Pokemon decleration An arched white bridge stretched over a narrow river in front of her, and Chandra imagined she was in the same spot that the photographer of the information leaflet she had read had stood as he or she took the scenic picture of the bridge, as it seemed so perfect from where she was standing. The railings were immaculately clean, and the thick wooden frame seemed fresh and glossy. They were decorated modestly, but had a sharp yet picturesque appearance that matched the more worn looking planked base. The cold, afternoon sun shone down on the perky grass clumps surrounding the structure, and despite it's perfect stillness the whole bridge looked practical and lively, part of it's surroundings. Even the infamous river seemed to bubble and froth along invitingly. Regardless though, Chandra still felt lonely as she hadn't seen any Pokémon or people on her day-and-a-half trip from Grengrothe. Initially, Chandra had wanted to travel South, to Skytouch Forest, but later decided that travelling through the city would be more exciting, and a shorter route to the famous Safari Zone she had wanted so much to visit. Reedriver bridge was but a pretty sightseeing pass that she would hopefully travel over without trouble on her way to the big city. Her previous loneliness made her extremely excited when she saw her first, wild, catchable Pokémon. A Patrat was nibbling on some brown nuts hidden behind a cluster of short grass. Little thought went through her head when she squeaked, breathed; "oh mew," and released Needles. Chandra hadn't let Needles out of her Pokéball the whole journey, in anxiety that her ferocity would be taken out on her. Unfortunately though, letting Needles out at the site of a Pokémon seemed instinctual so she wasn't ready for the consequences it would cause. Needles was stressed and angry, and even if she could control herself she had no intention of hiding it. Where in the distortion world was she? Why hadn't anyone told her anything? Her eyes were diluted with worry and her ears were perked and twitching high above her purple-blue head. A squeak rose up her throat. Everything looked and smelled different, and that wasn't comforting in the slightest. She heard a concerned voice from a girl behind her asking something and the voice sounded genuine. Needles decided she wasn't alright, no thank you, but she knew that girl had her Pokéball and that meant she couldn't show her vulnerable side. Time to attack something. Chandra wondered if she should recall her Nidoran or at least take her aside and explain the situation. Guilt seeped through her brain in sticky tendrils, and she could only watch as Needles ran up, strengthened with some burning purpose, to the Patrat she had wanted to greet. And then watched as Needles scratched it aggressively. She wasn't really prepared for the immediate, fast paced chase that followed. The Patrat dropped it's half-chewed nuts surprised and in pain and sprinted away, though to both its and Chandra's utter dismay Needles pursued. "Why..." Chandra breathed disbelievingly. Her legs started before her brain did, so before she knew it she was off, chasing after the four legged creatures. editing reason

Spring Event! “Stop!” She found herself calling after them both of them pathetically. Chandra’s face was angular with surprise, yet her short legs moved fast in a rhythmic pattern. Her Pokéball. Could she force Needles to return? Chandra couldn't take the risk of losing Needles capsule if her throw missed. ”No! Stop!” she continued shouting, arms flailing useless in the wind, which had suddenly seemed to pick up and lash against her skin. Up head she could see the Patrat wildly swing it’s head from side to side, trying to find a place to hide. Chandra felt sorry for it, she had imagined (and read) that the Pokémon of this area were peaceful and relatively harmless. How dare Needles run after such unaware things! The Patrat was generally trying to throw Needles off guard. It ran through the tall grass, that was so tall Chandra couldn't see where the two were going and had to judge where they were by hearing; skidded under rocks; that snagged on Chandra’s worn shoes, and trying dodging around the odd shrub that it thought might get Needles confused. But why was Needles so angry anyway? It would be in serious trouble, at least by her standards, when she finally caught it. Though she didn't realise that the short run was about to get worse. The Patrat had decided to head down by the river and unfortunately for Chandra and Needles the river banks were full of mud. Piles of it in great big lumps were all swathed over the bank. A half-liquid sea of brown stretched over the leevees Chandra with her clean and tidy mind panicked at such a vast quantity of mud and skidded suddenly to avoid it, falling down as she did so. She could then only watch in self sympathy as Patrat glided naturally through the mud whilst Nidoran scrambled and slipped around in it. Needles