The Giddiest

Arriving Reedriver bridge, Gidd decided that now would be a good time as any to train before arriving in Dianette. Releasing Peppy onto the road, Gidd was greated by an angry penguin squeaking at him. Judging from the bags under Peppy's eyes, Gidd could only assume that he had woken him up from a nice nap. "Come on Peppy! It's time we start training!" Peppy was less than amused. Deciding that he wasn't up for training, Peppy used his feet to dig a shallow hole in the dirt on the road side. Sitting there and closing his eyes, he prepared to take another nap.

"Come on Peppy! We need to start training now or else we're really gonna be behind everyone else! You don't even know Bubble yet!" Peppy remained unconvinced as he stayed sitting in his spot. Sighing Gidd was left with his final resort. "How about this: If you can learn Bubble by the end of the day, when we reach town I'll find us a nice place to stay and let you sleep on the bed." Opening one eye, Peppy stared at Gidd for a while thinking about his offer. After much consideration Peppy agreed with a wholehearted squeak! "Good! Now let's see if there are any trainers around that are willing to battle. otherwise we'll have to look for some wild Pokemon. Who knows, we might even get a new addition to the team!" Both Partners nodded and they set off in search of opponents.

"I really hope the room doesn't burn a hole in my wallet..." Gidd muttered under his breath as Peppy lead the search.

Walking up to trainer after trainer, looking for a battle, Gidd was turned down every time. Either because the trainers were busy or they figured a new trainer like him wasn’t worth it. After a while Peppy and Gidd decided that they would find an opponent faster if they split up. Gidd would stay on the bridge and path looking for trainers to battle, while Peppy would go down to the river and marsh under the bridge in search of opponents.

"I'm sorry, but my Bulbasaur is all tuckered out." Another trainer turned down Gidd's request to train after a couple of hours of searching. With his spirits down Gidd sat down on the side of the road, sighing. "At this rate we'll never get any stronger!" Frustrated he threw himself backwards onto the grass, only to be met with a sharp pain in his left shoulder! "Gah!" Rolling over, he rubbed his shoulder trying to numb the pain. After being making it tolerable, he sat up and checked the ground where he had lied down and found a pretty green gem. Picking it up, it reflected a pretty orange color from the sunset, and Gidd couldn't help but smile at it's beauty. "At least we got something out of today" Putting it into his bag, Gidd got up and stretched. "I wonder where Peppy went..."

The Giddiest

Gidd looked around the bridge and grassy areas for his partner with no luck. Calling out Peppy's name, Gidd was greeted by annoyed squeaks coming from under the bridge. Making his way over there, Gidd saw his Piplup hanging out with a Corphish who, upon noticing Gidd, slowly backed up raising it's claws and snapping them at him. "Whoa... what's going on here?" Peppy began squeaking at the Corphish as to calm him down.

The Corphish made gurgling noises and made a head tilt motion towards Gidd. Peppy responded by looking at Gidd then back to the Corphish, then he broke out laughing. Both Corphish and Gidd looked utterly confused as Peppy continued to crack up. Peppy, still breaking out into fits of laughter, began explaining things to the Corphish in a conversation Gidd felt really left out on.

After some quick arguing on the part of the Pokemon, Corphish slowly started to follow Peppy towards Gidd, keeping a wary eye on him. "So... you mind explaining what's going on?" Though Gidd couldn't understand Peppy's squeaks, he could get the gist of what was going on through body language and visual ques. As it went, Peppy had been looking for wild Pokemon to train with, when a Watchdog started picking a fight with him for being an outsider. He was going to start throwing down when the Corphish showed up and managed to calm both of them down. He quickly struck up a friendship with the Corphish and had broke out laughing when the Corphish was wary of Gidd because he thought he was dangerous. Apparently he had heard a lot of rumors on how dangerous humans were and was just being safe around Gidd.

"Ah... I see. Well you don't need to worry Corphish! I won't hurt ya!" Gidd gave him a wink and thumbs up. Corphish just looked at him utterly baffled either because he couldn't believe he though Gidd was dangerous or that Gidd looked really unnatural doing that, or both. Then both Pokemon's stomachs began to grumble. "Aha! You too seem to be hungry. Well lucky for you I packed plenty of treats so dig in!" Gidd pulled out 2 trays from his backpack and filled them with Pokemon Food. Both chowed down as Gidd watched and chuckled as Peppy started to get a stomach ache from eating too fast and Corphish started rubbing Peppy's stomach, embarrassing the tiny penguin.

