It was so cold. So deliciously, this mind-numbing chill that seeped into every pore. The snow.. It was beautiful in a way even he could appreciate. Most fell in love with the purity of the falling flakes, but for Lymrik it was their deadly qualities that astounded him. The way they could sneak in through any crevice, taking away the senses and slowly kill a person without them even realizing it. Not until it was too late. It was a beautiful level of terror.

Not to mention it was so pleasantly cold. All his usual layers left things too stuffy, too itchy, too hot. Here in the cool evening, he stripped off his coat and vest, and had to resist the urge to remove his flats as well. Just enjoying that beautiful chill.

It had taken him so long to find the edge of the forest. He’d been roused by Skuu, who had hidden during the confrontation with that despicable Shroomish. Frustrated by the situation, Lymrik had lain the blame on the fact he’d been waiting for Henry, and thus taken his chance to leave the minute he could stand again. However he’d been left in the dark alone once again, as Terry had been too weakened by the confrontation to guide him. Skuu had tried, but she had no experience leading the vision impaired boy, and every sound made her jerk back so hard she knocked Lymrik over on numerous occasions.

It had taken ages. A full day, in fact. They’d walked in circles until day had broken, the pair cowering under Lymriks umbrella and some overhanging canopy as they walked. As the day crept back into late evening, the two had finally broken free from the forest into a shockingly open landscape. Minutes passed, spent in silence as the boy admired the shapes he could make out. It was so different, so beautifully contrasting to what he knew. He wanted to run out, spinning and screaming through the stretch of white, but his limbs just wouldn’t allow it. All he could manage was a rough shuffle, followed by the removal of a few layers. With the sun dipping down again, he felt safe enough to enjoy this large gift of newness.

Lymrik suddenly heard a gurgle, so loud it made Skuu jump. His hand brushed delicately over his stomach, feeling the rumble of the concaving flesh. He was hungry, starving even. How long had it been since he’d had a good meal? A day, it seemed, and Lymrik was already feeling the heavy effects of skipped food. A few snacks he’d taken along with him had already been devoured earlier, afterall. Hearing a shuffle to his right, Lymrik watched Skuu vanish back into the forest, reappearing a few moments later, waving something in her claws. Crouching down, Lymrik observed the items as closely as he could before smiling. Blackberry's, wrapped in leaves for carrying. ”You’re a miracle worker, Skuu,” he giggled, eagerly munching the bit of fruit she’d fetched for him. It was enough to hold him over, at least for a little while longer. ”We’d better hurry though... I have an idea!

Gesturing for Skuu’s tail, he carefully gripped it below the stinger to avoid any accidents. Like a seeing-eye-dog, he allowed the pokemon to lead him out into the snow. Even in the darkness, it was blinding. Not exactly helpful when one’s vision was already limited, but Skuu’s guidance assisted. There was still the occasional stumble as Lymrik tried to adjust his walking to Skuu’s own, and even like this he couldn’t quite avoid every single stone. It was enough though. Just enough.

Crossing the expansive snowy wastes, Lymrik could feel the chill seeping into his slips. It was only a light snow that had fallen, signaling an early begin to winter, but it was enough to chill the air and ground and give him an obscured image of things. The further out he and Skuu moved, the more sparse it became, and often the squelch of mud would break through the crunch of fresh snow. He probably looked awful. All muddy with his hair stuck on end, bits dried and caked to his skin. Not to mention he’d yet to clean the injury to his palm, and it was starting to itch, only eased by the way it ground against the rough carapace of Skuu’s tail. Not to mention he’d lost one of his slips back in that forest. Maybe the doc would send him a new one if he asked? Then again, that would be requesting help, and he was a being who needed no-ones help.

Suddenly the ground rose at an angle, and Skuu halted. A quick feel around, the sound of rushing water below... Lymrik figured he must be on a bridge of some sort. Skuu was starting back though, interested in the reeds below. Lymrik released his grip on her and instead clung to the edge of the bridge, watching the stark purple blur creep down and begin munching. While he wasn’t exactly comfortable with waiting so close to water, it was a pleasant sight. He even leaned a few inches over the edge, just in time to watch the Skorupi chase off a few small fish-shaped pokemon. She was growing a little bolder. Probably under the influence of her trainer, much to his approval. He couldn’t wait to twist her into the most beautifully dark soul.

So enamored was he with his thoughts, he didn’t catch the flap of wings until it was too late. Something squawked quite loudly, followed by a heavy form slamming into the boys upper back. His grip slipped, followed by the rest of him. A crisp wall of rushing blue and white gradients rose up too fast for him to even blink. It hit him hard, knocking all the air from his lungs as he sunk below the river waters like a stone. His limbs thrashed, gulping down water with a rare siege of panic. His hand scraped against stone and crimson tainted the blurred surroundings, fresh from his reopened wound. Something soft slammed into the side of his head and the world became a spinning mass of darkness. A distant splash broke the roaring rush around him, and something hard knocked into his stomach. It shoved him down, followed by his head cracking off the river bottom. In an instant, there was only darkness.

