![]() If someone had said Etoile was merely dreaming, she would have believed them in a heartbeat. There were almost no words (that she knew) to describe the freedom, the empowerment of being out here, trekking the Skytouch Forest clad in a blanket of white snow. Due to the weather conditions, she had chosen a white dress and some knee high boots, while donning a white cloak with a hood over her head. However, seeing the blue sky clear of clouds made her efforts to guard against the cold so very futile, but relief filled her heart. Needless to say, Skytouch was quite the name for Forest, and seeing the morning sun light break on each tree, scattering and being reflected by the snow, everything around seemed to shine in a gentle manner. Each time the sunlight hit her skin felt great, the gentle warmth against the chill of her surroundings. The decision to head out before sunrise was a decision she definitely did not regret. Earlier that day, she and her adoptive father had argued about the best time to set off on her life changing journey. Chisara wanted her to leave in the Spring, when the weather was nice, sunny and not antagonistic. It was strange for her adoptive father to suddenly don the suit of fatherhood, but deep down, she was quite happy to know that he deeply cared for her, outside of a student-teacher relationship. However, the notion of journeying by herself, exploring the world, and getting hold of her own destiny was something that Etoile could not stall any longer. Robin, a male Fletchling and Etoile’s companion, flew ahead of her, flying gracefully while weaving through the gaps between each tree. The sight of Robin’s carefree flying made Etoile smile. Clearly, he was enjoying the freedom as well. The Rising Star had decided that, during their entire journey, Robin would be kept out of his Pokeball. It was a decision based on instinct, one that she trusted very much. There was a sense of challenge in the fact that it would be hard for Etoile to keep Robin from any kind of danger. But on the other hand, surpassing any ordeals in the future would strengthen their bond and trust. “Robin! Don’t stray too far or we’ll get separated!!” Etoile waved to get his attention, and in response, the Fletchling did a somersault in mid-air, as if to wave back. He probably thinks I’m saying hello or something… She thought amusingly. It was very hard to know whether Robin actually understood what she was saying half of the time, but in other cases, he showed quite the intelligence for Pokemon. Etoile hoped to train Robin to the point where they could understand each other without saying anything, and think on the same wavelength. It wasn’t bad that Robin had a rather carefree attitude, but she knew that when things got tough, Robin became a fierce contender. Still, it was somewhat envious. It wasn’t long before Robin settled down to a glide, after flying on full-throttle, swerving from tree to tree, and back.I wonder if I’ll ever be as carefree as Robin is… There was longing in her thoughts, but shook her head off them. There were many things she wanted to try out, like flying for example. In her frenzy to become the first individual to achieve flight, she had actually jumped from the roof off their house to join Robin. Unfortunately, breaking the rules of reality was not without consequences. Etoile had landed on her adoptive father, who had been quite injure, but not enough to warrant a visit to the hospital. From then on, she promised to live a life a of restraint, one devoid of crazy antics such as jumping off roofs and approaching dangerous, wild Pokemon. Etoile could not understand why Father worried so much over trivial things. Sometimes, it felt as if the grip around her collar was too strong. Did he not think she was capable enough? She crossed her arms, still making her way through the woods. The thought that her father did not think she was strong enough to handle things on her own was very frustrating. Even after finding out she was adopted, her father hadn’t changed one bit. When she looked back on things, Chisara had become stricter than ever. “Fletch! Fletchling!” The sound of Fletchling cries alerted Etoile and snapped her out of her rant. However, when she looked up, he was gone from sight. Thinking he’d gotten in some kind of trouble, her head snapped back and forth trying to catch the source of the problem. Anyone who wants to mess with Robin will have to through me first! her inner thoughts roared. But she could still not see where Fletchling was, or