Trainer Profile
Character Name: Keeran Katsaros Gender: Male Age: 16 Birthday: November 29th, 184 Trainer Class: Medium
Height: 5'4 Weight: 130 lbs Hair Color & Style: Thick, neatly combed black shoulder length hair, with a fringe that scarcely covers the top of his eyes. The ends of his hair slightly curl towards his neck. Eyes: Almond shaped, hazel eyes, with short eyelashes and a small iris. His iris is a dark brown at the periphery of his pupil, but gradually lightens away from the centre of his iris. He suffers from short-sightedness and has to wear glasses to perceive the world correctly. Clothing/Accessories: Keeran's attire consists of simple, if formal clothing. He has thin dark blue plastic glasses with a full rimmed frame and a second, almost identical spare with black frames. He most commonly wears a black, long sleeved collared shirt and trousers alongside black dress shoes. During miserable weather he wears a plain deep blue synthetic rain coat. He will supplement this by wearing a black or dark blue jumper over his shirt during cold weather, but usually fails to deviate from his standardised dress code. General Appearance: Keeran has a rounded face characterised by small features, with thin black eyebrows, a petite nose and mouth. He has pale skin and his cheeks and nose are covered by a soft line of freckles. Furthermore, he has a slender form and noticeably has little muscle. Often he fidgets when standing still, but his movement tends to be frigid and he often looks marginally towards the ground in public. An aversion to physical activity during his youth has left him with a frail form. The first impression of most is that he seems distant, looking at something beyond their perception. Keeran possesses a tendency to stare at others when thinking, though he avoids looking directly at their face, a habit that often unnerves those whom are unaware of this.
Hometown: Oraclair Town, North Godai
Personality Personality: Shy, distant and aloof, Keeran tends to be reserved and pretends to lack interest in those around him and is averse to directly looking at others. Despite this, his curiosity entices him to respond to small talk, though he usually avoids being particularly friendly and often chooses to outright ignore the presence of those whom even barely slight him. His conversations are usually short and formal, though he is capable of talking for long periods of time on subjects he has an interest in. Ironically, he is capable of being an effective public speaker despite his hesitation to speak in regular conversations. Normally, Keeran is serious and his face is normally vacant. Rarely emotion flickers briefly on his face, often when he is surprised or unaware of another's presence.
Keeran is a medium and has potential in viewing aura scars, though he lacks training and does not comprehend his ability to see them. In addition, he possesses the ability to feed on the emotion energy, to absorb energy from places that have had scenes imprinted into them, a trait he shares with the Ghost-Pokemon that both fascinate and adore him. Unlike his ability to see scenes however, his ability to absorb the energy imprinted in these places is unusually powerful for a medium but the skill is squandered due to his disbelief in the powers of mediums and his own ignorance towards his own powers. Keeran is naturally drawn to Ghost-types and studies them due to their ability to affect aura and he himself desires to become a researcher that specialises in the study of Ghost-types. Keeran is also fascinated with the historical civilisations in Godai and the also their presentation of legendary Pokemon, despite doubting their existence.
Ambition heavily influences him, he is almost relentlessly driven to achieve his goals, allowing himself to be limited only by the practical necessities of his situation. Keeran is driven by his curiosity and desire to learn, and treats travelling as an extension of his education, which he found dull due to his ability to easily score high grades in his academic subjects during his years in school as a result of his godfather tutoring him in maths and science. However, he was completely incompetent in physical education which he viewed as dull and useless, alongside creative subjects such as art, drama and music. Despite his contempt for the schooling system because of these subjects, he still intends to attend a university as he values education and as he feels it would be a waste to not take such an opportunity.
Keeran treats his friends, family and Pokemon well, partially out of compassion for them but also because he rejects the idea that fear is a powerful motivator. Nevertheless, in some exceptions he himself contradicts this belief when he feels it would be convenient to do so or even simply because he holds a grudge. Indeed, he views such hypocritical thoughts as typical of humanity as a species in general, and he silently admonishes himself for his own participation in this. The politicisation of his began early within his life as his Godfather Kagawa encouraged him to read philosophy and political texts. Originally his beliefs were adapted from those of his godfather; the belief in equality, the advancement of humanity as a species through science, while respecting the beliefs of others and participation in the current government to achieve change. He even adopted Kagawa's Javgranist belief of avoiding violence.
