The temperature was a tad below average, with the sun being blocked by a plethora of gray clouds. The wind brought a nippy sting to any exposed skin it came into contact with, though it was no where near fast enough to disrupt the most enjoyable feature of the winter season. The ever-so pleasant snowfall. Tiny white flakes of solid water, no two of which were the same, that simply had to fall from the sky to appear beautiful. They landed pleasantly on to the reeds, and while they weighed the tiny plants down, they did no real damage to them. The powerful river turned the tiny specks of cold to mush as they landed on the watery surface, though the river showed signs of beginning the process of freezing over. The snow flakes simply gave the slightly mushy ground a bit of a wet feel to it, something a certain young man walking on it, couldn’t quite feel due to his fashion choice of leather hiking boots.

The young man in question looked to be about seventeen years old, though he could’ve been a bit older at his height. He wore a yellow colored hoodie with a hood wide enough to cover his whole head including his gelled upward hair, with black strings in order to adjust the hoods tightness. The hood was currently up in order to prevent his hair from getting wet, though he had brought enough hair gel to keep his hair set right for the next month. Yellow rimmed sunglasses covered the eyes beneath his hood, kept on for a multitude of reasons, the primary one being a need to keep the snow out of his eyes. His jeans were colored black. His face was a bit wet from the occasional snowflakes that got through and his breathing was a bit ragged due to the cold climate. In truth, young Jason B. Angelo wasn’t very accustomed to the traveling lifestyle, but he kept a brave front. That was what his home city of Kotoba taught him to do. Bravely accept change, without becoming something too different than what you were at the start. That was how he was raised, and that was how he was going to remain. No matter how difficult it seemned, no hardship would crack the shades wearing young man.

“Hmmm….If I want to be a champion, then I’m gonna need more than just Wukong,” Jason said aloud to himself, reaching a hand into the hoodie’s pocket where he kept his Pokeballs when the weather called for it. He gripped the ball containing his first Pokemon casually. “I think about nine more would do the trick, as long as I cover every type we should be good, buddy,” he said to the Chimchar that couldn’t hear him from inside its tiny capsule. Jason had no idea how crazy his life was going to become, but he was almost certain that it would be fun as hell. And so the adventure began.

Proof of encounters (For the whole thread)

The opening act of said adventure showed itself in the buzzing form of a Yanma. It’s wings beat at a speed too fast to register any particular details. It buzzed about cheerfully, not having any true purpose, though its eyes constantly scanned the area surrounding it in order to find something that could give it one. Almost as if Arceus himself was reading the bug type’s thoughts, its eyes rested on a human strolling by the river. The Yanma’s wings buzzed a bit more quickly as it began its speedy descent toward its new playmate. So it began, the adventure of a life time.

Jason had not been expecting the Yanma to fly directly into his face. Of course he had heard it buzzing about above him, but his years of Trainer School had taught him that Pokemon tended to avoid human confrontation. Then, right as the unthinkable happened, it occurred to him that not everything you learned in school applied to real life. It was then that he walked head first into the Yanma’s own face. It didn’t so much “hurt” as much as startle the yellow wearing young man. It certainly didn’t warm the Yanma to the idea of Jason. It gave a small sound of aggravation before buzzing away, all the while grumbling about clumsy humans.

“Wait! Come back!” Jason shouted to the retreating figure of the Yanma. “I wanted to add you to my team,” Jason yelled in vain, as the Yanma disappeared into the distance. Jason’s shoulders slumped a bit, but life wasn’t going to get him down that easily. Turning back to the path forward, he made his way onward to adventure. Unfortunately, adventure made his way toward him, in the shape of an orange sea weasel. Said weasel had been watching the entire exchange from the safety of the slightly chilly river, and was positively ecstatic to meet someone new. Leaping from the river, it clung to the human’s body nuzzling its snout into his chest. It let out a cry of joy in a slightly higher pitch than the average Buizel would.

Jason stared down at the orange head of the snuggly water type, and felt a sense of joy. Reaching a hand onto the little Buizel’s head, he began to stroke it. “Well hello there,” Jason said with a slight chuckle “where’d you come from?” The Buizel stared up into the shades of the human, before smiling and pointing to the right, toward the river.