what had happened to him. All of a sudden, her view was taken over by a small, gray belly. “Gah! Robin! Where’d you go?” She exclaimed, jumping back a few steps. The Fletchling was hovering quite excitedly as she flapped around her head, trying his best to catch her attention and then swooping out to her right, one wing pointing in that direction. Etoile shook her head quickly to stop her eyes from spinning, and shielded her eyes from the rising sun. Robin didn’t bother to wait and quickly flew into the direction he was pointing. Why did his master have to be so slow? “Well, he sure seems excited…” Etoile couldn’t really see where Robin went, but still made an effort to go the way he went. Whatever it is, I’m sure it’s worth checking it out… Yet again, Robin had disappeared into thin air, which was unlikely since he could neither teleport nor use Camouflage. He scanned the area, but there wasn’t anything interesting for her to see. Etoile couldn’t help but feel a little disappointment and irritation. More importantly, she needed to find where Robin went. “~Rooobiiiiiiiiiiinnnn! Wheeerrreee arrrreee youuu?!!” Her voice resonated within the forest, a short echo travelling quite far before dissipating. There was no one else present in the area, and she could hardly hear any symphony from the woodland creatures that lived in the forest. Apart from her loud voice and the sound of her move crunch the frost beneath her, there was no sight or noise from her dear Fletchling. “Robiiinnnn! Ifff youuu don’t cooommmee ouuut nooowww I’ll ggiiiveee youuuu tooo thheee chiiilddreeen iiin myyy claaa-” “Fletch!Fletchling!” And there he was, up a tree. The cry was weak, but audible. Etoile had to stretch her head and squint her eyes to absorb the full length of the tree where Robin was perched. He seemed to be flailing his wings wildly, as if he wanted her to come up or something. Etoile sighed, and looked down at her boots. A promise was a promise, but Etoile was really curious about what Fletchling had found, and the more she convinced herself to the promise, the more she wanted to know what was hidden up there. Hmmm… what to do? There was no problem in climbing this tree. It was a molehill compared to her previous antics. Well, that was an exaggeration on her part, considering she had been smaller. Obviously, the risk involved was also something that could not be ignored. But if she couldn’t overcome this tree, there was no way she could take on the world all on her own, and more importantly, if Robin could fly all the way down there as a baby, it would be a huge blow Etoile’s pride as his trainer, if she couldn’t achieve the same thing. The Rising star looked up again, but this time with a look of determination in her eyes. “Robiiinnn!!! Waiittt foooorrr meee! I’ll beee uuuppp in a miiinuuttteee!!" And with a deep breath she placed one hand on a hole, one foot on a bump and started climbing up the tree. ![]() FOOTNOTES: Declaration of Pokemon Edits

![]() Etoile was hoping this was all a dream. Things could be worse...She mused, while looking down to what seemed like a pretty high altitude, though with her IQ, it was nigh impossible for her to tell how far she had to go down. She was actually proud of the height she had reached before getting herself into a rather dangerous pinch. A day hadn’t even passed, and she was already in neck deep trouble. If anyone had passed by and offered their help, Etoile would have dismissed them with some terrible excuse like “It’s part of her training” or “I’m playing with my Pokemon”. Etoile let out a long, and heavy sigh. Looking up, her right arm was starting to get numb. She held onto a rather thick branch, where her fingers had, by some miracle, gotten stuck on some tree hole. They had gone from stinging painfully to a tingling numbing sensation, but she could feel her strength waning. Hmph. I haven’t become fat enough not to be able to support my own weight She countered in her head. But how do I get out of here? was what she really wanted to know. Due to the fall, Etoile had lost both her satchel and the cloak that had kept her warm. With only a sleeveless dress to protect her, if she didn’t die and fall, she would die as a frozen corpse hanging by a tree. Death wasn’t really the problem here, though. Why does this happen to me…? It wouldn’t be off the mark to say that she had underestimated the journey ahead. The enthusiasm in the beginning was only brought by the ideal that everything would go fine, because Etoile had a purpose. She had always