Trainer Profile
Character Name: Laurenia Rosa Varaeine Nickname: Laura, though she honestly doesn't care what people call her. Gender: Female Age: 19 Trainer Class: Pokemon Ranger/Explorer
Height: 5'5" Weight: 134 lbs.
Hair and Eyes Laura's hair is completely pitch black, like the midnight sky with no moon or stars to be seen, sometimes looking almost fake because of how unnaturally dark it is, thought it quickly fades to a rich almond brown in the last six inches or so. It reaches to a point just above her waist, is parted a bit to her right side, neatly framing her face, and is uncannily straight. It refuses to curl in any way, shape, or form, no matter how many hours she spends working with it. It's fairly thick, but light and very soft, and she occasionally binds it with a white hairband near the ends to keep it from becoming too much of an obtrusion, though she usually just wears it down.
Laurenia's eyes are quite interesting, having a somewhat rare condition known as central heterochromia. In the center, around the pupil, they are a golden amber color, but fade to a blue-ish grey around the edges, making them look something like miniature solar eclipses and giving them an amazing sense of depth.
Clothing/Accessories: Laura wears a simple white sleeveless V-necked shirt which extends just past her belly button, exposing a few inches of her midriff, and a slightly shorter black zip-up vest which leaves about a few inches of the bottom of her shirt and about an inch of each sleeve visible. She usually wears this vest halfway unzipped for more comfort when travelling, though she will zip it up all the way when appropriate. She wears fairly heavy black shorts which are tied off with elastic material just above her knees, and fold over at the waist to reveal a large utility pocket in the front with many smaller ones scattered throughout, and a duster in the back which extends to her heels. Light black and white boots adorn her feet, durable enough to withstand the wear and tear of a lengthy journey, but light enough so as not to be uncomfortable or unwieldy. When in the wilderness, she dons a pair of black gloves which extend to her elbow, with small, metal disks over each knuckle and padding over the outside of her forearms. She also wears silver teardrop earrings, a simple silver chain with a stylish Mew pendant carved from sapphire and bronze, and a white belt, which is rendered almost completely invisible by her shorts.
General Appearance: Laura stands straight and tall, her stance proud and resilient, but not unkind or self-indulging. Her skin is slightly pale, but not unnaturally so, and her complexion is almost impeccable, though not from any actual direct effort on her part. When in casual contexts, she is always wearing a warm smile, her eyes kind and thoughtful, with her arms folded neatly behind her back. When enraged or determined, however, the amber in her eyes make them seem ablaze, and her smile turns to a single tight line, her stance more aggressive and her arms by her side. Her physique and build are definitely noticeable, being more present than many frail and less prominent female Trainers, though not enough to make her body seem particular masculine or rough. She appears completely feminine, although her presence is prominent and she does not appear frail or weak. Despite this, she is very easy to approach, always appearing very kind and welcoming. In the middle of her back, just beneath her shoulder blades, Laura has a large, full-color tattoo depicting Mew and Arceus circling each other with a stylized Libra symbol in the middle, though it is not visible unless she takes off her vest, which is somewhat rare. She carries an assortment of random items in the various pockets of her shorts and a stylish purple and black single-strapped backpack, some of which are common necessities for travelling and surviving, such as matches, eating utensils, and foodstuffs, while others are completely useless and seemingly pointless items, such as decks of cards, dice, or suspicious amounts of string. She always seems to have the most random things readily available, but is oftentimes lacking in more necessary and logical things, as if she had just rushed about her bedroom picking up random items when she had been packing. The more important Trainer-related supplies, such as her Pokeballs, Pokedex, wallet, map, and the like, are kept in the large front pocket of her shorts, while other things, such as her carving knife and string, are kept in the smaller ones. She keeps items which are needed less commonly, including her Journal, toiletries, and games to occupy her time, in her backpack. She also carries a small netbook, for various purposes such as She doesn't carry and hunting or meat-carving supplies, though, since she is a vegetarian and sticks strictly to berries and various things which can be found within the wild. For this reason, she doesn't usually carry much food with her, gathering her meals from the wilderness around her as she travels.