After some fun times with Corphish, Gidd decided it was getting late and it was about time to head to Dianette. Getting up and with Piplup following, they headed off on the road, only to be stopped by Corphish. Corphish had apparently lost it's initial fear of Gidd and now wanted to go with Gidd and Peppy to Dianette. Understanding that a battle is standard in a Trainer's recruitment of a partner, Corphish raised it's claws ready to prove its prowess to Gidd. "Oh..? Alright, if that's how you want it, lets go!"

Encounter approval

A wild Corphish has appeared

"Alright Let's go Peppy!" Peppy squeaked in agreement as he stood in front of Gidd, ready to take orders. Gidd carefully planned out his course of action and thought it best to start off tactically "Let's start off with a Growl!" Piplup's squeaks became louder in a menacing way that was sure to intimidate most Pokemon, lowering their attack, but much to both Gidd's and Peppy's surprise Corphish didn't budge and he opened up with Bubble! The stream of bubbles came out of Corphish's claws and shoved Piplup back a bit but luckily wasn't particularly strong, but it was enough to disorient Piplup.

Checking his Pokedex quickly Gidd realized that many Corphish are impossible to intimidate, so growl was now effectively useless. "Alright lets just go in with Pound!" Piplup obeyed and pounced at the Corphish. Right before impact, the Corphish tightened it's body and it shone in an almost metallic way, and when Peppy landed on him, he was in more pain than the Corphish, who looked dazed but mostly unharmed. "Darn! He knows Harden too!" That was 2 strikes against Gidd in this battle, one more and it looked like he might be out.

"Hey Peppy! You holding in there?" Peppy looked over and gave him a smile, showing that he wasn't out yet. "Okay! Avoid his attacks for now!" Peppy obliged and began dashing left and right, avoiding Corphish's Bubble attack like the plague.

"How're we suppost to beat him if he can harden at every physical attack we throw at him..?" Then it hit him. "Peppy! Use pound and shove him towards the bridge!" Peppy listened and began ramming into his opponent, shoving him closer to the bridge, hurting himself each time as Corphish would harden every hit. This was a risky gamble but if Peppy could hold on long enough, it would win them the match!

Now only a few feet away from the bridge, Peppy was nearly out of juice. "Now Peppy! Give this last shove everything you got!" Peppy gave out a loud squeal and shoved Corphish into the concrete bridge, finally hitting Corphish with something his shell couldn't block, weakening him significantly! Out of energy Peppy was paralyzed by exhaustion and was completely open to any attacks. Acting without hesitation, Gidd threw a Pokeball at Corphish and hoped for the best.

The ball shook once... twice... three times.... and after a small moment of silence, Gidd and Peppy were greeted by the sweet clicking noise of the Pokeball confirming a catch. "YES!" Ecstatic about his first catch Gidd grabbed Peppy and gave him a big hug, to which Peppy responded with a weak Squeak. "Sorry about that." Gidd put Peppy back down and went to retrieve Corphish's pokeball, releasing him upon grabbing it. Corphish bowed to Gidd as a show of respect and happily awaited his nickname. "Welcome to the team Captain Crabby!" Both Peppy and Crabby looked at Gidd in a way that just shouted "Are you serious?"

"Urgh... Fine. I'll make up a better nickname later." Looking up at the sky the sun had set so everything around them was dark now. "Time to go guys. We'll need a good night's sleep if we wanna explore Dianette tomorrow!" Returning Peppy and Crabby to their respective pokeballs, Gidd made his way across the bridge to Dianette. "You know you never learned bubble, right?" Gidd whispered into Peppy's Pokeball. Moments later Gidd could hear the squeaks of protest from Peppy's ball. Chuckling Gidd answered. "I'm not that cruel Peppy. You did good today. After a quick trip to the Pokemon Center, both of you can sleep with me on the bed." Peppy's squeaks stopped and Gidd took a big sigh as he walked up to the gates of the city.

Beep! Beep! The sound of an alarm clock echoed throughout the room tearing Gidd out of his dreams and into reality. "Urgh... I was having such a nice dream too." Groggily getting out of bed, Gidd began pulling fresh clothes and a tooth brush from his backpack. "A good bath will wake me up..." he commented to himself, still half asleep.

"It'll be so nice to just lie down and relax in some warm wa-" As he opened the door to the bathroom, steam shot out into the room, making the whole place feel like a sauna. Wiping the condensation from his face Gidd made his way into the bathroom trying to find the source of this sudden burst of heat. Hearing some squeaks and gurgling noises Gidd had a pretty good idea of the perpetrators and sure enough through the steam Gidd found both Peppy and Crabby relaxing in the tub with near boiling water filling it to the rim.

