16 different pokemon with images, level variety and some had small markings or brief descriptions on how to catch them. The second paper had a list of 6 pokemon which 5 of them were already in the first list but there was one which wasn't. On the top of the paper it said "Pokemon available at night"

"Professor what do the markings mean next to some of the pokemon?" Joseph asked as he looked through the list.

"Ahh yes. There are some pokemon in route 1 which are... special cases. For example to catch Magikarp you would need either a water pokemon or a rod. You can only catch a Seedot if you shake a tree and it falls. And there are two very special marks in there. The first one is Ghastly, a ghost pokemon that no normal eyes can see it, but it's is said that ghost pokemon can sense it and that dark pokemon can see it. The other one is Poocheyna, though during the days you'll encounter many wild normal Poochyenas, it is said that during the night a shiny Poocheyna leads his pack through the route. Though no one's been able to see it clearly." The professor explained.

At that the machine that was examining the pokemon stopped beeping and the professor went to it and began detaching the cables from the two pokemons. "Okay now place your pokemon in the healing machine like I told you before and we can begin talking about your battle." The professor said pointing to the machine he had mentioned before.

Joseph got up from his chair and walked over to Cyndaquil who was still asleep even after all that. Joseph let out a smile as he caressed her while he took out her pokeball and returned her to it. He then went to place the pokeball in one of the semi-circular holes in the machine.
