I thought it would be cool to start a topic where people can just talk about what pokemon game they're into right now. How far have you gotten? What does your team look like? What was your toughest challenge so far? What sort of surprises have you seen? I got the idea since I started playing X today and I've wanted to talk to other players about their experiences in the game. However, I didn't want to limit the topic to the new games. My current game is X, and I chose fennekin as my starter. I use a Nuzlocke style of self-imposed rules to make my games harder. As a result I have a rather...interesting team line up. I've gotten one badge so far and only suffered one casualty (RIP March the Bunnelby). My team consists of a Braixen, a Pidgey, a Fletchling, a Gulpin, a Bibarel, and an Ivysaur. On the one hand, I'm not very happy with my team right now because I see all these really cool pokemon on routes, but only after I see the unimpressive normal type I had to catch. But I might be wrong. I tried the online matchup today and just won my first online battle ever against a guy I was pretty sure was stronger than me (His Braixen had psybeam, I still only had my Fennekin). It was all thanks to Bibarel using rollout. My opponent's team was very heavy on the fire and flying types so Doofy the Bibarel took them all out almost by himself. Hurray Doofy! You don't suck as much as I expected! |

Yeah Gulpin! All hail the power of the stomach! God I miss nuzlocke modes, but I can only do them on games I've played "collector" on already so I can fully understand the game before I go nuzlocking. I'm too empathetic to handle the stress of blind nuzlocke, I'd die. Kudos~ |

I am about to challenge the Lumiose Gym and I have Blaziken, Greninja, Charizard, Lapras, Tyrunt, and Lucario. I agree with John though; I would never Nuzlocke a game that I haven't played before, though I've never done it before and would like to try it... maybe I'd do it after beating the Elite Four and get bored... I'd probably use a RNG though just to spice things up. Like, roll a number between one and ten and if it's this number I catch the pokemon, If it's in this range I knock it out, and if it's in this range I run. That sort of thing. |

The beautiful thing about a blind nuzlocke is that you can only ever do it once with a game. I figure when I lose or win I can restart and do the collecting thing. I'm very OCD when I go into collecting mode. I must catch every pokemon. I must raise all of them. Thus, it takes me forever to finish a game. A nuzlocke is quicker to me, but mine is still going slower than everyone else's by the look of it. I've still only got one badge, but I spent a lot of today petting my pokes and making them love me. I did a blind run with White, which ended with me nearly crying after a fraxure wiped out my whole team before the last gym. My White 2 run is doing better, but it's on hold until the novelty of X wears off. Congrats on the gym badges everyone. I always wonder how other people progress so quickly, but I find I'm something of a grind-a-holic. I'm jealous of your team, Dancin. Maybe I'll pick Froakie next time around. Or Chespin, cause he was pretty cute. |

I haven't been playing because I work but my last save point was after the defeat of the second gym, and my team was Braizen, Fletchinder, Wartortle, Skiddo, and Amaura. |

I've finally caught something to replace Bibarel (because I still don't like him even if he has grown into an unexpected buck-toothed ball of awesome). It was a luvdisc, and I was pretty happy. I've never used one, but it was really cute and that's more than good enough for me. It died after I trained it up a couple levels. Stupid wild Zangoose and it's pursuit! It gets me every time! But now I have this hippopotas, another one that I've never used before. Honestly, I'm impressed by it. It's actually pretty solid, even if it looks just as derpy as Bibarel in its own way. Oh, and another testament to the awesomeness of Bibarel: Doofy rolled out all over this trainer's mega Charizard and some other pokemon I can't remember. He took them down in one hit. It was the only two of her pokemon we took down during this particular online battle. She otherwise thrashed all of mine with this ice type monstrosity. Rock on Doofy. Rock on. Kevin, why only 4 pokemon? Where's your other two? |

I'm playing X with a self-imposed level cap of sorts to make the game harder. No pokemon in my party can gain more than five levels in between gyms. However, if wild and trainer pokemon start to approach or overtake my level cap, I raise it by another 5. When the level cap is reached, I have to switch it with a Pokemon in my box. I must capture one every Pokemon I see, and do my best to collect the ones I cannot get through normal means. I must also have two Pokemon in the daycare and must remove them from the daycare when they get near or surpass the current level cap. Right now I'm nearing the 2nd gym, after only about 70 hours of gameplay (wtf?) And, honestly, I'm loving it. My current level cap is 25 to combat the surprisingly lvl 20+ pokemon I've encountered. I have 155 Pokemon in my Pokedex, including several that cannot be found in the region thank to copious wonder trading of Pokemon I've decided I didn't want once they evolved. I'd estimate the number of Pokemon I've spent time training to about 30 or more. I chose Froakie and Charmander at the beginning, but have since acquired Chespin, Fennekin (Magician ability), Squirtle, and Bulbasaur. I'm really starting to love Fennekin the most out of the six, although Froakie is still boss. Raising this many Pokemon has opened my eyes to how badass some of the ones I have ignored in the past are. Huge Power Azumarill is fucking boss, Aerodactyl is a beast, too. I love coming up with different strategies and super training regimens to make each one the best it can be. You'd think a lot of grinding was required, but, honestly, I've done exactly 0 intentional grinding that wasn't related to some other goal (getting money, finding wild Pokemon, ect.) EXP share makes it possible to raise a shit ton of Pokemon if you're instituting a level-cap. And the fact that many of my Pokemon are trades makes training even faster. Some of my trades have funny nicknames and/or nicknames in languages I can't understand. For instance, I am the proud owner of a powerful Vaporeon (from a level 1 evee) named...John McCain. lol. Some of my favorite acquisitions include a special attack-natured Goomy with hidden ability Gooey, several Evees (most of which have evolved, however, missing a thunderstone and the locations required for glaceon and leafeon), Omanite, Tyrunt, Aerodactyl, and Amura, my mighty Azumarill (all fear her water-rabbittness!) my collection of kalos and kanto starters, and my massively powerful attack-natured Gyarados with Moxie ability. I haven't done many online battles, though. The two I did do were very early (before I got into serious collecting and raising) and I lost, but not before taking out a few of there fully-evolved Pokemon with my well-raised basic staged kiddies. Even though I lost, I'm sure I threw my opponents for a loop or two. I would like to engage in more online battles, but I'm having trouble finding opponents. Hopefully that will change. |
