Well students, this year will function quite differently to what you're used to. Instead of being taught a lesson, you will be set tasks centred around everything you've learned in these lessons that I expect you to complete with your best effort! You may choose to do the tasks at intervals through the year or you may submit the work all in one go; they can be done in any order too. One of the benefits of being NEWT level is we trust you with a little more responsibility and freedom. Good luck and stay focused! The end is in sight! Task One - You must go to the Duelling Chamber and participate, as a duellist, in at least two duels during the year. If you do more than this, you can pick which duels I will look at; just send me the starting dates, via PM, and the opponents name. - It doesn't matter if you win or lose. What I will be looking for is a good variety of spells, cast tactfully for maximum effect. Task Two - Knowledge about what you are facing is very important and often key to understanding how to combat it. With the help of the textbook A Darker Face of Wizardry, answer the following questions: In which year were the Unforgivable curses first classified thus? How was it probably discovered that basilisk venom could destroy horcruxes? And what other magical element can do the same? How else can horcruxes be undone? What key features allow the identification of an inferi? Give some examples of crimes that have earned both short and life-time sentences in Azkaban Task Three - Write a couple of paragraphs on Occlumency. Explain what it is and discuss what mental state is most effective to a person's success with it. Weigh up how important it is to learn this taking into account the dangers posed by Legilimency but also the prevalence, or lack thereof, and skill involved. Are there other ways you can try and combat Legilimency? Task Four - Outline and explain all the different measures you can take to defend yourself against the dark arts under the following headings: Items, Observation, Research, Spells. Remember that Dark Arts can refer to people, spells, creatures and potions and each should get a mention! |