was slowing whilst the Patrat got further and further away, until after only half a minute it had vanished completely under a particularly large clump, less than a metre away from the water. Chandra noticed before the furious Needles did, so the Nidoran spent more time tromping through the mud in the presumed direction of the Patrat. “It’s gone you weird… spikeball!” Shouted Chandra to Nidoran, she was angry, but being her ever sweet self she found it hard to offend. No, no, no, no! Needles voice raged in her head. That Patrat was probably the reason she was here and now she would probably never got back to her home! Urgh! Her anger powered her legs, and resilience seeped through her muscles. She started to storm through the mud and travelled faster. What was that girl from behind her doing anyway? Her voice had annoyed Needles because it seemed angry.Angry but... weak? She didn’t understand it, but she noticed the tone. Was it the girl who had brought her to this new place!? Maybe Needles didn’t need to impress the girl. Maybe… Needles' head swivelled round and with beady eyes, took a long stare at the girl. Needles had always thought that humans looked a lot like Bisharp from the woods, and that is why she had always cowered away from them, never got close enough to see. But Needles had seen that their paws aren't blades and their body isn't as hard as metal, humans were soft and had dainty hands. Maybe that made them kind, but it also made them weak. Needles knew she was tougher because she had claws and teeth. Her ideology stated that the tougher should be the leader. Chandra got the vibe that Needles was angry at her, and that she seemed to be sizing her up. She didn’t even know that Needles was bright enough to consider things, having only see Needles attack before. So she, for once, wasn’t surprised when Needles started running towards her aggressively, though was a little disappointed in the aggressive Nidoran. Fortunately for Chandra though Needle’s Tauros-charge was anticlimactic, as Needles charge was slowed by the mud covered all her legs. The mud-swimming went on for a good thirty seconds, and by that time Chandra felt amused and generous. Not even that angry any more. Curses! Chandra picked Nidoran up by the scruff of her neck. She figured that Needles was too small to be in any danger of neck injury, and didn't want to get mud on herself. The Nidoran shook her mud-caked legs angrily at Chandra and gave a ridiculed yip. There was blobby, brown mud smeared all over her muzzle, tail and underbelly, whilst her legs legs were dripping with it. Chandra still had a little anger but most of it had seeped away. “What are we going to do with you, little mate.” |

No. She needed to remain serious at least. Wagging a finger, Chandra twisted her face to look menacing. “That was so mean Needles! What are you, like, mental or something? You look well confused but that doesn't mean you can go out and like, attack everything!” There was a pause and Chandra liked to imagine Needles was listening. “I’m here for you little mate! And you’re supposed to be there for me. But you’re just running through mud scaring away everyone!” Another pause. Chandra let her face relax a little as she pondered aloud. “Now how are we going to clean you up? You got all submerged in the stuff and I don’t want you get it over my clothes. We need water.” Chandra looked over to the river. “…And I guess there is water but how are we going to get you clean? I’ve heard that river is, like, really fast.” She put Needles down and positioned the Nidoran between her legs as she rummaged around her backpack for a plastic bag. There. Now she could carry Needles around without getting muddy. Chandra walked over the bridge, being careful not to slip into the mud. It really was a beautiful bridge so as she walked up it her hands slipped over the smooth rail, subconsciously admiring the woodwork skills. By the middle of the bridge she stopped and looked down to the river. Sigh. From above, the river looked a lot less perfect and a lot more menacing. It not for the foamy water, the river was clear so that you could see the blunted rocks at the bottom of it. She imagined many had been enticed by this and decided to swim across, underestimating the force of the river. A stick underneath the bridge whizzed past her, confirming the frightening speed of the water. There was no way Chandra could get in and live. She didn’t even know how to swim. Still though, Needles was wet and this was the only water source around. Soon the mud on Nidoran would dry up and make it impossible for the Nidoran to walk. Why did Needles have to go trek through the mud? Whatever. Always stay positive. For a few minutes she tried, slightly frustrated, brainstorming ways to clean up the Nidoran. Meanwhile Needles was feeling slightly dazed. She was pretty sure that the girl knew that she was confused. She felt a little depressed that the girl had beaten her so easily