Darkness converged on the world all those months ago... and I was unable to stop it... I failed twice to protect the universe from Master’s evil... I will never do so again. - Sairai, date unknown The Changeling looked out over the world, his eyes stinging from the wind blowing into his face. He could feel the world around him, the many life forms that had taken to calling this universe’s Earth home. He shuddered as a sudden chill entered the air. There was something deeply wrong with this world, the world that the dark being known as Master had flung him into. Master had once claimed he would bring together the strongest beings from across the multiverse in a grand game that would determine the strongest beings in all of existence, something that Sairai himself had little interest in. However, he had been brought into the game against his will, after a devastating loss to the godlike creature. A soft chuckle escaped his lips at the sheer irony of it. He, Sairai, supposedly the universe’s only ‘good’ Changeling, had been turned into just another pawn on Master’s giant game board. The intent of the being to bring the world’s strongest beings into this universe, to play a game with enormous stakes, did not escape the young being, but there did not seem to be a logic to it. What was to stop the strongest from teaming up to take on the dark god themselves, coming together in one grand play to return their universes to the way things were? The answer was actually quite simple. Whether through sheer pride or from knowledge of his own cosmic power, the Master did not fear even the combined force of every being he had taken from their home universes. As the Master had said prior to flinging the young Changeling into this world, this was little more than a game, a small piece of entertainment on the cosmic scale. “The question then becomes... how long does this war go on until he gets bored and devours everything?” Sairai asked himself as he looked into the sky, a sullen look upon his features. Master was beyond powerful. Sairai was one of the strongest beings in the known universe, capable of easily destroying an entire solar system on his own without so much as breaking a sweat. However, even with all of that power, he had been unable to so much as wind the being he had fought all those months ago. Master was strong, stronger than even the strongest fighters in each universe. The only way to defeat something like that would be to ascend to the power of a god, and Sairai was unsure he was capable of controlling that much power, much less worthy of wielding it. Even the Kais, powerful as they are, were unable to match that power of the entity, and that was one of the few instances in the universe’s history in which all of the Kais had come together, even the illustrious Grand Kai himself. “Damn... how in the world is anyone supposed to stand against something like that?”he said as he clenched his fist and allowed his ki to flow through it. There had once been a time when he would have said no matter what the cost, the first thing on his mind was to protect the world from beings like that, but that time had passed when he had been toyed with and defeated by an enemy that no one should ever have had to come up against, an entity that contained within itself the power of an entire universe and to top it off the power of the Namekian Dragon Balls. “He doesn’t seem interested in harvesting the power of the Dragon Balls of this universe, though... I wonder why? Is there a limit even to how much power he can command?” The idea had merit. There was a limit to how much power any physical being was capable of wielding at one time. If that power limit were overloaded, the being would be destroyed. The question remained, however, whether or not that really was why Master had not decided to pursue the Earth or Namekian Dragon Balls of this universe. On the darker side of the spectrum was the idea that Master left them there to offer a chance for others to gather them and use them for their own purposes, to add to the entertainment aspect of the game. Since he carried Dragon Balls within himself, there was nothing capable of wishing him out of existence. He was too powerful for a single wish, or even multiple wishes, to be capable of that, and even with a wish to remove the Dragon Balls from within himself, which he doubted was possible since he had merely absorbed the power, not taken the physical being of the Balls into himself... “Damn... I’m running around in circles again. There must be some way to take out that psychopath,” he whispered, voice barely audible. There was always a weakness, a chink in the armor, something that could destroy even the most battle hardened warrior. “Even a god must be able to be toppled... but what about an entire universe? Master seems to be a sentient version of the underlying root of a universe’s existence. How can you defeat a being of seemingly pure energy?” He pursed his lips and let out a single “Hmm...” as he thought about the process that energy has to take to manifest. “If I remember what I learned during my lessons at the PTO Training Academy, energy can neither be created nor destroyed, but it can shift through the phases of matter and be expended... and scattered by use,” he said, holding up a single finger into the air and writing with his ki in the air before him. “If the energy within a piece of matter was used up, scattered, or absorbed by another... upon reaching zero energy, the originating matter would dematerialize almost instantaneously. At least, that’s the working theory,” he continued, quoting his teacher almost word for word. “Thus, if you cannot overpower another being through sheer power output, turning his own energy against him, or downright removing it from his body, is the next best thing. It will leave him tired, dazed, confused, or better, dead.” The words of the PTO Captain who had taught the class on Energy Consumption rang in his ears even to this day. He could feel the evil intent that the man had crawling out of his lips as he spoke each individual word. Though using the teachings of the PTO was not something that Sairai was particularly fond of, he did see the merit in causing a person, or in this case a “god” to use of every ounce of power he had available until there was nothing left. There was plenty that the Master could use his power to accomplish, perhaps including wiping out entire universes, but if he could be pushed to his limit, if he could be unmade through overuse of his power, perhaps there was a chance to restore everything he had destroyed in the meantime. The Changeling warrior smiled evilly at the thought, his eyes narrowing in a near perfect mockery of his cousin, Frieza. _____ A few hours later, he was walking through the streets of North City, his eyes focusing on each of the humans, the simple beings that had taken him in, allowed him, not without some degree of suspicion, to live among them. He could still feel the stares of the stubborn few who remained suspicious of the motives of an alien living in one of the more inhospitable places on Earth. He had tirelessly explained that North City, with its snow and nearby mountains, provided the young being with the seclusion he required for his martial arts training. Of course, he could feel that the men and women of the city did not entirely believe him, and they had good reason not to. However, he had been a valuable member of the community, performing feats and doing duties that no one else would be able to do without having put in as much training as he had to bring his body to even the meager condition it was now in. He would often complain aloud of the lack of power his body now had, which seemed to confuse a fair share of the local populace. They couldn’t help that the ability to lift thousands of pounds compounded with his ability to fly made him more powerful than anything they could normally imagine. However, it was not enough for the young Changeling. He had once been capable of so much more, and vowed to once again reach that level, with or without the help of his friend John, the man who had originally trained him all those months ago when he had lived in his own universe and not this cruel caricature that was this universe. He could remember the days past when he had helped the Capsule Corporation train some of their higher level security operatives. They screamed daily that he was going to kill them with the amount of pressure he had put on them to succeed, but in a mere two months, they had been capable of handling all but the largest interstellar threats. Now, all that work had gone to waste, unless the being known as Master could be stopped. Sairai carried a pair of shopping bags with him, full of food that he planned to bring to one of the local food shelters nearby. It was one of the many things he did, not just to ingratiate himself to the city, but to help those who were in more desperate need of the food than he himself was. Changeling metabolism allowed him to eat as much or as little as he desired with very little difference in his overall level of health. He dropped the food off, waved off the proffered thanks of the person who was taking donations that day, a spritely little red-haired human named Anna, and walked down one of the nearby alleys before floating to the top of a nearby roof. He hung his heels over the side of the snow covered building as he looked toward the clear blue skies above. “Feels almost like I’m back home, on my Earth,” he said. “Your Earth, huh? You must be another one from the tournament,” a voice spoke out from behind the young Changeling. It was deep, and had the sound of practiced authority, even over those unknown. Turning, Sairai looked upon the face of the being in front of him. Cold, red eyes, indigo reptilian skin, and two horns graced the face of a man that Sairai had sworn he’d never set sights on again. “Frieza...” he said, his breath hardly more than a snarl through which the name could barely be heard. The other Changeling merely stepped forward a few steps, practiced easy poise evident in his gait, as he looked upon the other Changeling with a look of amusement, or perhaps pity. “I see even in this universe my reputation precedes me. I shouldn’t be surprised,” Frieza said, his red eyes piercing through those of his blue eyed counterpart. “After all, I am the most well known universal savior in history.” At the word ‘savior,’ Sairai nearly laughed aloud. A hand went up calmly to his lips to conceal a smile as he looked the shorter being in the eyes. “Savior? You have to be joking. In my home universe, and in this one, the name Frieza is one of terror incarnate, not celebration.” “Terror incarnate?! You can’t be serious. I’ve saved countless planets from the tyranny of others, and you claim that I’m some kind of evil monster?” “Well, it takes all kinds, Lord Frieza. In this universe, and in my home universe, Frieza is the Lord of the Planetary Trade Organization, a black market where anything you could possibly desire, from household goods to planets and entire galaxies, are yours for the taking... if you have the money. The Cold Clan is part of the reason that I left our home world in the first place. I wanted to do good, not just work for profit.” The Frieza standing before Sairai seemed almost crushed by the words spoken by his fellow Changeling. “I suppose it’s only natural that different versions of oneself would exist. May I ask your name? You seem to be a member of Clan Fallen Snow, if I don’t entirely mistake the color of your armor scales and eyes.” Sairai stood up as straight as possible, his tail planted firmly on the ground behind him, eyes forward. “I am Sairai Sekisetsu, of Clan Fallen Snow... the last surviving member,” he said, remembering that his entire family, including his self-involved older brother, was now dead and possibly absorbed by Master. “Sairai?” Frieza asked, before he started laughing. “You’re the counterpart of my most hated cousin?!” He bent over at the waste, his laughter bellowing out over the city beneath them. “I take it in your universe I’m a jerk, then?” Sairai asked, his face betraying his interest in the topic of other selves. “A jerk? A bit of a light label, if you ask me. In my universe, you are the head of the PTO, the greatest tyrant who ever lived.” Sairai could just picture himself wearing the signature cape of King Cold, only blue, his own intimidating form sitting upon the throne, throwing out commands, barking orders, and killing subordinates left and right. “Well, then... that’s definitely interesting. How in the world did the Fallen Snow Clan end up in charge of the PTO?” “Simple. Your clan established it, after slaying my grandfather in single combat and taking over the leadership of the Changeling race... for the worst. The current Emperor, Sairai, has been in control for only a few short years, but has, in that time, tripled the number of ‘colonized’ planets in the galaxy and quadrupled income through various... less than appealing tactics.” “Effective, but strangely unappealing, huh?” Sairai asked as he cupped his chin in both hands, interested in the story of himself as a tyrannical ruler, as unlikely as it sounded. “Indeed. Your other self is a genius at fixing prices and working with the most unsavory people to attain what he desires, regardless of what it is. He’ll also personally oversee any particularly... difficult projects, and his power is nothing to sneeze at. I’ve never been able to take him on one on one. He’s... too powerful, one of the most powerful people in the galaxy, and I’d wager he has the rest of the most powerful people on his payroll.” Sairai couldn’t help but laugh at the unlikeliness of it all. To think that he would be the ruler of the PTO, and the most effective tyrant in history in another life. “So...” he asked as he brought his hands down into his lap, his eyes looking at this Frieza as a potential ally. “What are the odds that he ended up in this world, same as us?” “Since this... ‘Master’ character is looking for each universe’s strongest fighters to toss in against each other, I’d place the odds at roughly one hundred to one that your counterpart, my nemesis, is participating, and possibly even working for this... thing. Tell me, what do you know of ‘Master?” Sairai looked down at the roof of the building as he pursed his lips in thought. “Well, it’s not going to be the answer you’re looking for, I assure you. I was one of the most powerful beings from my own home universe... the very same universe that Master himself entered this one from.” The smaller, horned Changeling looked at the man sitting before him in shock. While he had hoped for some small modicum of information from the other man regarding his origins and the possible power of the Master, he had evidently not hoped that he would come across a being from that universe. “So... you know about him?” “Know about him? I fought him... just before this game was started. I’m sure you can guess the outcome,” Sairai said, his mouth bent into a bitter frown. “He... it is an insanely powerful entity. It takes on a form very similar to that of a Changeling, but the power... the very malicious intent radiating off of it gives it a very... otherworldly feeling. You can tell it is not from one of the mortal races. It is something... above and beyond our understanding. Even the Other World doesn’t have a fighter than compares to this thing... this anti-god.” Frieza gripped his hand into a fist as he heard the other man speak, recounting the events of the battle on Namek, the final battle before the institution of the Grand Game. He asked for several explanations of the attacks used, the sheer power of them, and the makeup of the being’s energy. “It’s as I said. His power’s beyond anything I’ve ever encountered before... even with the amount of power he used against me...” Sairai shuddered, holding his arms against his chest protectively. “I don’t even think he was fighting at a fraction of his full strength, and when he absorbed the power of the Dragon Balls, he only got stronger.” “Th-the Dragon Balls?!” Frieza nearly screamed as Sairai nodded, knowing that for anyone who knew a thing about those magical wishing artifacts, this would come as a devastating blow. “Sapped the power right from them... the Namekian Dragon Balls...” Sairai said with a grim look on his face. “I was powerless to stop him. He used the power to tear holes in space-time itself and brought me to this world with him. I woke up here on Earth about a week later, in a hospital room. The doctors told me that there was nothing wrong with me physically, but that I’d been in a coma for a week.” A sigh escaped the being’s lips as he looked at the Frieza standing before him. “I can only imagine that Master kept me in a magically induced sleep long enough to set the game up and drag others from their homes to this world and woke me up upon the start of things.” “Sounds likely... so you’re telling me this thing has the power to alter reality as we know it, and to top it off was already powerful enough to toy with you from the beginning?” “I think it was toying with me... I thought for a moment, before it absorbed the power of the Dragon Balls that I might have been pushing it to the absolute