believed that as long as you kept going and going, never letting up, you’d eventually get to where you wanted. But isn’t that what she was doing? Moving forward? “I really… really HATE THIS FEEEEELING!!!” Her screams fell on deaf ears, even to herself. She gasped deep breaths, trying to alleviate her thought gone dry. Now that she thought about it, due to her excitement, Etoile had forgotten to eat breakfast. Was she truly as incompetent as her father always told her? The Rising Star adjusted her fingers, to let some stretch, while others hung on for her life. Her arm strength was beginning to fail her. Where are you Robin? Her frustrations were only growing over time. Robin was nowhere to be found, and here she was just hanging around. When her bag fell, something else had fallen as well. A Budew follow through as her things scattered on the snow. While Robin had swooped down as she fell, the Budew had gone past the two, and softened the fall by landing on her satchel. Etoile could still remember the green seedling bowing down as if she was in a contest! What she could not forget, however, was how the Budew looked at them innocently once, tilting her head (or body) to one side, took one Pokeball from her bag and then run off as fast as her stubby little feet could manage. The way she run was cute, and remembering it made her smile… but there was no way she condoned stealing! Robin went after the thieving Grass-type, but a long time had passed since then. You’ll excuse Etoile if five minutes is a very long time. Robin had never left her side for this long… “ROBIIINNNN!!! COME BAAAA-” She coughed, the rasp in her voice getting quite stronger. Etoile wanted to yell more, but for once, she thought using her head, and went against it. All her strength was needed just to keep her suspended. Switching hands wasn’t possible. The snow had made the branch rather slippery, and just moving a little, already put her at risk of falling. It was a calculated risk, however, and she had attempted to switch hands a few times before giving up. “What am I going to do…?” The sound of crunching snow alerted Etoile that a person was coming. “Someone? Is… Someone there?” She couldn’t raise her voice, but it was loud enough to attract attention. They’d probably mistake her for some kind of strange Pokemon, but all she wanted was to get down and massage her poor arm. “~Budew!Budew!Bu..dew?” The Budew from earlier was skipping up and down quite happily, juggling the Pokeball in her head, and had come to reap the rewards of dodging and escaping the annoying Fletchling. She couldn’t wait to add the shiny strange orbs to her collection. Incidentally, had been Robin who found her stash of stolen items and as luck would have it, the meddlesome human had fallen short of reaching her stash. Together, she had no chance in taking them on, but separating them had become so easy when she saw the Fletchling rush her way. All in day’s work. Their eyes met and the Budew froze, the Pokeball bouncing off her head. It hurt, but the realization of the fact she had forgotten about the dangling human was mortifying. “Budew!” She exclaimed in shock. “You…” Etoile returned her shock with a glare and a hiss. They stared at each other for quite some time, the cold wind flowing past them. It was Budew who broke their endurance contest, swiftly picking up her the strap of her bag, and struggled to disappear from sight. Ah… she’s so cute. She thought absentmindedly. No, wait the damn Budew was getting away with her things! She could not think so highly of the enemy! Since the bag was too heavy, Budew gave up on the strap and decided to drop it and huffed to herself. “Hey! Be careful with my stuff! If you break anything, I’ll glue you to a pot forever!” Wobbling as fast as she could she took out the unnecessary items from the bag, ignoring Etoile as if she was part of the forest scenery..She took out the Journal and the Pokedex. When the Pokedex hit the ground, it opened and a mechanical voice filled the air. Budew, The Bud Pokemon and Pre-Evolution of Roselia. When it feels the sun's warm touch, it opens its bud to release pollen. It lives alongside clear pools. The Budew jumped up and quickly hid inside the bag, thinking the human girl had other companions. After a few seconds, she took a peek outside and surveyed the area. No one else was coming. But more importantly, the light of the screen from Etoile’s pokedex had her mesmerized. The Budew in front her… was it real? Back when she was but a newborn, all of her friends