and annoyed at herself at underestimating the girl. But she was relieved too, but she didn’t know why. Maybe Needles now knew that there was a social hierarchy, which had relieved her because she had been worried that all was chaos in this weird world, or maybe she was pleasantly surprised by how forgiving the girl was. Needles had made mistakes in human’s eyes’ before and the human had not been so forgiving. Needles shivered when she remembered her past human. Maybe her past… life was what was making her so jumpy. Still, she wanted to get out of the bag she was in but didn’t know how. This girl was still strange and she didn’t want to get her guard down. There was a growling sound from one side of the bridge, and maliciousness made Chandra turn. There was a brown watchdog giving Chandra a judging stare. In its clawed had it held a muddy Patrat with big eyes. Chandra was a little startled by the site, and crossed her fingers behind her back that this muddy Patrat she was not the one that Needles had chased before, seeking for vengeance. Because it looked like that to her. She surprised herself by feeling intimated by the watchdog, specifically by its huge bulging eyes. There was some kind of communication between the two Pokémon before the watchdog advanced towards her. “Hey, we don’t want any trouble…” she called cautiously, before taking a small step back. And then the watchdog was there in front of her. And then it was grabbing the plastic bag. And then she was resisting, getting cut, quickly inspecting the pain. And then it had the bag with Needles in it. And then it threw Needles in the river. And then she wondered why time had seemed to speed up at such a terrifying moment. And then Chandra was back to reality. “What!?” She screeched. She picked up the watchog and shook it angrily, “WHY THE PHIONE WOULD YOU DO THAT!?” The watchog slashed at Chandra’s arms and a few more pink cuts appeared on her arms, stinging like tiny licks of flames. Chandra made a quiet unintelligible sound of remorse before sprinting off down the river, following the plastic bag. |

Pokemon encounter link- please keep in mind the battle is later c: Little voices screamed in her head, trying to get noticed above Chandra’s beating heart. Voices of irony, of stating how it was the second time she was running around after Needles within ten minutes. She flicked her hair out of her eyes and felt wind brush past her face. Another little voice: “At this rate you’ll be in athlete by next week.” For a single second she stopped by the river bank. The stupid mud she had invested her effort in avoiding was right there in front of her and she needed to power through it. With a little cringe, she continued running, through the mud, all the while feeling guilty of her actions, of how she had just let that evil watchog throw Needles in the river. She tried to let the negative emotion blow away from her by running as fast as she could, powering through the mud that was seeping into her trainers and crawling up her legs. Her eyes remained on the river. Needles wasn’t sinking, not anywhere near the sort, and you could see her frantic struggles through the white bag. What was worse was that the distance between Pokémon and trainer was widening by the second. She was too slow and the river was too fast. There needed to be something she could do, but unfortunately she had already left her pack, complete with a rope and other useful gear, at the bridge. Oh. Wait. Was that a log up ahead? She squinted. Like from a story, a damp black tree seemed to have fallen down over the top of the bridge. It looked weak with the water that clogged the trunk. The branches seemed to have all fallen away. Yes, Yes Yes! She thought. I can get across and save Needles! Thank mew. Thank Arceus! She kept trying to run through the mud, but her hopes had pinned on the log. The bag caught, causing Chandra to breath a relieve sigh. Phew. Now I just need to rescue her. Oh thank Mew! The chances seemed so slim and yet the odds have been in my favour! Finally! She caught up to the bag, but understood that the rescue was not yet over. She still needed luck that the log would hold, after all her inability to swim would man she was doomed if it broke. Her plan was simple: slip across and get Needles. An ominous thought had been pressed into Chandra be some sixth sense: she needed to hurry. She was on a time limit. She didn’t know why but it seemed instinctual and made Chandra panic more. Great. I’m panicking. And guilty. So many bad emotions. Why me? Why now at the start of this thing!? Chandra gasped for air. Running had been hard enough without having to power through mud as well. She tried to crawl onto the log. Her arms sank into the mud and her clothes swathed themselves in the slimy stuff as well. By the time she had put her hand on the log though, she knew it was a bad idea. The rotted tree seemed to make an awful, soppy crackling sound and it was then she knew there