furthest extent of its power, but when it took that other power... It was like an entire universe worth of darkness entered the Master... I can only assume that was the remaining ninety-nine percent of his power coming from his home dimension to ours... After that, it was over... He’d lead me on into thinking I had a chance for a few moments before unleashing hell on me again.” The Changeling sighed at his ‘cousin’ with a slight frown, eyes closed. “I honestly never stood a chance, not the slightest bit of one.” “So, your power, the power you had used to protect the universe from people like that... thing, was meaningless before Master?” “Entirely meaningless... His darkness snuffed out the light of my ki in mere moments. I didn’t even see half of what he did.” The thought that there was a being that one of the strongest beings in the universe couldn’t even stand toe to toe with was enough to send Frieza into a stunned silence. He dropped to his knees and planted both palms firmly on the roof beneath them. “No... You’re sitting here trying to tell me there’s no hope?” the smaller man whispered. “Not quite... I think it’s possible to beat this thing. Regardless of how strong he’s become, everything and everyone has a fatal weakness. We just need to stall long enough to figure out what Master’s is... I just have a bad feeling that this creature is going to get bored with this universe relatively quickly, though quickly to a cosmic being might be different than quickly to us of the mortal races. I think we’re merely on a very limited timeline with no idea when the end of that line is coming. My idea is we get him to show himself... we might be able to find some technique, some... power that can fight this abysmal creation off. If not, at least we tried to stop him from doing to every other universe what he did to mine,” Sairai said, looking up into the sky just in time to catch a single falling star entering the atmosphere. “And if there’s nothing we can do to put a chink in his armor?” Frieza asked, intrigued at the other man’s possible answer. “Then we throw everything we have at him and hope it’s enough to render him into nothing more than a stain on history’s pages.” Sairai said as he stood up, his eyes lighting up brightly as he looked at the other Changeling before him. “You are a fairly good orator, I’ll give you that. You’ve almost got me buying this all-or-nothing gambit of yours. I don’t think it will work, but I don’t have any other ideas, so if you need my help, you’ve got it.” “Thanks... I have a feeling we’re going to need all the help we can get... especially if any version of me is working for Master... I hate to sound arrogant, but I know myself well enough to know that I won’t tolerate working for anyone for anything other than a limited amount of time, and I wouldn’t be surprised if the other me has a similar idea on how to take Master down and take over the Game himself... with all the possible allies, enemies, and conquerable universes out there... I doubt he’d be willing to give up that chance.” “I know him well enough to know for a fact he would not. There’s not a chance in this universe or any other that Emperor Sairai would ever give up an opportunity for this kind of conquest.” “Then we’re in agreement. You can return with me to my... mountain base, if you’d like, so we can discuss this in more detail and test one another in a little spar.” “A spar, you say? Well, I’m not quite where I was before I was taken into this world...” “I doubt any of us are,” Sairai said, referring to everyone that had been dragged into the game from their own home universe. “It seems as though we were all put on an even, low power level so that each of us would have to grow in power with an even opportunity for everyone to win,” Sairai said, before scratching his head and laughing lightly. “At least... that’s my guess.” “A fair one... though I think that if I were this Master guy, I would fix the rules in my favor and give anyone who offered to work for me an... advantage in terms of power.” Sairai thought back to his battle in East City with the demon Balzar, the power that being had in comparison to his own at the time. “It’s not unlikely. I’ve fought Master’s flunkies before, and the amount of power he’s capable of giving them... is unreal, beyond anything you’ve probably experience. From a fraction of his power, he could create an army equally as strong as I was in my home universe without breaking a sweat. It’s scary how powerful he could make the people who decided, especially of their own free will, to serve him.” “There was one, named Oroki, that he actually possessed in North City, and destroyed a good chunk of the city in my home universe. I heard about it, but I wasn’t actually there... I was busy dealing with my own problems in East City... Due to the unforeseen consequences of using the Super Nova... I ended up leveling a majority of the city. Thankfully during the fight, most of the people in the area evacuated. The destruction was still bad, though.” “It must have been the only way you could think of to destroy the... thing you were fighting, though,” Frieza said. “Odd having my least favorite cousin console me.” “How do you think I feel consoling the most tyrannical emperor the PTO has ever had? If your other self were here, he’d die from the sheer amount of care you give to what he would call necessary collateral damage.” Sairai merely smiled lightly and motioned for Frieza to follow him as he ascended into the air. Together, the two flew off toward the mountain ‘base’ of the Changeling Mystic. -------------- Frieza and Sairai touched down on the peak of a mountain about twenty miles outside of town as black clouds began to gather overhead. The Changelings looked at each other and smiled. “Looks like we’ll have to compete with more than each other,” Frieza said, his hand over his lips as he fought back a small chuckle. Sairai could only smile and nod. “The elements. Ever done lightning dodging before? It’s pretty thrilling,” the younger Changeling said. The other man merely shook his head and said, “Until someone gets hit, you mean.” “It’s no worse than being hit with a ki bolt, and the pain only lasts for a few seconds. The rush afterwards can heighten your senses for a short time, though.” “I learned that from my father. Adrenaline boosts can make time seem to slow down around you. It comes at a cost, though. You’ll get fatigued more easily,” Frieza said as he brought himself down into a fighting stance. Sairai adopted the style of the Turtle Hermit school as he brought his center of balance down, his eyes never leaving those of the double of the Changeling Lord he hated with all his being. “Turtle Style... you were a student of Master Roshi?” Frieza asked, the interest written clearly across his face. “And you seem to have been a student of Master Shen, using the Crane Style pose. I can only imagine that their roles were reversed in our respective universes as well,” Sairai said as the two of them allowed their ki to spike, blue and purple energy radiating together into a huge indigo spike that lit up the rapidly darkening sky. “The storm’s coming hard and fast,” Sairai said as he felt his ki hit its absolute apex. “You’re right... we shouldn’t waste this opportunity to see what we’re really made of,” Frieza responded, his eyes narrowing slightly as the two of them took off toward one another. Sairai’s fist collided with Frieza’s outstretched foot. The two of them clasped onto each other as they rose into the sky at a furious pace. With a shock of ki running down his leg, Frieza forced Sairai’s hand off of his foot and spun in midair, bringing the thickest part of his tail across the younger Changeling’s face. Sairai’s head snapped to the side, but he quickly gripped the other man’s tail and spun him around, tossing him toward the mountain peaks below. With an outstretched palm, he unleashed a mighty ki wave toward the older man and watched with a slight grin as it slammed with full force into his back, plowing him into one of the valleys below. Before he could react, however, he felt a hard knee catch him in his abdomen. A long grunt issued from the man’s lips as he pushed against Frieza’s leg and punched him square on the bottom of the jaw, rocking the other Changeling’s head with the force of a semi truck. Instead of fighting the momentum of the punch, Frieza caught it and flipped in the air, bringing a ki ball over his head and slamming it into Sairai’s head. The blue Changeling merely screamed loudly, unleashing a blast of sonic ki that dissipated the attack. “Why haven’t you transformed yet, Frieza?” Sairai asked as he slowly backed up from the man before him. “As many battles as you’ve been in, you have to have at least achieved full control of your second or third form.” “Is that why you look so much different than me? It’s a transformation? I thought that your appearance was merely how Changelings appeared in your universe. What level of transformation are you at?” “Fourth Form, the most powerful of the known forms of the Changeling race in my home universe. Only my Lord Frieza and Lord Cooler know how to fully control it... well, aside from myself,” Sairai said as he looked at the older man with a smirk of amusement. The icy winds began to pick up as the clouds overhead began to darken from a light gray to an almost pitch black. “Push your power beyond its current limits and you’ll change. It’s the way I learned how. It’s a level of power locked inside you, and if I were to hazard a guess, my other self also knows this technique. It would explain how he could take over the PTO at such a young age.” “Yeah... it would,” Frieza said as he pushed his power to its limit and beyond. As he did so, Sairai merely watched as the man activated a transformation that could tip the scales in his favor. For all the training Sairai had done, the full power of his transformation was still sealed. He had the approximate power of a First Form, not a Fourth Form. A Second Form Changeling could possibly completely destroy him, not that that was something he thought the violet Changeling was capable of doing. Frieza’s form started to grow, but something seemed off. His power was fluctuating wildly and it collapsed in on him, returning him to his normal size. Sairai scratched his head at the spectacle. “Seems I don’t have enough power to punch through that particular barrier yet, Sairai... sorry to disappoint you,” Frieza said as his ki began to level back out. “Don’t worry about it. Even though I’m still in the Fourth Form, my power is limited to that of a First Form... it seems that Master really did rob us of most of our power. We’ll have to train hard to make it back to the level we were at before we were transferred here. That arrogant bastard, putting us all back at the lowest level of our power... I can’t believe all of my skills in my home universe are useless here!” Sairai nearly screamed as he looked up into the lightning flashing above them. “Regardless, Sairai... it seems we have some training to do if we are to return to our former status as true masters of our crafts,” Frieza said in the most friendly manner he could as he slammed his fist into the other man’s head. Sairai could feel the force of the blow as the first snow flurries began to dance around the two. “Cold and Snow... we seem to be a perfect match,” Sairai said as he brought his knee up into the other man’s face with a swift speed burst. He brought both hands up into the air and clasped them together, before hammering the two of them into the small of Frieza’s back, sending him plummeting to the earth below. “Indeed!” Frieza said as he appeared behind Sairai, only to have his fist blocked by the younger Changeling’s tail. Sairai gripped the other man’s midsection tightly and brought him forward quickly for a hard elbow to the ribs. Frieza doubled over for a split second, but that was all Sairai needed as he positioned his hands behind him in a manner similar to that of a pair of jet engines. His tail let go quickly as he unleashed a twin torrent of ki energy from his hands, which slammed into the man behind him with full force. As Frieza flew backward, Sairai laughed and said, “Not quite a Kamehameha, but it’ll do.” “Dodon Ray!” Frieza screamed as a bright yellow flash of energy crossed through the sky speedily, focusing in on the blue Changeling. “Damn...” Sairai said as he crossed his arms over one another, blocking the blast with his arms. He let his hands fall to his sides as he looked at the man before him. “That was sneaky. You’ve obviously regained some of the power you once had.” “Obviously someone’s been slacking in his training.” “Obviously,” Sairai admitted as he brought a hand up into the air before him. “You’re not going to use the Death Ball here. You’d level the entire mountain range,” Frieza said as his jaw dropped open. Sairai only smiled evilly and said, “Not quite.” A small orb of bright blue ki built up in his hand as he lifted his palm toward the sky. The small orb quickly began to expand to proportions far beyond those that even Frieza had imagined they would grow. “Super Nova,” Sairai said as he kept his hand raised into the air, the energy cackling and parting the clouds above them like a small sun. Then he laughed and closed his hand into a fist, cackles of electric ki erupting from his arm as the small sun above his hand began to shrink. The mass of energy above the two men continued to grow smaller until it fit in the palm of Sairai’s hand and the clouds began to enclose around them once again, snow flurries beginning to riot around them, allowing nothing to be seen but the bright violet of Frieza’s ki and the bright blue light of Sairai’s attack. Sairai spoke slowly, as if thinking these words aloud instead of speaking to Frieza directly. “Thirty... no... Fifty meters,” he said as he brought his hand up over his head like a pitcher at a baseball game and tossed the ball of energy directly at the being before him. Frieza, no one’s fool, dodged immediately, up into the air as fast as he could go. Just before he could make it out of the blast radius, Sairai opened his hand fully and watched as the energy ball he had thrown stopped in midair and began to expand rapidly, engulfing Frieza in its azure glow. Sairai smiled as he watched Frieza being thrown high into the air by the force of the impact. He could see how powerful his attack had become in the time he had trained using it. “Nova Flare,” he said as Frieza caught himself in midair and began to recover. “That...” Frieza heaved as his ki began to fade, “...was a nasty trick.” Sairai rushed forward and caught the other man as he began to fall and guided the both of them back through the storm, to the remote cave he called his base, and stocked up a fire to keep them warm until Frieza recovered. “Wish I had some Senzu Beans,” Sairai said as he looked at the slumbering man. “Bed rest will have to do... for now.” ----- Many times Sairai had wished he’d had other Changelings fighting on his side for the betterment of the universe. It always seemed to be little more than a pipe dream, though of course at the time he had no idea that other universes existed, much less a kinder, gentler version of Frieza. He laughed as he shook his head lightly. There was so much about the multiverse that he didn’t understand, things that he needed to know if he planned to truly one day be a match for the power of the dark Master. There was so much wrong in the world, so much that Sairai could not set right alone. “You know, Frieza,” Sairai said as he looked at his slumbering companion, “I can’t do it all alone. I don’t think anyone in the universe can.” Frieza did not even stir from his sleep as Sairai looked at him. The man seemed to be quite tired after taking the brunt of one of Sairai’s more powerful personal attacks. “Oh well, not like it really matters anyway.” “Oh, it matters, Sairai... you’re right. None of us is a match for this Master guy alone. There are those of us who would think otherwise, but no single person is strong enough to take on a multiplanar entity like that,” Frieza said as he sat up in the makeshift cot Sairai had made for himself. “Ah, you’re awake. Sorry for the dirty tactic earlier. Nova Flare’s not exactly something I should use so lightly, even with such a controlled blast radius.” “Don’t worry about it... we’ll need surprises like that on our side if we want to stand a chance,” Frieza said as he rubbed his back and cracked his neck. “Gah... I hate sleeping on rock... always leaves me feeling like I broke every bone in my body.” Sairai laughed a little at the comment. He’d complained about that very same thing countless times, though he wouldn’t admit it in polite company. He missed the bed he had aboard his ship in the universe he was from. Sadly, such a thing could not be his again. For better or worse, he seemed to be stuck in this world, and he would have to make do with it. “Just out of curiosity, Frieza... you ever hear of a Saiyan named Goku?” “Not ringing any bells, honestly,” Frieza said, rubbing his neck gingerly. “How about Kakarot?” “Oh, the King of All Saiyans? Yeah, we’ve crossed paths a couple of times, back when I was working with Broly. That was a few years ago, though. Last I heard, Kakarot