Worlds Qualifier - Location

May 30, 2009

Note: The website has now removed part of this. The Circus Space, Coronet Street, N1 6H has been removed (along with the actual venues for the other European tournaments). However, the website still states that the European tournament is in London. Although, the venue could still change again.

Note: European tournaments have been confirmed to use copies of Pokémon Diamond and Pokémon Pearl versions only. Pokémon Platinum version is apparently not allowed (though it doesn't say anything about not allowing traded back Tutor Move Pokémon).

Rules - http://origin.pokemonvgc.com/en/rules/rrg.html

Battle Rules:

Each match is played using the Pokémon Link Club Colosseum, found on the top floor of the Pokémon Center in Pokémon™ Platinum Version (Diamond and Pearl versions for European tournaments). The tournament will use the Double Cup rules set, with some additional restrictions.

- Each match will use the 2-on-2 format.
- Each Pokémon on a player’s team must be Level 50 or lower. The Pokémon Link Club Colosseum does not have an auto-level feature, so Pokémon that are Level 51 or higher cannot be adjusted down to Level 50, and are ineligible for this competition.
- A player’s team may not contain two of the same Pokémon.
- Each Pokémon on a player’s team may use held items, though no 2 Pokémon on a team may hold the same item. Allowed items include held items from Pokémon™ Platinum Version, and earlier video games, including Berries 1–61. The Soul Dew item may not be used.
- Players may not enter two Pokémon with the same nickname.
- Players may not enter a Pokémon nicknamed with the name of another Pokémon character (for example, a Lucario nicknamed “Spiritomb”).
- Players found to have inappropriate/offensive Trainer names or Pokémon nicknames, as determined by the event staff, will be disqualified from the event.

Banned Pokémon

Quote:

Players may use Pokémon found in the Pokémon™ Platinum Version National Pokédex, between 001 and 492, including those Pokémon imported from earlier video games, with the exception of those Pokémon listed below.

The following Pokémon are ineligible for use in the tournament:

#149 - Non-Toys 'R' Us Dragonite
#150 - Mewtwo
#151 - Mew
#248 - Tyranitar
#249 - Lugia
#250 - Ho-oh
#251 - Celebi
#382 - Kyogre
#383 - Groudon
#384 - Rayquaza
#385 - Jirachi
#386 - Deoxys (All Formes)
#479 - Rotom (All Formes)
#483 - Dialga
#484 - Palkia
#487 - Giratina (All Formes)
#489 - Phione
#490 - Manaphy
#491 - Darkrai
#492 - Shaymin (All Formes)
#493 - Arceus (All Types)

Note: There was an level 50 Event Dragonite distributed in America at Toys 'R' Us Stores, this is how Dragonite is eligible; any other Dragonite is not allowed seeing as it can only be obtained at level 55. Heatran is level 50 in Pokémon Platinum, but any Diamond or Pearl Heatran are not allowed due to their capture level being level 70. Regigigas is allowed as it's level 1 in Pokémon Platinum, as compared to level 70 in Diamond and Pearl. You cannot obtain a Tyranitar at level 50 so unfortunately it's banned. I have no idea why Rotom is banned (unless Pokémon Battle Revolution can't support the altnernate formes or it's banned from the Battle Frontier in Platinum version), but everything else is simply taken from the in-game Battle Tower ban list.

The people watching that match live were annoying. Everytime ANYTHING happened they went OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH.

Danni sure turned that around though.

Also Chris they may have been relying on the flinch factor... for no reason whatsoever.

I want to play a game.

I found some more of Danni's matches on Youtube.

His Marowak had Bonemerang instead of Earthquake, which explains why he didn't use Earthquake.. Through damage calcs we're also pretty sure Marowak did have the Thick Club item.

Bronzong did have Trick Room, and running along the theme of his team I'd bet on Rock Slide being the final move. It also held the Occa Berry item.

Hippowdon held the Yache Berry item and had Ice Fang as an attack; I didn't see the others but I've got to expect the likes of Curse and/or Slack Off to be there. Crunch is unlikely as he kept using Ice Fang against the likes of Gengar.

I think Shuckle had Leftovers in one of the videos, but he may have changed the item around between matches at some point as you're allowed to do that. It also had Rock Slide and Gyro Ball.

He was very lucky to win that tournament, all of his opponent's misplayed and got a little unlucky at certain points.

Semi-Final
Last 16 - Round 4