Personality: Laura is the kind and silent type, always extremely welcoming and accepting, usually getting along with just about anyone without a problem. She doesn't speak her mind unless directly questioned, in which case she will tell it like it is and let you know exactly how she feels, down to the smallest mistake you made, though she is not at all seriously competitive, unless she's simply playing around. She is calm, observant, and calculating, never rushing into anything, keeping her wits about her while she works out the best course of actions to take and how to go about it. However, she is a quick thinker, improvising with what has on hand and being quite creative when it comes to elaborate schemes or simply getting through the day. Despite generally being quiet and reserved, she enjoys being around people and finds herself more comfortable with a friend at her side.
She is also quite mischievous when it comes down to it, being quite sly with words and luring others into her traps for the sake of a good laugh, though she's not really one for actual physical pranks. She likes to twist words and and play around with people for no particular reason, which aggravates many people she meets, but it's all in good fun. She somehow always manages to squirm her way out of others' anger, and is relentless when it comes to making friends and getting others to smile and laugh. She is truly a little girl at heart.
Laurenia is very close to Pokemon, treating them as absolute equals, and believing wholeheartedly that they should live alongside humans peacefully and harmlessly. She absolutely despises seeing others being rude or abusive to Pokemon, and strives to protect Pokemon which are being treated this way. She ensures that Pokemon everywhere get the treatment and the lives that they deserve, even if it means disrespecting authority and her elders in the process. She may be kind and warm to humans, but, in her eyes, the safety and preservation of Pokemon comes first, and it's her duty to make sure of it. This love for Pokemon bloomed inside her in her early childhood, fascinated by the legends told by the village elders and her mother's own work and interest in the creatures.
Despite being kind, generous, and reserved, Laura is not a person you want to enrage. Though she does not anger easily and is not really the vengeful type, if you do manage to make her angry at you or you get her worked up about anything, you might as well throw in the towel from the beginning. When she puts her mind to it and really gets determined to do something, she is unstoppable and ruthless, fierce and fiery and not easily convinced to give up on anything. She is also fiercely loyal and not one to watch her friends get pushed around in any way.
Laura is the kindest young woman you will ever meet, but also the fiercest, and it is never wise to underestimate her and her courage, ferocity, and determination.
History: The Varaeine family have resided in Winterhart for ages, making the small village their home since before anyone can remember, descending directly from the original Sokatarans, though probably not exclusively. They like to believe that they are the most pure Sokatarans in the village, though it's not likely and there's no real way to tell for sure. And as every respectable family residing within Winterhart Village loves t tell stories, so too do the Varaeines. Especially the Varaeines. You can always find one of them sitting about in the town square rattling off some ages-old myth about the war between the Birds and the Beasts, or the history of the founding and growth of Godai as we see it today, or the legendary explorations of Vincent Krolliser, the one who supposedly befriended the mythic Celebi and traveled through time to make things right throughout the past. They are excellent storytellers, as this is a skill passed down from generation to generation, alongside their good looks and their fantastic legends.
Laurenia Rosa Varaeine lived a wholly unremarkable childhood, pretty much the same as any of the other very few children around her age in Winterhart. Her father had left the town and the family before Laura was born, so she never got to meet him, but that didn't bother at all growing up, and it still doesn't. Everyone in Winterhart was like one giant messed up family, and the lines between actual blood families were worn thin and nearly forgotten. Of course, she did miss him, and wished that she had been able to see his face at least once, but it didn't alter her childhood very much. She was raised by her mother and the rest of the village, and was nothing special.
Laura's mother and grandmother happened to be the local Pokemon healers and herbalists, aside from the actual Pokemon Center, usually relying on herbs and other such natural medicines to for their healing needs rather than the processed, exceedingly expensive and suspicious Potions and Ethers which came bottled from PokeMarts. They took excellent care of Pokemon, and interacted with them a lot, and so Laura got to come in contact and interact with plenty of them on a regular basis. Her mother, Cassandra, taught her how to apply herbal medicines, and how to wash their fur or scales or skin or whatever else that might have, and how to feed them when they are ill, and many, many other things which happened to come up along the way. Mother and daughter would spend hours in the house going over the different aspects of different Pokemon, and how to heal them from all kinds of conditions. Cassandra was an excellent healer and a marvelous teacher, taking Laura on as her apprentice of sorts as she progressed through school.