was on some planet in the Eastern Quadrant, using it as a base while his army was stealing planets out from under Emperor Sairai,” Frieza said. “He’s the only person either stupid or brave enough to go to war with the PTO, and while I respect him for it, he’s not exactly someone you want to cross. He’s a Saiyan, through and through, completely ruthless and always looking for another battle to win.” “Who do you think would win if my alter ego and Kakarot faced off?” Sairai asked, amused by the strange story spilling forth from Frieza’s lips. “It’s hard to say... Kakarot is one of the few Saiyans I know to achieve the level of Super Saiyan, but Sairai always has some kind of dirty trick up his sleeve to hit any possible opposition with, including a few rogue Super Saiyans in his own employ.” “Like Vegeta?” “No, no... Vegeta and Nappa are two of Kakarot’s most trusted right-hand men. They’re far too honorable to switch sides like that, same with Kakarot’s brother, Prince Raditz.” “Vegeta... honorable... now that I’d pay to see.” “So he’s not very honorable in your world?” “To put it lightly. The Vegeta from where I’m from is the Prince of All Saiyans... And boy does he love to boast about that title. He’s, in a word, the second most arrogant person I’ve ever met in my entire life.” “The most arrogant being?” “My universe’s Lord Frieza, no offense.” “None taken. Your counterpart’s about as full of himself as a person can be without exploding from sheer ego.” “I imagine it’s not all bravado, either... you’re quite powerful in your own right where I’m from. One of the only other Changelings besides myself capable of mastering the Fourth Form transformation.” “A feat I hope I can accomplish myself... the power boost over my current form must be significant.” Sairai rolled the idea over in his head for a moment, debating whether or not he should share the full potential of the Fourth Form with someone who hadn’t even achieved the power of the Second Form. “Well, I’ll tell you the stats that your other self has when he enters his Second Form... At least, he claims his Power Level is one million in his second form, and the Third and Fourth forms are even more powerful... Anyone with a scouter wouldn’t be able to handle the amount of power that a fully fleshed out Fourth Form master would be able to handle, especially at one hundred percent power.” “You’re saying a scouter could be broken from the sheer level of power that the Fourth Form puts out?” “It’s possible, if it’s fully mastered. My own Fourth Form exceeded normal power levels exponentially, but at one hundred percent power I fatigued very heavily over time. The amount of control that level of power requires is astounding and can leave you drained shortly into the fight. If you do access that power, be prepared to finish off your opponent very quickly... or else you’re going to end up running out of steam within minutes.” “I see... the other forms aren’t as hard to master, then, I take it?” “They are difficult in their own right, but with enough control, you can take on the transformations with minimal fatigue... Now, let’s talk about who from your world might have made it to this side. We have yourself, my alter ego, and who else?” “Broly and Kakarot most definitely, and possibly Vegeta, Nappa, and Raditz as well... my brother’s out there somewhere. We’ve talked over interstellar radio a couple of times, but the interference from this ‘game’ has caused heavy static. Without a more powerful broadcasting station, I wouldn’t be able to locate him.” “You and Cooler get along alright, then?” Sairai asked. “About as well as brothers can. We at least have a common enemy to hold us together through the tough times,” Frieza said, a slightly wistful look crossing his face. Sairai had made that face before, when his own brother, Hale, had begrudgingly accepted the temporary truce between the two of them, allowing him to begin his full fledged plot against the mighty King Cold and his family, who had decided that both brothers were useless except as tools, and had turned them against one another. “Did my other self try and turn you and Cooler against one another, to use one brother as a tool and the other as a sacrificed pawn?” “No. He issued immediate execution orders on both of us as soon as he found out our father had children wandering the cosmos. He seemed to know that we were potential wrenches that could be thrown into his system, and just wanted us eliminated.” “Just not enough to want to do it himself.” “Well, arrogance is a shared trait of our race, is it not?” Frieza asked. His eyebrow rose slightly as he asked the question, as though the answer to his question was something on which his trust would hinge. “Arrogance isn’t the only trait our race shares, cousin,” Sairai said, using the term even though the two were technically from other existences. “Greed is also a common trait we share, one which I’ve fought to overcome for years.” “You seem an honest sort... what kind of greed caught you?” Sairai laughed so severely it came out as a bark. He frowned very lightly, but enough to bring out the worry lines in his face. He could feel the creases deepening even as he sought the words to speak. “I wanted to protect everyone... My inability to accept even minimal losses for the sake of millions more cost me my confidence and my ability to stop an even more dangerous evil from rising in the north...” “You regret it?” “More than you can possibly imagine. East City was reduced to a smoldering crater and it’s entirely my fault.” Sairai’s head slumped to his chest as he recounted the last moments of his battle with the demon Balzar, his summoning of the Super Nova, the demons final speech as he dove head first into the large energy sphere, and the pain that cut through his heart as the entire city was reduced to nothing more than a mere ruin and hundreds of people got caught in the blast. Most had survived, for which the Changeling was thankful, and many had escaped without even an injury. However, there were also hundred, perhaps thousands of people who hadn’t survived. He clenched a fist as he mentioned the family that had been incinerated right in front of him, a crime that had pushed him over the edge and into his awakening of the Third Form Transformation of the Changeling race. “Seems it could have been much worse than it was. Had Balzar won that battle and lived, the entire world would have looked like East City. You did the right thing,” Frieza said as he placed a single hand on his cousin’s shoulder. He could feel the man shaking underneath him. The weight of his actions still held him down from achieving what he was truly capable of, even the older man had no trouble telling. “Listen, Sairai... You did the only thing you could have given the situation. If you could go back now and change it, I’m sure you would, but then you wouldn’t have become the man you are now.” “Is the man I am now even worth the lives of all those people?” Sairai asked, tears welling up in his eyes as he shook off Frieza’s hand. “No one life is worth another. Yes, you made a sacrifice, but you have to believe that those people understand that you did it with the greater good in mind, and that they want you to keep fighting, if not for yourself, then for them and the people they left behind. Believe me, if they could come back and fight by your side, I’d wager that every single one of them... save maybe the ones stuck in Hell, would do it in a heartbeat.” “You think so?” Sairai asked. His own eyebrows were raised at the idea. Frieza laughed lightly, his hand covering his mouth politely. He stood up, hands clasped behind his back in the genuine Cold Clan manner as he slowly began to pick through his own words. “I’m surprised you didn’t think of that before now, to be completely honest with you. There’s no reason, no reason at all that any of them would hold a grudge. You did what was necessary to protect their loved ones. I doubt any of them is angry with you in the slightest bit,” Frieza said simply. Sairai shrugged. He turned away and stepped out into the storm around them. “I’ll be outside. I’ve got a little bit to do before I run around screaming yip yip hooray or anything. You’re welcome to come with me.” “Where are you going?” Frieza asked as he stood up to follow the other man. “Unless I’m mistaken, I heard about a group of men with tails, Saiyans, who were holed up in an old abandoned church just outside of East City. They could be the ones from your home universe. They seem to be stuck on Earth, with no way out, same as us.” “You really think so?” “I don’t know, but it’s worth a quick look, isn’t it?” Sairai asked as he looked out into the storm through the cave entrance. “Even if they aren’t, odds are they hate the PTO and want to go home as much as we do. I’m sure we could easily strike some kind of bargain.” “Bargaining with Saiyans isn’t as easy as all that.” Sairai merely shrugged with a smile as he cast off into the snow, not even bothering to check whether or not the other man was going to follow him. There was no time for second guessing right now. Hesitation had cost the Changeling Mystic in his time, and he needed all the help he could get against Master. ----- The two men landed about a mile down the road from the church, their eyes upon the tower sticking out from above the trees to the west of East City. Sairai hesitated for a moment to turn his eyes upon the Jewel of the East, the city he had spent so many months defending in his own home universe. “One day, it’ll be rebuilt and then you can go back to defending it just as you always had, Sairai,” Frieza said as he motioned for the younger man to follow him. “The survivors will return, and regardless of what you think, they’ll welcome you back into their fold. Now, let’s go and see if these people are who you say they are.” Without a further word, the two men stepped forward and began the climb up the old beaten path toward the church. Before they got within half a mile of the building, they could hear people talking, and within a quarter of a mile, they were stopped by a single warning shot ki blast. “Stop right there!” a voice spoke out through the trees. Both Changelings stopped dead in their tracks and held their hands to the sky. Neither of them was holding anything in hand, so they waited for the person to speak again. “What are you doing up here? This place is supposed to be deserted.” “We heard rumors of ‘tailed men’ in the area. We figured you were Saiyans, stuck on this rock the same as us,” Frieza responded, not yelling, but making his voice just loud enough that it could be heard. A single man stepped out from the tree line, dark brown tail wrapped securely around his waist. His hair was insanely long, in Sairai’s opinion, and he had the definite appearance of a Saiyan, though his armor was white instead of the usual browns and blacks he had long associated with the race. “Well, you were right...” the man said as he looked down at the two before him. “I’ll be damned, we got us a pair of Changelings, boys.” A pair of shorter, squattier Saiyans stepped out from the shadows and pointed their palms at the two, prepared to destroy them if they attempted to make a fight out of things. Raditz settled his gaze upon Sairai for a moment, and then turned to Frieza. “So, are you our Frieza, or one of these copies they got flying around?” “Depends... did your Frieza go on a handful of missions with Broly to steal planets out from under the Snow Emperor’s nose?” “Alright, you’re ours. Who’s the Fallen Snow guy you got following you?” Frieza dropped his hands and looked at Sairai with a questioning look. The taller man nodded, indicating he should speak the truth. “He’s a Sairai from one of the other dimensions. In his home universe it seems he was the hero while I was the evil dictator,” Frieza said. The long-haired Saiyan laughed and waved his hand, letting his men know to drop their guards. “Are you serious, a good Sairai?” he asked between uproarious laughing. The fourth form Changeling rolled his eyes and let the man work it out of his system. He would have had the same reaction if someone had introduced him to a “good” Frieza as a third party. After the laughter was done, Frieza merely smiled and waited to be talked to again. “Well, Frieza... Emperor... what can we humble monkeys do for you?” “That joke was a little much, Raditz,” Frieza said as he floated up to the taller Saiyan and looked him in the eyes. “It is fine, Frieza... I got a chuckle when you told me that another version of myself was not only a member, but the leader of the PTO. To answer your question, Saiyan,” Sairai said, using the more acceptable term for the race, “we’re here because we’re stuck on this planet, just like you, and we want you to help us with a certain matter.” “And what matter is that?” “This ‘grand game,’” both Frieza and Sairai responded at once. “Since you are from Frieza’s home universe, you’ve seen the being that brought you to this universe, the malevolent anti-deity known only as Master.” Sairai could have sworn for a moment after saying that name, he had seen Raditz’s hair rise up slightly into the air. “We want to destroy it, and return home. Of course, inter-universe travel should exist, but it shouldn’t be forced on anyone,” Sairai continued, as though he hadn’t noticed anything. Could it be that Raditz, the brother of Goku... er... Kakarot, is a Super Saiyan as well? he thought as he waited for the man’s response. “Well, you’re right about one thing... this... Master creature needs to be destroyed. The game part is fine with us... determining who’s the strongest is what we Saiyans do. The strong fight for control and the weak are trampled underfoot,” Raditz said, as though he had learned the speech word for word as a child. Sairai smiled and shook his head, saying, “To each his own. Stay if you wish, but at least you’re on board with the destruction of that... thing.” “Where did it come from anyway?” “It’s not originally from there, but I know which universe it entered this one from.” “Which one?” “Mine.” The look on Raditz’s face was one of shock and disbelief. The dark entity that had managed to suck hundreds of thousands of the multiverse’s strongest fighters into this ‘universe zero’ had come through the home universe of this Sairai? It seemed preposterous, even the young Changeling had to admit. “Alright... explain.” Sairai again delved into the explanation of Master’s group, the Organization, the defeat of Balzar, the rise of Master in Orochi’s body, and the confrontation of Namek, ending in the Changeling’s defeat at the hands of an entity that held within it the power of the Namekian Dragon Balls. “Dragon Balls... of course...” “Don’t go thinking that he only gained his power through the Dragon Balls, Raditz... when he absorbed them, I felt something else, something... worse, breaking into my universe. I had long believed that the Master came from another reality, but this is how I know it is a fact: when he absorbed the Dragon Balls, a rift in space-time was ripped open and the rest of his... energy body, I suppose you could say, slipped through the massive hole and filled up the physical body it had been using. The power he gained from the Dragon Balls was far less than what he gained by being able to move his entire energetic form into my universe... After I felt that power, well, after he, it, whatever used it on me... I passed out and woke up on this Earth.” “So... we know that it has the power of the Dragon Balls, at least one set, we know that it’s far more powerful than any of us know right now, and we know the source of its power is this Sairai’s home universe. What would happen if we went back to the place you fought and close the rift?” “Honestly, I don’t think it can be closed. It was opened with the power of the Namekian Dragon Balls... we’d need an even more powerful source of energy to even consider closing it.” “This is something the King must hear, but I cannot grant you an audience just because I feel like it. You have to earn it... There is a mission we were going to carry out soon. You take it, and you’ll earn your audience with my brother.” “What’s the mission?” Sairai asked. “Sneak into the Corporation’s R&D facility in East City and steal these ship components,” Raditz said as he put a hand on his scouter and transmitted the data to Frieza’s. “We’ve been to every scrap yard on the planet, but the trade of engine components for ships is heavily restricted by the Corporation, and we don’t have that kind of money.” There was an unspoken part of the request that Sairai immediately picked up on. We’re also to take anything else that seems useful from the facility, he mused. “If we find any development data on state-of-the-art craft, I assume we should take that as well?” “You can. We’ll want to copy any information you siphon into Frieza’s scouter, of course.” “Of course. If we’re looking to get on your good side, we’re not going to hold anything back,” Sairai said, nodding his head. To that, the Saiyan could only chuckle and nod. Sairai turned to Frieza and smiled lightly. “I’m glad we could find them,” he said. “Now if we could only get our hands on your brother.” “I know. Cooler’s knowledge and experience would be invaluable to us right