NORMAN HEWSON sadly passed away a fewweeks ago after battling a long illness. He will be remembered by the older players in the league having last played for the libs in 2003. At PRESTWICH CONS he played over 20 years winning over 17 snooker league titles 46 break prizes and the BUTTERWORTH trophy many times D.D will be able to say how many. A prolific player led prestwich cons to many years of success. Even this summer his current team SWINTON CONS won the STANLEY BELL lancashire snooker competition . Norman was too ill for the final which they won 3 nil anyway.. GOOD LUCK NORMAN quality were all glad to have been part of

I echo these sentiments Dave!
I had many a good game in league and comps against him as I'm sure many others did. So I do have plenty memories and I think I am one of the very few he bought a drink after winning. The ones who played him will know what I mean.
Cheers Norman!!

I remember facing him in the second Butterworth comp that I entered when I played for the Legion. He played well enough without ever looking as awesome as he could. I think calling it quits at four snookers needed on the colours inspired him to buy me a drink, something that Jim Fallon remarked on after Norman left the club, so, yes, Gary, it was probably a rarity.

A sad loss of one of the league's legends.

truly a gifted man he must of been awesome years ago. i had the pleasure
of being his captain at the libs. i never beat norman at snooker his safety play was too much for me. i first met norman in the butterworth trophy at the libs. i had never heard of him nor him me. first game i won easy and then it began. lesson one dont take people for granted. he came at me with every type of safety shot he could play to level the game. so thinging i could outpot him i tried but failed. with his safety and potting he finished me off. afterwards he told me that it had been one of the best games he had been in for a long time and it had taken it out of him. and he bought me a pint.with in the the next couple of hours he had a heart attack!!!!!! and in hospital for a long time. he came back and played at the libs for a season then played at swinton cons he will be missed.

no other player past or present will ever get near his record in the butterworth trophy

i would like to bet that he is playing paul hunter on that great snooker table in the sky right now for a pint!!!!!

so long norman :D

If i remember correctly and Hurricane will back me up on this.. I played for Prestwich Cons for about 8 or 9 years and Norman played in one of my final seasons there, and i always remembered a gold coloured waistcoat he used to wear, he definately stood out. In my first season at the carlton i played Norman and beat him at Billiards and everyone was shocked... no one else more than I.. He was a really nice bloke and a fantastic player.

He probably is playing on a snooker table in the sky as someone remarked, hope he got rid of that bloody waistcoat tho.. God Bless

You may want to discuss trophies at the next meeting with Mr Darlington.
We only received one out of the four team trophies.