was no way she could not get on the log by herself. “HELP!” she screamed. “HELP!” maybe there would be a swimmer nearby, up for a challenge? Maybe there would be a fisherman on the other side. Maybe further downstream there was someone that could help? “PLEASE! SOMEBODY PLEASE!” Her stomach lurched as she heard that wet crackly sound again. “PLEASE!?” Her panicked wails continued for the next half a minute, but Chandra finally heard some rustling, from what looked like a muddy hole half a few meters away. “You have to help me!” She called to the rustling sound hoarsely. It sounded like a Pokémon. A lone Krabby wandered out of the hole. It’s eyes twitched carefully about. “Look! Hey!” Her voice was full of pleading desperation. She didn’t even know why she was shouting. This place was supposed to be quiet and now she was ruining its gentile atmosphere. The Krabby did not seem amused by her spectacle and turned to leave. She was annoyed that such an able creature was ignoring her and ignoring a fellow Pokémon. “Please!?” The wailing seemed instinctual now, leaving her time for her eyes to float across to Needles, probably as panicked as she was, struggling in the bag. Her sadness jolted her with an idea; she withdrew her emergency potion from her pocket and raised it. “Please! I have this! You can have it if you help me! Please!” The log made another crackling sound and Chandra put down the potion in order to straighten and support it. The moment all felt so intense to her that when some water splashed into her face she couldn’t remember if she had been crying or if the river just wanted to make her suffer. Looking up to the Krabby again, she felt a spray of relief when she saw the Crabby come towards her. It had obviously been interested by the potion., and had definitely known that it was beneficial. “Please! I’ll give you this potion if you get that plastic bag in it. It has my Pokémon in it! Please!” How many times had Chandra said please? The little voices in her head were counting up those trivial thoughts again. The Krabby snatched his the potion bottle out of her wet, muddy hands. It slowly and deliberately shook the bottle to confirm it had contents in it. To Chandra it had seemed like the sly Pokémon might wander off with it, so she pulled the bottle away from its grip. “I- please I’ll carry this. You can have it if you please just rescue Needles.” |

She still didn’t know how the Krabby could understand her, but she kept her hand around the potion anyway and watched, wet and muddy, as the water Pokémon gave her a resentful look and clamber onto the log. She couldn’t ignore the treacherous vibe that she felt radiating off of Krabby but also couldn’t turn her only source of help away. She didn’t think it deserved the potion, but had to go along with it anyway for Needles. It took only a few seconds for the Krabby to climb into the water and, with its impractically sharp claws, pinch the bag and drag it out of harm’s way, which in this instance meant out of the centre of the river where the strongest current was. Chandra could hear Needles’ gasps and angry squeals and see the water that had accumulated at the bottom of the bag. She reached out to the two Pokemon, but Krabby held out a claw; it wanted the potion before it gave Chandra her Nidoran. “Here. Have it.” She said, thrusting out her hand with the potion, her voice desperate and angry at the same time. Krabby lugged the bag onto shore and scuttled away with the potion. Chandra had to reach out the bag before it slipped back into the water again. “Oh mew.” She fell back into the mud as she squeezed the bag close to her chest. Needles was squirming around her grip evasively, so she ripped the plastic bag open to retrieve her. Chandra kept a close grip as she watched water stream out of the bag. Needles coughed, water and muddy flecks shooting out of her mouth, making Chandra assume that Needles had already caused damage to herself. Now that Chandra had Needles, she started, quite suddenly, crying. Crying in shock. Crying into Needles and crying into the mud. The whole ordeal had only been less than five minutes long. And yet it had made Chandra feel so, insanely panicked, and terrified, and guilty that her emotions seemed to have overloaded. She could barely comprehend what had happened. It was all just so quick. So strange. It had weighed down on her and there seemed no other way to let it, the emotions, out of her. Needles seemed to struggle a little, but after a little while she stopped, and seemed to savour Chandra’s body heat. Chandra repeated sad strangled, sounds of relief. Things like: “What just happened?” and “oh mew I’m sorry.” The fact that Needles could still be suffering brought her back to reality. She got back up out of the mud and shook her head from side to side. The mud was sapping the warmth from her body so that she could see the hairs on her arms prick up defensively. A few deep breaths. Needles felt limp, Chandra wandered