now,” Frieza said, lowering his head slightly. Sairai could feel that Frieza meant exactly what he said. Cooler had obviously been a different kind of person in their universe, not nearly as conceited as his counterpart from Sairai’s own universe. The younger Changeling put a hand on the older one’s shoulder and grinned from ear to ear. He didn’t need to say anything, for the expression on his face was enough to give Frieza heart. It said they would find his brother and anyone else they could bring to the task of taking down Master once and for all. “What about your brother, Sairai?” Frieza asked, tilting his head curiously at the younger man. “Hale... won’t be joining us, I imagine. He only took my offer of peace because he wanted to take down the Cold Clan in my home universe. Logically speaking, he’d be better served in that regard to play for Master’s team and take the power to crush them... assuming they even were brought into this universe.” “And why wouldn’t they be? You said your ‘Lord Frieza’ and ‘Lord Cooler’ both had access to their fourth form transformations, did you not?” At this, the blue Changeling could only sigh and nod his head. “I can only hope those two didn’t make it into this world. They rivaled me in power in our home universe, and if they have chosen to ally themselves with Master, even if they haven’t... we’re in for a very hard fight, even two on one against them individually. Cooler’s powerful, but Frieza’s mastery of his Fourth Form transformation was beyond anyone else’s, save my own. I’ve been weakened by the transfer to this universe, however. I don’t know if he has or not.” “Anyway... I suppose we should make way to the Corporation R&D division in East City.” “Good idea,” Sairai said as he began to float up into the air. “The sooner we can get an audience with Kakarot, the better.” With that, the two of them headed off toward the city to the east, the one place on this world’s Earth that he had been avoiding, for fear of repeating his battle with Balzar against another of Master’s minions. ----- Sairai and Frieza entered East City under cover of night, two white shadows flying through the sky around each building. The duo landed atop one of the tallest buildings in the city not owned by the Corporation. Atop the East City Bank and Trust, they looked down upon the R&D facility, a complex the size of a small city, dotted with hangars and buildings which they could only assume were filled with prototype devices, medications, and weapons, among any other miscellaneous merchandise that the Corporation used to keep their near monopoly on Earth, and throughout this quadrant of the Galaxy. “Only the Planet Trade Organization exists in direct competition with the Corporation, and they have a non-aggression pact in this universe, the way I understand it. It keeps them both in control of their various markets, with neither of them stealing too much of the other’s business. If I recall correctly, the Northern and Western Quadrants belong to the PTO while the Corporation does the majority of its business with the Eastern and Southern Quadrants, though don’t quote me on that. The two of them enjoy a massive profit, at least they will until one of them believes they have amassed enough resources to take over the other two quadrants.” “Knowing our race, the PTO will strike first... Well, one of them will...” “Indeed. It’s hard to tell which PTO will strike first. I would assume that in the aftermath, another PTO would come in and take out the weakened forces of whichever wins... possibly the one led by my counterpart from your universe,” Sairai said as a sudden chill ran up his spine. “What is it, Sairai?” Frieza asked as he looked at the other man, his eyes glancing up and down the other man’s body, a man who had lived in the frozen north and not so much as shivered once. “Nothing,” the younger Changeling said, forcing a smile. It’s just a feeling! he thought to himself, but even so, he brought both hands up to his shoulders and shuddered again. He couldn’t shake it. “Your senses are telling you something that you don’t notice with your conscious mind. What is it?” “Two things... one, the PTO of Emperor Sairai has its eye on the goings on of the Corporation... and second... well, I’d rather see with my own eyes before I let this one slip.” His eyes fell back upon the facility far beneath them and he frowned, the care lines on his face deepening as he did so. “Where are you?” he asked, speaking not to Frieza, but to someone far beyond his sight. “I know you’re here...” Without a second thought, he jumped off the building, falling a fair distance before bringing himself to a grinding halt in the air. With a flash of blue, he stormed off toward the Corporation’s building. Within seconds, he was hovering above their security gate, followed swiftly by the older Changeling. He could feel it, the unease settling around them both. The Corporation was known to hire “security consultants” that weren’t entirely human, and counted many great warriors from across the universe in their number. This was not going to be as easy as a smash and grab job. Sairai doubted many of the people within were a match for two Changelings, easily counted among the most powerful races in the universe, but there were some that would be able to provide a challenge. Corporate types, especially the corrupt, didn’t tend to leave things to chance. “At least ten of the people on this compound are comparable to our level, another twenty or so about half that. The rest are grunts, simple cannon fodder. The ten most powerful ones are the most likely to carry the highest level security codes on the compound, since they’re the only ones powerful enough to protect these interests from the best warriors of the PTO, whichever one we might be talking about.” “This ‘multiversal thought’ thing is quite interesting, isn’t it, Frieza? It tends to get confusing when we don’t know which version of whatever the topic is the other is talking about.” “I know. There are things that none of us will be able to understand about this whole thing, but there are still some common truths. We are good, this Corporation is evil. Still, though, I’d prefer not to end up in a fight with all ten of the strongest people on this compound. We’ll have to move stealthily.” “Hey you!” came a voice out from underneath them. “You two the contacts from the PTO? They told us to expect you, but you have to use the gate!” Whispering, Sairai said to Frieza, “Think you can fake being a heartless tyrant for a few minutes?” Frieza’s entire visage changed. His pupils dilated and he held a single hand over his mouth and laughed eerily. His previously wide, kind eyes had taken on a cruel, almost spiteful appearance, and his mouth seemed turned up in a constant smirk. Sairai smiled before fixing his lips into a thin line, narrowing his eyes and floating down beside the other man with his tail curled down slightly near the tip. The two bowed mockingly before the guard. “I am Lord Frieza. This is my personal bodyguard and retainer, Sairai,” the older of the two said, as he stepped forward and looked up at the guard. “We didn’t hear that one of the Lords would be here. We would have been prepared with a more royal welcome if-“ In a blinding flash, Sairai’s tail was wrapped around the guard’s neck, crushing slowly in on his windpipe. “You will address a Lord of the PTO by name, and only when given leave to speak!” Sairai said, his voice cold as wind through the cracks of a mountain. When the man nodded, showing that he had gotten the message, Frieza looked at the blue Changeling and held up a single hand, open palmed. Sairai dropped the guard with a look of disdain on his face, his eyes cold and reflecting almost no light. “You may show us in, if you please,” Frieza said, as though nothing had happened. The guard merely nodded and held out a single trembling arm, bowing after his own fashion and leading the way through the compound. In a hushed voice, the older man said to the younger, “You didn’t have to take it that far did you?” With a chuckle, knowing that the guard didn’t have a clue what they were talking about, Sairai said, “Yes, I did... Lords of the PTO are extremely egotistical and do not take well to any perceived disrespect. What I did was little more than a stern reprimand, the way that they see it.” The violet changeling merely shook his head and shrugged as they followed the guard. “Begging your pardon, Lord Frieza,” the guard said suddenly, seeming to have regained his nerve. “You may speak,” the Changeling responded with a light sneer. “Though I may not like what you have to say.” Sairai stepped forward slightly, bringing himself up right behind Frieza’s left shoulder, a menacing scowl on his face. The guard didn’t so much as flinch. “I’ve been instructed to give you a small tour. Is there anything in particular you would like to see?” Frieza paused just long enough to let t he guard think he was thinking it through. “You were complaining that the Royal Saucer was beginning to feel a little outdated. Perhaps a look at their interstellar flight technology?” Sairai suggested subtly. The older Changeling smirked slightly and brought his tail crashing against his retainer’s head, bringing the larger being to the floor easily. The younger Changeling remained on the floor, acting as though he had been stunned by the blow. The guard backed up a step as Frieza merely laughed. “What have I told you about speaking out of turn? Well? Answer me!” “O-of course, Lord Frieza,” Sairai gasped out, standing up slowly and flinching back as the “Lord” turned to him. “Must I discipline you more?” Frieza asked, sneering as he pointed a single finger at the taller man, a bright purple glint of energy radiating out from his finger. “No! I’ll not speak out of turn again, my lord!” Sairai screamed. “Good... but you’re right. A look at their aerospace technology would be good. Maybe find something we can throw into the negotiations later.” The guard nodded and motioned for the two to follow him, suddenly seeming very glad he didn’t work for the Planet Trade Organization. Frieza seemed to be even tougher on his men than the Organization was. He came to one of the doors and slid a small card into it. When it asked for the passcode, he punched in a seemingly random series of numbers, which the two Changelings did not bother memorizing. “If I had to guess,” Sairai whispered to Frieza, “the passcodes are changed every thirty minutes to an hour at the most.” Frieza nodded, having thought precisely the same thing. “Well, here we are, aerospace technology. Please follow me, and I’ll show you our pride and joy: the KS-129p. According to our Flight Division, that means that this is the one hundred and twenty-ninth prototype of our soon-to-be exclusive Ki-Shield model of ship.” Immediately forgetting Raditz’s shopping list, the two of them beheld the mirror-like ship in almost a daze. “This is perfect. Is it ready for flight tests?” Frieza asked. “As a matter of fact, it’s scheduled for its fourth flight test in two days, to test the optional systems.” “You know an awful lot for a mere guard,” Sairai said, backing up slowly as his ki began to flare around him. Frieza, the same thought running through his head, also allowed his power to grow around him. “Too bad... I almost got away with this disguise,” the man said as he discarded the blacked out helmet on his head. A glint of dark blue reflected out in the fluorescent light of the room, with dark blue eyes looking out from underneath. A gray tail erupted from the security pants the being was wearing, having apparently been wrapped around the being’s torso. As blue eyes beheld one another, Sairai frowned. It was indeed as he feared. Before him stood a Changeling of his own Clan, the Sekisetsus. “You are one of my own, yet I don’t think we’ve met,” Sairai said as he looked upon the almost gray skin of the Fourth Form Changeling standing before him. “Oh, I’m hurt... you wear the same face as him, but you are not the Emperor of Snow,” the being said. “Another universe’s version of him perhaps? Yes, that makes sense.” “The Emperor of Snow. I’ve heard that so many times it makes me sick to think of the words. I am Sairai Sekisetsu, Guardian of Earth!” the young man said as he dropped down into the Turtle Stance. The gray-skinned Changeling busted out laughing at the words of the other Sekisetsu. “You?” he said, laughter making it hard for him to string together two words, “You’re the Guardian of Earth? In what universe would the most terrible being ever to exist sink to protecting those lesser than himself?!” “In mine,” he said as he rushed forward and kicked the other man in the abdomen, before coming down on the back of his neck with a crushing double-fisted blow. The other Changeling hit the ground with a thud, cracking the floor beneath them, but he did not stop laughing. He stood up, allowing his ki to flow out, the dark, sickening blue to match his eyes and scales. “Is that any way to treat your own brother?” the being said, laughing. A hiss escaped Sairai’s lips, “Hale!” “You even sound like my brother when you mention my name... how uncanny, and so spiteful,” Hale said, laughing. He chest shook with the force of his laughter. “To think, I’d find another version of my brother here, when I expected to find him here and kill him myself!” “Let me guess. You figured I wasn’t your brother when Frieza said I was his retainer, didn’t you?” Sairai asked. “So many Planet Trade Organizations and only one Corporation. In order to keep its might, the Corporation must appear larger than it really is, both in a point of bodies and manufacturers. If the combined might of every Changeling to pass through to this world met the Corporation’s, I’m sure it would be a total massacre.” It was Sairai’s turn to laugh. “If it was that easy for tyrants to set aside their pride for greater profit, it would have been done already. The various PTO’s don’t want a competitor, especially one sharing the same name. If any of the Frieza’s... or your brother, had their way, I’m sure everyone else who shared the same organization would be dead, or brought under their rule.” “And you?” Hale asked, smiling slightly. “Oh, me? I’m just here for that ship. That wasn’t a lie. We need ship parts for our Saiyan friends. Even if this... KS-129p isn’t fully functional, the base parts required for interstellar flight should still be there.” Frieza had not said a word thus far, and looked upon the gray Changeling before them with a light smile on his face, waiting to be noticed. “And you, ‘Lord’ Frieza?” the being said, looking down his nose at the shorter man. “It’s simple, Hale... you’ve known my plans since before the Snow Emperor crushed you under that Supernova on Planet Snow 12. I’m actually quite shocked you survived, much less achieved Fourth Form,” the older man said simply. The larger Changeling couldn’t help but take a couple of steps back. His brother from another universe merely smiled and left the two of them to play out this little drama however they wished. “Frieza... it’s you... you’re the one from my universe, aren’t you?” Hale asked. “Yes... last I saw of you, you were supposed to be dead, much to the regret of my older brother.” “Yes... Cooler shouldn’t have blown his cover like that just to try and save my life. He was perfectly placed at Sairai’s side to kill him, and he blew it all on some vain attempt to prevent my death.” “Well, he always was a bit soft,” Frieza chuckled. So the Cooler of their universe is willing to risk life and limb to protect the people he has allied himself with. That’s good to know, Sairai thought as he turned away from the two conversing. “We’d better hurry. I can sense a large presence coming toward us. One of the head guards is heading straight this way to check up on the visitors, I imagine.” “Your senses aren’t as sharp as you claim they once were, Sairai,” Frieza said, holding a single finger to his scouter. “There are three, though one of them is much more powerful than the others. Actually...” Frieza muttered as he double checked his figures, “this one appears to be stronger than everyone else in the entire facility, and by quite a bit.” “What do we do?” Hale asked. He had already ruined his disguise, and didn’t really have much to go on other than that, as the Corporation made it a point not to employ Changelings, to avoid angering the PTO prematurely. “You two try and hold them off. You’re both stronger than me. I’ll download the schematics and development data for the ship. As soon as I’m done with that and plant a little surprise of my own in the Corporation’s server, we can leave. We’ll be taking their precious KS-129p straight to King Kakarot.” |

