This is another of my old reviews. I will be writing a new and fresh one hopefully today.

Introduction: There has been many Lord Of The Rings games on the third generation systems. The first series was the hack and slashing games, which were Lord Of The Rings The Two Towers, and Return Of The King. These games pleased its fans and got reasonable reviews. Then, came games such as The Hobbit, or the Fellowship Of The Ring, which was different to the previous games. Many people seemed somewhat disappointed with these games, although I personally liked them. Now a new Lord Of The Rings game has come, Lord Of The Rings: The Third Age. Unlike the other games, this is a RPG. Here are my thoughts on the new game..

Story: As you would expect, this game is to do with Lord Of The Ring's story. You play as new and original characters, not seen in the books or movies. Each character has there own goal or quest. At first, I liked the idea of playing as completely different people, however, as I played through the game I noticed the characters stories was rather dull and boring. There isn't many scenes in this game at all, which is quite disappointing for a RPG. At certain points in the game, you come across the fellowship itself, who you can actually play as temporarily. This was a nice addition to the game, but most of the fellowship didn't have much to do with your actual storyline, and if they did it was just your group following them around. Another addition to the game is an option called "Epic scenes." These scenes shows many clips from the films, and has Gandalf talking to your group about the area your in, or enemies. I was rather disappointed with the story, and hope if they make a new game they will have a more original story. 6/10

Graphics: The graphics in this game is both awesome and not so good in places. The epic scenes are obviously amazing, because they come straight from the film. The background is superb and stunning. Moria looks great with all of its treasure and caves, and places such as Rohan looks awesome and realistic. I was however disappointed with the in game cut scenes. The characters faces look slightly out of place and a bit outdated. All in all however, I was pleased with this games graphics. 8/10

Sound: I love the sound in this game. Most of its music is taken straight from the movies, which definitely is not a bad thing. The voice actors are great for this type of game, and Gandalf especially does a great job. In fact, your group members actually have very good voices, and it was sad that they didn't speak much throughout your adventure. Also, the sound effects in this game was done well. Weapons sound exactly how they should in this game and makes battles seem very realistic and believable. My only complaint is sometimes when your in a battle the cries of Orcs and other enemies can be too loud, so it can be quite difficult to listen to the games music. 9/10

Gameplay: This is possibly the strongest point of the game. The game play in this game is good, and people that like games such as FFX will feel right at home here. As you may know, this games an RPG that's turn based. The battle set-up is much like FFX, which although may not be original, it definitely works well. The games difficulty is a mixed bag, some enemies are incredibly weak, but other times, bosses such as the Balrog can be quite challenging. Levelling up is usually not too difficult, especially near the early parts of the game. The most important thing in this battle system however, would have to be the skills. Skills basically gives you a new move that is unique. For example, you could eventually learn to put your foes to sleep, or heal party members. You gain a skill point every time you use a skill. Skills are very important, maybe even more important than levels. Other than the battle system, I find the controls easy to use, and the camera angle never was a problem for me. Overall the game play is somewhat entertaining, and certainly worth a try. 8/10

Replay value: A negative point towards this game is the lack of side quests. After you complete the game and finish evil mode, there really isn't much to do. You could get all the weapons, armour, get the highest level etc. But the longest it should take you to do all of these things would be 30-35 hours. Which although is a great amount of time, I was hoping for the 60-80 hours they promised us. If you really enjoyed the game you may find yourself coming back for more though. 6/10.

Rent or Buy?: If you enjoy RPG's, get this game. If you enjoy Lord Of The Rings, but your not a fan of RPG's, then I suggest you rent this game.

My original overall was 8, but now I give it a 7.