if she had fainted. A few more deep breaths. And then she trudged out of the mud slowly, the squelching sounds from the mud making her cringe. “Oh mew, Needles. Oh mew.” She repeated sadly, in a daze. By the time she got out of the mud she felt tempted to faint, or get out of her clothes and snuggle into a non-existent blanket. Everything felt heavy, yet still she trudged on. She needed to get to her backpack. “Phew,” Chandra smiled sadly. “We got you Needles. We wouldn’t let you go down the river.” She started feeling calmer, more reassured. And then they were at her pack. She took out her blanket, as something subconscious had told her to sleep off the shock of what had just happened. She didn’t return Needles into the Pokéball, instead did all actions with one arm, such as taking out a dry pillow and cradled her distressed Pokémon with the other. “It’ll be alright.” She muttered faintly. She didn’t know if she talking to herself of Needles. Clambering into the makeshift bed, the last thing she was the blue sky for she fell into a panicked, edgy slumber. |

…And then woke up, what seemed like a few minutes later, to the sound on Needles yipping angrily. She opened her eyes blearily. Needles prancing about her pack. “wha-” she rubbed her face because there seemed to be some sticky itch upon it. Was that a scab? No, a dried fleck of mud was balanced on her finger. Oh. Oh that’s right. That’s probably why she had gotten that weird nightmare, that had made her feel guilty even though she didn’t know why. She had just fallen asleep after needles fell- no, got dropped- in the river. She ripped her blanket off her body, the encrusted mud that had nearly stuck her legs and the blanket together causing difficulties. “Nee-” she was trying to focus her gaze on the blue dancer, “Needles, what are you doing? What’s going on?” Initially she had been worried that Needles would have been hurt or have a fever, after the river and all its freezing water, but obviously she had warmed up during their rest together. Needles yipped again, and then growled. Chandra tried to figure out what Needles was trying to tell her. An orange shape with some little wobbly blue thing seemed to be scuttling about her pack. It took a few moments to realise that it was a Krabby scuttling about. It had a tin of Pokémon food in one hand, that it had clearly stolen. “Hey!” She called, her shout sounding more like a complaint. “Hey! That’s mine! Give it back!” She walked up towards them, little flakes of dried mud splitting off and floating off her legs as she did so. “Whad’re you doing?” She stood over the river crab Pokémon and tried to look threatening, putting her hands on her hips. Chandra was surprisingly awake after being asleep a few minutes ago. The Krabby hadn’t been acknowledging Chandra’s presence until it felt the shadow upon it. It raised claw and squinted its eyes at her, trying to meet her eyes. In its claw it held one of her scarves and flip mirror that Chandra often used. Whilst Chandra tried to analyse the situation, she only noticed the Krabby pointing the other claw at her half as much as she should have. Battle! Needles saw the water gun “attack” before her trainer did. The girl seemed too busy to see what the orange creature was stealing. It was that blue thing that had done it, after the orange one pointed at Chandra. The attack was aimed at the girl, and Needles flung herself into the attack side on to defend the girl. She didn’t even know if she should be defending the girl, after all she had let that evil bully push her into the river, yet it had seemed like the right thing to do to the point that Needles didn’t really do it without thinking. In fact, she only really thought about it when she felt the soft, bruise like ripple travel painfully throughout her chest where the water had pushed against her meaning that she had indeed suffered for the girl. Needles supposed that it had probably been Chandra’s extremely… emotional reaction that had made Needles feel sorry for. The girl certainly loved Needles a lot more than Needles loved her back and even though she decided that relationship was good a little loyalty was probably needed. Chandra looked down at the sound of a small jet of water hit. She didn’t’ know if her Pokémon had a “poker” face, but she certainly couldn’t see any hurt reaction from Needles. In fact, Needles seemed anticipating something, and it only took a moment to find out what that something was. Needles wanted to attack. Yet this time, she waited for Chandra’s permission. That was surprising, and… new. But hold up. There. There was a trail of water leading to a small Wooper with a hesitant look. Chandra momentarily wondered why and ow such an adorable creature could cause anyone harm, let alone on the order of a stealing Seviper of a Krabby. The thought was ground out of her as her instincts accused the Wooper of playing a cutesy act. “That wasn’t nice man.” She told it. “…And yes Needles. I