OU Team in Desperate Need of Advice

I thought this team was good on paper, but when using it I've found out it isn't really. I don't know who to replace and what to replace it with, so in short, I need help with this team.

It's based around Porygon2 and Magnezone, with the other Pokemon in the team trying to cover their weaknesses (e.g. 2 Flying types to cover Magnezone's x4 Ground weakness and x2 Fighting weakness and Starmie to cover it's x2 Fire and Fighting weakness)

Posted Image
Zapdos @ Leftovers
Pressure
252 HP/ 252 Sp. Def / 4 Sp. At
Calm
Thunder Wave
Roost
Thunderbolt
Heat Wave

It’s my lead seen as it can take a hit form about anything and survive. Thunder Wave cripples Pokemon like Gengar so they’re easier to take down. Only just put Heat Wave on as I was unable to hit ground types so this helps, as well as dealing massive damage to Scizor/Forretress. I had Light Screen in it’s place before, which was a really good move, but I was unable to hit certain Pokemon (without Heat Wave) so it had to go.

Posted Image
Magnezone @ Leftovers
Magnet Pull
172 HP / 252 SpA / 84 Spe
Modest
Flash Cannon
Thunderbolt
Substitute
Magnet Rise

Right I know I’m going to be moaned at for having Flash Cannon instead of Hidden Power, but I couldn’t be bothered to breed for a good one anymore so I got this Hidden Power which I thought would be great against the Rotom Appliances. This was before learning that they aren’t allowed on Wi-Fi (fail). So Flash Cannon is to hit Tyranitar and other Steel weak Pokemon and it was the best replacement move really. Anyway Magnezone 95% of the time gets me a kill (as well as being awesome), so I’d like to keep him in my team.

Posted Image
Gyarados @ Lum Berry
Intimidate
252 At / 252 Spd / 4 HP
Adamant
Ice Fang
Taunt
Waterfall
Dragon Dance

Gyarados is really powerful and really help against fighting types who counter Porygon2 and Magnezone such as Machamp and Heracross (due to intimidate and fighting resistance). That's it's main purpose really. Taunt is normally useful although more coverage with Eq/Stone Edge might be better seen as it's EVs are for sweeping, but I don’t really know.

Porygon2 @ Leftovers
Trace
252 HP / 216 Def / 40 SpA
Bold
Ice Beam
Thunderbolt
Recover
Toxic

Such a good Pokemon for countering common OU threats such as Heatran, Salamence and Gyarados; just why is he not OU? Anyway a brilliant Pokemon and can take a hit from the vast majority of attacks and survive (but not fighting types). Toxic is there to be annoying and wear down Bulky Pokemon who would other wise be more annoying (e.g. Swampert) and I’ve already got Thunder Wave on Zapdos so I don’t need it again.

Posted Image
Scizor @ Life Orb
Technician
32 HP / 252 Atk / 224 Spd
Adamant
Swords Dance
X-Scissor
Bullet Punch
Superpower

Really threatening, especially after a Swords Dance. I’ve found out I can’t switch in on as much as I thought it could, but it’s still very powerful. I didn't really know what to put in here but thought Scizor was best due to Bullet Punch killing Gengar (once it's weakened/after a Swords Dance).

Posted Image
Starmie @ Expert Belt
Natural Cure
136 HP / 156 Def / 216 Spd (I think so anyway)
Timid
Rapid Spin
Recover
Surf
Thunderbolt

I can’t think of another item to put on it as I’m out of Leftovers. Has a Fighting/Fire resist which helps Magnezone and Scizor especially. Really need a Rapid Spinner to get rid of those Rocks because I have Gyarados and Zapdos (but I usually forget about them :-/ ). Starmie also helps against Donphan and other similar Pokemon, but normally doesn’t end up doing too much.

Problems:
No Pokemon to set up Stealth Rock
No Hazer (is one really needed though?)

Jirachi – this is a problem. I have no way of dealing with it as Magnezone always gets Fire Punched
Gengar – Once Zapdos and Scizor are down my whole team gets killed by it and it is very annoying in general
Swampert - Again I have no real counter so it presents a problem
Heracross - Again, another potential problem as it can 1HKO all my team (although not in one session if it is choiced and it depends whether it is scarfed or banded)

Other thoughts
I’d like to have Light Screen/Reflect in there somewhere, but it’s not essential.
I'd also like a Sleep Talker as I'm seeing Hypnosis a lot.
Opponents using Trick is really annoying and I don't really know how to counter it.
This is a team for Wi-Fi so it would be best if I didn't have anyone like Latias or Celebi on it as good ones are really hard to obtain.

Thanks for looking and help please!

Okay first things first, 4 of your pokemon have electric attacks... One of which has 2. THis just invites pokemon like electivire in. Once electivire gets his speed boost from one of your pokemon he is set. Thunderpunch OHKOs Gyrados and stamie. Earthquake OHKOs Magnezone. Cross chop will take a big chunk out of Porygon-2. Depeding on his final moveslot he can potentially OHKO scizor (fire punch) and seriously hurt zapdos (ice punch).

