Thank you for taking the time to visit us! Prepare for Trouble is a Team Rocket themed play-by-post RPG.

We are attempting to re-establish Team Rocket as a global power and doing so by creating various new programs and enlisting new Rocket Operatives. Currently our influence is limited; however, after mining for the PokéKrystals needed to power the PokéTransport System, we will be able to extend our reach. World domination is nearer than you think. It will not be easy, but if you are reading this I am sure you are already up for the challenge.

Some of our many features:
  • Battles are played out anime style.
  • There is no word minimum to play.
  • The most current PokéDex from the video games is used for attack and leveling information. (Currently:
  • Pokémon Black 2/White 2)
  • After becoming a Team Rocket Grunt, there are opportunities to start different career paths (Rocket Scientist, Rocket Brigade, Advocate, Special Ops, and Executive).
  • Don’t want to be a human? Then be a Pokémon! Feel free to submit up to 3 different Human Operative and 3 PokéOperative applications for you to role-play!
  • Enjoy a variety of unique promotions and events, such as the occasional Pokémon swarm!
  • Create your very own missions!
  • New locations and missions are always being added!

[Closed] PokeOperatives; gobs of questions

As of my typing this, there's no information up on these guys other than their application in the Quickstart guide, so I have plenty of questions about how they function!

First of all, what are the restrictions on species? I assume the number of available pokemon is broader than what's listed for starters.

Is the banner image for the Fun at the Beach skin foreshadowing the kinds of differences one might find between normal pokemon and PokeOperatives? Are small changes to color and markings expected or encouraged? (I actually don't care about this one too much, but I just noticed the sprite edits up there and they sparked my curiosity.)

How are pokemon chosen to be PokeOperatives? Is there a common narrative between them?

Quote:

Zephyr: As for IC basics, PokeOperatives are capable of speaking and interacting with human operatives. Team Rocket has studied the speech abilities of Meowth (the talking one we all know and love of course) and determined how to allow any Pokemon to speak.

Does this imply they are taught to speak or are they gifted with the ability through some other means?

No one needs to answer these all at once. I haven't seen a character option like this before, so I'm intensely curious!

First: Yes, the available species are much broader. The restrictions for your first PokéOperative are as follows:

  • Must be the most basic stage in its evolution line (For example, if you want to be a Pokémon from the Pikachu line, you must start as a Pichu).
  • Your first PokéOperative must be a Pokémon capable of evolution (For example, you cannot be Tauros).
  • Your first PokéOperative must be from the first two generations (Johto and Kanto native).
  • Your first PokéOperative may not be shiny.
More privileges for other PokéOperatives come as you progress with your initial character.

Second: The banner sprites are not explicitly PokéOperatives and no operative will start out looking that way. However, it would be possible for a Squirtle PokéOperative to eventually don that look if it were so inclined (the details for these sprites are to be revealed later).

In general, most any minor aesthetic uniqueness is acceptable. Scarring, unique markings, and some other characteristics are fine. Spiky-eared Pichu is a good example of an acceptable physical change. Just remember, your first PokéOperative cannot be shiny and must have a normal color scheme.

Third: This is completely up to your discretion in the biography section. A Pokémon may decide to join Team Rocket from the wild, may have have been selected from a human operative, or something else. If selected from a human operative, a little information about that human and the relationship your PokéOperative had/maintains with them would be good.

Fourth: Team Rocket has basically developed a device that makes it much easier for Pokémon to learn human speech. But again, this can be somewhat up to your discretion. Your PokéOperative will be able to speak from the start of you RP. If you want a detailed backstory in which they struggled greatly with the learning process, go for it. It is also acceptable for your Pokémon to only speak in rather direct and abrupt or quirky ways. Just remain consistent with whatever speech pattern you develop for them.

Let me know if you want further clarification on anything!

As far as this goes: what about certain first and second generation pokemon that received pre-evolutions in later generations, such as chansey, marill, sudowoodo, mr. mime, etc?

Technically, in the Pikachu line, Pikachu would be the basic sstage amd Pichu would be the baby. Technically.

Since there are still a wide range of options aside from Pokémon in those categories, they are not options for the first PokéOperative you create. However, they would be available for subsequent PokéOperative characters once certain criteria are met.

I figure since we have an application up and a place for the missions, they're essentially ready to go. But no, we haven't made a formal announcement.