can see you’re dying to give it a piece of your mind… and I know this is how these Pokémon battles are supposed to work. Use scratch. We.. just need to weaken it enough to get to that thieving Krabby.” Her voice was hesitant and jumpy, but Needles seemed extremely obedient and Chandra suspected that the idea of violence had fuelled the compliance. Needles charged at the Wooper, however before Needles could come close, another little jet of stream pushed her back. The Wooper did not want a charge to the face, let alone a vicious scratch. Needles still “landed” the scratch, as a more experienced trainer would say, though it certainly wasn’t a critical scratch. The wooper cringed unhappily, recoiled a little where Needles claws had gone through a couple layers of skin before standing up to Needles. Chandra knew little on the knowings of battle, but she did know both of the Pokémon battling, had tough defences, or at least tough pride and resilience. “Use Tail Whip Needles. This thing has some pretty high defence.” She didn’t even know how such a move was supposed to work, but watched Needles carefully because she seemed to. Needles meanwhile was telling herself that she wasn’t following her trainer, and that she herself would have been doing exactly the same thing even if the girl wasn’t there. Somehow she had seemed a little less obedient and a little more annoyed after being soaked a second time. The second time had hit her head, and it had started to feel sore. Tail whip would lighten her move. It amused her as much as it decreased the guard of her opponent. She advanced on the blue thing backwards so that she was wagging her backside at it, in what she hoped was an intimating way. The blue thing retreated, unamused and repulsed. Perfect. This always made the opponent less ready for her attacks. In fact, she felt pumped up enough to whip around and scratch savagely at the blue thing again. Maybe this time the attack would be better. However, Needles didn’t see that the Wooper had been making a weird wall of mud around itself. Chandra did. “That’s mud sport isn’t it?” She murmured. That was only supposed to effect electric type moves and yet, in that instance, it seemed to block Needles’ scratch attack. “Needles just… wait until it gets rid of all that mud and then scratch again. You’re really doing this little mate!” Flecks of mud from the Wooper’s attack flitted after a few seconds. Chandra was eager with her clawed paw outstretched ready to attack, but the Wooper disappeared. The mud sport attack had concealed the Wooper, and then it was gone. “Oh dear.” Chandra rubbed her sweaty hands together and then trainer and Pokémon looked around for the missing opponent, Needles a lot more eager than her human companion. “There!” Chandra said. She sighed a little, because she wasn’t sure battling was cut out for her. She just wanted to see the sites but everything seemed to be going wrong. There were two forms running away through the tall grass. The Wooper was considerably slower, being tired out a little already and balancing Chandra’s soap on her head. Chandra could not see the Crabby’s head, and she cursed herself a little for not looking out for the main threat. She had just been watching the battle, the first battle she had ever had. Though Krabby and its sidekick had made off with her. And so they were running again, running after the two culprits. Needles knew that the Krabby was the one she should go for and she knew that catching it was important. Speeding ahead of the girl and the blue thing, who she still wanted revenge for after it had outsmarted her, her leg muscles ached for the second time she had been in this dreadful river area. Bite. Scrape. Needles tried to bite the Krabby, but the teeth just scraped off the metallic, hard skin. Needles fell behind unhappily, but motivated herself to run up and try for a second time. It would be too late if they got into the mud banks again. The girl was already a sorry site of crispy mud as it was. Needles got up to a point that she was running alongside the Krabby and urgh, she could smell the thing now and realised this thing was the Krabby that saved her before. Maybe other Pokémon might have slowed down because of this, but it made Needles fire burn stronger. How dare it come back for more supplies? After the girl had been so nice as to give it a potion. She went in for the scratch attack, but before she could it clamped Needles with one claw and squeezed her as hard as it could. Needles felt the air leaving her lungs so that she made a strangled “Ehhk” sound. Needles was being dragged along the ground before Needles felt the Krabby lift her up so her feet dangled hesitantly above the ground until it flung her back towards Chandra and the Wooper. Needles was faster than Chandra as she had stronger leg muscles, so Chandra had almost stopped when she reached up to the hurt Wooper because she knew she wouldn’t catch up to Needles or the Krabby. In