As Frieza uttered that final word, a figure appeared on the other side of the glass door, cloaked entirely in shadow. A pair of large hands burst through the door and began to push it back, opening it as easily as crushing a soda can. A green tail tipped with what appeared to be a large orange stinger slipped in through the crack in the door. “Oh, you have got to be kidding me!” Sairai muttered under his breath. “The one breaking in the door... I’ll handle it. Hale, you take the other two.” “It’s your funeral. I’ve learned enough about this place to know the Head of Security when I see him.” “I only wish I knew how in the hell they’re controlling that thing...” Sairai said “Thing, huh? You must have some history with bio-androids, then.” “You could say that. It’s the one called Cell that I have the most history with, though.” Hale laughed. “Well, then, don’t you worry about that one. The ‘heads of security’ in these firms are Cell’s children, not the original article. He’s the head of security at the main branch in Central City, and he’s much... much stronger than these knock-offs.” “Oh, thank the Kais,” Sairai said as he rushed the door, grabbing the tail of the bio-android and pulling on the tail as hard as he could. The being on the other side screamed in a raspy voice and pulled back, but Sairai had too much leverage at this point, and managed to pull the copy of Cell through the door before they forcibly slammed back shut. Standing up, the being dusted itself off and looked at the young Changeling through insectoid eyes. “Who are you, and why are you in my building, Changelings?” it hissed. Sairai noticed that there was something similarly eerie about this creature that he had felt before in the original Cell. It was a very faint reflection of what he had seen before in his life, but the resemblance was there. Without warning, the being’s tail swiped out at Sairai, the pointed end aiming directly for his torso. Sairai moved a little bit to one side and caught the tail in his hand, which the Cell copy had intended, as he was dragged in by the tail to receive a wide arcing double palm to the face. He went reeling backward as the being looked at him with a mixture of disgust and amusement. “I am Mito, second-born of Cell’s children.” “Children?” Sairai and Hale both asked, a little shocked and disgusted at the same time. “Yes... Father has the same ability that the Namekians do, to reproduce without need for a mate, and in order to create a team directly under himself whom he could rely on, we were born. Security, strictly speaking, belongs wholly in the hands of our Father and ourselves. We are not the same useless little beings called ‘Cell Jr.’ though, oh no. We are the next step in the evolution of our race, the children of the perfect being.” Sairai put his head in his hands and shook his head tiredly. He had heard this ‘perfect being’ crap enough times that he could puke by now. Apparently, in the universe this Cell came from, he had achieved the Perfect Form he had so long talked about in Sairai’s own universe. “So, the Cell from which you are bred has achieved his so-called ‘Perfect Form’ then?” “He is perfection itself! There is nothing he can improve on!” “How about... not looking like a green cockroach?” Sairai asked, knowing full well the answer that would await him. Much like his father, Mito appeared to have a fairly high opinion of Cell, and thus of himself. With a screech of sheer rage, the being reached out and attempted to crush Sairai’s windpipe with a single hand. The Changeling ducked under the attack and unleashed a blast of ki at the being’s midsection, sending it hurtling into the door that he had been pulled through. The force of the blast shattered both doors, and left the bio-android lying atop the other two guards that had accompanied him. “You’re as strong as my brother,” Hale said, whistling appreciatively. “Not quite back to my old strength, but I have been needing a workout. Frieza, how’s the data mining?!” “I need five more minutes!” the other man replied. “Yeah, like I’m going to trust anyone with the name Frieza to be accurate on measuring time,” Sairai muttered under his breath. “I heard that!” the other man replied, still typing away at the holo-keyboard in front of him. He pulled a wire out of his Scouter and plugged it into the computer in front of him. Thousands upon thousands of pages of data about the ship flooded into his scouter in nanoseconds. Mito stood up, his wings flaring out behind him like a particularly agitated insect. His own ki began to flare around him, a bright yellow to contrast with Sairai’s own azure. The Changeling locked eyes with the insect-like creature and frowned. There was far too much at stake for them to risk losing their lives here, to what was basically the Cell Sairai had known, only weaker. “Mito, I’m sure you’re very concerned about us stealing this ship, but rest assured, you won’t even miss it,” the man said as he backed up slowly, hands held in the air against any possible threat. “You come in, compromise my security, insult my father and expect to walk away?” A cold, lightly hissing chuckle issued from the creature, as though he found this particular insult funny. It stepped forward, those cold eyes trained on the Changeling before it. “You know... I think I’ll bring you to my father face to face, since you seem to know him so well.” Sairai’s arms both came up and he shrugged, one eyebrow cocked and a half smile on his face. “I don’t think I’d be so well received by your father, honestly. I doubt he’s the one I know, since the one I know has not achieved his ‘perfection,’ though it has been many months since I’ve last seen him,” Sairai said, before he vanished from sight and smashed his fist in an uppercut to the green creature, sending it reeling in turn. “Frieza! I don’t think I can stall any more. I’ll have to fight now if you’re not done!” Frieza looked down at the console before him and brought a hand up as if to smash it before clenching his fist and relaxing slightly. “The specs are finished, and the virus is uploading. If you end up taking out the whole room, just make sure the vehicle is left unharmed!” The blue Changeling shook his head at his older, horn-headed companion. As if waiting for that cue, he cracked his neck and fingers as he walked slowly toward the facsimile of Cell with an excited glint in his eyes. “Did I mention I’ve been holding back?” he whispered over the sounds of the ki around him beginning to grow wild and out of control. The green beast looked at him with a slightly bemused smile on his face as the Changeling walked toward him. “Me too,” Mito hissed as his own ki began to let loose within the confines of the small space. The other man could feel the being’s power skyrocketing. Hale and the two guards that Sairai had assigned him both stood back, knowing that they were about to see something beyond anything they’d likely ever seen before. “You’re nothing compared to the Cell I faced,” Sairai snarled as the frown lines around his lips began to set, deep as trenches, and making him look years older than he actually was. Mito couldn’t help but laugh and reply, “How could you possibly know that? You haven’t seen the full range of my power.” The Changeling did not respond, as the two warriors began to circle each other, each waiting for the other to make the opening play. Eventually, one of them would run out of patience and attack, and Sairai, naturally calm as always, merely waited for the insect’s opening blow. From that tipping point, the battle would truly begin, each side vying for the winning shot. “I sincerely hope you don’t have that same regeneration ability that your father does,” Sairai said easily. “You’re in for a bit of disappointment, then,” Mito easily responded. The Changeling merely smiled at the foolish remark. While the regeneration ability was indeed useful, it spent a lot of spiritual energy, and could quickly run any being’s reserves out. The only question that remained then was whether or not Sairai had the patience and the stamina to run Mito out of his regenerative capabilities. “Or...” he said to himself aloud. “Or what?” the demonic entity sneered at him. “I could just destroy every cell in your body, then I wouldn’t have to rely on wearing you down,” Sairai said, knowing that even in revealing the possibility, the pride of the creature would prevent him from ever seeing the threat as a real potential ending for the fight before them. “Ha! If you think you can, feel free to try!” Mito responded as he jumped forward, tail coming overhead for a head crushing swing. Sairai ducked underneath the blow with a smile and countered by flipping onto his back and kicking with both feet, driving the being up into the ceiling. Without so much as a pause, Sairai rushed up, both hands crossed over his chest and crashed directly into the Cellspawn, crashing through the roof and into the sky above the building. “Seeking to drive me away from damaging the buildings and the craft, are we, Changeling?” Mito asked facetiously. He shook his head and a ball of bright yellow ki appeared in his hand. “All the same, it would be better to prevent as much collateral damage as possible. Father would not be happy if the Board were unhappy.” A grim smile crossed the Changeling’s face as he looked upon the being before him. Even in his much weakened state, he knew he still stood a decent chance in this fight, at least as long as he could use an attack with a blast radius large enough to destroy every single cell in the being’s body. That attack would have to be the Nova Flare or the Super Nova, though Sairai was certain that this Cellspawn was capable of more than enough speed to counter the Nova Flare. “I was hoping it wouldn’t have to come to that attack, but let’s see where this goes, first,” he whispered to himself as he charged the being, trading blow after blow with the creature. He attacked, blocked, and was hit several times as they circled each other in the sky over the Spaceflight R&D Division. He frowned as he brought his hands forward and unleashed a large wave of ki at the being, launching it up into the air by several hundred feet. In a flash, he rose to meet the being and drive a knee into its abdomen. As he did so, he felt the slippery tail of Mito wrap around his torso, tossing him down toward the ground as the almost demonic entity cupped his hands behind his back. Sairai was hurtling straight toward the hangar below, and allowed himself only to fall just far enough to appear beaten, and then kicked off the air underneath him, flying over some empty countryside on the outskirts of the facility. “Ka-me-ha-me-HA!” Mito screamed, unleashing a torrent of blue-tinted energy directly at Sairai. “Tsk, tsk, tsk...” Sairai said as he lifted a finger toward the wave of ki crashing down toward him. “Death Beam,” the Changeling said simply as a beam of piercing blue ki erupted from the end of his index finger before crashing into the Kamehameha wave that was hurtling toward him. As the two diverging ki forces met, the wave was pierced by the beam and shattered. The Death Beam travelled upward through the air where the wave once was and continued on toward Mito, who sat stunned as the beam pierced through the solid plate on his chest. The green creature held up a single hand and touched his chest, then looked at it disbelievingly. Though the wound had been seared shut immediately, there was a look of absolute shock and disgust on his face. “I am the son of the Perfect Being!” he cried as the hole on his chest began to close. “Perfect, he’s finally lost his concentration!” Sairai said as he lifted a single finger above his head. Now... I know I promised never to use this again, but... I think I know what I’m doing now. A small blue-white bead of ki appeared above his finger and immediately began to swell outward, becoming hundreds of times the size of a normal ki ball in mere seconds. Mito slammed hard against the outer shell of the giant sphere of ki. Sairai merely smiled as he poured more energy into it, causing it to swell around the beast’s body. With one final push, he caused it to swell large enough to blot out the entire night sky with a sea of bright blue-white. He could hear the screams of the creature as it fought, trapped within his ball of ki. “It’s time for you to say good night, Mito... son of Cell,” Sairai said as he released the giant ball of ki from his grasp and flipped, kicking it into the sky at phenomenal speeds. “Now,” he said, lifting a single hand up to the ball of energy that he had sent hurdling toward the sky. “Goodbye.” He clenched his fist, and watched as the giant ball of ki began to shrink down as it flew away from him at a slowly increasing velocity. He could faintly see the form of the Cellspawn being crushed by the hard outer shell of the ball, but now was not the time to think of that. He continued to concentrate, squeezing the ki ball by his sheer force of will from all sides. As it finally reached what he could only guess was a good ‘critical mass,’ he opened his palm and released all control of it, only watching now as the thin outer shell that held his Super Nova together began to crack and chip away. At last, it had finally broken down enough, and the entire compounded energy ball exploded outward in the sky, far enough away to cause no one harm, but close enough that it looked like a great festival of fireworks had been released into the sky all at once. All at once, a sound unlike anything the Changeling had ever heard came rushing through the air toward his ears, the sound easily mistaken for that of a great explosion, but much more than that. He held himself still in the air as the wind from behind him rushed before him to fill in the void where much of the atmosphere’s air had been completely destroyed, down the molecular level. “The end of one of Cell’s children... I have the blood of an artificial being on my hands now,” Sairai said, chuckling. He descended down into the building below with a slightly bemused expression. “We finally ready to go?” he asked. “Just barely.” Sairai checked the position of the moon in the sky and chuckled. “Fifteen minutes.” “Stuff your tail in it,” Frieza said as they climbed in the ship, blasted the hangar doors open, and took off, immediately turning on the ship’s newfound steal mode. “They didn’t include any tracking systems because, honestly, who really is dumb enough to steal from the Organization? Besides, they’ll know where to find us if they want to... it’s not like a pair of Changelings, one of them powerful enough to take out one of their elite guards, are hard to miss.” “I’m going to regret pissing off the Organization one day, aren’t I?” Sairai asked. “A necessary evil, and we may have just weakened them substantially. Anyway, let’s get this back to Kakarot. With this, they can leave the planet, and we might just be able to as well... depending on what they think of us.” “Yeah... let’s go. I’m going to catch a nap in the cargo bay. Circle the planet a couple of times to see how she flies and then wake me up when we get to the church.” “Gotcha.” ----- The ship slowly came in for a landing in the overgrown cemetery behind the church lot. There were enough trees to block the ship from being spotted from space, and just enough room to dock it safely. As they landed, a handful of men in flexweave armor walked out, one of them the long-haired Prince Raditz of the Saiyans. The door to the ship opened and a small walkway extended down toward the ground, allowing the Changelings to walk out easily. “I hope that an entire ship beats a few spare parts. We weren’t exactly able to go scrounging when the security team began swarming in,” Sairai said, a small smirk crossing his features as he spoke. The Saiyan just looked at him, then at the ship, and then back at him. “You did better than we hoped. This is the new stealth model that the rumors have been going around about. I bet the fools didn’t expect it to be taken from under their noses!” Raditz nearly screamed in joy. The Changeling nodded and bowed to the man, the smirk forming into a genuine smile. As Sairai rose from his bow, he came eye to eye with the man looking over Raditz’s shoulder. Medium, spiky black hair rose from the crown of his head, splitting off in three distinct directions that could only be seen as a permanent bed head by humans, but Sairai knew that hairstyle by sight. He looks just like Goku... just less kind, he thought to himself for a moment as he looked into the face of the man whom he could only assume was King Kakarot of the Saiyans. “They did better than we hoped, you say?” the king asked. His brother jumped and turned around, bowing to his brother and liege. He looked at the ship with a questioning gaze. “How do we even know it’s flight ready?” Frieza was the first to speak up, bowing as he began speaking to the much taller man. “We’ve collected the test data and the manufacturing data, and wiped the Corporation’s servers of any trace of the ship, and indeed set them back in their R&D by several years. The ship was scheduled for its fourth and final flight test next week, to test some of the finer, less necessary functions.” “Such as?” Kakarot asked, his black eyes peering into the red of the Changeling before him. “Frequency scanners and a couple of automated systems for comfort. They were planning to sell this to the PTO at a substantial price hike. It was mostly just useless comfort items, and I checked the systems personally. All of them but the seat warmers appear in working order, and with the manufacturing data, it will be easy to repair any problem areas on the ship, except for the ki shielded alloy they used to build the exterior from. For that, you would need manufacturing facilities capable of infusing very low, concentrated amounts of ki into the