"So, having a good time?" Gidd asked rhetorically. Both his Pokemon just looked over to him, their eyes with not a care in the world, and sighed very relaxed sighs. Smiling, Gidd shrugged. "When in Rome..." not bothering to finish the saying, he pulled off his PJs and got in the bath. Wincing from the heat at first, Gidd eventually eased up and fell into a lulled daze like the others.

It was a fairly warm day outside, with a nice cloudless sky letting the sun's light touch everything in Dianette and a light autumn breeze accompanying such a beautiful day. Though it was near freezing for Gidd and the gang, who had just spent the past hour in a 100+ degree bath. Though Gidd still insisted on going out to the fields to look for opponents now that it was populated. Peppy complained as usual, wanting to go back to the motel they stayed at for a nap. "If you want to take a nap go back into your pokeball. I'll send you out when you're needed." Peppy accepted and was put in his ball for his beauty sleep.

Now alone with Captain Crabby walking alongside him, Gidd tried to make small talk. "So, Hi Crabby. How have you been?" Crabby sighed, still annoyed at his nickname and he answered with a shrug. "This is going to be a long day.."

"Crabby, use bubble!" Gidd issued his orders as a wild Bunnelby appeared in the marsh under the bridge. Crabby obliged and shot 2 high speed jets of bubbles from it's pincers. The Bunnelby responded by jumping over the attack entirely and following up with a Quick Attack knocking Crabby out. Trying to see if Crabby was ok Gidd ran towards his Pokemon. The Bunnelby however took Gidd's approach as a threat and wasn't going to have any of that. Jumping up near his face, the Bunnelby used tackle. With a bloody nose Gidd was knocked on his back as the Bunnelby took it's leave. Despite the pain, Gidd could muster up a comment. "Ouch..."

"You took quite a beating there stranger." Gidd opened his eyes to see a young man with reddish brown hair standing over him, a slight smile escaped the man as he looked down at Gidd. "You okay?"

Sitting up, Gidd couldn't help but feel embarrassed at his failure. "Uh, yeah. I'm fine." as he said that a stream of blood escaped his nose.

"Here. Let me help you with that." Turning Gidd towards him the stranger cringed as he saw Gidd's nose, which was slightly tilting diagonally. "Well it looks like the Bunnelby dislocated your nose. I better put it back into place. This might sting a bit."

"Are you sure you can do this?" Gidd asked nervously.

"Don't worry. I'm a trained EMT." Pinching Gidd's nose, he twisted it back into place with Gidd's muffled cries of pain filling the silence. "Well that should do it." the EMT said as he put a bandage on Gidd's nose. "That should heal up in a few weeks"

Returning Crabby to his pokeball Gidd found it necessary to express his gratitude."Thanks Mr...." Gidd paused for a second as he realized he didn't have the Man's name.

"Oh. The name's Allen. Allen Rostom."

"Well thank you Mr. Rostom. I'm Gidd. Gidd Melack!" The two shook hands as a greeting and Allen sat down next to Gidd. Pulling some sandwiches out of his backpack, Gidd offered one to Allen. "You want some?"

"Don't mind if I do!" Both of them sat there looking out into the wetlands and river. Observing all the Pokemon that lived there. "So what brings you out here to Reedriver?"

"I'm just training up my Pokemon. Though I don't seem very good at it."

"I hear you. I've been travelling around with my partner too. though not for very long. I've been studying to be an EMT for years. I never wanted anything more than that, but my parent's just figured it'd be good for me to see the world a bit." Allen seemed to be going down memory lane as he talked. He explained how he came from a long line of doctors and how he ultimately agreed to travel if only to better his abilities.

"Mr. Rostom. If you don't mind can you do me a favor?" Allen looked over to Gidd, waiting to hear his request. "If you have a partner Pokemon, do you mind battling?"

Allen looked iffy about the idea of battling. His pacifistic nature was keeping him from wanting to battle, but then he saw how much Gidd truly wanted it. "Eh... Okay. If you insist." Gidd cheered as they both took several steps in opposite directions and prepared for a battle!

EMT Allen wants to battle!

"Go Crabby!" Gidd threw out a pokeball and released his Corphish into the battle.

"Go Light!" Allen followed up by sending out his own Pokemon, an Elekid. As light was released, he seemed confused. He looked around for awhile and then looked at his trainer with a dumbfounded look. "Ah right. Light, today I don't need you as a defibrillator. We're actually battling." Light didn't seemed terribly pleased but he followed his trainer's orders.

