Preview Trainer ProfileCharacter Name: Alexander Caeruleus Nickname: Xander, or Xan (He hates to be called Alex) Gender: Male Age: 16 Trainer Class: Ace Trainer / Pokémon Researcher Height: 5’10” Weight: 167 lbs. Hair Color & Style: Jet-black; spiky Eyes: Dark blue Clothing/Accessories: Xander always seems to be wearing the same basic outfit, albeit with a few small changes. He wears a pair of semi-baggy black jeans with far too many pockets on them, along with a simple plain black T-shirt. On top of this he wears a snow-white knee-length coat with navy blue trim, also with an excessive number of pockets, although mostly on the inside (he likes pockets). He also boasts a pair of durable black boots, a black leather belt with plenty of pouches and slots for PokéBalls, and a simple silver chain around his neck. Finally, instead of the normal backpack, he carries a black leather satchel, complete with all the fancy flaps and clasps that really make a satchel look so cool, even if they all aren’t completely necessary. General Appearance: Xander is quite well built, tall and lean, with quite an adequate musculature from his many escapades and adventures into the local wilds, and his insistent training for his eventual journey. Aside from that, there isn’t much to set him apart from the crowd, besides his spiky black hair, oddly colored dark blue eyes, and a tattoo of a PokéBall on the back of his right hand, about an inch in diameter. Hometown: Herbalife City, Eastern Prefecture Personality To sum it up, Alexander is passionate, dedicated, and stubborn. His passion is studying and trying to understand everything he can about Pokémon and how they interact, and his ultimate ambition is to become an official Pokémon Professor in Godai. And he is adamant on sustaining his hobby and working his hardest to achieve his goals. Or any goal he works towards, for that matter. He’s hard-headed, unrelenting, and oftentimes quite aggravating because of it. Also, he can sometimes be quite the “white knight”. Or, try to be. He can’t stand to see anyone being seriously hurt or abused, people and Pokémon alike. Often, he’ll throw himself into the fray for some sort of cause or another, and get himself and others in trouble because of it. He’s been known to have little sense of danger or self-preservation, which gets him in more trouble than any one person should logically be capable of. History Alexander doesn’t tell almost anyone about the majority of his life. Or any of it, really. He would prefer that no one saw that, and tries to put it behind himself. And with quite a bit of success. He’s pretty much moved on now, managing to forget most of his past and live his life as it is now. But he still remembers it well.
Xander was actually born Alexander Rylum, to Melody and Patrick Rylum, and raised in the Rylum Estate, a rather large villa located in Tempest Valley. It sat perched on a hillside, overlooking beautiful and expansive grounds, complete with gardens and fountains and other things rich people bought when they didn’t know what else to spend their money on. It was very peaceful, and quiet, living in solitude in the valley, where no one but Pokémon Trainers ever ventured, and with not a single other residence within reasonable distance. They would go into town fairly often, to gather what they needed and to interact with other people. Xander took lessons online to keep up his education, and took a great interest in the ways of Pokémon, thanks to his mother. The creatures were all over the Estate, either kept there as pets or to help around the house or as his mother’s personal Pokémon for when she had field work, or were wild, and had been attracted by the gardens and flowers and the smell of fresh food.
His mother was a kind and gentle soul, always taking care of far more than she could handle, and treating her family well. She had been a professional Pokémon Researcher, and Alexander’s inspiration to become one himself. His father was a decent man, who did what he could to sustain them, and worked at a potion manufacturer in Herbalife, and so was not able to be at home much.
And then, Alexander’s life turned into one big cliché.
When Xander was ten years old, his mother took a research trip to Dracofang Peak, because there had been reported sightings of some extremely elusive Pokémon or another. And she didn't come back. Everyone said she had most likely been overwhelmed in an attack from wild Pokémon. Xan was devastated by it, and wouldn’t accept what had happened to her. He blamed it on his father, on her career, on her stupid Pokémon who couldn’t protect her adequately. He blamed himself, for letting her go, or for not being there, or for whatever ridiculous reason he could come up with.
But Alexander’s father fared even worse. He broke, and became a completely different person. He stopped going to work, living on the fortune they had built up over the years. He became more cold and cruel, and had all the Pokémon removed from his property, blaming them for the fate of his wife, as well as simply being angry at whatever was in reach for no particular reason. He didn’t go on drunken rampages or anything, but he changed for the worse. He would shout at Xander for not doing what he was told to do (which he always did), or for being in the way (which he never was), or for costing his father a fortune (which he never actually did).
Finally, though, the night came when everything took a turn for the worst. Or the best, depending on your view point. Xander was eleven. His father snapped again, and started storming around the house, smashing whatever got in the way and throwing furniture through windows, yelling about his wife and “those dim-witted monsters”, hardly caring what would happen to his home or what little was left of his family. And so, finally, Alexander took that as his cue to take his leave.
He made it through the Skytouch Forest without much ado, thanks to the path that his parents had had cleared, big enough for their car, to make their way to the city and back. He arrived in Herbalife City, and sought out his aunt and uncle, Anne and Joseph. They had lived in Herbalife their entire lives, and had a lifestyle very different from his own. They had never had the fortune of Rylums. They hadn't had the opportunities and connections and such, but they held their own, earning enough to keep them afloat in the city. It wasn't much, but it was good enough for them, especially since that's how they had lived for both of their lives. Anne and Joseph were married, and not actually directly related to Xander's parents, their surnames being Caeruleus, instead of Rylum.
Aunt Anne and Uncle Joseph took Xan in with open arms, having had no idea how his father had been acting since Melody Rylum's disappearance. So they continued to raise him, and he didn't mind the drastic difference in lifestyle. He'd always felt a bit cramped and awkward in the Estate. It just didn't feel right somehow. So he worked and studied in Herbalife, and attended an actual public school for the first time. He made decent grades on most subjects, though mostly in the sciences, especially the ones relating to studies of Pokémon. On the rest, he made about average for his grade.
Alexander had vowed to carry on with his mother's legacy, despite what had befallen her. He studied day after day, reading and studying and filling every spare gap of his time working towards his ultimate goal in some way. He volunteered at the local PokéMarts and PokéCenters, mostly just carrying things from here to there or restocking shelves or cleaning. It was boring and oftentimes demeaning, admittedly, but it paid, and that's what mattered. With this money, he helped pay for his and his new family's living expenses as much as possible. And with what was left, he made himself his own little personal library in his tiny bedroom on the second floor of their meager apartment. Two floor-to-ceiling bookshelves, stocked to the brim with what he could scavenge from local libraries and bookshops, or from travelers passing through who happened to carry some books from distant cities. He blasted through them. Once, twice, however many times he needed to absorb the information.
Often, he would run off into the nearby woods or walk to more barren parts of the city where wild Pokémon were more likely to be running about, and he would study them. Sketch them, note their behaviors, record any strange sightings, and such. Oftentimes, he would run after them or silently sneak after them under cover of darkness, in order to observe them more and under different conditions. This habit got him thrown into many sticky situations, but he kept persisting, time after time, in the name of science. It also worked wonders for his physique.
And so now, armed with his knowledge and intermediate experience with wild Pokémon, he plans to travel Godai as a Pokémon Trainer. What better way to study the ways of Pokémon than to travel in their midst, befriend them, and live among them? Alongside his yet to be discovered partner, he will traverse the mystical world and work towards his ultimate goal. And at this rate, next to nothing will be able to stop him.