metal, which only the Corporation has.” “So... if we want to continue stealthily, we’d have to steal one of those devices? Good thing we aren’t cowards who like to attack an opponent who has his back turned,” the king laughed. “Seems you’ve gone above and beyond the call of duty, Changelings. I would be happy to grant you both an audience immediately. As to whether or not I’ll like what you have to say remains untested.” So very like and yet unlike the Goku I know. He’s much less simple in his speech at the very least. “Thank you, King Kakarot,” Sairai said, bowing as low as Frieza did for the Saiyan Lord. While he did not believe that this man was anything remotely like his own Goku, he could still feel the glimmer of something great in the man’s soul, a certain sense of compassion for the suffering of others that the Changeling could swear was the driving force behind the actions of every version of this man in every universe, regardless of his station in life. “Do not thank the king until he has heard your ‘request’! You may not wish to when this conversation is over!” a tall, bald man yelled from the back steps of the church. “Nappa! Think before you speak!” “Oh, sorry Prince Raditz. Did I say something outside of my bounds? That’s usually your job,” the larger man said, smiling as he crossed his arms over his hulking chest. There was something about this man that caused Sairai to want to fight him, though another feeling entered his body, a sense of foreboding. It felt like this man resembled another he had fought before, though he could not readily lay his finger upon it. Nappa turned toward the Changeling and his eyes narrowed. Apparently the feeling was mutual. The taller Changeling leaned down to the shorter and whispered in his ear, “I think he’ll be quite fun to fight. I won’t have to hold back at all.” “No... you won’t, and don’t think he’ll hold back from killing you if he thinks you’re weak. He’s one of Kakarot’s Elite Guards.” “That makes it even more interesting... I don’t think I hate the man, I just want to fight him.” “Keep your hands to yourself until we talk to Kakarot.” “Don’t treat me like a kid. I know how to play nice, but if he moves first, I’m going to dropkick him through the Earth’s core.” “Be my guest.” With that small spat out of the way, the Changelings followed the King of All Saiyans into the main antechamber of the church, where they were motioned to take a seat on the pew closest to the ancient thrones that sat at the head of the aisle. The king took his seat and motioned for the Changelings to come before him. The two stood up, wondering slightly at the ceremony, and knelt before the old wooden throne. “So... what do you want?” the man asked plainly. “We want only what is best for this universe, and all the universes that have been smashed together to create this grand game. We want to defeat the Master,” said Frieza. “Ah, and for that you would seek the help of some rustic Saiyan Pirates?” “Not pirates... warriors,” Sairai interjected before Frieza could answer yes or no. “In my universe, the Saiyans are a respected race of warriors, second to none in the combative arts. My race fears them for their ability to go Super Saiyan, a feat which I have encountered on more than one occasion. The fear is not unfounded. Saiyans contain within them the potential to reach feats of power equally as great as the strongest of any race, my own included... and some perhaps higher. One in particular I met was capable of achieving a power far beyond anything I’ve ever seen... uncontrolled though he was.” “Oh? You’ve seen the Legendary Super Saiyan?” “Super Saiyans,” Sairai corrected. “They were as follows: Broly, Goku, Gohan, Goten, Trunks, and Bulla.” “I only know Broly. Who are the other five?” “Goku would be the you from my universe, don’t ask me how he came by the name. Gohan and Gotenks are his sons, and Trunks and Bulla... well, I’m not too sure about them, though they share something of a favor toward Vegeta.” “I see... and which of these was the strongest?” “Broly by far. The depth of his rage fed a power so immense it nearly killed me several times. I only escaped by his... respect for an agreement we had.” “Agreement?” a voice asked from underneath a hood on Kakarot’s right hand side. “What sort of agreement?” “We agreed that in a month’s time from the date the agreement was made that we would fight, give it our all, to see which of us was truly worthy of being called the strongest. I have the strangest feeling I’d have lost, though... his power grew exponentially more quickly than my own.” Sairai left out the part that the fight had been agreed to be a fight to the death, at full power, and that the survivor was not only by rights the strongest, but also had the right philosophy on life itself. “I see...” the figure said as he stepped back into the shadows to the king’s right. “So... explain to me what it is that you want from us, Changelings...” “Simple... an agreement stating that when the time comes, the Saiyans will join with us and all other resistance groups we can find against the monstrous evil to take him out once and for all.” “You make it sound far easier than it is,” Kakarot said with a grim smile. “I said simple, your grace... not easy,” Sairai said. At that, the king was forced to laugh. “I like it! Simple, but not easy. It’s like our daily training... it’s simple enough to follow, but it pushes our bodies to the limit, thus is not easy. Fair enough Changeling, but tell me...” Kakarot swooped down upon Sairai and looked him square in the eyes. “What do you know about this Master? Can he even be defeated?” “To my knowledge... no,” Sairai answered simply. “See... I’ve fought him before, in my own universe... right before the game started.” The king listened to the story, asking only the occasional question to clarify an attack or two, since Sairai could only name them based on his own experiences, and what he assumed were the names of the attacks, which he had heard of, but seen only a few of. “So... Master is from your universe...” “Yes, and no. I believe he is originally from another universe, but used mine as a gate into the multiverse... The mass of power he absorbed into his physical shell upon utilizing the power of the Dragon Balls was massive, easily enough to fill an entire universe on its own. I can only assume that the Master existed in another universe, and having devoured it, sought an escape... He must have found it through our universe’s Dragon Balls.” “And now he is free to jump between planes of reality at will... a multiversal god,” the hooded figure muttered under his breath. “Basically, though I think that since he has taken all of his energy and compressed it into a single, albeit possibly massive form, he can be destroyed.” “An educated guess?” “I was able to harm him, but I couldn’t inflict enough damage alone to make any difference. As long as even an iota of his original energy remains, he’ll regenerate... I believe that if you can destroy the core, he’ll collapse into nothing, though.” “And how would we go about doing that?” the Saiyan King asked, his eyebrow cocked up. “I believe you already know the answer... there is no way to destroy energy that I or any other scientist knows of, but if there is a physical... or anti-physical core to that thing, there is a chance that causing that core to collapse would suck all of his energy in to fill the void... an implosion, if you will. If the core of his personality were destroyed, the being behind the giant mass of energy, it’s entirely possible that all the energy he once controlled would go wild and return to their origins, restoring not only my universe, but all others he stole from,” Sairai said, before taking a breath. “You are certainly longwinded, Sairai... you share that at least with your alter ego.” “Speaking of, I wonder if he managed to cross the dimensional gateway to get here as well,” Frieza muttered under his breath. “He could prove to be problematic.” “I wonder,” Kakarot said to himself as he looked into the skies above Earth. “I have no doubt he’s here,” Sairai said. “He’s my total opposite in every way, except in terms of power from what I understand. If I made the cut, I think he will too.” With that statement, the others could only agree. There was something about the certainty in the man’s eyes that left little to no room for doubt. ----- “My Lord!” A pair of blue eyes opened within the cold steel chamber and turned toward the door which was letting in far too much light for the being to be able to focus. The creature stood up and turned toward the intruder, tail swishing back and forth irritably. “You had better have a good reason for interrupting my meditation, Captain,” it said. The frosty whisper that escaped his lips was enough to send chills down the man’s back as he stood at attention, waiting to be asked to speak. “Well... tell me what you came to say,” the being said. His voice was almost monotonous in its calm. “We seem to have found one of your relatives... on Earth.” “And this is news because?” “He attacked the Corporation, sir!” “So he’s dead then?” “He... uh... got away,” the soldier finished, scratching his head in a confused manner. He was used to his lord being able to guess what he was going to say, but for him to be wrong was a surprise. “Interesting... so much for Cell’s so-called ‘perfect’ defensive forces. You say this man is a relative of mine?” “He has the blue scales common to your family sir... aside from that, we can’t find any information on him, which is why we decided it would be best to inform you right away, just in case you might want to find out about him for yourself. If we were wrong, I... already know the punishment.” “You’re a captain,” the Changeling said, eyeing the patch on the alien’s breast. “You couldn’t get a subordinate to come in your stead?” “They were all too afraid, sir... They fear you far more than they fear me. I’d have had to kill a dozen of them to get even one to deliver the news, and we were taught in your military academy that to kill your own forces for anything less than a capital offense is wasteful.” “And you’d be right, and one of the only officers in my divisions to have taken that lesson to heart. Instead of wasting thirteen men on a single task, you come to me yourself so that only one soldier would die. A common sense, very businesslike approach. Very well, I will come check up on your information myself. As punishment for interrupting my meditation, you are demoted one rank. In return for your taking one of my most important lessons about wasting resources to heart... you are promoted two ranks. You are now a High Captain, and will be privy to my council meetings from here on in. Now, be off and send your underlings to General Quartan. He’ll reeducate them to have a proper respect for their superiors. Now, I’m off to the bridge. You’re coming with me.” The new High Captain nodded and walked behind his commander, the Snow Emperor Sairai. The Changeling and his subordinate entered the Bridge, and Sairai’s stark blue eyes surveyed the room around him with a sneer. All of these people, these dozens of soldiers trained to pilot the Changeling Super Saucer Sairai had designed were nothing more than a fraction of a fraction of the soldiers he had under his command, and all of them had been brought into the Game, for the Master’s amusement. “Master... what arrogance to refer to himself in such a way. One day soon, we’ll show him who the true Master is, won’t we men?!” At this, his men began to yell in unison that yes, they would indeed show the dark being known as Master who was in fact the real master of the multiverse. Under his breath, the Changeling muttered, “And the same goes for all the other PTOs, the one run by those abhorrent Friezas. How someone so stupid could ever have taken over so many planets is beyond me. I don’t care how powerful they are... they’re just not capable of running a truly efficient military organization. Mass killing might make you feared the universe over, but it is going to breed enough hatred for at least one person to put you down... No, they don’t need to just fear you... they need to respect your power, and know that while you might claim dominion of their planets and require a tithe or some form of payment...” His word’s trailed off as the High Captain signaled for the video to be brought up on the screen. His eyes caught on the solid white body and bright blue scales of the Changeling fighting against Mito. He could see only the back of the being, but something disquieting had come over him, something that he feared more than anything. “Change the angle of the camera! Get me a look at his face!” The camera’s angle suddenly changed and Emperor Sairai beheld a face he had only before seen in a mirror. “You have got to be kidding me...” he said as he backed up a couple of steps from the monitor. “That’s... that’s me...” he said as a fit of the giggles began to overpower his words. A hand went up over his mouth as his laughter continued to grow. “Emperor?” the High Captain said. He looked up into the larger man’s eyes and saw a strange look in them, as though he was torn halfway between terror and pure amazement. “That’s me... my Fourth Form, and it’s fighting against Cell’s second son, Mito the Incorrigible.” “You’re telling me that Changeling that was fighting Mito was... you, sir?” “Another me... like the plethora of Frieza’s in the multiverse, there was no doubt in my mind that there’d be other versions of myself. I just... didn’t expect one of me to be...” He didn’t finish his thought as he turned away and walked off the Bridge, saying only, “Keep surveying him. I doubt you’ve seen the last of this man’s moves... We need to know whether he is a friend or a foe.” “Understood, sir!” the High Captain said as he bowed toward the taller man and turned his attention to the Bridge. “Captain Shinri, why are you standing there? Only a High Captain or higher can control the bridge.” “Computer, what is my rank?” the man merely responded, a somewhat grim smile on his face as he turned toward the men on the Bridge. “High Captain, sir... wait a moment... the information is being updated now... Shinri of the Alteroid race, rank... General, effective immediately by order of Snow Emperor Sairai.” “Soldiers of the CS Blizzard, this is your Emperor... from this point forward, General Shinri is to be contacted immediately on all matters regarding the Changeling in the video shown fighting Mito. His codename will be S-2. Any failure to cooperate with his investigation will be met with swift and severe punishment. Secondly, he is now in command of my ship whenever I am absent. Any order he gives will be tantamount to an order from myself... the punishment for disobedience... death. Now, back to your stations.” As the men and women turned to look back at their monitors, Shinri merely smiled for a moment as he turned to view the bridge before him. He knew he had earned the Emperor’s respect, and his eye. Unfortunately, he also knew that means he would be watched more carefully by the Changeling Overlord from that moment on. Every move he made would have to live up to his master’s expectation of a being ranked as a General. Otherwise, he’d end up demoted, or worse, floating out in the cold depths of space somewhere. “You heard the Emperor... continue surveillance of the Changeling doppelganger. We need to know what his next moves are, so we can learn how best to approach him... or destroy him, whichever the situation warrants.” ----- “You’re sure that this Sairai can be trusted, King Kakarot?” Vegeta asked, his arms crossed as he surveyed his king sitting upon the old beat up throne that the minister of the church once used. “I’m not entirely sure. He’s definitely worth keeping an eye on, though. To be able to break into the Corporation with a two man team, and then to make off with one of their top secret projects... he’s definitely useful as a tool at the very least,” the king replied. He turned toward the hooded figure behind him. “Broly, your opinion?” “I don’t like him. However, I don’t like Frieza either. Changelings as a general rule disgust me. As for his usefulness as a pawn or an ally, that is entirely up to the rest of you. I have nothing to add, other than to ask what Sairai meant about this other version of myself he met,” the hooded man said, pulling back his hood to reveal a face that would have made Sairai stammer for minutes before regaining his composure. “It’s obvious that your power level in the other universe might be similar to your own here, but I sensed from the young Changeling... a sort of cold dread when he spoke the name. Perhaps in his universe, your power is uncontrolled, much like Nappa’s was when he first ascended to Super Saiyan.” Nappa couldn’t help but laugh at his King’s words. He turned toward the door and began to open it before turning his head back to the assembled Saiyans behind him. “You guys do whatever you want. I know what I’m doing next.” “And what’s that, Nappa?” Vegeta asked as the door shut behind the taller Saiyan. A figure wearing a bright green set of armor walked forward from behind Kakarot and smiled. “Lord Bardock?” Broly asked. The older man rubbed idly at the scar over his eye and smiled. “He wants to