fact, she had scooped the Wooper up into to her arms and started breathlessly scalding it as she ran. After all, Chandra didn’t have the character to personally hurt anything even if that anything had stolen her. To her Needles hurting something was a very different scenario. So there she was, the sun gazing over her and her legs aching, annoyed that yet again they would have to run. Her shoes made a dreary thudding sound as she ran, the dried mud dulling the sound. Every few seconds another chunk of mud making its way out of her skirt or socks. Needles and the Krabby had sped off into the grass and she probably wouldn’t have caught up with them even if she tried; the tall grass was covering them and constantly shaking worriedly in the wind. However when Needles was flung backwards, for a few graceful seconds she flew over the grass before landing in a slumped pile with a few muttered groans of pain. “Needles!” Chandra shrieked. A few birds in the trees flew off out of trees nearby, startled by the loud sound. Chandra stopped running with a sudden halt that kicked up some dirt. She flung the Wooper unintentionally away from her as she dived towards her Pokémon. Oh no, oh no! Why is it always poor Needles that is hurt. thought Chandra guiltily. “It’s alright little mate.” She said reassuringly. Instead of picking Needles up and cradling her, she won over her natural instincts and professionally turned Needles on the side to inspect for injuries. “It’s alright.” There was a purple bruise that was growing at every passing second. The site of it made Chandra cringe painfully. “All, alright little mate.” She said after inspecting the injuries more thoroughly. “It’s just a nasty bruise.” Chandra looked up to see the Wooper watching curiously from a distance, sheltered from the heat and from obvious site behind a small clump of river flowers. Gone was the stolen soap, present was naked emotion. “I don’t care if Needles scratched you, buddy. Look what’s become of your idiocy. You are an idiot Wooper. Why the heck were you following a… a thieving shit like Krabby. Little things mean a lot to me, buddy. Bruises might not mean a lot out here. But I pride myself in looking after my Pokémon. You’re not a cutesy daydream, your tough. And tough isn’t good when it’s against me.” The Wooper didn’t know what the girl was saying, but she caught the tone of voice and knew that the girl’s entire, confusingly angry concentration and attention was focused on her. It was negative energy, she could see clearly, but it was still the first time she had gotten any attention besides the goo- goo awwing she had only ever had before them. Maybe she should steal more often. She turned to leave, but felt some charismatic element draw her back to staring at the girl. And then the thought came in a sudden burst. Maybe this was the only chance she would get to travel. The Wooper had always wanted to travel, and the pangs for adventure came so badly to her that it made her a self-sympathizer and a questioner of her own existence sometimes. The Wooper had started frowning now. It looked to Chandra like it was considering something very touchy and sensitive. Chandra was wondering if it was considering apologising to her. Needles let out an unhappy cough, and Chandra wasn’t sure it was from legitimate pain or the lack of attention. The bruise had gotten bigger and worse, you could see the blood rising and bulging around it. “It’s alright little mate.” She whispered soothingly, running her hand along Needles’ spine softly. When she looked up, the Wooper had approached her, looking even more cautious than she had ever seen it. “What’s up buddy… ach, I’ll call you Grace. What’s up Grace? Do you want to apologize?” It just nuzzled her hand with its smooth, cool head. I want to see the world. Chandra felt the words coming off the Wooper in a radiative vibe. “Wait what?” Chandra withdrew her arm unhappily. “But you stole from me. You hurt Needles. Needles is hurt.” She repeated the last sentence out of disorientated confusion. The Wooper seemed to hop away. It didn’t know what the girl was trying to ask of it so it was confused. It went off and didn’t return for a few minutes, but then came back with a Pokéball. “Huh.” She said, with her forehead creased, “You must have been pretty damn fast to run off to my pack and get a Pokéball.” She stood up, and gently picked Needles, who was coughing again, “fine then.” She said, resigned and tired, “I guess that settles it then.” Her face was still wrinkled sadly. She took the Pokéball from the Wooper and dropped it, capturing the Wooper. “Hmmph.” She looked at Needles, who was looking directly at her with a very annoyed expression. She was sure that Needles was unhappy that she had caught the Wooper, no, Grace. But that didn’t matter now. “Come on Needles. Let’s get back to the pack. I want to get out of here until something else happens. This place is annoying me. Creeping me out. Don’t know about you.” |