“Oh duh,” said Jason with a smile, before he grabbed the Buizel by the sides and held it away at arm’s length. He grinned as he looked it over, and received a smile along with a yip of excitement in return. Placing the Buizel on the ground, Jason squatted down to as close to eye level as he could get, and asked “Hey Buizel, would you like to join me on my journey? It’ll be awesome, and I promise you’ll get to do all sorts of cool things like-” Jason's sales pitch was stopped prematurely by the Buizel’s bark of agreement.

Smiling, Jason reached into the pocket of his hoodie, pulled out a Pokéball, tapped the button in the center in order to expand it, and held it out to the Buizel. “Up top…..uh….I’ll call you...Nami. Up top, Nami.” Jason said to the Buizel, his smile widening as the Buizel slapped it’s open palm against the Pokéball, turned into white energy, and flew into the open sphere, which closed with a quiet ping. The button in the center flashed red three times before an audible “bwomp” sealed the deal. One down, eight to go.

With the success of his first capture fresh in his mind, Jason stored the Pokéball back into his pocket, and continued on his path toward the Kagerata Woods. As he strolled along, a quiet splash caught his hear. Looking to the right toward the river, he naively expected another water type to try and tackle him. Instead, his eyes fell on a tiny blue head, staying above the surface enough to look the human in the eyes. The look Jason received from the river dweller stopped him in his tracks. It was a look that conveyed aggravation, hatred, and a general dislike for others all at once. Its tiny black eyes were set in a permanent grimace of disgust. If Jason could see its mouth, he was sure it would be set in a frown. This was not a happy Wooper.

Jason took a nervous step toward the water type. Maybe something was bothering it, and it needed some help. Unfortunately, that was not the case, and the reward for Jason’s worry was a violent one. The Wooper raised itself a few centimeters more above the water’s surface, opened it’s mouth wide, and let loose a hate filled Water Gun. The water surged into Jason’s face and not only popped the right lense out of his shades, but also blasted the gel out of his hair. His now soaking wet hair was dripping gel and water, while also clinging to his face and cheeks. “Dang it! This took me an hour,” Jason said in an aggravated voice as he tried to move the hair out of his eyes. Upon succeeding, he was met with the sight of the Wooper with the same grimace he had originally seen, only this time, one half of the water type was much darker than the other.

Quickly shutting his right eye to avoid the pain of looking at something bright, he stared at the Wooper, before quickly walking back on his path forward. “Jerk,” he muttered under his breath, as he unzipped his hoodie, reached into an inner pocket, and pulled out a second pair of shades. Shutting his eyes, he would take off the ruined pair, and replace them, before re-opening his eyes, and breathing a sigh of relief. Said relief was eliminated by the feeling of bumping into something small.

Looking down, he saw a small frog like creature squatting on it’s hind legs. It was blue with several gray stripes around its torso. It only three fingers on each hand, with the middle one being orange on both of them. Its cheeks were orange, and its eyes were yellow, and conveyed a worried look. Looking down on it, Jason reached out to try and pet it, but a rustle from a nearby bush stopped him. Looking toward the bush, he saw what looked like an older and more combat ready version of the small frog in front of him. It seemed to be a bit more...pointy, and was eyeing the child from afar, like a mother watching a child, which in hindsight was probably the exact relationship they had. Not wanting to feel the wrath of the mother, Jason quickly walked around the child, and began to speed walk down his path. So far his adventure had been both rewarding and wet.

Proof of Encounter

Jason stared down the path ahead of him. His still wet clothes caused him to shiver a bit from the occasional wind chill. “Stupid Wooper” he muttered to himself. He turned around and smiled at the sight of the frog creature being re-united with what Jason assumed to be its mother. The tinier frog was immensely relieved to be with it’s matron once again. Jason felt a ping of longing for his own mother back home in Kotoba. He recalled the earlier simpler days when he could just ask his mother for help and not have to worry about anything at all. Those were the days. His fond reminiscence was short lived however, cut apart by the sound of a bike’s tires slicing through the ground.