fight the new guy, that’s all.” Several ahhh’s filled the room at the remark. It made sense, considering how battle hungry Nappa always seemed to be lately. He always could sniff out the best opponents, at any rate. There were so few in the world that had the ability to find and fight strong enemies quite like Nappa, the so-called “Legendary Super Saiyan.” All of the members of Kakarot’s forces had the power of the Super Saiyan, but Nappa’s seemed to be somewhat different, somewhat... more powerful than their own. He had once been unable to control that power, but now he was among the most powerful fighters in the known universe, and had full control of his abilities. Of all the Saiyans in the universe, only Kakarot had ever managed to put him in his place, and that was a bare thing. ----- Sairai and Frieza stood off in the foyer of the church, waiting for the King’s council session to wrap up. “You know the one in the hood was Broly, right? My Broly.” “Your former partner? I had a feeling that was the case. Not to discriminate against certain Saiyans, but there are some voices you just don’t forget, and Broly’s is one of them for me. He seemed interested to know that the Broly from my universe was nearly unstoppable. I wonder if that means the “Legendary Super Saiyan” in your universe is a different warrior. Frieza nodded and said, “With all the differences between our universes, it’s something that shouldn’t be too surprising. The Saiyan known to have that power in my universe in Nappa.” As soon as Frieza mentioned the name, the door flew open, revealing the large Saiyan. He stared down at the blue Changeling before him and smiled cruelly, his eyes seeming to flash a bright white for a moment. With just the glance, Sairai immediately knew what the giant of a man was after, and he couldn’t be happier. He nodded, stood up, and walked out the door with Nappa following him. As the two of them touched the wet grass outside the church, the both began to rise into the sky. “You don’t seem intimidated by me at all, Changeling... I should change that,” Nappa said with a dark chuckle in his voice. “Intimidation isn’t something that typically works on me. I’m too excited to fight most opponents to let them scare me. It’s just something I seem to have in common with most Saiyans,” the Changeling said back, his eyes narrowing slightly as he crouched lightly, preparing to fight. Nappa seemed slightly impressed, but a little confused at same time. There were few in his universe, the Snow Emperor included, who did not fear his overwhelming power. “So you’re not scared?” he asked as he flexed his bulging muscles and allowed his white-yellow ki to blow out from him like a giant pillar of light. Sairai only shook his head, smiled, and said, “I’m too excited to be scared. The stronger the fighter, the more I want to just dive in and test myself.” “More like a Saiyan than any Changeling I’ve ever seen,” Nappa muttered under his breath. He laughed a little and rushed the reptilian being, slamming into him hard with a single shoulder before grabbing him by the waist with both arms and tossing him into the air. “Ha!” he screamed as a bolt of white light erupted from his mouth, engulfing Sairai in midair. The Changeling held both arms up, allowing the ki to flow around him as he used his own ki to prevent damage to his limbs. The young man looked at Nappa with a smile, knowing that he had found a good match. “I can only imagine how strong you are when you’re not holding back. If you hadn’t been, I’d probably be a pile of ash right now,” he said as his tail began to flick from side to side. His ice blue eyes looked down upon the other man as he allowed his own ki to flow outward from his body and brought both hands back behind his back. “We don’t have time to feel each other out, though. Anyone with ki sense will be able to tell we’re fighting, and I’d rather avoid this church being found out... so...” he focused an immense amount of his ki into the area between both of his hands and began the age old chant he had learned from his first instructor on Earth, when he had still been a simple First Form Changeling. “Ka... me...” he began as his ki began to bellow out around him. I’ll have to access one hundred percent of my full power if I’m going to stand even the smallest chance against this man, he thought as his muscles tensed, growing more compact and bulging out only slightly. He could feel the power welling from within his body. It was almost as if facing this man had caused him to awaken in some way to the power he had once commanded when he was in his home universe. “Ha... me...” This is the power that I was once able to call upon command. I will attain it once more, if it kills me. There is nothing I cannot accomplish. I am a Changeling with the soul of a Saiyan. Nappa, you had better be ready for this! “HA!” he screamed as he brought both cupped hands forward and unleashed a gigantic wave of blue ki down upon the Saiyan. Nappa seemed genuinely surprised and even a little flustered as the attack came down upon his head, but with a crack of his neck and a smirk, he backhanded the ki wave harmlessly into the air above his head, allowing it to stream harmlessly out into space. The large Saiyan’s eyes had begun to glow white, and his beard had grown significantly longer and gained a greenish yellow tint. “So... this is the Legendary Super Saiyan, the most powerful form of the Super Saiyan transformation. I thought it would be impressive, but to backhand one of my most powerful attacks away like swatting a bothersome pest is... more than I’d considered possible.” “If that is one hundred percent of your power, Changeling...” Nappa said as he appeared behind Sairai and rammed a fist into the being’s spine, “you are out of your league.” Sairai spun in the air, allowing the blow to flow through his body and out relatively harmlessly. He turned and faced the taller man with a slight smirk on his face. He knew that this being was telling the truth. The amount of pure power emanating from this man was beyond anything he had ever seen. He could see truthfully how much more powerful that Broly could have become than him, but it gave him only the desire to grow more powerful, to exceed the power of this Saiyan so that he could stand on even footing with the most powerful of all Saiyans, regardless of how much power he contained within his body and soul. “So... I’ll just have to push beyond one hundred percent then, won’t I?” Sairai asked as he vanished from sight and came in under Nappa’s defenses, nailing him in the gut with a full force punch. “There is one thing I was taught when I was training on Earth. That is, there is no such thing as truly achieving one hundred percent. Everyone can improve and keep improving... until...” he wrenched his fist and sent the larger Saiyan spinning in the air before raising a single finger above his head, producing a large blue ball of ki above his head, crackling with bright white lightning around it. “Until you have surpassed your limit!” he yelled as he released the Death Ball in one fell motion, throwing it with a twirl that sent it spiraling through the air toward the larger man. As the sphere of ki approached Nappa, it began to thin out toward the front, the lightning crackling around it in a spiral. It began to resemble a tornado tilted to its side. “Now... Death Drill,” Sairai said as he raised a single hand toward the attack that he had launched. It caught Nappa square in the chest and began to shred through his Flexweave armor. Nappa smiled as blood began to pour out from the rip in his chest plate and then gripped the “drill” with a single hand, perhaps hoping to pull it out by sheer strength alone. Not in the mood to have another of his attacks fail, Sairai released a concussive blast of ki from his hand directly at the drill, forcing it deeper into the rocklike wall of muscle that it had run into. The drill went in another few inches, forcing droplets of blood to begin dripping down the lips of the larger man before him. |

“I will surpass one hundred percent. I will achieve a level of power no Changeling or Saiyan has ever seen,” Sairai said, a cold look passing over his eyes as he watched Nappa continue to struggle against the attack piercing through his abdomen. “Don’t think you’ll get the chance, you snake,” Nappa whispered as he gritted his teeth and gripped the Death Drill as tightly as he could, crushing it within his palm. “I’m not going to let you win.” “I don’t assume that I’ll win at my current level. I still have a lot to learn... but... so do you,” the Changeling said through a grim smile. He continued smiling even as Nappa’s large palm smashed across his face, sending him flying back over a hundred yards. Without so much as fighting gravity, the Changeling disappeared into the forest below and immediately hid his ki. The Saiyan looked around, confused as to why his scouter wasn’t picking up any power from the other being. “He’s too strong to die from something like that,” he said, grimacing as he coughed up a small bit of blood. “Damn clever, though, nailing me with a piercing attack like that. Just like his race, to go for something that can ignore another man’s armor...” Sairai smiled as he sat atop the church below and looked up at the confused man. With a sigh, he released his ki to full strength and raised a single finger at the man. “You know,” he said, laughing a little, “for a man so big and tough looking, you’re a lot smarter than you look.” The Saiyan turned with a look of astonishment. How could he have not sensed the other being so close to himself? “Oh, how did I slip past your scouter until now? I can hide my ki signature, make myself impossible to sense,” the Changeling explained as he flicked out his middle finger next to his index and held it up like a gun. “Now... let’s see here. I’ve been working on developing the Kamehameha wave into something a bit more to my usual tastes. Let’s see if I can pull it off. Two-fingered Kamehameha,” he said simply as a large beam of blue-white energy erupted from his extended fingers and wrapped the larger man in a cold embrace. The large Saiyan laughed from within the raging energy as it began to slowly dissipate. What was revealed was the man, surrounded by a sphere of translucent ki that protected his body from the brunt of the attack. “Of course you’d have a barrier skill. It seems to be common stock for everyone I’ve fought lately,” Sairai muttered under his breath, just loud enough for the Saiyan to hear. “You should be flattered, lizard. It’s not often I’m forced to use it,” Nappa retorted. “Face it, monkey, there’s no way either of us is getting out of this without both of us ending up in a healing chamber,” Sairai spat. As much as he hated those glowing green things, without the Senzu Beans he had carried while on his homeworld, they were the simplest and quickest way to heal oneself after a hard battle. And this battle was proving to be one hell of a test of his endurance. Coughing, Nappa allowed his ki to die down for a moment. “I agree, and we really don’t have time for that, do we?” This time it was the Changeling’s turn to laugh. “I wouldn’t go that far. I still want to prove to you that I’m no mere lizard!” Sairai yelled as he rushed the man. The two of them were caught in a long series of punches, kicks, blocks, and dodges, as they rose higher into the sky above the church. As the two men circled one another, Sairai smiled at the larger man, and could sense that the other man was similarly happy with the turnout of their little mid-battle conversation. “We’ll end this just as soon as one of us is knocked out!” Sairai yelled through the flurry of blows before he took an elbow to the side of the head. Shaking it off immediately, he countered it with a knee to the gut of his opponent, which was swiftly countered by a headbutt to the face. “A man after my own heart!” Nappa yelled out as he brought his hand back for a powerful backhand to Sairai’s face. The Changeling immediately countered with a spinning tail strike that put just enough distance between himself and the Saiyan for him to release a flurry of ki blasts at point blank range. Sairai disappeared and allowed his ki to drop momentarily as he rested. He was beginning to tire, he knew, but he could feel that the other man was similarly losing his energy, and wouldn’t be able to carry on indefinitely. The golden green glow of Nappa’s ki increased as the smoke suddenly cleared. The Saiyan’s lips were crusted with blood, and Sairai knew that he himself must similarly look beat to hell, even though he was not bleeding yet. “Damn it... at this rate we really will beat each other unconscious, won’t we?” Sairai asked as he looked into the blue-green eyes of his opponent. “Your power just keeps increasing as you keep fighting... That one was much stronger than the one you used on me before, Changeling.” “Seems I finally got you to look at me as an equal, you titan of a Saiyan,” Sairai chuckled under his breath. “Not quite. You’d have to beat me for that to happen,” the Saiyan said back, chuckling under his breath. His eyes narrowed as he brought his hand back over his shoulder, a ball of light appearing there. “Let’s just end this quick,” he said as he pushed his arm forward with as much force as he could, unleashing a massive ki wave directly at the Changeling. “I couldn’t agree more,” Sairai responded as he unleashed a pair of ki waves of his own that combined with each other before meeting the Saiyan’s own. The two beings pushed their ki against each other, each pushing harder and harder until the yellow and blue ki took on a decidedly green color as they combined in the center. “Come on, dammit!” Nappa screamed as he pushed the last of his ki into the wave. The Changeling’s eyes grew wide as the yellow wave engulfed his own and smashed into his body. He stood in the center of the energy, hardly feeling it as his skin was burned with the immense power of the Legendar Super Saiyan. He blinked a couple of times and smiled as the wave finished passing around him. “Damn it... I lost,” he said as he used the last of his remaining ki to float to the ground in front of the church. As his feet touched the ground, he collapsed onto his back and laughed. “You beat me, you titanic bastard,” he yelled up at the Saiyan. Even as the words left his mouth, he watched as Nappa’s beard returned to its normal black color. The larger man’s eyes slowly closed and he fell to the ground with a loud crash. “Again, not quite,” Nappa said from within the crater his body had created in front of the chapel. At those words, the two warriors could only laugh at the insane predicament they had placed themselves in. Sairai could barely twitch his tail, let alone stand up, and he was sure the same was true of the Saiyan collapsed nearby. “A draw, then?” Sairai asked. “I guess I really can call you an equal now,” the larger being laughed. ----- Within the chapel, Kakarot, Frieza, and the rest listened as the fighting came to a close. They had been following the entire thing on their scouters while trying to lay out some plans on which planet to visit first. When both massive ki signatures had sunk to far below normal levels, they stopped what they were talking about for a moment. “You don’t think...?” Frieza started to ask before Kakarot interrupted him. “How powerful is this Sairai guy, anyway?” he asked as he walked out into the courtyard. He looked at the Changeling, laying just feet away from the door, and then over to his Elite Guard, lying in a hole some feet away. “What happened out here?” he asked, a look of quiet confusion on his face. “Well,” Sairai started. “I don’t know what to tell ya,” Nappa said. “We kinda beat each other into submission.” “Seriously?” the king asked as he knelt down before the Changeling. “I think you’re the only person besides me who’s ever even come this close to outright beating him. I must say I’m impressed.” “Don’t be... I still think he was holding back,” Sairai responded. “Don’t whine. You were holding back too,” the large Saiyan said. “After all, we didn’t want to destroy the hideout.” “Get the two of them in the ship!” Kakarot commanded. His men jumped to work immediately, grabbing the large Saiyan and the Changeling and carrying them aboard the ship. “With the display of power you two just put out, it’s only a matter of time before the Corporation or someone else finds this place, if they’re not already on their way. We’re in no position to take on someone like them with two men unable to fight,” he grumbled under his breath as he climbed into the ship. The interior of the ship looked much like any other, metallic walls and control panels littering the interstellar vehicle, each with a specific function to carry out within the ship’s design. With a single motion of his hand, Kakarot motioned for Frieza to take the pilot’s seat. With a nod, the short being jumped up into the chair and began fiddling with the controls, activating the ship’s ki shielding before taking off. The ship, which looked more like a small battleship than a normal Earth space vehicle, began to float off the ground with the help of the anti-gravity engines. “Clean propulsion. You wouldn’t really expect it of the Corporation to be environmentally