and family had evolved and moved on from Skytouch forest. Out of her group, she was the only one who refused to evolve, to conform with nature. She found the material things much more interesting. Shiny things made her warmer than the light of sun could ever hope to achieve. Evolution could wait. “Bud!Budew!!” She exclaimed while jumping up and down. She could finally share her collections with someone! Etoile, who had been watching the whole time, felt a sense of pity for the Bud Pokemon. The fact that she could not differentiate between kind and caricature, made her feel somewhat responsible. Etoile made her mind. She would definitely help this Budew regain what she had lost. “Hey! Budew!! Uh, if you want, I can let you have those-” A single, high pitched scream was the last sound Etoile made before the entire world begun spinning faster than she could keep up. Then, everything turned black. ![]() FOOTNOTES: Wild Budew Appeared! Edits made

![]() Etoile gasped, and rose quickly, he sting of cold ice numbing her back and arms. She still couldn’t focus her eyesight, and her thoughts were in disarray. Ugh…. She sustained her head with one hand. What happened…? Suffering from headrush, and probably what felt like a beating, Etoile’s memory was hazy, but things were slowly coming to perspective. Images of the forest’s morning light, the sight of the ground from a very high altitude… and a green blob wobbling about. “Ah!! That’s right... I fell…” She instinctively looked up, but couldn’t tell or distinguish the branch from which she fell from. But she deducted a certain height must have been required to deliver this kind of concussion. Furthermore, she was sitting down on a very soft pillow of snow. Lucky me… I landed on something soft. She thought, waving her fingers through the fluffy ice. But what was I… Etoile scanned the area to get more recollection of what transpired. It was somewhat uncomfortable not knowing the situation, and squinted her eyes to adjust to the light of day. The sun had already achieved some height, and the warmth she got from the sun rays as it touch her legs, relief washed over her mind. She caught a glimpse of her bag, and quickly stood up to rush over… but found her legs had been robbed of their strength. My legs... She had stood up, her balance faltered, and fell down again on the snow. How long was I on the ice? The ice stung her skin, and somehow, it actually felt as if her hands were burning. She stood upright, and rubbed her hands together, while rubbing them. It still stung, but it was now a lingering sensation. She breathed on them continuously, while rubbing her legs. She felt almost nothing from her touch, but continued to rub on until her legs recuperated. The longer she stayed in the ice, the more she would become crippled. “C’mon, legs!! Work!! Don’t fail me now…” “Budbudbudbudbud!!” Etoile’s ear twitched as she picked up a strange noise coming from behind. She continued massaging her legs, this time picking up some pace. Her hands had gone red from all the friction, and thankfully she got some feeling on her feet. The strange noise got louder, but this time she felt the earth shake with tremor. As if it was afraid. “Budbudbudbudbudbudbudbud...” Something is coming… She thought instinctively, and stood up carefully, fighting to get balance. Just then, a small figure jumped out from the bushes, and the instance their eyes met, Etoile felt a strong sense Deja Vu as she gasped. “Ah! It’s you again…” The Budew had jumped up and met her eyes. Etoile saw it’s black pupils widen in shock, but she could tell she was already afraid. Afraid of something. The Rising Star stood up straight and hopped in place to check if her legs were good, and since she wasn’t falling to the ground any longer, it was safe to say her legs had come back. “PANGOROOOOO!!!” The roar was deafening, and even with both of her hands plugged in her ears, the sound was enough to get heart racing. Damn! It’s a wild Pokemon… A Pangoro, big and strong, jumped exactly from where the Budew had arrived, causing the crowd the shake, making the ground shake. Etoile gritted her teeth. And it’s a Pangoro! I could battle it but i wouldn’t stand a chance without Robin… “Budbudbud...DEW!” The Bud Pokemon had jumped away to gain momentum, but in her clumsiness, it fell and rolled all the way just to slam into a tree, where snow fell on top of it. The Budew got up, shaking off snow, but when it turned around, the Pangoro was already on her. This was not the way Budew had imagined her