Turning his head around, he spotted what appeared to be an elderly woman biking toward him at an accelerating rate. “Shit,” he said as he dove to the right, and out of the way, and into the snow covered ground next to the main road away from the bridge. The world began to spin as he rolled and tumbled toward the river, stopping himself just before he would plunge into the cold water. The sound of tires skidding to a stop on a snowy road filled his ears, as he raised his head to take a look at his possible assailant.

It was an older woman, about seventy or eighty in age, but the look on her face was that of an overly excited child. The bounce in her step as she got off of her racing bike, reminded Jason of the kids in elementary school back in Kotoba. “Sorry about that sonny,” the old woman said not sounding all that sorry, “I didn’t see you there.” Jason was a bit confused as to how she had missed his black and yellow outfit, which was framed against a mostly white road, but he shrugged it off. He raised the hand holding Wukong’s Pokéball, and said in a passive voice, “It’s whatever.” Beginning to walk away, he stopped at the next words to exit the old lady’s mouth. “Oooooh a Pokéball~ Would you like to have a battle, sonny?” Turning his head to look at her, he gave her a smile and said, “Sure.”

Both trainers knew the protocol of battling, and thus moved so that they would start ten feet away from each other, both standing in the center of the dirt road. Holding their individual Pokéballs in hand, they tossed them out in their own unique way. The old woman simply tossed hers with a basic underhanded throw, while Jason tossed his so that it spun backward. Both Pokéballs opened in mid-air and white energy poured from the spheres releasing the two combatants. On the old woman’s side, was a quadrupedal mammal with very buck teeth. On Jason’s side a completely orange monkey with a wavy flame like wisp flowing atop his head was formed from the white energy. Said monkey wore a pair of sunglasses that both reflected the low amounts of sunlight, and covered the Chimchar’s eyes.

The old woman smiled at the site of the accessorized Pokémon. “Oh the things young people do to look interesting.” Jason took a minor amount of offense from that, but remained non vocal about his opinion. Being upset while battling wasn’t the best thing to do. He needed a level head, though his opponent’s pokémon didn’t look like much. It was just a Bidoof, nothing special. “Okay Lovely,” the old woman called out, “start with an Attract attack!” Uh oh. “WUKONG MOVE!” Jason quickly shouted, motivating the smirking monkey in to action. The Bidoof, which Jason assumed to be female winked one of it’s eyes at the monkey, sending a sparkling pink heart in his direction. The heart was moving fast, but Wukong was thankfully just a bit faster. The fire type did a quick side flip out of the way, or at least he began to, before he stopped mid cartwheel. The heart simply sailed by and dissipated, but the real subject of attention was the Chimchar. Standing on his hands, he simply stared at the female Bidoof. He let out a sigh of affection. Oh no.

Jason began to shout that the monkey needed to get over his affection. Meanwhile the old woman smirked as she ordered a Tackle from the Bidoof. Charging forward the quadruped had all expectations of slamming into the monkey with no consequence. Sucker. When the Bidoof got within range of Wukong, Jason shouted “Now!” Folding his elbows, Wukong leapt forward from his upside-down position in such a way that allowed him to land feet first onto Bidoof’s back. The shocked quadruped had no time to wonder what had happened, before the monkey began scratching painfully into her back. The Bidoof began to squeal in pain, though the monkey on it’s back kept at it. The Chimchar couldn’t feel bad for the poor pampered beaver. Pity would mean he would lose.

Finally, after a solid minute of scratching, the Bidoof turned into formless red energy, and then disappeared. Wukong fell to the ground, looking surprised. Jason however saw how the old woman, had returned he Bidoof due to fear of it getting seriously hurt. Putting the Bidoof’s Pokéball back into her purse, she bowed her head to Jason, got on her bike, and simply rode away. Jason looked after her before smiling and holding an open palmed hand out to his Wukong. The monkey ran forward and leapt into the air, slapping his tinier palm against his trainer’s. Returning Wukong after their classic victory high five, Jason stared down at the Pokéball in his hand. A win, and a new team member all in about an hour, not bad. He turned around in place and began walking toward wherever he was going next, his usual swagger and grace evident by the bounce in his step. He still didn’t know how his future would unfold, but he knew that it would be an awesome ride no matter what. He placed his hand behind his head and raised his hood back up. Winter may be cold and dark, but the future looked pretty bright.