conscious,” Frieza muttered under his breath. “Don’t mistake them,” Sairai said from the bench he’d been set on as he painfully sat up to make room for others to sit down. “They just want to advertise it as being equipped with the most advanced tech known to man. They don’t care about preserving anything. They can always relocate to another planet if this one starts to fall to pieces on them. In fact, I’m sure they already have a spare planet to use just in case.” Kakarot and Frieza both nodded at the thought, admitting that it made sense. “Damn... we were too slow,” Frieza muttered under his breath as he pressed a button on his scouter. “Four large ki signatures closing in...” As he continued trying to scan them in a more precise manner, his scouter beeped loudly before shutting off. “The emergency shut off function activated. One of the beings has a power level in excess of twenty million,” he said, scowling. He turned the ship in midair and took his scouter off. “King Kakarot... we’re not going to all get away from this, at least not without some kind of miracle.” The king nodded and motioned for Vegeta to come to him. The two of them shared a couple of whispers and nodded at each other. “We don’t have a choice... a couple of us will have to stay and fight. Vegeta’s already volunteered. How about you, Raditz? You want a chance to tear apart some of the Corporation’s finest?” he asked his brother with a smile. “You don’t want in on the action yourself? You’re not normally the cautious type, brother.” “Frieza’s the pilot, and I need to make sure that this ship makes it off planet. I’m the last line of defense. Remember, Nappa’s out of commission, and so is the blue Changeling... I have to make sure this thing makes escape velocity.” “You’ve got a point. These two got the ship for us, and it’d be a shame to lose it. Not to mention stealing another would be almost impossible.” “I’m going too...” Frieza said as he stood up from the seat. “I’ve set the autopilot to circle the planet in outer orbit. Only someone who can breathe in space, like me or Sairai will be able to get to it, and I don’t plan to leave anyone behind. I’ll help take these four down.” “You’re sure? None of us knows how to pilot this thing if you fail.” “The specs are in your scouter, and it’s pretty easy. About the same as piloting a Changeling Saucer.” “Ah, gotcha. We’ve driven enough of those to know the general gist. You three be careful. I don’t think the main one’s going to be easy for any of you to take out.” Raditz and Vegeta stood side by side and allowed their ki to flare out around them. It began to take on a decidedly yellow hue as their hair began to lighten to a bright blonde. Their eyes began to glow a bright blue as the opened the door on the side of the ship. “Coming Frieza?” Raditz asked, winking before he jumped out of the ship. Vegeta followed suit, saluting both the Changeling and the King before jumping out. “This might be the death of us,” Frieza said. As he started for the door, Sairai put a hand on his shoulder. “I won’t be able to fight, but I can at least help you out. Take some of my ki,” he said as a bright blue energy began to form around his hand. It flowed into the body of the smaller man. Frieza could feel the power flowing through his body. His muscles felt harder than the mightiest diamond. “Use it to achieve your true power, cousin. Show these fools what the Changelings are truly capable of,” the blue Changeling said as he lay down on the bench. “And make sure they don’t mess up my nap,” he finished, chuckling as his eyes slowly closed and he began to drift off to sleep. Frieza jumped out of the door to follow the Saiyans, and Sairai opened his eyes as the door slid closed. “What’d you do to him?” Kakarot asked as the Changeling smiled. “I gave him a portion of my power to act as a guide between his current level and the true power he’s capable of. At least, I hope I did. I’ve never done it before.” “You...” “Just watch,” Sairai said as he walked over to the pilot’s chair and hit a couple of buttons. A view of the area the two teams would most likely collide was brought up. “We’re going to get one hell of a show, I’m sure.” “Why don’t you go out there yourself?” “I have only enough power to remain conscious... barely. I gave all the rest that I had to Frieza. Did you forget how badly your flunkey beat me up?” he asked, laughing. “Not like you turned down the fight or anything.” “Who would? The stronger the enemy, the more I want to fight them,” the Changeling said. “I was always told I had more the soul of a Saiyan than I did of a Changeling.” “Sounds like you would be told that, and I understand. You’re hoping that small power you gave Frieza will be enough?” “Well... I’ve felt the ki of the strongest one before. It’s much stronger and even more toxic, but I know Cell when he’s nearby.” “Cell?!” Kakarot yelled as he rushed up to the screen. “There’s got to be something else we can do. He’s the closest thing to a Saiyan/Changeling hybrid I’ve ever seen. Those three will get slaughtered!” “Have some faith in your men and Frieza. Man, that still sounds weird coming from my own lips,” Sairai said. “They’ll win because they have to. But just in case, get me and big boy into the Rejuvenation Tanks. We should be recovered within an hour or two. If things go south, at least you’ll have a last stand for the ship.” “Much as I hate to admit it... you’re right. Broly, Bardock, get these two to the infirmary and get them hooked up. We’ll need all the strength we can if Cell wins the skirmish planet side.” ----- Frieza shot past the Saiyans, his eyes glowing with the power that Sairai had given him. The air blew past him, but he hardly noticed it as his ki seemed to burn off of his skin like a bright violet flame. The trees below blurred in his vision, and he could tell he was only going so fast because of Sairai, but it still didn’t stop him from enjoying his newfound power, at least until he came face to face with the being that he feared meeting above all others he had heard about on Earth. Before him stood a man with a gray face and square jaw, and what appeared to be a pair of green insect wings sticking off of his head. He looked part human, part Changeling, and part a hundred other things. “What the hell are you?” he asked as he came to a stop before the being. “You take part in murdering one of my children and you have the audacity to ask me what I am. I am the ultimate life form, the Perfect Being, Cell,” the being responded as they looked one another in the eyes. “I see... you’re the one Sairai didn’t want to meet,” Frieza said. “I can see why. Your ki is toxic.” “Toxic? Yes, I could see how you’d think that, considering the amount of life force I’ve consumed on this planet in order to attain my current level of power,” the ‘perfect’ being responded. “Now... you helped kill one of my children, and now I will take your power... I will absorb you and add to my already considerable strength.” “Don’t think you’ll be that lucky,” Raditz said as he finally showed up behind Frieza, Vegeta at his side. “We’re not letting you kill us, and we’re sure as hell not letting you take our new ship.” “I don’t give a rat’s ass about the ship, monkey. I’m here to take the power of the man who killed my second born.” “So you’re after Sairai... well, we can’t let you do that either,” Frieza said as he lowered himself into a crouch and allowed his ki to flare out around him. A severe pain shot through his body as his ki continued to expand around him. He doubled over in pain as his muscles began to bulge and cracks appeared in his armor scales. “What in the hell is happening to me?!” he screamed at the top of his lungs. Calm down, Frieza... I’m opening the path to your true power, the true form of all Changelings. Just let the energy flow. “Sai-?” he started to ask just as he was racked with another round of severe pain. Within seconds, his power spiked and an explosion of ki erupted out from his body, sending shockwaves all around that knocked back both Saiyans and the three security personnel that had followed Cell. As the dust cleared, there stood Frieza, his body sleek and smooth, light glistening off his white body as his ki flared out around him. He looked at his own body in amazement and smiled. He looked just like Sairai, save for the purple armor scales and lack of spines growing from his legs and arms. “The true power of the Changeling race... the Fourth Form,” he whispered as he looked at Cell with a smile. “I’ll show you our true power!” He rushed Cell and smashed him in the stomach before grabbing him with his tail and tossing him into the sky. With a single outstretched hand, Frieza screamed, “Death Wave!” as a wave of bright violet ki erupted from his palm and smashed into the green being above. Without even missing a beat, he was up where he had blasted the green bio-android and began pummeling him with fists and feet alike. Cell, however, seemed unsurprised as he blocked each of the blows. He caught Frieza’s leg in one arm and spun him around in the air before throwing him and holding up a single hand of his own, releasing a black-blue Death Wave from his own hand, engulfing the smaller being within a torrent of ki. “Don’t underestimate the perfect being. I’m much more powerful than any single race could dream of being. That includes the Changelings, the DNA of which exists within me, along with humans, Saiyans, and Namekians.” A second later, he was in front of Frieza, kicking him in the gut. “I have all the strengths of your races and none of the weaknesses!” he screamed as he brought down both hands and hammered the Changeling in the middle of the spine, sending him careening toward the ground. The two Saiyans watched, amazed that the two beings had already begun fighting when they had not even started for themselves. The other three men with Cell seemed a bit preoccupied with the fight between the two other beings as well, and had to all appearances forgotten about the Saiyans. “Big mistake,” Raditz said as he and Vegeta rushed the three. With a single blow, Raditz cracked the skull of one of the beings wide open, and smiled as he watched him fall to the ground, unconscious or dead, the Saiyan did not know. “Well, that’s one down,” he said. “Taking out a communications officer like that... that’s low,” one of the other men said under his breath. “He’s a noncombatant!” “Humans... always have to have an excuse. Why the hell you even need a Comm Officer in the first place? Anyway, if you two don’t want to fight, clear out and we’ll just help our boy there finish off your boss.” “Even if you could beat Cell, which you can’t, we’re not allowed to leave until everyone involved with that Blue Changeling is dead.” Vegeta’s fist landed dead center of the solar plexus of one of the men, forcing air out of his lungs and causing him to fall from the sky for a few moments before he righted himself, wheezing in agony. “You’d think the ‘perfect’ being’s flunkeys would be a little more powerful than this, or does he like having low level peons working under him to make him feel even more perfect?” “That... hurt...” the human responded weakly. “Prince Raditz... let’s end them and then get up there to help Frieza.” “You’re right. This isn’t much fun. Fighting that Cell creature seems much more our speed,” Raditz replied as he caused his ki to spike. He rushed the being that was unharmed and rammed his knee into his abdomen before raising both palms up toward the sky and unleashing a pair of bright purple ki waves from his hands and directly into the person’s body. He watched with satisfaction as the man disappeared within the ki blast. “You sure you want to stay around, tiny?” he asked the other man, who had still not yet caught his breath. “We can’t let him return to the Corporation in that shape. He’d be up for execution immediately. Just run somewhere, and don’t let them find you, alright? You’re not even worth finishing off,” Vegeta said as he turned his attention to the fight between Frieza and Cell. “Besides, we have a bigger fish to fry.” “You have a point,” the human said as he flew off toward the west, never to be seen or heard from again. “Now... Let’s get to it, shall we?” Raditz said as he and Vegeta flew up to where Cell and Frieza were still fighting. Frieza rushed Cell and attempted to punch him in the gut, but was immediately blocked. The two of them began flying through the air. Up, right, down, left, it seemed there was no pattern, but the two traded blows the entire way, neither able to land a full hit. “Damn you!” Frieza screamed as he released a Death Beam from his fingers at Cell’s chest. The bio-droid only barely managed to escape the blast, a blow glancing across his perfect face, leaving a small burn mark on the flawless, gray skin. “H-how dare you?!” Cell screamed. In the background, as Cell came forward and smashed Frieza’s jaw with a side swing, he thought he heard someone yelling. As the ringing in his ears stopped and his sight grew clearer, he saw Vegeta, standing spread eagle in the sky, a pair of golden energy orbs formed in his hands. “FLASH!” Vegeta yelled as he slammed the orbs together, releasing a torrent of ki from directly behind Cell. Frieza used all of his speed to flash out of the way of the incoming blast and watched with a somewhat bemused expression as Cell was engulfed in the wave. A twin torrent of energy engulfed the same spot as the Final Flash hit, just as the wave of energy was beginning to dissipate. “Take it!” Raditz yelled as the purple energy engulfed Cell’s body. Frieza, do it now! he heard Sairai’s voice scream from within his head. Trusting Sairai’s ki sense to tell him where to aim, he raised his hand above his head and formed a quick Death Ball, tossing it directly at the area where Cell had been flying. As it made contact with Raditz’s beams, it exploded outward, clearing away all of the excess energy, to leave Cell standing there, his body burnt and smoking, but otherwise unharmed. “But... damn it... How powerful is this guy?!” Frieza yelled to himself as he rushed toward Cell, with the other two coming in at the same speed, prepared for a triple-sided attack. A flash of ki was all that Frieza could see as Cell raised both his arms and one leg to block all three punches. “You think that this kind of power can even scratch my perfect body? You’re weak... You’re too weak for me to even consider fighting! Do you honestly believe that you have the power to defeat me, even three on one?! Your arrogance disgusts me,” he saidas he released his tail from under his wings and spun in midair, slamming all three of the fighters into each other and sending them flying. A flash of bright violet light erupted from the sky, engulfing Cell in its power. The three fighters righted themselves as they watched Cell being pushed down into the forest below, crashing into the ground. “What are you waiting for, Brother?! Get the hell out of here!” a voice called from the sky. “You can’t win right now. He’s too powerful. Get out of here!” “C-Cooler?” Frieza said, looking around for his brother. He couldn’t see him, however, and instead opted to take the older Changeling’s advice. He pressed a single button on his Scouter, summoning the ship to their location in almost an instant. The three battered warriors boarded and flew up into the sky, and out into the space, leaving the Earth, and Cell, behind. On board the ship, the Frieza jumped onto the communication program and sent out a hailing call, which was quickly picked up by a Changeling Saucer in the distance. The face on the monitor was that of Cooler, though a much different Cooler than Frieza had last seen. It seemed that he had gained the ability to transform into the Fourth Form as well. “I’m glad you’re alright, Brother. You can’t imagine the difficulty I had pinpointing the planet you were on. I made it just in time to see you finally achieve your Fourth Form. Seems that creature you were fighting was far beyond even that power level at current however. Where are you headed?” “We’ve teamed up with King Kakarot and have not decided on a heading quite yet. We’re looking to gain as many allies as we can against this Master creature. I’ve considered Namek and Planet Vegeta as options,” Frieza responded to his brother, taking up a business tone. There would be time for pleasantries later, the both of them knew. They needed to escape this system as soon as possible, or risk getting chased down by the Corporation, and worse, Cell. “I suggest Vegeta first. That’s the planet I was on before I stole this ship to come find you. The Saiyans there aren’t the most hospitable, but as long as you can fight, they’ll welcome you with open arms. Besides, they hate this Master guy too. Fill me in on the details as we travel, if you don’t mind.” “By the way... Your Highness?” Cooler asked, his eyes flicking to Kakarot. “Yes?” “Why wasn’t Nappa out there fighting?” “Oh, he and another universe’s Sairai, one who’s on our side, beat the shit out of each other, and they’re recovering in the Rejuvenation Tanks.” “Ah, I see. That would explain it.” “Not shocked about Sairai?” Frieza asked his brother in a mocking tone. “With what I’ve seen on Vegeta, anything is possible,” the older brother said, rolling his eyes. |