So yeah, Electivire hurts bad...

Okay on to the pokemon =D

Bulky Zapdos isn't the greatest lead ever... You should try this instead, its very effective.

Zapdos @ Choice Scarf
Modest
EVs: 252 Sp.atk 252 Speed 6 HP
Thunder Bolt
Heat Wave
Hidden Power Grass
U-turn

This can be a great counter to some of the current metagame's most common leads. Swampert probably the most common is OHKO'd by Hidden Power. Suicide Infernape can either set up Stealth Rocks and die, or fail to OHKO and die. Azelf is in the same boat unless it explodes first turn, but that wouldn't be too common. Heat Wave would be able to take a decent chunk metagross aswell. However if the matchup isn't in your favour, just U-Turn outta there.

Okay on to magnezone, so this looks like the basic steel trapper set, unfortunatly most steel types in this gen are faster than magenzone like lucario and metagross. Scizor is big problem this gen and the non choice band versions would outspeed you 84 Speed EVs magnezone and OHKO with superpower. To get rid of this problem try this set...

Magnezone @ Choice Scarf
Naive
EVs: 252 Sp.Atk 252 Speed 6 HP
Thunderbolt
Hidden Power Fire
Flash Cannon
Explosion

This set means you can trap and kill Scizor and Lucario as you resist lucario's priority move, this will also KO Metagross if it is weakend enough before hand, Skarmory will also think twice about switching in unless it has the random shed shell.

Now for Gyrados...
You are running a bulkydos moveset but with Offensice EVs, this doesn't really work tbh. Getting rid of taunt and Ice fang and putting in Earthquake and Stone Edge/Bounce in their place would make this a lot more threathening. Lum Berry can be replaced by Life Orb meaning you'll be dealing massive damage to anyhting that comes in, celebi is the only really common pokemon that can resist this set, but luckily your scizor can counter this.

Scizor can be much more immediatly threathening with a choice band and hey its what all the cool kids are using =p This means it doesn't need to set up a Swords dance wasting a turn when a counter will usually be switched in.

Scizor @ Choice Band
Technician
252 Atk 244 HP 8 Speed
Bullet Punch
U-turn
Super Power
Pursuit

Once scizor is brought in most people will siwtch to their counter, Skarmory is quite common, you can then u-turn dealing decent damage with the choice band, this means you can then bring in your own pokemon to deal with it, such as your trapper magenezone and hey presto thier scizor counter is gone. Pursuit is useful against Latias and Celebi getting a OHKO on both if the switch out as they usually would fearing a x2 and x4 Super Effective U-turn respectivily, even if they don't switch out their is not much they can do to you unless they have HP fire, and pursuit will still do decent damage aas it gets the technician boost.

Porygon-z is grand, nothing needed to be done there.

IMO Starmie has to go, its the weak link of the team as it offers little with its moveset apart from rapid spin which isn't all that necessary. As gyrados shouldn't be switching in too much anyway.

The current metagame is all about surprise in my opinion, as every usually expects one moveset on a pokemon. I like this little baby.

Machamp @ leftovers
Adamant
EVs: 248 HP 252 Atk 8 Speed
Dynamic Punch
Stone Edge
Payback
Substitute

Now usually when you bring in a machamp, everyones first idea is to switch to a ghost to avoid the annoying dynamic punch confusion, so as they do this you use substitute, when the ghost is brought in, you dynamic punch for the OHKO usually as you will normaly be slower. Dusknoir will not be OHKO'd as its slower than you, but you can stall him out as he cannot Will o Wisp you through the sub and also cannot use pain split, if his only attacking move is shadow sneak payback will be slower and thus have 100 Base Power. Stone Edge hits other gyardos while they are using bounce which is hilarious, and machamp is pretty damn bulky.

Hope this helped =D
Diamond FC: 2964 5431 9972 - Plat FC: Can't remember atm D=

Yeah, it's definately helped thanks :D

I was thinking about Machamp as it threatens Blissey and other Normal types (as well as others) who I don't like. I like the set on that that you've suggested, especially as it has Substitute which is a great move. I'll also definately get rid of Taunt and Ice Fang on Gyarados and really, really like the idea of U-Turn on Scizor to Magnezone. I'll go try this team on Shoddy at some point and alter my in-game team as well.

Thanks for replying :)

OK, you said you wanted an SR user and some way to set up Light Screen/Reflect. A Bronzong Lead could help this:

Bronzong @ Leftovers
Impish Nature / Levitate
252 HP / 188 Def / 72 SpDef
-Stealth Rock
-Reflect / Light Screen
-Earthquake
-Explosion

Setting up Reflect provides added bulk to some of your physically weaker Sweepers. It also provides a 4 turn 'safety-zone' for Gyarados to set up Dragon Dance without a lower chance of being KO'd. On LeadZong, you could put the ability 'Fireproof' on, because people would never use EQ on a Bronzong because it widely known to carry the Levitate trait. Just an idea.

I second the SubChamp put forward by Wilfire as well.