However, his study of historical texts and, ironically, the science books his godfather recommended to him over the years made him question the Kagawa's views; he was befuddled by the insistence to ignore scientific studies in favour of what he viewed as trivialities, and chose to silently reject the tenants of religion. He began to view the current government as nothing better, viewing the monarchy as little more than a glorified despotism and deplores the idea that the posts chosen to represent Pokemon were allotted from those whom had skills were in battle rather then merit on the subject. However, he does recognise that the current government brings stability and has reached the conclusion that it is better than most alternatives. He also began to reject non-violence as his reading of books dedicated to wild Pokemon suggested to him that it was more natural, and his Akemi's bullying continuing into secondary school convinced him that it would be impossible without much wider rejection in society as a whole. His beliefs strain his relationship with Kagawa, whom views him as too radical, but they still relate through their intellectual interests. Regardless, Keeran is mostly dedicated to a life of political quietism, due to his lack of confidence in his own skills to bring change, a recognition that his ideas lack the mass appeal needed to create actual change and a reluctance to upset the status quo without knowledge that such change would be for the better.
History History: Keeran was born on the 29th November, 184 in Oraclair Town. He never knew his father and his mother died when he was three, and he has little recollection of memories of his family. He was adopted by his mother's friend Professor Kagawa. Keeran moved to Kotaba City where Kagawa had lived alone and studied how Pokemon lived in an urban environment. Growing up in this environment, he was quickly exposed to concepts such as Maths and Science and very quickly became fond of academics and reading non-fiction books. Though he was aware that Kagawa was not his actual parent through Kagawa's openness, he was still close to him and viewed him as family, despite having no shared blood. However, he also had difficulty feeling emotion for his family as he had no proper experience from which to judge them. During his early childhood he became fascinated with Ghost Pokemon after his Godfather brought a Gengar to his laboratory to study.
When he began attending elementary school he began to easily top his class in language, maths and science with high marks, however he had difficulty ever making friends due to his reserved nature and his unorthodox fascination with Ghost Pokemon that unnerved the other students. He quickly developed a rivalry with a classmate Akemi, the daughter of a rich businessman whom began bullying him during his second year, something that Keeran continues to despise her for. During the middling years of primary school his eyesight was damaged after looking at the sun during an eclipse, being unaware of the effects of doing so. Since then he has had to wear glasses to correct his short-sightedness. After this event his godfather encouraged him to achieve well in school and thus he asked him to begin teaching him advanced topics in science and maths early. During his elementary education he also began to ask questions to regarding his mother and father, but professor Kagawa was reluctant to answer except for telling him that his mother was a trainer. Disenchanted, he eventually dropped the subject as he was more comfortable with his relationship with Kagawa and did not wish to damage it by inquiring about his parents.
His life shifted during secondary school, when he developed a close group of friends after helping them complete a particularly difficult biology essay the class had been assigned when the science teacher took a dislike to the class because of the antics of Akemi. They also introduced him to video games; and he instantly took a liking to difficult strategy games, though he was unable to effectively transfer these skills outside of them, they gave him a greater appreciation of Pokemon battling. Despite this he remained outside the popular circles due to mutual conflict between him and Akemi, further strained by his political beliefs, as he disliked Akemi's reliance on inherited wealth. This conflict intensified briefly in the second year; everyone is class had been assigned to do research on a legendary Pokemon from Godai's history and had to give a speech to the class about it. Keeran had been allotted Giratina as the Pokemon for his speech. After concluding, as a form of mockery Akemi compared him to Giratina and concluded he was a 'demon' to his chagrin and the amusement of her friends. Despite eschewing from the nickname and reprimanding those whom used it, Akemi and her friends continued to employ it and this further fueled his distaste of her and also of the popular groups in his school. Though it's usage was mostly abandoned a few months later, Akemi continued to use it to vex him and he harshly rebukes anyone who refers to him using the nickname.