day. It might have been winter, but because Budew had lived long around these woods, it knew exactly where food was most abundant. After she had escaped from the white haired girl, she was hungry and thus went to her usual spot. However, when she saw the Pangoro ravaging what she considered the most important place in her world, she attacked it with Absorb. The Pangoro, after weeks of hunger and cold, had not taken the weak attack kindly and decided to send the Budew to meet it’s maker. Naturally, the Budew ran and ran, until it was now, cornered by the Daunting Pokemon. “Bud…” The Budew quivered in fear, with tears forming in her eyes. She was hoping the Pangoro would let her go after seeing her cute face cry. “Bud… dew?” “PANGOOOO!!!” The Pangoro let out another raging howl and raised his fist backwards, ready to use Arm Thrust. As soon as his fists started glowing, Budew knew it’s fate had been decided. “No!” Etoile shouted, but it was useless. “Budew! Run!” Budew was completely frozen in fear, and had lost her will to fight. Arm Thrust connected with the base of the tree, smashing the ground itself, and repeated the process 3 times. Smoke and dust rose to run away, rising a small cloud of dust and snow. Etoile’s chest was tight and felt painful, her heart beating away faster than she liked. “Pangorooo!!” Etoile’s voice caught the attention of the enraged Pangoro, and the Pokemon glared at the measly human behind him, from the dust cloud. Etoile clenched her fist, and stood valiantly against the Fighting and Dark Pokemon. This Pokemon would regret angering Etoile for sure. ![]() FOOTNOTES: Wild Pangoro Appeared!

![]() The sun was high in the air, the shadows of both Pangoro and Etoile diminishing underneath the afternoon sun. The Skytouch Forest was as quiet as ever, but the tension between the two not only disturbed the serenity of the place, but it seemed as if these two had been left alone to their own devices. Normally, at the level of disturbance they caused, Pokemon within 50 meters would be alerted and scout the area. But it seemed that the creatures of the Forest were all too aware of Pangoro and his ruthlessness, specially when hungry. Behind the panda Pokemon, the fallen bark of the tree left no signs of leaving Budew within an inch of her life. Searching for a glimmer of hope, Etoile’s glare was nearly broken by the tears she was shedding. “PANGORROOOO!! I have no idea why you had to kill Budew, but I won’t let you off easy!” She pointed one hand at the Pokemon, marking him as her target. She did not care whether Robin wasn’t here, she already knew she was too weak to defeat Pangoro on her own. “Pangororororororo!!!” The Daunting Pokemon laughed, quite loudly too. How could such a frail creature dare to oppose him? She would make a good friend, and he admired her guts. The Daunting Pokemon entertained the thought of becoming the girl’s Pokemon, but unfortunately, he was hungry, and the kind of hunger he had changed many things. “Really?!!! A Pokemon just died and you can laugh?” Her voice sound much stronger in the silence, and it stopped Pangoro from laughing. However, her voice was starting to crack from the lack of water. She would need to find a water supply soon if she wanted to keep her voice. The Pangoro became silent, but without wasting a second, it started charging towards Etoile to perform a tackle. She was right, is what the Pangoro thought. He had become hungry again after laughing so much. His feet kicked up a dust cloud of snow, and just like the Budew earlier, Etoile couldn’t move at all. The sight of the Pangoro’s furious charge slowly enveloped her sight, up to the point where she could not see anything but black and white. At the same time, she could feel the ground shake violently as the Pangoro got closer and closer… “Fletch… LINGG!!” Robin’s voice scattered around both Etoile and Pangoro. Right behind Pangoro, who had skidded to a halt, was a little flying bird. Pangoro had been caught off guard, and had to stop the attack to protect his ears from the attack lowering Growl. “Robin… you came!” It was the only thing the Rising Star could manage to say. As if broken from a trance, flopped down on the snow covered ground. “Robin…”She placed a hand on her chest, trying to calm down her pumping heart from going out of control. Beads of sweat trickled down from her forehead and, as they dropped down, melted sow. “Fletch!!” “Pangrooo!!!” The Pangoro screamed in defiance. Although Fletchling was weak, it’s ability to fly out of reach made it hard