He woke quite sharply. Something soft was on his face, a rush of air, and then suddenly he felt sick. Rolling away from something heavy on his chest, he began to wretch, emptying his lungs and stomach of putrid river water. It went on for an expanded length of time, his hands flexing in what felt like grass, only to recoil as something wet glanced the side of his palms. When he was finally done, he quickly rolled away from the horrendous expulsion and collapsed, trying to pull together some blurry images both before him and in his memory. From what he’d gathered, he’d been shoved into the river, but what had happened then?

“Glad to see you’re alright...”

The voice was not his own, and not one he knew. It was enough to make him jerk upwards, flinging out an arm. His hand made contact with flesh, at least as far as the resounding SLAP and sting of his palm said. Speaking of.. He paused to flex his fingers, feeling the rough cotton of bandages around his palm. The crackle of a fire and it’s warmth reached his senses, and a pat-down revealed he was bone dry. How long had he been out? What about Skuu? Terry? He gripped the front of his shirt, stifling panicked breaths.

“Hey, easy there. Easy..”
the strangers voice soothed, despite the assault they’d just received. Hands reached for Lymrik, but the boy slapped them away and recoiled with a hiss. “Don’t touch me!” The other person quickly sat back, sighing. “Okay, okay, no need to freak out...” Lymrik was left in silence to calm his breaths, only to suddenly feel something soft shoved into his hands. “You’re uh.. Teddy. Found him floating around. The only reason I found you actually was that weird bear... Not to mention your Skorupi dragging you along, and Camo making a big fuss.” There was gestures, but Lymrik could only make them out in a vague sense. What was important was he had Terry back, judging by the exhausted twitch it gave in his hands. “Terry is not weird,” Lymrik muttered, coddling it closely. A nudge at his side made him tense, but the familiar clacking of Skuu eased him, causing him to reach out to run his fingers over the Pokemons back. “She hasn’t left your side once this whole time. Nearly didn’t even let me perform CPR.”

The thought of a strangers face that close to his own made Lymrik visibly cringe, revolted. Still, it had saved his life. “Hey now, don’t make that face at me. Would you rather have drowned?” Unable to resist a bit of snark, Lymrik peered over the top of his bears head. “I’m still debating that.” The stranger huffed, leaning uncomfortably close. By the light of the fire (which was starting to make his skin prickle with discomfort) and proximity, Lymrik was now able to make out his savior’s features.

It was probably a man, his skin dark. Possibly tan or something, it was hard to tell. Long, thin locks of a faded blonde color tickled Lymrik’s face with a ginger highlight, held back slightly by a dark colored bandanna. The boy could make out that this man was probably at least a few years older, maybe late teens to early twenties. A single blue eye that reminded him of steel was narrowed at the boy, the other covered by an eyepatch that was probably some sort of fashion accessory. A quick glance over the rest of the young mans attire confirmed that for Lymrik. Between the checkered tie, pirate-like shirt, black vest and other assortments, he looked like.. Well a punk. A strange colorful medal hung around the mans stomach, catching the light and glinting brightly during it’s slow sway.

“Look buddy, I saved your ungrateful butt.” The man leaned back, crossing his arms. “Your loss.” Lymrik tipped his head, occupying himself with the brush of his fingertips over the bear, checking everything was in place. The stranger sighed, running a hand over his face and turning to coax the fire. Lymrik, in response, shuffled further away from the heat of the flames. Seeing the boys discomfort and the way he moved away until he was out of the fires light, the stranger moved around a bit, grabbing at a few things. Suddenly, a blanket was dropped over Lymriks head, surprising him. He was tempted to toss the item away, but the shade it offered was comforting and it wasn’t overly thick, so he allowed it to remain.

A familiar squawk made him tense as he turned towards a brown figure that trotted closer. It stopped by the flames, shaking itself off and causing flecks of water to fly everywhere, including on Lymrik himself. “Sorry about Camo knocking you in by the way.” Lymrik visibly flinched. The cause of this whole misfortune was his rescuers Pokemon? Oh that was rich! Still, he was curious enough to dig out his Pokedex from his bag, which was fortunately close enough to find in the darkness. Seems he’d been using it for a pillow earlier. With a flash of light, he took a glance over at the Pokemon while the stranger patiently watched.

Farfetch’d. This ridiculous looking flightless bird had been the little devil who’d pushed him in. “Camo has a thing for thinking he can fly if he puts his mind to it,” the stranger explained with a lighthearted laugh, ruffling the birds feathers. Camo, in response, gave a grumpy squawk and settled next to him. Lymrik gave an unamused snort. “I hope you don’t expect some sort of reward,” he snapped. The stranger sighed, shaking his head. “A simple thanks would be nice, but how about you just gimme your name? No? Well... I’m Edwin. Nice to meetcha, regarding the circumstances and all that.”

Lymrik frowned deeper, pulling the blanket tightly over his shoulders. “Lymrik,” he offered back simply, if only because he got the sense this man wouldn’t cease driving him nuts if he didn’t. The man, unperturbed by the boys abrasiveness, simply smiled. “Nice to meetcha Lymmy.”

“It’s Lymrik.”