During this time, he regained an interest in discovering information about his parents. Despite lacking any tangible information on them he was committed to enlightening himself on his parents past. During these years he consistently remained at the top of the class, particularly in maths and science due to his advanced understanding of the topics. A state he enjoyed as it was the only way in which he could compete with Akemi. However, he disliked his classmates insistence he was intelligent, as this made him question whether he gained good grades because of his effort or simply because he was lucky and he slightly resented his teacher's idolisation of his grades. An unusual event occurred during his second term of his first year; he gazed upon shadows in the school and quietly trailed them into the courtyard. To his confusion he could not discover any trace of their existence. This was his first experience of his psychic powers. However, he did not recognise this, merely believing it to be a figment of his imagination rather than something tangible and chose to ignore this rather then discover its cause.
Throughout his time at school his life was sheltered and he faced little actual hardship beyond the bullying of Akemi. Indeed, his experience of conflict was mostly through academic treatises and books on subjects such as history, philosophy and politics. This granted him a naïve view of Pokemon and humanity, often idealising the former and demonising the latter. However, his interpretation of such events also suggested that compassion was better than fear, concluding that popular rules usually brought more stability then the rule of the sword, and adopted this interpretation into his own beliefs.
During his years in secondary school time Keeran began assissting his Godfather in his spare time and this gave him an insight into the work of a Pokemon Researcher and convinced him that he wished to study Pokemon himself, specialising in Ghost-types. After a series of brief discussions with Kagawa he decided that upon finishing secondary school he would apply to become a trainer so he could study Pokemon in the field. Upon receiving his license his Kagawa gave him a Yamask which he had hatched from an egg he had previously received as a gift from a colleague.
Relationships Name: Akemi Yanagi Relationship: Childhood Rival
Description Description: Appearance: Yanagi possesses short, neatly cut black hair with her fringe pushed aside. She possesses a pale, almost unblemished face. A pure dark brown iris dominates her eyes, finished with a small amount of make-up upon her eyelashes. She keeps a stylish attire, her staple often being various blouses, jeans and running shoes. She generally appears aloof and alert to strangers. Her height is 5'6 and she weighs 131 lbs.
Personality: Aggressive is the most pertinent word to describe Yanagi. She is forceful to her friends, enemies and even family, dominating every conversation and imposing her presence upon others like a tyrant. Though seemingly selfish and aloof, she does care about her friends, but prefers to present an appearance of superiority. Her aggressiveness has influenced her fighting style, she eschews complex tactics for simple and brutal attacks, using speed and sheer fighting power in order to control and dominate the battlefield. Yanagi is quick to anger, but protective of her friends and Pokémon. However, her anger should not be confused with blind rage; she is no less skilled by her anger, and it even compliments her fighting style. Yanagi has a particularly formidable voice and is exceptionally good at inspiring her Pokémon and others.
A surprising fact to an outside observer is the amount of time Yanagi cares for her Pokémon. Yanagi obsesses over her Pokémon using treats particularly as a reward. Yanagi truly cares for her Pokémon, but this is also tempered by a knowledge that her reckless and brutal tactics create significant strain upon her Pokémon. Combined with a rigorous and thorough training method, Yanagi has become particularly adept at maintaining the loyalty of her Pokémon.
Born to a rich family, her mother working in marketing and her father founder of a moderately successful company in Kotoba City has left Yanagi with a significant amount of money to spend as a trainer. However, she much prefers to earn it during battle then to siphon off her parents, and is resentful at their insistence in helping her. Furthermore, she has a fierce desire to be a superior trainer, as she spent her school career overshadowed by one of her classmates, and wishes to surpass him as a trainer. Yanagi is thus aiming to earn all the gym badges and eventually take on the Championship. Yanagi is suprisingly business-savvy, and possesses a good financial sense.