for Pangoro to attack. More importantly, it’s small frame would be hard to hit.”Pan…” It slowly picked up small chunks of wood and pebbles from the ground. His hand started to glow, but instead of using Arm Thrust normally, it used the extra strength to launch projectiles towards the flying type. “Fletchling! Dodge it!” Etoile called out, standing up from her position. She would definitely bring down this oaf no matter what! At first Robin dodge the flying debris quite clumsily, almost coming in contact with a well-aimed pebble. At the last minute, under Etoile’s instructions, Robin gathered up his wits and flew up, further getting out of Pangoro’s angle. In total, Pangoro’s arm thrust had been used six times! Robin hovered well above the Pangoro, awaiting instructions. “Robin! Good job! Now use Growl once more!” Immediately, it swooped down, releasing waves of energy that tampered with Pangoro’s natural strength. Pangoro had to put shield his ears one more time, gritting its teeth. But bothe Etoile and Robin were not finished yet. “Now’s our chance and use tackle!” By this time Etoile was jumping furiously up and down, throwing her fist into the air after every successful move. Despite trying to calm down her heart, it seemed it would not do for this battle. Robin was quite meters away from Pangoro, just in front of him, a few inches above his head level. First, it flapped once to gain height in a straight line, and then folded its wings to deliver a tackle right from above. The Pangoro might have been weakened slightly, but it still had enough power to deal great damage. It withdrew one fist, his claws growing slightly bigger and harder, and prepared to swing it from Robin’s left side. The Slash would deal a critical hit if it connected. Etoile knew this, which is why she made a move as well. “Robin!! Keep moving and don’t stop no matter what happens!” Robin glared at the Pangoro, putting his faith into his master. They knew each other very well, though Robin knew her better. He knew his master was up to something crazy, but decided to continue on with the tackle, despite seeing the Pangoro’s claw quickly closing in. The Pangoro was wearing her white, now tattered cloak, which had given her this idea. If they were successful, they might both live another day. She jumped unto the Pangoro’s back, and using her own weight, Etoile pulled down on her own cape that was tied around the Pangoro’s neck, causing the Slash move to miss due to imbalance. However, Robin’s tackle connected to his forehead, and caused critical damage. Etoile quickly let go of her cloak and run away to a safe distance from the battlefield. “Great! Now, Fletchling use another Growl whil-” “B-Bud...dew.” A weak voice stopped Etoile from further giving instructions. Out of the rubble behind her, a small bud pushed through the debris, and after a little struggle, Budew erupted from behind the tree bark. Etoile’s serious face erupted into a wide smile. “Y-you’re alive?” Her voice was merely a whisper, incredulous of what she was seeing. It had been clear to her, after the tree bark broke, that the Budew had died from the many Arm Thrusts it had received. “You’re alive!!” “Bud?” The Budew shook its head from any dust particles, though it flinched in sudden pain and nearly fainted again. It was weak in health, and Etoile hurriedly rush over to help her. The Budew felt cold to her skin, and Etoile cradled it in her arms to keep her warm. The Budew gave her one gentle look of gratitude before it went into a deep slumber. “Bud...dew..bud…” “Robin! Look, she’s alive! We need to get her to a Pokemon Center!” Is what she said, but the question remained simply, impossible to answer? How were they going to escape the Pangoro, and get out of this Forest? Robin, chirped in response, but it was very much like her master to leave out the most difficult task to him. The Pangoro recuperated from the attack quicker than expected, and now fully enraged it continuously attacked Fletchling with Comet Punch. Only one blow managed to connect with Fletchling, but it was enough to knock it out of the air. “Ah! ROBIN!!” With Etoile’s quick thinking, she threw another stone at his face. The pebble struck the Pangoro right on it’s nose, after which, the Pangoro let out a howl in pain. The Rising Star didn’t waste any time, grabbed Fletchling as well, and quickly made her move to get away. By the time, Pangoro opened his eyes, his prey was gone. He let out another howl in both anger and frustration. ![]() FOOTNOTES: Battle Mode!!