"Well I'm already off to a bad start." Gidd currently had the type disadvantage due to water types like Crabby being weak to electric types like Light.

"Crabby! Use Bubble!" The jets of bubbles launched out of Crabby's pincers and homed in on Light.

"Light! Use Thundershock!" Rotating his arms very quickly, Light charged up electricity and released it. The charge cut through Crabby's Bubble attack and shocked Crabby. Crabby fell to the ground, steam rising from his body.

"Are you okay?" Gidd asked worriedly. Crabby slowly started to get up and nodded, steam still rising from it. "Don't push yourself to hard. Use Bubble one more time!" The stream of bubbles homed in Light once again.

Not wanting to shock Crabby again Allen used a different move. "Use Quick Attack!" Fading out of everyone's vision, Light was making his way towards Crabby for a direct hit.

"Crap! Use Harden!" Crabby quickly tensed up, shining in an almost metallic way just before Light struck him, reducing the damage he would have taken and slightly hurting Light from hitting something hard. "That was close! Crabby use Bubble!" But Crabby was struggling to move it's pincers to use bubble. "What's wrong?"

"Ah that would be part of Light's ability. Whenever an Elekid gets hurt they releases a small charge of electricity that doesn't harm anyone but does paralyze those in contact with them temporarily." With the paralysis affecting Crabby, he had lost his hardened state leaving him wide open. "Go Light! Quick attack." The ensuing hit took away what little energy Crabby had left and knocked him out.

"Crabby!" Gidd's fighting spirit took a shot as he saw Crabby faint. Light walked over to Crabby and helped him up. "Thank you." He thanked the Elekid. "Crabby come back!" Gidd returned Crabby and put him on his ball belt. Ready to call it game when Allen stopped him.

"Wait Gidd! You still have one Pokemon left don't you?" Allen pointed towards Peppy's pokeball on the belt.

With some hope rekindled he grabbed Peppy's ball and got ready. "Let's go Peppy!" Releasing the tiny penguin, Gidd was greeted to Peppy lying face down on the floor, completely asleep."Peppy! Come on! Wake up!" But Peppy was out of it, smiling as though he was having a nice dream.

"Here let's see if we can't wake him up." Light walked over to Peppy and rubbed his hands together. "Clear!" Allen called out and Light touched Peppy's cheek, giving him a light shock which jolted Peppy out of his dreams.

Peppy could feel as the last figments of his perfect reality within his dreams fade as he opened his eyes to see an Elekid standing over him. Angry about losing his paradise, he used pound on his opponent without Gidd's orders. After hitting Light, Peppy was preparng to use pound again when he fell over face flat due to the paralysis he was inflicted. "Uh... Peppy." Gidd was ignored as Peppy angrily squeaked at his opponent and broke out of his paralysis and used pound again.

"You've got a feisty one on you." Allen said half jokingly. "Light! Use Quick Attack!" Light then quickly got out of the way and struck Peppy in the face.

Recoiling back, Peppy prepared to pound again when Gidd stopped him. "Listen, we need to think of a plan if we're going to beat him! Be on the defensive for now!" Peppy, still kinda grumpy obliged and kept a look out for Light's movement's and guarding against his Quick Attacks.

Looking around at the environment Gidd looked for a way to put Light at a disadvantage. "Come on..." Then it hit Gidd and he felt stupid as it was right in front of him the whole time. "Peppy!" He called over to his partner and then tilted his head towards the marsh. Piplup understood and when Light closed in for another Quick Attack Peppy countered by grabbing his hand and throwing Light into the marsh. There was a bright flash as Light discharged alot of electricity in the water. As Light rose up he was completely covered in mud! "Now's our chance! Peppy use pound!"

As Peppy struck his opponent, he turned around and pounded him again. "What? Your Piplup should be paralyzed!" Allen called out in surprise.

"Not anymore. Your Elekid already discharged alot of electricity in the water and now that he's covered in mud, the small charges he is releasing are being insulated! Now Peppy Finish him off! Pound one more time!" Peppy turned to his recoiled opponent and rammed into his gut, finally knocking him out and winning Gidd the match.

After getting both their pokemon healed back in Dianette, Allen congradulated Gidd on his win. "That was a good game! Though I think I'll be sticking to being an EMT from now on." Allen laughed.

"Thanks for everything Mr. Rostom!" Shaking hands with Allen, Gidd departed from the center and back to the Motel where he and his partners were staying. "So how did you guys enjoy your day?" He asked them through their balls. And from both of them all he could hear were snores. Chuckling to himself he went back to his room and ended his day.