Her mother became Laurenia's inspiration, and she aspired to become a village healer in her stead. The local education system was quite lenient, and Laura often spent school hours with her mother and grandmother in their home, learning more about Pokemon and their traits and how to deal with them, and assisting in the healing of various of the creatures, whether they be pets, unfortunate wild Pokemon, or even those of Trainers who happened to wander through the village from time to time. It wasn't as if she was really wanting in education, after all. She was a very bright girl, and a quick learner, and was learning loads more at home than she ever would at school anyway.
Occasionally, Cassandra and Laura would go trekking through the wilderness, throughout the Laughing Summits, sometimes as far as the Icicle Caverns, though they made sure to stay away from Dracofang Peak as much as possible. They would explore the wilds, finding wild Pokemon and observing them in their habitats, determining if they were living harmonically and whatnot. They grew extremely close, and were almost inseparable, almost like two sisters.
When Laura was fourteen years old, her mother contracted an incurable and fatal disease from an unknown source. The most talented and respected doctors in Godai said that there was nothing they could do, and that she had two months to live. She pushed on, though, and continued her work, determined to teach her daughter everything there was to know and to stand strong for her family and her village.
Fourteen months later, Cassandra passed away, peacefully, in a hospital in the Northern Prefecture. Laurenia was by her side the entire time. With a smile on her face and joy in her eyes, in her last few hours of life, her mother recited some of her favorite Pokemon legends, and she listened willingly, hanging on to every word. Cassandra's favorite legend had always been of Mew and Arceus, the legendary creation duo, and she had passed that on to her daughter. She passed on reciting that very myth.
Unsure of where to go from there and shaken, lost, and confused, Laura managed to get permission from her grandparents and a limited amount of funding, and temporarily moved to the Western Prefecture, home to the Godain State University at Central. She wasn't entirely sure what it was she was going to major in, but it only seemed right that she should continue to learn about what her mother had been teaching her. After much deliberation and a painstaking amount of nightmares, she settled on becoming a Pokemon Ranger, to travel the world and find, help, and protect the Pokemon she came across. She gave up her visions of becoming a simple healer in Winterhart. There were plenty of others who could take her place. She needed to do something else with her knowledge, and she had figured out what it was.
And so she enrolled at GSUC, at the age of sixteen, to become a Ranger. In a remarkable display of forethought, she traveled to Professor Rosewater's laboratory and received a Pokemon to be her training partner throughout her progression towards becoming a Ranger. After much grueling thought and more than a few coin flips, she finally settled on a Squirtle, and named him Rhalion, and they bonded almost instantly.
For three long, grueling, exciting years, she trained and learned and practiced and fought, forging her way onward, knocking aside competition and consuming knowledge like water. She truly was quite bright and adept, and had many perfect qualities of a Pokemon Ranger. It also helped that she had already learned much of what the University taught her from her mother. She trained with Rhalion into the twilight hours, determined for both herself and her Squirtle to become as prominent and as powerful as possible. The trials of becoming a Pokemon Ranger were grueling and ridiculous, but she managed to make it through, and graduated among the top of her class, at the age of nineteen.
Finally, a fully fledged Pokemon Ranger and the proud Trainer of one truly amazing Squirtle, Laurenia returned home to Winterhart. She had kept in contact with her family and friends, of course, and had traveled home to visit several times, but now it was different. She had become a Ranger. She had accomplished the impossible.
And now, not completely knowing what to expect of Godai or herself, Laura is leaving home, for good this time, to make a name for herself, and for her mother. She is honestly not completely sure what she hopes to accomplish along the way, but by Arceus, she'll get there.

Nickname: Rhalion / Rhal Gender: Male Type: Water
Personality Rhalion is quite the opposite of his Trainer, making others question how it is that they get along. He is quick to anger and even quicker to resort to violence to solve a problem, and despises weaker Pokemon, putting himself on a higher tier than most others because he believes that he is stronger and therefore better. He is not one to think before he acts, and goes rushing headlong into fairly idiotic circumstances if Laura is not there to stop him. He can be quite rude and unaccepting, taking quite a long amount of time before he will fully trust and accept another, Pokemon or human, as a friend. Nevertheless, Rhal is fiercely loyal and will put his life on the line for his friends, just like his Trainer, and will not hesitate to do what is right if he believes it truly is the right thing to do. He may not be as friendly and open as his Trainer, but he definitely has the same code of morals and ethics, and the same grade of determination and steadfastness.
